00:00Jubayr ibn Mut'im

00:17he says that I was one of the greatest enemies of the Prophet

00:22and he said I hated him more than any other human being on the face of this earth.

00:27But he said one time I walked into the masjid and I heard the Prophet reciting the ayah from Surah At-Tur

00:33أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُونَ أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ بَلْ لَا يُوقِنُونَ

00:38Were they created from absolutely nothing?

00:40Or are they themselves suggesting that they are the creators?

00:43أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ

00:45Or did they create the heavens and the earth?

00:47Rather they have absolutely no idea, they are in utter confusion.

00:50So Jubayr says that at that moment when the Prophet said that,

00:54even though Jubayr wouldn't officially accept Islam until later on in his life,

00:58he says, وَقَرَ الْإِيمَانُ فِي قَلْبِهِ

01:00Faith entered my heart.

01:01I knew at that point that there is absolutely no way that there isn't a God,

01:05that there isn't Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

01:07And you know if you really just sit with yourself and you go through the process of elimination,

01:11of the scientific possibilities of how we're here and how everything else around us is here,

01:16then we find that there is no other way to explain it except by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

01:22And Allah tells us this in the Qur'an.

01:24Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, He says in Surah Al-Ahqaf,

01:26He says, قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ

01:29He says, say to those people that worship others besides Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,

01:33أَرُونِي مَاذَا خَلَقُوا مِنَ الْأَرْضِ

01:35Show me what they created from this earth.

01:37أَمْ لَهُمْ شِرْكٌ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ

01:39Or do they have any partners in the heavens, in the creations of the heavens?

01:44إِيتُونِي بِكِتَابٍ مِنْ قَبْلِ هَذَا أَوْ أَثَارُتٍ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِن كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

01:49Bring forth any form of narration, any form of book, anything that would suggest that what they're saying makes any sense,

01:56whether it's textual logic, or whether it's sexual, or whether it's just intellectual.

02:01Bring forth any form of evidence that would suggest that those that you worship besides Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

02:06have anything to do with the creations of the heavens and the earth.

02:09Now realize that the Qur'an and the Sunnah, they're addressing a people that worship partners besides Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,

02:15because atheism really didn't exist in the time of the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam,

02:19or at least he didn't encounter that, because that's even far more absurd.

02:23To suggest that there's absolutely no creator is far more absurd than saying that,

02:27well there are multiple creators and this is taking place and that's taking place,

02:31because at least those people that believe in something have some form of explanation for how we got here.

02:38So Allah says, tell me what they created from this earth.

02:42And Allah started off with, أَرُونِي مَاذَا خَلُقُ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ

02:46Tell me what they created from this earth, instead of السَّمَوَاتِ, instead of the heavens,

02:50because الْأَرْضِ مَشْهُودَ

02:52As the scholars say, the earth is that which is witnessed.

02:55You can see this stuff around you.

02:57You know, let's not even talk about the heavens yet.

02:59Let's talk about your house, let's talk about the earth, let's talk about the mountains,

03:03let's talk about the raw materials, the seeds.

03:05And even if you would say that, well, we made our houses and we put together cars and we manufacture these things,

03:12how could you do that without the permission of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,

03:15without the things that are provided to you from the skies?

03:17So what if Allah withheld the rain?

03:19So Allah says, أَرُونِي مَاذَا خَلَقُ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ

03:23Tell me what they created from this earth.

03:25أَمْنَهُمْ شُرْكٌ فِي السَّمَوَاتِ, and if you can't explain that which is around you,

03:29then do you have a partner in regards to that which you can't see?

03:33You know, and the idea here is that there's no way that we could witness this,

03:36that we can see what's really above us and beyond us.

03:39So do you have anyone that's giving you revelation as to what's happening over there?

03:43Are you in communication with anyone that's explaining to you the creation of the heavens?

03:47So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala starts off, as the scholars say, with دَلِيل عَقْلِ

03:51This is logical proof that there's clearly, you know, you clearly have no explanation for the things around you,

03:58not that which you can see, and especially not that which you can't see.

04:02Then Allah moves on to دَلِيل نَقْلِ, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala moves on to the text.

04:07اِيْتُونِ بِكِتَابٍ مِنْ قَبْلِ هَذَا أَوْ أَثَارَةٍ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

04:12If you can't explain it logically, then do you have a textual proof for your own beliefs and things of that sort?

04:17So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, you don't have a logical explanation, nor do you have an intellectual explanation for this.

04:24And you know, there were a lot of videos that have been produced recently, I saw them with atheist logic,

04:29and what they'll do is they'll show people putting things together or things that would come together out of nowhere,

04:34and it would say atheist logic.

04:36And it reminds me of a debate that Imam Abu Hanifah had with a group of people called الدهريا.

04:42الدهريا, the literal translation of الدهريا are the timers.

04:47In essence, these were people that said, مَا يُهْلِكُنَا إِلَّا الدَّهْرَ

04:51That nothing does away with us except for time.

04:55There is no creator, there is no creator of time, there is nothing that takes place after we pass away,

05:00there is no afterlife, so on so forth.

05:02So this group challenged Imam Abu Hanifah because he was a thorn in their side,

05:06I mean he was really just doing away with their movement altogether.

05:10So they said, let's have a debate.

05:12So they show up to the debate and Imam Abu Hanifah doesn't show up,

05:17and he's taking his time and people are starting to say, you know, maybe he's scared,

05:21maybe he really knows that he can't debate with these people,

05:25he knows he's gonna lose the debate.

05:26So Imam Abu Hanifah he shows up like an hour late,

05:29and the debater on the side of الدهريا, the atheist, he says, you know,

05:34this is clearly a sign of you not knowing what you're going to say today,

05:38you clearly don't know how to argue with us on these points.

05:41So Imam Abu Hanifah he said, well let me explain to you what happened.

05:44He said, I had to come across the river bank,

05:46and in order to come across the river bank I needed a boat or I needed a raft.

05:50He said, so when I got there I realized I don't have one,

05:53so I sat there and I watched and I waited for nature to create me a raft.

05:58So I waited for a few pieces of wood, a few chunks of wood to show up,

06:02and then lo and behold the wind brought them together,

06:05and then nails came from the bottom of the surface of the ocean,

06:07and they started to nail them together.

06:09And he said, you know, by the end of it,

06:11and obviously I'm paraphrasing the story,

06:13he said, by the end of it, you know, I was able to sail

06:15and get across the river bank and debate you here,

06:17but that's why I'm late.

06:18So the guy on the other side starts to laugh.

06:20He says, you really expect us to believe that?

06:22He said, you people suggest that all of this came from nothing,

06:26that all of this is a matter of chance and not designed.

06:29And you're amazed by the creation of a boat being from nature, mother nature.

06:33So this is atheist logic, right?

06:35And that comes from Imam Abu Hanifa .

06:37It's one thing to say that, you know, there is no creator.

06:41It's another thing to say there is no designer after the creation.

06:44But things are so complex, it makes absolutely no sense.

06:47So Imam Abu Hanifa is addressing the simple fact,

06:50the simple logic that in order for you to be here,

06:53there must have been something before you.

06:55It's like belief in your ancestors.

06:57You've never seen them but you know that they were there

06:59because it's by the process of cause and effect.

07:02You wouldn't be here without them.

07:04Imam al-Shafi he came up with a far more deeper answer

07:08in regards to the design part of it, the design piece.

07:11You know, an atheist asked him, how do you know that there is a God?

07:14He said, because of the leaf of shajarat al-tut,

07:17which is the mulberry tree.

07:19He said, what do you mean?

07:20He said, well, the leaves of these trees have the same taste,

07:23the same color, the same smell, and the same form.

07:26But when the silkworm eats it, it gives silk.

07:29And when the bee eats it, it gives honey.

07:31And when the sheep eats it, it becomes milk.

07:33And when the gazelle eats it, it becomes musk.

07:35So he said, who could have made this so diverse

07:38in regards to his production,

07:40if it wasn't Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la,

07:42other than a creator.

07:43And then he recited,

07:44تَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالَقِينَ

07:46The verse in Surah Al-Mu'minoon,

07:48that blessed be Allah, the best of all creators.

07:51So it's beautiful when you think about it,

07:53that Imam al-Shafi'i was able to derive that

07:55from a simple leaf, that there is no way

07:58that this miracle could have come from anything but a designer.

08:02So it's cause and effect to know that there was a creator,

08:05you don't need physical evidence, you don't need to see it.

08:08And then after that, coming to the conclusion

08:10that this design is perfect, it's beautiful.

08:13So it only makes it clear,

08:15and without the creator there would be no creation,

08:18there would be no explanation for our existence,

08:20what then of the beautiful signs,

08:22the differences in colors,

08:23and the difference in the diversity of all of the things around us,

08:26what then do you make of that?

08:28.

08:30.
