00:00Instructions in dressing rooms, obey my commands at all times, protect yourself at all times.
00:04Everything from bedline and up is okay, everything from bedline and up is okay.
00:09Touch gloves, good luck to both of you.
00:12Once again, Jose Benavidez Sr. in the corner.
00:15This is his second fighter of the night.
00:17He has the main event, obviously, of course, as well, with his son David in action.
00:23And Porras coming off a first-round knockout in his last fight against Isaac Torres.
00:29You know he'd love to get another one here.
00:32And the height difference is staggering right here in this weight division.
00:37But you can see it.
00:38I can already tell that he's fighting responsibly tall.
00:40You know, he didn't come looking for that right hand on the shoulder fighter.
00:43He's actually the one backing up, you know, flicking that jab, wanting Impenda to throw something and fall off balance.
00:50It's got to be some kind of record, right, Sergio?
00:52Two fights already with Mexico versus Africa.
00:55Yeah.
00:56And much taller Mexicans.
01:02Good body shot.
01:03See, that's what I'm talking about with responsible tall fighting, bending your knees like that just to go to the body of the shorter fighter.
01:09You know, when you're that much taller than your opponent, you've got to fight responsibly tall.
01:16You know, you can't just stay in one height.
01:19You're going to be bound to get timed.
01:22Well, Sergio, you've talked about this before, that Mexican style is getting a little more cultured.
01:28But Zerto Ramirez is kind of leading the way.
01:29It's not just, I'm tougher than you are.
01:31I'm going to outwork you.
01:33It's a little more refined.
01:35New school Mexican style is what I call it.
01:37And we've been seeing that ever since Eric Morales.
01:40We know he was a warrior, but he can also box.
01:42And, of course, Canelo Alvarez and so many others.
01:45And Juan Manuel Marquez, actually.
01:47He was the one that I first realized this guy was a warrior.
01:50But he has technique.
01:51He can box.
01:52And I think more Mexicans are picking that up to extend their career and become champions in multi-divisions.
01:59On the back of Porras' trunks, it says Ezekiel 3.9.
02:02Interesting Bible verse to choose.
02:03It starts out with, I will make your forehead like the hardest stone, harder than flint.
02:09So I guess he's got a hard head.
02:12Hard head, yeah.
02:13Or he wants a hard head.
02:14He's praying for one.
02:16You know any more Bible verses?
02:19Jesus wept.
02:20Okay.
02:22Jesus.
02:22Tonight.
02:27Porras undefeated.
02:29Nine knockouts.
02:32A lot of fights.
02:33Good job.
02:35Boy.
02:36Pius and Pinda finally throwing something.
02:39But he's got to get much closer and throw much higher.
02:44Almost needs a jump to throw.
02:49But Joe Frazier made a career out of doing that.
02:51Yeah, but Joe Frazier had upper body movement.
02:54He made himself even smaller.
02:55He had quick explosive left hooks.
02:58You know, that's the reason, you know, you would think that he was ducking down too low or he couldn't jump up and hit you.
03:03Frazier made a career out of that.
03:04Yeah, you've got to make sure that you're not getting punched in the temple there, right?
03:07You know, guys like Joe Frazier, Dwight, Kwame Mohammed, a lot of short fighters, they know how to fight small.
03:16And it's a talent.
03:19You know, whenever you're that small, if you've got the skill, you've got the speed, you've got the strong back where you can actually bend, then you can make a career out of fighting taller fighters.
03:28Good uppercut there right at the bell.
03:34We've got a packed house tonight, an absolute sellout.
03:38And they'll be here until early in the morning.
03:40The main event scheduled to walk at 545 a.m.
03:44Mike, that's way past your bedtime.
03:46I don't know about mine.
03:47Definitely Sergio's, though.
03:49I've been sleeping a lot.
03:52Lots to do here outside the arena as well.
03:54They've got the fan zone, punched the bag, put on the VR goggles, eat, drink, and be merry.
04:01It's always a good time here in Riyadh.
04:03And this is a city not quite like Vegas, but the bright lights, and no one goes to bed until, what, 6, 7 in the morning.
04:11All the restaurants are open all night long.
04:13The restaurants are open in the coffee shops, the tea shops, the hookah lounges.
04:19It's okay now and again, but make sure you land in shots, you know?
04:28Second touch.
04:29Round two.
04:33Round two, scheduled for six.
04:35Our previous fights were four-rounders.
04:38So we're inching up, and, of course, the main card tonight, all four of the fights will be scheduled for 12 rounds.
04:46Which fight, Mike, are you most looking forward to?
04:49Tough to pick just one, Todd.
04:51I think the fight that could steal the show is Bam Rodriguez versus Fernando Martinez.
04:55That has action written all over it.
04:58Yeah, I think maybe the sleeper fight's the one right out of the gate.
05:00Noakes in action against Abdullah Mason.
05:02Both of those guys full of confidence, Sergio, and they both think they're going to get a knockout.
05:07You know what?
05:07It's not going to bring the same weight as, say, a Brian Norman in Haiti, but, yes, I agree with you.
05:17Whenever you have undefeated fighters like that, they're so hungry from different parts of the world.
05:21You know, they want to defend that.
05:23Oh, and they're fighting for a world championship, so I agree with you, man.
05:25I think Sam Noakes and Abdullah Mason is going to be something special.
05:29Yeah, Abdullah Mason, 21 years old.
05:33Always looking for a knockout, both fighters, too, so don't expect that.
05:36The crowd really pulling for Pius and Penda, who's giving him something to cheer about here in round two.
05:42Yeah, he does, because he finally made himself even smaller, broke that distance,
05:46and went straight to the body of the taller fighter.
05:49Yeah, these guys are really starting to trade in here now.
05:52Best Mexico versus Africa fight I can think of.
05:54Abner Mares versus Joseph Abeko.
05:57I think our friend Mares threw about 30 low blows in that fight.
05:59He pulled an Andrew Gulotta.
06:03Power pull.
06:06Uriel Perraas, 24 years old.
06:09Still plenty of time to grow.
06:12Grow into that big frame.
06:13As you mentioned, Zerto Ramirez started his career at 168.
06:18Now he's at 200 as a cruiserweight and has even talked about going up to heavyweight division.
06:29Looking forward to seeing Zerto back in the ring, coming off the surgery.
06:32Rumors are he might be in action in January.
06:36Nothing booked yet.
06:37Nice step back by Julio Perraas.
06:39That shows his athleticism.
06:42He stepped back, bent his knees, made himself smaller, and threw a right uppercut.
06:46That's how you do it responsibly.
06:48By checking your technique, being out of range of the smaller fighter, and a sharp one-shot.
06:56Some news for you, Todd, right here.
06:58I'm hearing that Zerto could be fighting Robin Safar next.
07:01Really?
07:03Obviously, he had that knockout of Sergey Koblen.
07:06You are the insider.
07:07Yeah, we saw Safar in action recently with the distance against the fighter.
07:11We thought he was going to knock out Sergio.
07:13Had some trouble.
07:14Yeah, I think he's going to evolve and learn from that fight because he has a lot to offer, man.
07:20I like Robin Safar.
07:21I like everything I see with him.
07:23Just kicking it to another gear.
07:25But I'm glad he's getting a big fight.
07:27We were just talking about our first flight of the main card, Sam Noakes versus this man, Abdullah Mason, in the building.
07:43And Mike, a chance in history for him tonight.
07:45He wins.
07:46He becomes the youngest title holder in the world.
07:48Yeah, it's an incredible feat.
07:50People have had their eyes on him for a long time in boxing.
07:53Talk to a lot of people in the industry, Todd.
07:55And they all say, this guy could be the pound-for-pound king one day.
07:58And we're seeing the next generation because Bam Rodriguez became the youngest champion in boxing.
08:03Devin Haney was a young, undisputed champion.
08:05And now we have Abdullah Mason to become the youngest now.
08:09It's a bright generation for boxing, and it's looking great.
08:12That is for the vacant WBO lightweight world title right out of the gate on our main card coming up later tonight.
08:26That is part of the Ring 4 Night of the Champions.
08:32Buy it now, DAZN.com slash boxing.
08:35And, of course, it's also part of our ultimate package.
08:38One low price, and you get over 12 pay-per-views a year, including 185 other fight cards here on DAZN.
08:48That's what I want to see more of from Impenda.
08:51You know, stabbing at the body of the long torso for us.
08:55You know, a lot of small fighters, you don't think about them throwing the jab.
08:58But Mike Tyson even said, the most important punch for me was my jab.
09:01Yeah, but you have to have quick feet.
09:03You know, the thing about Mike Tyson, he was explosive with his feet.
09:06He would square up, he would turn southpaw, and then he would double and triple jab his way in.
09:12That's something short fighters need to do, not just throw one jab.
09:16You've got to double, triple up the jab.
09:17You have to have fast feet to break that range and distance.
09:20Are you seeing anything special from Porras that makes you think maybe he could be somebody?
09:27Not yet.
09:28Quick hands, he's responsibly with his, he's responsible with his range.
09:33He fights responsibly.
09:35But nothing, no wow factor yet.
09:37But it's difficult fighting short fighters like Impenda, so, you know, it takes a while to adjust.
09:42And with fighters like Impenda, you've just got to be happy with the jab, you know, alternating speed and power of the jab.
09:56Using the entire ring, you know, throwing straight right hands.
09:59No combinations with shorter fighters, you know.
10:01You don't give them a chance to loop something or punch in between the shots.
10:04Keep it with twos and fews.
10:05Keep it with twos and fews.
10:17Anytime Impenda can get close and land a punch, the crowd will respond.
10:22They're cheering for the David in this David and Goliath matchup.
10:29That was a good stabbing jab by Porras.
10:31It's, it's rare you see such a tall fighter like that jab to the gut of a much smaller opponent.
10:47Ooh, good shot there by Impenda.
10:49Ooh, again.
10:51The crowd, I told you, they come to life.
10:54They want to see Impenda pull off the upset here.
10:56Impenda set that looping shot with two body shots downstairs.
11:00Got the elbows down and the guard down on Porras and he came over the top.
11:04Sly fighters Impenda.
11:07Yes, Sergio, you just called it moments ago, right?
11:09When you're the shorter fighter, you're taller, you have to be worried of that.
11:15Still to come, our featured preliminary fight.
11:17Vito Milnicki Jr. and Samuel Mowa.
11:20A lot of back and forth talk yesterday or the day before at the press conference between those two.
11:25Well, Nicky, nicknamed White Magic.
11:32Let's see if he can improve on that 21-1 record.
11:35There's a right hand from Impenda.
11:36This is a great run by Impenda.
11:38Impenda look good right here.
11:39And we say hello ringside.
11:49Todd Grisham, Sergio Mora, and Mike Coppinger here.
11:52No Chris Mannix this week.
11:54How do you feel about that?
11:55Well, we're here with the legend, Mike Coppinger, who has a good dresser, good commentator, and a good rider.
12:01So I'm glad Mike's here.
12:03Happy to be here, Sergio.
12:03We missed you, Chris.
12:05Chris on not daddy duty yet, but eventually daddy duty as his wife, Sinisa Estrada, is due almost any day now.
12:13So salute and hello from Riyadh, and good luck to you guys out in California.
12:17Papa Mannix.
12:19Do we have to get him a baby gift, by the way?
12:21I'm not getting him nothing.
12:22Hold us 10 seconds.
12:37Second time.
12:39Round four.
12:40All right, we're in round four, scheduled for six.
12:42Let's see if one of these guys can land a consequential punch to really get this place heating up,
12:48because it is cold in here, I'll tell you that.
12:50Well, I like the way Impenda finished the last round.
12:54It seems like he's getting closer and closer to getting what he wants to do,
12:57and that's breaking that distance, not fighting at the long range of Poraz,
13:01and, of course, looping the shots.
13:03But it starts with body shots that Impenda did on both sides.
13:06See right there, he tried to loop the shot, but he didn't set up with body shots.
13:10Just past midnight local time here in Riyadh.
13:13Good thing they have strong coffee out here, right?
13:21Yeah, how many cups of coffee have you guys drank today, by the way?
13:24I'm going to number six.
13:26Wow.
13:28You're addicted.
13:30No, I just love the coffee, and I slept a lot.
13:32Mike, one of our first trips over here, Sergio, went to a beverage stand, took a sip of it,
13:39said, this is some of the best coffee I've ever had, and the guy who gave it to him said, it's tea.
13:45Classic.
13:48There's the shot.
13:49Oh, there's a right hand from Impenda.
13:50Man, getting really close to landing that solid.
13:54I would love to see if he lands it clean on the tempo.
13:57I want to see how the legs of Poraz are going to respond.
14:00But Impenda's getting closer and closer.
14:02See that?
14:02Yep.
14:03And you see Poraz has those hands down.
14:08Poraz needs to jab, man.
14:10He's in there with a stubborn, short, explosive fighter, and Impenda,
14:13so just be happy keeping him on the outside of that long range.
14:17Double and triple that jab.
14:22Try to set him up with that big right hand.
14:24And it was actually just the anniversary earlier this week of that incredible knockout,
14:29Sergio Martinez, when he loops that shot against Paul Williams, the taller man.
14:32Knockout of the year, face down on the canvas.
14:37Impenda, five knockouts in his 11 wins, so not a ton of power, but he has got some KOs under his belt.
14:45Oh, good shot.
14:47He just ate one there.
14:49Impenda has the right idea.
14:51You know, he's punching between the shots of the longer arm Poraz.
14:56He's trying to time that overhand right.
14:57He keeps inching that front foot closer and closer, you know, not being at mid or long range.
15:03Clever fighter, Impenda.
15:05Yeah, doesn't seem like a lot to be excited about for Poraz.
15:14Really hasn't put his stamp on this fight.
15:17Yeah, he neglected the jab.
15:18You know, he's pawing the jab out there, but I would be busting up the shorter fighter with the jab, man.
15:23Just, you know, punching from the taller stance, making yourself a little smaller.
15:27But everything behind that jab, you know, make him run into the hard shots.
15:30He's alternated with speed, with flicking jabs, and then surprised him with a shotgun jab.
15:37But if you're hooking with a smaller fighter, I mean, it's only going to be a matter of time before the smaller fighter beats you to the hook.
15:43Coming up next, Mohammed Alakel from Saudi Arabia, unbeaten, 6-0 in action.
15:54He'll be taking on Xiaming Li from China.
15:59Sergio, he seems to be getting better and better every time we see him.
16:02Oh, I do.
16:02Yeah, I really like Alakel.
16:04And it started with, you know, the punch placement.
16:07You know, when he first started, the footwork was fine, but he was quick to punch.
16:11He wasn't turning him.
16:12He wasn't turning the knuckle, keeping his elbow in.
16:15He was focusing on speed.
16:17Now he's focusing more on technique, and behind technique is going to come the power.
16:23And credit to Abel Sanchez for slowing him down, you know, turning the punches, and minding your technique before the power comes.
16:30Mike, you spend a lot of time in this country.
16:32Can you imagine if someone like Mohammed Alakel was a one-day challenge for a world title?
16:36He wouldn't be fighting in an arena.
16:38He'd be fighting in the stadium.
16:39Yeah, I mean, look at all the fights they're having here now.
16:41All right, and his excellency, Turkey Al-Sheikh, it's a dream of his and a passion project to crown the champion.
16:47So Saltona Muhammad ends Muhammad Alakel training with Abel Sanchez.
16:52That fight is next.
16:53Some work to do here.
16:55We're in round five scheduled for six.
16:57Do you think Impenda's won a round yet, guys?
17:01Maybe one, yeah.
17:02But he's in several rounds, and especially the later rounds.
17:07Well, if he's got one round, if he wins the last two, could have a draw.
17:12There's that right hand.
17:13There's that right hand.
17:13And that's because Porras let him in, he let him in too close.
17:18And that's, that's, that's credit to Impenda.
17:22And that time he led him with a jab, which created the opening.
17:25And this is where he wants to be caught up again with a right.
17:27And Porras does not look too good right now.
17:30Lupin both shots now because now he already figured it out.
17:34He got the formula.
17:34He broke that long distance.
17:36He's inside the reach.
17:37So now he's looping both hands and landing cleanly.
17:41You can see Porras didn't like those shots.
17:43Now on the back foot boxing.
17:45And he's doing a nice job, I think, of dipping his head when he throws the overhand shot.
17:50That's what you have to do.
17:52You know, you got to tuck that chin in and swing for the fences, but do it responsibly.
17:56You threw a lot of those against, I think I was afraid of Angulo.
18:00No, I threw a lot of those, period, because I would, I would make myself small.
18:04There you go.
18:04That's a shot right there.
18:06I learned that shot when I was watching, you know, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns.
18:10You know, Tommy Hearns was winning every round.
18:11It was like the later in the fight, you're blowing it, son.
18:14It was that overhand right to the taller Hearns.
18:16And that changed everything for Sugar Ray.
18:19And now you see some blood trickling from the nose of Julio.
18:26Shot is quite his way back.
18:27This is not where he wants to be.
18:29In close, and he hit another right hand.
18:31This is the best round of the fight by far for Pius and Penda.
18:34Oh, and he's rocking Porras.
18:36Not only has he rocked him, but he shook him.
18:39Now Porras is thinking twice about throwing his own punches.
18:41Maybe this will wake the Mexican up a little bit.
18:47Kind of treating this like a sparring session.
18:49Good uppercut there.
18:50Yeah, I wouldn't throw that uppercut.
18:51Now that Impenda's already throwing, landing those overhand shots, that's the last punch you want to throw, is that lead uppercut.
18:57You leave your chin exposed, and it's not a good, it's not a good look for technique for the taller fighter that's getting rocked.
19:03Porras with a combination there.
19:10I haven't seen a ton of those from him.
19:19Yeah, every time Impenda comes in with a jab, he gets some successful shots to land after it.
19:25Yeah, that's the punch he should be landing right now.
19:27You know, you've got to hide that overhand right.
19:29You know, Porras has already felt it.
19:32He's expecting it.
19:34Now you've got to hide it.
19:37You've got to be more, manipulate your opponent into that overhand shot than do that with jabs and foot fangs.
19:43Big round for the Tanzanians.
19:45Let's go.
19:53Good one.
19:55This one good.
19:57Last one more puts.
19:59Last one, this one, you're good.
20:01This one, okay.
20:02But, but stop it.
20:04Stop it, brother.
20:05You need to stop it.
20:07Stop it.
20:08Okay, stop it, please.
20:10Stand, you want water?
20:14There's an uppercut coming around the guard, alternating the attack by the shorter fighter, Impenda.
20:20But there's the shot right there.
20:21All three punches in the book.
20:23Uppercut, right hook, and then looping shot over the top.
20:27Clean shot.
20:28You can see that Porras is feeling those punches.
20:31He got the respect.
20:33Impenda needs to continue doing this and attacking the taller fighter.
20:38Obviously, Impenda won that round.
20:40You hear his corner telling him, stop him.
20:42And that shot was right on the temple, Sergio.
20:45It doesn't matter how good your chin is, you get hit on the temple, you could go down very easily.
20:50Absolutely, especially for tall fighters.
20:52You know, they're not accustomed to getting hit with looping shots by shorter fighters.
20:55Their legs betray him sometimes.
20:57That's what happens against Anthony Joshua, right, when he fought Andy Ruiz, another shorter fighter.
21:01That's what happens with taller fighters, period, because, you know, they don't look, they don't take the looping shots as comfortable as shorter fighters.
21:09They can't hide it.
21:10All you need is to see West line, you heard the crowd, ooh, he felt that one.
21:16Just like Joseph Parker and Bacoli right here in Riyadh.
21:19There you go.
21:20So what's your strategy if you're Porras right now, Sergio, after coming off that tough round five?
21:28I would go back to the basics, and that's the jab.
21:31I mean, you got all that height.
21:33You got all that reach.
21:34You just got to flick that jab out there.
21:36You make the shorter fighter who's already getting aggressive.
21:39Let him run into your jab.
21:41Bust him up with that jab.
21:45But see, that's all he's been doing, Porras.
21:47He's just been flicking that jab, touching that jab, poking that jab, but he's not really committing to that jab.
21:58No doubt about it, Impenda has to win this round.
22:03And it still might not be enough.
22:05Impenda now, the one pressing forward.
22:19Just missed a big right uppercutters, Impenda.
22:22He's swinging for the fences, and he has to.
22:24That's what his corner told him to do.
22:26As he should.
22:27Momentum has changed.
22:29Now it's Impenda going forward, being the aggressor, looking for the big shots.
22:36Julio Porras certainly lucky.
22:38This is only a six-round fight.
22:42Nice shot again.
22:43And Porras is leaving himself wide open as he follows through these power punches.
22:48Yeah, momentum has definitely changed.
22:50This is Impenda's round, and the momentum has switched.
22:54You can see that Porras is respecting and backing up, filling the hands of Impenda.
23:00Good thing this isn't an eight-round, or Porras would be in some real trouble losing on the cards.
23:04Yep, that's what Kopp just mentioned.
23:06I agree.
23:12Nice left there for Porras.
23:13I'm having trouble rolling my R's the more I say, Porras.
23:19Sorry, Sergio.
23:21You're doing all right.
23:27A rare body shot from Impenda.
23:30Surprised he hasn't been going downstairs more often?
23:33Yeah, a little bit surprised.
23:35I mean, that should be the MO of very stout fighters, short fighters that are accustomed to being a lot shorter and smaller
23:43than their opponents.
23:45The body's the way to go.
23:53And that will do it as Porras bounces off the ropes.
23:58So you've got to believe Impenda most likely won those last two rounds,
24:01but did he sneak one of the first four and earn a draw?
24:06We'll find out here momentarily.
24:07I want to remind you of what's coming up straight ahead on our main event of the evening.
24:15Brian Norman Jr. and Devin Haney.
24:18This is Haney's first fight at 147, and he goes right after a champion, Sergio.
24:23Do you agree with that strategy?
24:26I agree with the guts of Devin Haney, and you can just look at his resume, and this guy hasn't, you know,
24:31he hasn't avoided anyone.
24:33It's champion after champion.
24:34You've got to give the kid credit, man.
24:37He turned the dream into reality.
24:40Not a lot of happy faces in the corner of Porras right now, and for good reason.
24:46And you asked me early in the fight if I'm impressed with what I'm seeing,
24:50and I couldn't really pick out anything, Todd, because there's a lot of work to be done
24:55with Julio Porras right now.
24:57And one of the things is upper body movement.
24:59You know, the thing about Mexican fighters, they have great upper body movement.
25:04They work on their lower back.
25:05They know how to go under punches.
25:07Porras was a little bit too stiff.
25:09Didn't use a jab enough.
25:11Fought to the smaller man's stature and got hit with those looping shots.
25:15It wasn't the type of performance where you can go away and say, all right,
25:20there's something to work with there.
25:21There's a lot that Julio Porras needs to work on.
25:24Let's hear what the judges had to say, and for that, we're back in the ring with Thomas Tribe.
25:27Ladies and gentlemen, after six rounds of boxing, we go to the judges' scorecards
25:37and all three judges, Mike Ross, Mike Fitzgerald, and Pavel Hennig are in agreement.
25:45They all score at the same 57 to 57.
25:50This bout is a unanimous draw.
25:53Oh, there you go.
25:56He did win one of those early rounds, Sergio.
25:58Yes, he did, and I'm glad the judges gave him credit for it.
26:01This wasn't a good performance by the undefeated Julio Porras and Impenda.
26:07I mean, what can you ask for?
26:09You know, he was a B-side.
26:10He was brought here to lose, and a draw is a victory for a Tanzanian fighter.
26:15Well, it's been quite a year here on DAZN.
