04:16Erickson Lubin hasn't fought in the home in a long time since 2016.
04:20First time fighting Kissimmee.
04:25Also the homecoming has a lot of the crowd support tonight, but very measured in round number one.
04:35Holmes wants to change that reputation tonight from being just a sort of a stinker, spoiler guy
04:40to, you know, a bonafide contender in an IBF eliminator.
04:44He's got a chance to get the biggest win of his career.
04:47But is Lubin going to let him sort of spoil things?
04:49Is Lubin going to let him sort of stink out the joint here?
04:52Of his homes, like I said, he's, like you said, champ, he's, he's a guy who will do just a bare minimum.
04:56I have no problem winning just by the bare minimum margin.

05:32You know, you like to see him mix it up like that and stay a little bit busier with it as well.

06:04A lot of southpaws are one-handed fighters in terms of power punches.

06:13But notice what Holmes is doing, that he had both his gloves.
06:18Look, he's locking up the lead arm so that right hook can't come.
06:21So he is bladed, but he's also controlling that lead hand.
06:25That's that craftiness that I was speaking about.

07:44I'd like to see Lubin creep his way into the position where he can throw combinations.
07:49When Lubin lets his hands go, he comes with power.
07:51He comes with speed.
07:53The technique is there.
07:55Holmes more of a control, slow, the pace type of guy.
07:58If you can get him into firefights, Lubin is going to have the advantage.
08:01But he's got to get his feet into the position to be able to do that.

08:07For his part, Audra Holmes Jr. not doing much beyond the jab.
08:22The question, of course, is that going to be enough to win rounds?

08:29he's going to at some point have to give ericsson lumen a reason to back up

08:46and it's not a nothing jab he's sticking that thing he's doing it high he's doing it low
08:53he's letting some really nice stab jabs down low right to the pit of the stomach
08:56you know what it does it establishes range too lumen's gonna have to try to start countering
08:59that jab slipping and it's not a lot of them and most of them are getting blocked but he's
09:03gonna have to start shooting right back at least with his own jab even what it allows
09:10Holmes to do when he does this is sort of control the range control the distance and
09:14stay comfortable out of at the pace that he wants to stay comfortable at comfort I
09:18think is a big big theme here and Holmes just felt comfortable enough to dig a
09:24lead right hook off a jab you got a tall guy who's feeling comfortable enough to
09:29do that you gotta know he's feeling pretty good about himself right now
09:33but are they who's gonna step up who's gonna step up and try to you know you
09:36know what's on the line here the shot at the world championship right who's gonna
09:39step up actually try to take control of the fight right now it's a it's been a
09:42little bit of a staring contest it's a little bit a little bit of a of a fight
09:45where both guys doing the bare minimum we can actually take control of this fight
09:49to get the bull by the horn so to speak we're still not there yet somebody's got to make that
09:54decision now for his part our drill Holmes jr three-time Michigan Golden Gloves

10:12nice body shot there Lubin caught a nice angle outside that foot came in with a
10:19double jab and mean left hook to the body around the elbow but then Holmes is able to
10:27shoulder the puncher back Holmes used that shoulder a lot but he's not using it to
10:31create space to work he's just using it to sort of take away the space that you can work
10:36and he's also using to take some of the power off the puncher pushing him back so he has to be on the back
10:41left to punch it's a little bit of a your turn my turn fight which I didn't expect really you know
10:44even both guys for taking time punching nobody's trying to punch in between I
10:48didn't expect Lubin to show this much respect for Holmes I thought he was in a
10:54kind of come forward more be a little more aggressive start faster
11:04I changed up there so there Holmes thought that was gonna be a body shot again
11:08because he landed a couple of good ones that he turned it upstairs looped it
11:11around nice little left hand to the head
11:41and we are back round number four about to begin
12:09you said it Chris a lot of respect shown so far for Erickson Lubin looking to
12:16Ardrio Holmes thought maybe he'd be a little bit more aggressive he's been
12:20patient so far twelve round twelve round fight though so there is there is more
12:27time championship level just as we mentioned it Erickson Lubin on a double
12:35jab getting inside turn it up just a little bit more but Ardrio Holmes he's a
12:42disruptor he's starting to get those combinations going he'll step in he'll
12:47smother you he'll tie you up and spin you
12:50look good overhead left heavy shot good power shot turning up the heat on Ardrio Holmes
13:03that's the thing I mean Holmes is allowing hammer to work he's just not letting those hands go it's not throwing a combination he's got a big target in front of them
13:16yeah I can see Lubin just let those hands go Holmes main style is jabbing and then
13:23shoulder barging you know they sort of take a break it's it's all sort of slowing
13:28the pace down to be comfortable but it's not trying to win the fight you know
13:31looking against a lesser fighter is that that may work but again you're a world
13:36class level here you if you're gonna win fights at this level you got to be
13:39willing to take a little bit of chances and do a little bit more as opposed to just
13:43being comfortable here we want to be uncomfortable if that's what it takes to
13:46win the fight and that's what I meant by saying that he's a disruptor it's not so
13:49much he's not a destructor yeah he's a disruptor yeah he disrupts his opponent
13:54total punches landed through three rounds 21 to 11 not great numbers landed but
14:01Erickson Lubin and Lubin realizing now that Holmes does your turn my turn so Lubin
14:07realizing if I just repeat some jabs at him he'll completely lock up and then I can put a
14:10combination behind it this home does not throw when you throw
14:13he goes completely defensive he doesn't want to be even be uncomfortable to take
14:17a risk to counter you or punch in between you because that might
14:19necessitate that he risks to get hit so if you're gonna be that safe you're not
14:23going to world-class level it's impossible to reach world-class level with that
14:26mentality and we always speak on our air about your turn my turn and how that
14:33just does not work that's not how you become a world champion but now we're seeing
14:38a lot more aggression from Lubin this is what I was expecting from him earlier on
14:42took him three rounds maybe to get the rust off from being inactive but now he's
14:45starting to just touch let those hands go just like that so you can look at what
14:51times his reaction the reaction is not the punch back no does not punch with you
14:55for those of us old enough to remember more versus Holyfield to the at the same it's
15:01not enough for him to just leave you alone you got to go after him
15:03that's a good body shot there from Lubin because eventually a world-class fighter will realize
15:09he's you're not doing anything let me step up a little bit more okay this is all you got it's
15:13just an illusion what Holmes shows is just an illusion is that's all he's got so Rubin's
15:19realizing like you know what let me step more and then test this out and you know what
15:22Holmes is not reacting in any way finally trying to punch back a little bit but
15:26move it is brimming with confidence at the end of that round walk back to his corner nodding his
15:32head Paulie you called it that double and triple jab let him get inside that was it yeah don't like
15:38that because you realize you have to be hard but if you're just punching at home he's not going to
15:41punch back so if you get him to lock up then you can open up to to other of the rest of the
15:46combination you want to throw as well it makes life easier for you you give the guy that my turn
15:50my turn yeah it's every year so my turn and well then you make it always your turn
15:55now the question is how is our drill Holmes jr. going to react this that's another separator
16:09not just volume and intensity but adjustments mid-fight yeah I mean that's what that's what
16:14being a world champion is all about being able to make those adjustments on the fly because the
16:17highest level fighters in the world will change things up if it's not working or if they're not
16:22getting there in their intention this is an IBF eliminator winner of this fight gets a title shot
16:32at the IBF champion Murtaz Aliyev so it's not like it gets any easier for the winner no not at all
16:43not at all we're gonna see who's gonna take the bull by the horns tonight show that they are
16:47world-class and are ready for that kind of opportunity look at the jabs landed Erickson
16:53Lubin still having an advantage Holmes has had two rounds in the four rounds where he landed a single
17:00punch our single jab excuse me as a tall guy six foot three seventy-five inch reach you would hope
17:06that he'd be landing more than a single jab what it's done is it's a lot of still control the pace you
17:11always have to land your jab in order to control the pace sometimes you show it and it'll establish range
17:17right here in this round Holmes has used it a little bit more and it's established some range between him and Lubin
17:23because Lubin unfortunately he's also doing the year turn my turn tonight he's not he's not I think one or two counter
17:29punches on Holmes and Holmes would literally just not throw punches anymore because
17:32Holmes barely throws to begin with if you actually counter him you get him you get him a hesitant to even lead
17:37very few counters from Lubin so far
17:40that's what I'm saying both if I both guys have a year turn my turn approach Lubin may be winning the fight because he may be
17:45taking the turn his turn more often but both guys are taking turns regardless
17:49Lubin's doing a good job of cutting off and sidestepping sidestepping but he's staying in that midrange he's not
17:54crossing that critical distance line to engage
17:56Holmes in this round much more comfortable with his power punches
17:59yeah and Lubin waiting a lot
18:01Holmes got him on the end of that jab
18:04I don't worry about Shaq left hook from the southpaw stance
18:11this is what I need to be doing if he's going to be your turn my turn he can lead
18:16continuously he'll establish that that distance
18:19big overhand left attempt there Holmes got under it but you don't normally see a six-foot-three guy over under shots
18:35that's because he's dug like that every time so I think he's getting used to him not getting low
18:39seeing Lubin makes that adjustment to rip those uppercuts
18:43very dangerous for a tall guy to give up his height
18:47to put his head over his front foot
18:49way less activity from Erickson Lubin in this fifth round
18:54he's really let our drill homes back into the fight
18:59yeah I mean he had a great round last time by just letting his hands go
19:03this round he went back to what was not really working before
19:06but I'll tell you what it also started around the time to establish the jab more
19:09he was he was leading first with his lead hand
19:11a lot more early in this round
19:15good body work here from Holmes and a good shot upstairs
19:20fight is breaking out the end of round number five
19:23a little bit of John Ruiz to Holmes relance and holds
19:27to this second level of John Ruiz to him

20:14Good finish by Erickson Lubin, but

20:26Well, it's been back and forth
20:28One thing our drill homes doesn't look like he's been overwhelmed by the moment necessarily gentlemen
20:35No, not at all, but also Lubin has allowed him to get comfortable in those first couple rounds by starting at a slow pace
20:40Yeah, I've mentioned Jimmy at the outset like for Lubin to show off his power early on and let Holmes know that
20:52He's stepping up to the big leads, but you know, he didn't do that and allowed Holmes into this fight right away
20:57Well, the total punch is landed Lubin so far a comfortable lead over all trail Holmes you talked about that inactivity
21:13Holmes had an advantage in the last round, however
21:16To a nice jab there from Lubin pops the head of Holmes as he slides across the ropes
21:23All week Erickson Lubin has been talking to us about showing these on a different level than our drill home the junior called him a pretender at this level
21:37But as you said Chris he hasn't done enough to kind of take Holmes of mentally out of the fight
21:51Holmes is comfortable enough to be sitting on the ropes for long stretches of time. He's throwing some body shots
21:57He's looking to counter now with that left hand there like that
22:00Okay, finally get out of the ozern points are a little bit on throwback
22:03Well, we've been trying to establish some pressure this round
22:20Or smothering here on the inside
22:22You know
22:32Who but does have that nice snappy southpaw jab?
22:37That's a really committed to his power punches. However little shots like that, but
22:42It's a total lot in combination
22:49There's a combination to mention me up. I got a couple rounds
22:51You go check that Holmes ducks a lot. I see if Lubin starts using it saw it there. Let's see if uh continues to see it there
23:04Holmes was never put anything to stain together though because anytime he does put something together
23:08His next move is to hold instead of to follow it up. See there it is right there. Yeah, he looks to looks to smother
23:14He looks to steal moments. He doesn't look to take control of the fight though
23:18As you said Paul is not putting his stamp on the fight in any way. Yeah
23:33Take a look at some of the action from the previous round
23:37Yeah, you so Holmes gonna throw up to that left hand loopy came right back with his right hook over the top
23:43It was that uppercut that you were speaking about champ making that adjustment because Holmes is getting hit in front of those getting over those fronts that front foot
23:52Halfway through this 12 round fight
23:54And Paulie would you expect from our real homes in his corner a little bit more urgency a little more sense of hey, you know
24:03You can't let this fight slip away round by round
24:06Okay, I would but I guess they see that Lubin also isn't really walking up
24:10So they still they think maybe they can steal the these rounds the way they've been stealing the Browns a lot of the ways
24:15They've done it in their career thus far. But again, I just feel like when you're at world-class level
24:19This is you got to know how to take the bull by the horns that you're not going anywhere if you can fight like this
24:24And also Paulie there are times when you've been the names and they're times when you haven't been the name
24:28And you've got to know which side you're on it Erickson Lubin certainly the name daddy
24:32That our drill Holmes has minimal out-homers and wins around
24:36You know our drill Holmes is used to fighting at home. He is not home now. He's been fighting in Flint, Michigan
24:42You've been fighting in the area over there now. We're in the backyard of Erickson Lubin
24:49Oh
24:54Big overhand left from Holmes over the top and back comes Lubin with a straight left that
24:59Once again back home to the ropes. I think we should start shooting those left hands to the chest and to the stomach because you know
25:04Holmes already sort of looks to be slipping the head shots and
25:09Look at the counter so he's got his head his mind fully on being defensive once he's backed up the ropes
25:14So I think if Lubin start shooting those left hands to the chest and at least we'll push the momentum back
25:18Of Holmes and you can follow it up with a combination after that. Yeah, it's very rare to see a tall guy who dips down dips forward
25:25Because he's looking to smother so you can't smother up high. You might get hit with something
25:30We haven't seen Lubin shoot that shot to the body that much, you know
25:32Like so I think if he starts shooting it to the body it may discourage Holmes from sort of wanting to dip
25:38Because he may dip into it. Yeah, like that punch across the chest shot. You go right through the collarbone
25:43Yeah, and you can come back with your own right hook because you know, we said Lubin has a pretty good right hook for a southpaw
25:49Lubin with the power
25:50Disparity on he's he's the more powerful puncher for sure. He hasn't only made that a huge factor in the fight
25:55We haven't seen that very much so far
25:59When he has put punches together he's effective and it shuts it shuts Holmes down, but it's too far and few between for me
26:05So you get it tries a counter left
26:11Mission touches a little bit better. It looks his mother instead of following up those holes. Oh
26:17Good luck. Yeah, you want to step out. That's fine, but you step out 40 feet away. That's not gonna do anything, you know
26:26Take it yourself. You gotta be willing to control the fight at this level. You gotta know how to take control of the fight
26:32You gotta take those chances
26:34Smart changes but calculating chances, but you got to take those chances right now
26:38It's just sort of that sleepwalking through it. Yeah pot shot and then take himself out of play Paulie
26:51I mean Holmes I mean Lubin hasn't done a lot to physically take control of the fight either
26:55But he knows that at least mentally make it look like he's controlling the fight by by stepping up constantly stepping up constantly
27:00And that's his experience working because he's out he could probably be doing a lot more physically as well
27:04And he's not oh absolutely but listen if we go by what we've seen all so far tonight the fighter going forward is the one who's gonna get the round so yeah
27:11Okay, moving moving understanding that and he's a guy going forward

27:44And ready as you can see for round number eight scheduled for twelve and

28:23It's halfway around the ring before the punch even Lance you know both you guys coached very very well
28:28Your pro careers coaches always tell you know when you're in play and out of play and don't take yourself out of play

28:33Yeah, the position game is so important
28:43See you get home this doesn't land that left hand and then look to see what else he could do
28:47He looks to land that left hand either get out completely or looks to smother
28:52Body shots there both hands down low, but he's already on his way out as he's throwing them
28:56So then it's not that you're not getting anything on them power punch lead for Erickson Lubin
29:01Holmes actually landed more power punch a grand total of four in the last round, but only two from Erickson Lubin
29:15Problems the movement has all alone in combination. He's done. Well beautiful shot fair lead hook

29:26And you can see he's not looking to get it back. All right. I'll just mother make my way through the sword uppercut left hand behind it
29:39That's one thing another another asset that Lubin has in this fight is that he's more explosive
29:45And you can use that explosive just when Holmes stops and stand still now thrown in combination is Erickson Lubin
29:57Our drill home just bowling forward and that's all not looking at all punches. He just look at his mother take away space on their steps in
30:04He hasn't thrown a single punch in this mother of times
30:06And this is this is what I was expecting from Lubin get a guy who's not punching back. He's got a punch through everything
30:15Nice spin off there. I was looking like a patador. He's already how much of a punch is he gonna throw?
30:21Holmes still has not thrown punches as they were here circled the whole ring trying to smother and not throwing a single punch since
30:26Finally through a jab here. I must have been at least 30 40 seconds. He throw a punch and he wasn't even hurt. He just wasn't fighting
30:36We've been finding home for a variety of punches here
30:42It's almost as if our drill home thought he could get through this fight without getting hit and that well
30:47It's it's kind of that's the problem his main
30:51His main focus on a fight is to take less damage as possible instead of to win the fight
30:55And then whatever damage you admit you don't take okay fine
30:58But you may not your main focus always be the mummy do what I gotta do to win the fight
31:02He's mentality you can see his body language throughout the whole fight and in his boxer style in general is to if let me take as
31:08Little damage as possible and if I can win that's good too that won't work to a certain level that work less lovely will not work
31:15You've got to prioritize winning the fight if you want to win at this level there's a great man once said it rains you get wet
