00:00Sports Network, the home of the Spurs.
00:02The D'Aaron Fox coming off of a 26-point game against the Grizzlies.
00:31He's 22 in the second half, and there he is, Mr. 100%.
00:36Seven of the final 11 points in that 11-0 run that the Spurs used to beat the Grizzlies on Tuesday night.
00:43The final game of this five-game homestand here inside the Frostbank Center tonight.
00:48It's the Spurs, and it's the Atlanta Hawks.
00:52Hello, everybody.
00:53Jacob Tobey alongside Sean Elliott.
00:55My goodness, Mr. 100% delivered.
00:58We weren't on the call.
00:59We couldn't hear it from you.
01:01But guess what?
01:01We're going to hear a lot of it tonight.
01:03Well, I certainly enjoyed the way he played down the stretch.
01:06He was absolutely fabulous.
01:07I love the Harrison Abdul-Jabbar skyhook over the top of Jaron Jackson Jr.
01:13That was a work of art.
01:15But he just kept our guys in there.
01:17And when he had to take over there, here's that skyhook right there.
01:21We were talking about Magic Johnson against the Celtics in the finals,
01:24and I certainly appreciated that one as well.
01:26A little fadeaway, NJ style.
01:28And then how about this, a little hezy going right down the middle of the paint,
01:31throwing it down with authority.
01:33And then, of course, you know what's happening from beyond the arc.
01:37Mr. 100% was in effect.
01:39He is having a career year, had a career year from downtown last year.
01:43He's following it up this year in all the shooting categories.
01:46Now on the Atlanta side, the good news is, for Spurs fans, Trae Young is not playing.
01:50The bad news is the Hawks are 7-3 without their superstar.
01:54Take a look at the injury report.
01:56Christophe Porzingis, Zachary Richa Shea, they are available tonight, Sean, but no Trae Young.
02:00Well, it's crazy to say, but it's not so crazy to say that they're arguably better without Trae Young on the floor right now.
02:05They're doing a great job moving the basketball, sharing it.
02:07Everybody is getting a chance to touch it.
02:10And when you're playing that way, it's a lot of fun,
02:12and that translates into how you play on the defensive end of the floor as well.
02:15And Jalen Johnson has emerged as a star for the Atlanta Hawks.
02:19Yes, he has.
02:19Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
02:21He's been spectacular, Sean.
02:23Where have you seen him grow the most in his game?
02:26Just everything.
02:27His playmaking ability.
02:27He had a game last week against Utah, he had 14 assists and 18 rebounds and 31 points.
02:33I mean, this guy right now is doing it all.
02:35He's in all facets of the game.
02:37He's shooting the ball well, he's athletic, he can take it to the rim,
02:40and he's done a wonderful job finding his teammates.
02:43Fifth year out of Duke, he is one of the league's shining young stars in the NBA
02:47as the Spurs look to round out this five-game homestand, winning their third straight.
02:52Keldon Johnson's been that dude for the Spurs all year long,
02:56and that's going to continue tonight.
02:58It's the Spurs and the Hawks coming up next right here on Fandle Sports Network.
03:03As we get you ready for the Spurs and the Hawks here inside of the Frostbank Center,
03:10Sean, we're going to use some Spur vision here,
03:12going back to that closeout game against the Grizzlies,
03:14that 11-0 run, defense fueling that run.
03:17How about this?
03:18And this just made my heart so proud.
03:20Keldon Johnson coming from the weak side,
03:22and look it, he lays himself out.
03:25I'm going to accept 11 feet 1 inches on the floor.
03:28How about Keldon?
03:30He beats everybody to the floor.
03:31Keldon Johnson making winning plays, assisting De'Aaron Fox.
03:374.7 feet?
03:38That's a 55-inch vertical.
03:40I think the truck is getting a little carried away there.
03:43I'll take closer to 47 inches.
03:4655 inches?
03:47It was still very impressive.
03:49More impressive.
03:50Keldon hitting the floor for your Methodist Healthcare Assist.
03:52Keldon didn't even watch the dunk go down,
03:54but all good vibes to you by Frostbank,
03:58exactly what you unexpected.
04:01And by HEB, here everything's better.
04:05The Fiesta Court being put up,
04:08all our talented crew here inside of the Frostbank Center,
04:11we appreciate their hard work.
04:13It's a tough task.
04:14Pretty cool to see it all put together.
04:18Working hard to make the court look good.
04:21Absolutely.
04:22Let's take a look at the starting lineups.
04:25We get ready for the Spurs and the Hawks.
04:27Atlanta, again, no Trae Young.
04:29They're 7-3 without Young,
04:31but they do get Zachary Rishishay back
04:33and Christophe Porzingis.
04:34They didn't play in their last game.
04:37And the Spurs, for them,
04:39no Victor Lomanyama, no Steph Castle.
04:41So De'Aaron Fox out there with Barnes,
04:44Champagne, Vassell, and Cornette.
04:51Spurs trying to win their third straight game
04:53to close out this five-game homestand.
04:56And then on the road for four.
04:59And De'Aaron Fox finishing that game
05:01against the Grizzlies with a 360,
05:03rather, windmill dunk.
05:05Here he is on that special play.
05:08Once I saw Zach Eady stop,
05:09I was like, oh yeah, I'm going to windmill it.
05:11But if he didn't stop,
05:12I was probably just going to lay it up real quick.
05:14But yeah, I still got a little bounce for sure.
05:17Do you think Steph Castle would approve of that one?
05:19He did.
05:20He did, yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:21That was my first dunk of the year, too.
05:23So that's a way to kickstart it.
05:26What a way to end that game, Sean.
05:28Yeah, a little exclamation point.
05:30It was an outstanding display of athleticism.
05:33But again, I was just thrilled
05:35the way Keldon just sacrificed his body,
05:39laid it out on the line, getting on the floor.
05:41And that's the evolution of Keldon.
05:43He's done a phenomenal job all year long.
05:45We love to dunk,
05:46but I just got to go back to Keldon Johnson
05:48making a winning play down the stretch.
05:52Tip is up.
05:54The Hawks win it.
05:54It's presented by Pizza Hut,
05:55and we are underway.
06:00No Trey Young for Atlanta,
06:01who always plays so well
06:03against the Spurs, Sean.
06:05Yeah, he does.
06:05He seems like he likes this building.
06:07A number of 40-point games here.
06:10Morsingas back in the lineup.
06:12NBA champion from Boston
06:13coming over to Atlanta in the offseason.
06:16Everyone maybe seems to think Atlanta
06:18won the offseason with a couple moves.
06:20Well, he picked up Porzingis,
06:22who's a...
06:23He could be dominant on the defensive end of the floor,
06:25and once he gets it going from the outside,
06:27he could be a handful.
06:29Alley-oop to Cornette inside from Champagne.
06:31No-go.
06:32Here comes Dyson Daniels,
06:33kind of their de facto point guard,
06:35along with Nakeel Alexander Walker.
06:37Floor.
06:38And nicknamed the Great Barrier Thief.
06:40Yes.
06:41Yeah, because of his defensive prowess.
06:43Led the NBA in steals last year.
06:45Here he is.
06:47Air ball that time.
06:49And Spurs.
06:51Well, you better be a good defender
06:52when you start the game like that.
06:59Oh, Barnes moves it.
07:01Champagny up fake.
07:02See you later.
07:04They'll put the basket in.
07:06Johnson, the handoff.
07:11Richie Shea.
07:12Alexander Walker puts it in for three.
07:15He has had a great start to his campaign
07:17coming over from Minnesota in the offseason.
07:19They're using it a lot more in the absence of Trey Young,
07:22and he's certainly paying huge dividends.
07:27J. Penny.
07:28Handoff.
07:29Cornette.
07:30And back to him.
07:31Vassell driving, fading, and hitting again.
07:38Getting to his spot.
07:39Yeah, he did a great job getting to his spot,
07:41taking care of the ball there with Daniels guarding him.
07:44Not an easy proposition.
07:46And Johnson fouled.
07:48He banked it off the window.
07:50They wave it off, and the Atlanta bench
07:52is going to question that.
07:54Quinn Snyder in his 12th season
07:55as the head coach of the Hawks.
07:57And that's a difficult shot.
07:59You move it to your left, and you get banged.
08:01And when he let it go,
08:03looked at me like it was going to be well short.
08:06But again, he's been absolutely on fire of late.
08:09You mentioned it.
08:09Eastern Conference Player of the Week
08:10has had some huge performances
08:12over the last two or three weeks.
08:15Hawks 4-0 last week.
08:17Richie Shea clanking a three.
08:19And then a 4-0.
08:2024 points per game by Jalen Johnson.
08:2212 rebounds, 9 assists.
08:23Him and Jokic, the players of the week.
08:28Cornette inside against the mismatch for two.
08:32Yeah, yeah, Porzingis out on the perimeter.
08:34It's a nice little hesitation there from Lou Cornette.
08:36Great footwork, beautiful use of the glass.
08:38Cornette only had one field goal attempt
08:40against the Grizzlies.
08:41His job was on the defensive end against Edie.
08:43His first force of turnover.
08:45It's Fox.
08:4622 points in that second half.
08:48On Tuesday, Mr. 100%.
08:51There he is, Mr. 100%.
08:55Nice to say that out here in public
08:59instead of in my living room.
09:01With a glass of wine in your hand.
09:03Yeah, that's right.
09:06Porzingis again.
09:08Time no good.
09:08Cornette the rebound.
09:09Barnes, what a year he is having.
09:11Career shooting percentages in every single category
09:14in his 14th year.
09:15And his teammates recognize that.
09:17Champagne, that same corner.
09:24It's hard to top Harrison Barnes in that corner.
09:26I was pulling for Julian there.
09:29Alexander Walker.
09:31That's a Porzingis who can do that.
09:33He's one of the better seven-footers to ever do that.
09:36Yeah, no question about it.
09:37That's why when he first was drafted by New York,
09:40came out, Si started shooting all those jumpers
09:42they nicknamed the Unicorn.
09:45Barnes, no good on that three.
09:47Down to 98%.
09:48He has the button ready.
09:54Marisha Shea in and out.
09:57Again, he's 0 for 2.
09:59Box pushing.
10:02Champagne walking in.
10:03Throws it for Curry.
10:06He gets that because Harrison Barnes is old school
10:11and runs all the way to the basket
10:12and takes the first defender with him.
10:14Alexander Walker for 2 again.
10:19He's averaging 18 points per game.
10:21Career high in points per game.
10:24Shots made, shots attempted.
10:26Champagne blocked underneath.
10:28I like what he was trying to do there, though,
10:30just trying to sneak it on the other side of the rim
10:31to protect his shot.
10:33Jalen Johnson fits for three.
10:36Hawkshawn coming in 7-2 on the road,
10:39second-most road wins in the lead.
10:41Yeah, it was a little surprising.
10:43Fox, that's not surprising, drills it for three.
10:47And all five Spurs starters have scored.
10:49That was pure.
10:50Really confident-looking shot.
10:51Had his legs underneath him.
10:53And you love it when he hits a little bit of back iron.
10:55I don't mind that.
10:56It means your legs are nice and strong underneath you.
11:00Alexander Walker again.
11:02He is feeling it.
11:04And Mitch Johnson is going to call a timeout here.
11:07Reset as Atlanta takes a two-point lead.
11:10Yeah, right.
11:10I mean, it looked like the ball was red, white, and blue there
11:12per second.
11:13It was ABA basketball.
11:15Constant buckets up and down the floor.
11:17Atlanta up early.
11:24Let's take a look at this play here.
11:26Why Julian Champagne gets a wide-open shot.
11:28How about you freeze it right here?
11:30There he is in the open court.
11:32Mr. 100%.
11:33And what he's going to do is he's going to run all the way down
11:36to underneath the basket.
11:39And that frees up, guess what, Julian Champagne.
11:41So there's Harrison Barnes.
11:43He takes the defender with him.
11:44That opens up Julian, who's trailing the break.
11:46He gets a wide-open three-ball, courtesy of Harrison Barnes.
11:49Old-school style, running all the way to the rim instead of the three-point line.
11:54And Julian Champagne gets a wide-open three-ball for your H-E-B inside the game.
11:58You want to make Sean Elliott happy.
11:59Run your lanes correctly.
12:00Yes, sir.
12:01Young kids in the game.
12:03When Sean's at your AAU game one day, maybe.
12:05Yeah, you hear me all the time.
12:07Like, I didn't like that break.
12:09You know, guys aren't getting out and running.
12:11We started every practice with Larry and Pop and, you know, all these coaches.
12:16And we'd get out, and the first thing we did was we'd, you know, practice three-on-two,
12:19two-on-one.
12:20And we'd run wide.
12:22Go run next to your teammate in the open court.
12:24Favorite drill of all time.
12:25Three-on-two, two-on-one.
12:26Yeah, that's a fun game.
12:28Right?
12:28Richie Shea.
12:29No.
12:29Over three.
12:30You're right.
12:30It was a fun way to learn.
12:31Right.
12:32Wasn't running suicide.
12:33It was a fun drill.
12:34Yeah, you get your conditioning.
12:36There you go.
12:37You learn how to run the floor.
12:38At least Kelvin again.
12:39Making a good decision.
12:41Always going right to the rim.
12:43K.J.
12:45All tied up at 15.
12:46Sohans checked in for the first time for the Spurs.
12:49A little early on in the season, but I have to see somebody compete.
12:53Kelvin going to the rim.
12:54You're right.
12:55He's forced his way to the rim against a lot of other big bodies.
12:58It was Monieka Kongwu for his first bucket.
13:04He's had a great year as well.
13:05Yeah, he played a really solid game against us in Atlanta last year.
13:09Champagne, another chance at a four-point play.
13:14It's about the fourth or fifth time this season that he's had a chance at a four-point play.
13:19Awfully deep in that corner.
13:22Nice five from Jeremy Sohan, and all he needs is a crack of daylight.
13:25Makes a quick decision to get that ball up, and you see the contest, and I've talked about those until I'm blue in the face.
13:34The art of the contest?
13:36The art of contest is gone.
13:37Yes, it is dead.
13:38We didn't have, I didn't have one coach in the history of my career who taught us to contest and then turn around and look at the shot without, you know, any wherewithal where your shooter was.
13:52Oh, what a block by Bissell.
13:56Champagne again.
13:59Time no good.
13:59Oh, Lennox coming in.
14:02Champagne head to the bench.
14:05He figured, hey, I might as well put one more up.
14:06Why not?
14:06I'm feeling great.
14:07Correct.
14:08Here's that block, Sean.
14:11Oh, Dem Bissell got back into play.
14:13Excellent effort to come up with that block.
14:17If you'd like to get something in the open court off of that.
14:19Daniels looking at the screen from Alexander Walker, crossing over, and a foul on the floor.
14:33Chopped from Alexander Walker, not counting.
14:35They call that on Devon, playing against the Hawks.
14:39Of course, he grew up in Atlanta, Petrie Ridge High School.
14:42His jersey was retired last year when the Spurs were in Atlanta.
14:45That was great to see.
14:46The first ever jersey retired at that high school.
14:48All right.
14:49All right, Devon.
14:57Three missing from Alexander Walker.
14:59Barnes, Skye for the rebound.
15:05Olenek to go to a cutting Sohan.
15:08Barnes, now Olenek.
15:11Down there to Jeremy.
15:14Lost it.
15:15Kelly Olenek is just old school.
15:17He's got a little bit of old school in him, right?
15:18I mean, he's not going to just take a lot of three balls looking for guys in the low block,
15:22and that's a great cut for Mokongwu.
15:24Mokongwu, Mokongwu's sixth season out of USC.
15:28Coming off of a four straight stretch of games.
15:3220 or more points.
15:3320 or more points.
15:3320 or more points.
15:3320 or more points.
15:34Barnes.
15:35Good that time.
15:37Sohan trying to track it down.
15:38And out of bounds.
15:41And see right there, that's just recognition.
15:43Keldon Johnson gave the ball up to Jeremy Sohan.
15:47There's nothing wrong with throwing it right back to Keldon.
15:50There are no help defenders on that side of the floor.
15:53I mean, back in the day, you throw it right back to him.
15:55He said, go to work.
15:56You have a smaller defender on you.
15:57There's no way anybody's going to stop you.
16:00It's going to be one of those nights where we just keep going back in time,
16:03back in your day.
16:04Well, I got Dominique Wilkins' team about three or four seats down to the left.
16:08You want to talk about old guys getting bitter and curmudgeonly.
16:12You need a mic for our conversations.
16:14You guys were talking about the injury concerns in the NBA.
16:18Of course, Dominique, color commentator for the Hawks.
16:24Man.
16:27Unbelievable, his career.
16:28Former Spur, obviously.
16:30There's a nightmare to defend.
16:32I promise you that.
16:33An absolute nightmare.
16:38Sohan.
16:40With that time.
16:41Keldon right there for two.
16:43Yeah, exactly.
16:45So you have that kind of physical ability.
16:47You just got to get greedy sometimes.
16:49I want Keldon to continue to impose his will.
16:53Johnson's strong move again.
16:55World-class effort.
16:56Things in the air.
16:57Throws his chest into the defense.
16:59Beautiful use of the glass.
17:02Missell.
17:03For three.
17:04Falling down.
17:08Devin Missell continues.
17:12Spurs by one.
17:13No one having a problem putting the ball in the basket tonight.
17:17Daniels off glass.
17:19Nice touch.
17:20Mason Daniels.
17:22Throwing his offensive game.
17:23Already one of the premier perimeter defenders.
17:26Barnes moves it.
17:29Vassell.
17:30But first step.
17:32He kicks out.
17:32Olynyk moves it.
17:34Barnes driving.
17:35Stepping through.
17:36A lot of ball movement here.
17:38Vassell a bit short.
17:40Had to kind of reach down for that pass.
17:41Going to throw you out of rhythm.
17:42A couple of sharpshooters have entered the lineup for Atlanta.
17:47Veet Krejci who's 10th in the league in three-point percentage.
17:50And then Luke Kennard who's always been so good from downtown.
17:53The sniper.
17:55Cannot lose vision.
17:57Forget about where he's at on the court.
17:59Shot clock at two.
18:00Daniels.
18:02Mokongwu.
18:02Does he have that in his game?
18:04Yes, he does.
18:05This season shot 41% for three.
18:07Goodness.
18:09He is having a career year.
18:11You have all these big guys shooting crazy percentages.
18:16Not back in your day.
18:18No, sir.
18:19If you're a big guy and you shot that one and you missed it.
18:21There were a couple, right?
18:22Yeah, you'd hear the horn.
18:24I mean, the coach is pulling you immediately.
18:29Mokongwu again.
18:31Short that time.
18:32That's all I've known is big men shooting threes growing up.
18:36I know.
18:36I know.
18:37The new generation.
18:39That's who it is.
18:44It's the Fiesta Court going back to the 90s for the Spurs City Edition.
18:49Sohan puts it in and Quinn Snyder has to call a timeout.
18:53San Antonio gets within two.
18:57Devin Macelles hit two of his first three shots in ten minutes.
18:59That shot looking great, Sean.
19:01Yes, it is.
19:01When he has time and he gets his feet set with that beautiful rotation,
19:05he can almost certainly put it on the board.
19:13Sean, I'm the cool uncle.
19:15There she is.
19:16And I promised her that I would get her on TV tonight.
19:19And so Omar and Marlena, good friends of mine,
19:22they're going to pay for my next dinner.
19:24You must be the coolest uncle there is.
19:27Yes, of course.
19:28Like D.O.
19:29Was there any doubt?
19:31No.
19:32You're right.
19:32Coolest dad, coolest granddad, coolest uncle, coolest brother.
19:36Yes.
19:37The list goes on.
19:38Trey Young, the last three seasons, the Hawks with and without.
19:41Of course, this year's seven and three, Atlanta is without Trey.
19:45Mentioned it.
19:46He plays so well in this building against the Spurs.
19:48He really has over the years.
19:50He's been a killer for us.
19:52But you look at the way these guys are playing now without him.
19:55I've played with ball-dominant point guards.
19:57I've played with guys who do a great job sprinting it around.
19:59And it seems to me that, you know, these guys on the floor,
20:03everybody wants to touch the ball,
20:05even though Trey Young is a brilliant, brilliant passer.
20:08It's also a lot of fun when everybody gets to touch it.
20:13Like I've said many times before,
20:15no one that I know has ever gotten into the game of basketball to defend.
20:19You don't go to the Y or the club to defend and show off your defensive skills.
20:24You want to go and you want to dribble it.
20:26You want to catch it.
20:26You want to shoot it.
20:27You want to be part of it on the offensive end of the floor.
20:30And when that happens,
20:32it carries over into the way you guys defend as well.
20:37Keaton Wallace, UTSA alum,
20:40take a look at the Roadrunners making the NBA.
20:43Derek Irvin, Devin Brown, Keaton Wallace.
20:48Of course, Derek, the brother of me.
20:51Derek Irvin had a smooth jumper, too.
20:53He scored.
20:54Happy to see Keaton back in San Antonio, second year.
21:00After playing for the Roadrunners, he's worked his way.
21:03He's going to be telling a great rotation player for Atlanta.
21:07K.J.
21:08Carter Bryant comes crashing in for the offensive rebound.
21:13And now Fox for three.
21:17And players go crashing out.
21:19Okungwu just got run into by Cornette by accident.
21:25Mohamed Gay also down for Atlanta.
21:30That did not look good.
21:31And Quint Snyder quickly out to check on his players.
21:36Boy.
21:37Yeah.
21:39And Atlanta has to call a timeout.
21:41Okungwu quickly up.
21:42I bet he's going to be just fine.
21:44He's just a little shaken up, more scared than anything.
21:47Look at those legs.
21:49I mean, those legs are strong.
21:51They're powerful.
21:52It's going to take a lot to get him out of the game.
21:55Atlanta calls a timeout.
21:57Okungwu going to walk it off.
21:58Mohamed Gay as well.
22:00Back in 30 seconds.
22:01Back in 30 seconds.
22:31And Sean, it's always interesting.
22:38There's so many trades, so many draft picks that get moved around between teams.
22:43And if one of your draft picks is coming from another team and you're playing them,
22:47you always want to beat them, right?
22:48Yes, of course.
22:48And that's the case with the Spurs and the Hawks.
22:51The Spurs own Atlanta, or rather they have swap rights for next year's pick,
22:56and then they just get it outright the following season.
22:58Yeah, how about that?
22:59And so you want to do yourself a favor.
23:01You want to win tonight's ballgame because you want to remain high in the standings,
23:05but then you help your cause come draft night.
23:08Even though it's a long season, it would help if you're able to knock off the Hawks twice.
23:12Atlanta right now, fifth in the Eastern Conference, nine and six.
23:19Well, Kongwu is out there along with Gay, so they feel okay to be out there after that spill.
23:26Cornette, Spurs basketball here, ten on the shot clock.
23:28Yeah, Kongwu's just five.
23:30Bryant, the Eurostep got blocked at the rim.
23:33Shot clock at three.
23:36Sohan stepping back.
23:38Couldn't hit it.
23:39Cornette there.
23:40Ball's still on the ground.
23:43Bryant trying to wrestle it away from the Hawks.
23:46And it's Atlanta basketball, but Carter Bryant was looking like he was going to go up for a big time.
23:51Yeah, I like his effort.
23:53He was active on the offensive glass already, and this one looked like he might throw that one down as well.
23:59But he's going to continue to learn on the fly.
24:01It's a little bit more difficult to get a shot off at this level.
24:08Okay.
24:09To Kennard.
24:10To close out from Sohan.
24:13Sharpshooter.
24:13Craychie's also been a sharpshooter.
24:15Right on cue.
24:16Tenth in the NBA in three-point percentage.
24:18Yeah, it's rare that a European comes over and can't shoot the ball.
24:23We've already talked about that.
24:26You know, the guy has like seven continents in his name.
24:30Then don't give him an open look.
24:33If I get a second life, I'm going to be hoping that I'm born in Europe.
24:38And shoot it right away as Kennard puts it in for three.
24:41And then there's Luke Kennard.
24:42So right now they have a lot of guys that can fill it up from beyond the arc.
24:45Leonard in his ninth year in the NBA.
24:50Gives Atlanta an eight-point lead.
24:52Six threes by the Hawks.
24:55Sohan, another try.
24:57Right to Fox.
24:59He drills it at the buzzer.
25:02Didn't even have to move.
25:03That's about as easy as it got.
25:04As it gets right, the ball pops right to him.
25:07I've got to say, I love the way Jeremy's jumper's looking right now.
25:10He's shooting a high percentage.
25:11He's not going to make them all.
25:12But I do like his form and his rotation a lot better.
25:15This one pops right out to De'Aaron Fox for his easiest look at the game.
25:20The play is under review to see if it's at least prior to that.
25:2334-28.
25:25Atlanta over the Spurs.
25:26Devin Vassell, the Georgia kid, going up against the team.
25:30He grew up watching.
25:31Second quarter action coming.
25:32All right, it's the Spurs and the Hawks.
25:35Second quarter action just about to start.
25:37Here inside of the Frostbank Center, Jacob Tobey and Sean Elliott.
25:41Fast-paced first quarter.
25:43And, of course, Atlanta coming in with the second most road wins in the league.
25:49They are not scared of playing on the road, Sean.
25:51As David Jones Garcia gets swatted in his first action in this game.
25:57And then a foul call.
25:59We're out of bounds.
26:00Yeah.
26:01That's good penetration there.
26:02But when you show the ball to a shot blocker, you give him an opportunity.
26:07See how he holds it out there against Porzingis?
26:09That's when you've got to play a little cat and mouse game at the rim.
26:12You've got to hide the ball as long as you possibly can.
26:15You can't show it to a shot blocker.
26:17Jones Garcia in the Cornette.
26:20Cornette out there with Jones Garcia, Fox, KJ, and Champagny.
26:24Fox up fake on the three.
26:26He got Porzingis to jump.
26:28Swinging around.
26:30Jones Garcia kicks it out.
26:33Keldon for three.
26:34Got it.
26:36That's what I talk about again.
26:41You go inside, you see the ball fall for you a few times,
26:44and you gravitate outside.
26:47Okongwu inside, Porzingis turns around and scores.
26:51There's no way he's going to stop when he catches it that close to the basket with his size.
26:56Porzingis is such a big part of that Celtics championship team last season.
27:01Champagny again for three.
27:03He has felt so good from downtown the last stretch of games.
27:06How about the reaction by Luke Gennard just throwing his hands up like,
27:09what am I supposed to do there?
27:10Champagny 46% his last four games from three.
27:13Okongwu missing from downtown.
27:15And the rebound of Jones Garcia.
27:17Valuable minutes here for the two-way player for the Spurs, Jones Garcia.
27:22Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
27:24Has he been out there with the starters very often?
27:26He's been out there most of the time with the second and third unit late in the ball game.
27:30And so it's a different style of play for him.
27:34Jones Garcia.
27:35Looking out of Memphis.
27:37When you're out there with the second and third team late in the game,
27:39you can afford to hold onto the ball a little bit longer.
27:42You can take, have more liberties with whatever shot you're taking,
27:46but not when you're out there with, you know,
27:48Darren Fox and Keldon and Julian and Luke Cornett.
27:51And you have to fit in a little bit more.
27:54Shot clock at 10.
27:57Fox.
27:59Keldon.
28:01Drives.
28:02KJ off glass.
28:03That's sweet.
28:04Absolutely.
28:05World-class decision there from Keldon.
28:10Fox guarding Kinnard here.
28:11Shot his two fouls.
28:13Mitch Johnson electing to keep him in.
28:15Wallace moves it.
28:18Kinnard hits it for three.
28:22Seven of the last nine seasons,
28:23Luke Kinnard has shot over 40% from downtown.
28:27As Fox answers and has a chance at a three-point play.
28:30That's a beautiful crossover.
28:31He's got two guys crashing into each other.
28:38He crossed up the defense and able to shed his defender,
28:42finds a bigger guy to pick on.
28:46Fox chanted a three-point play again.
28:4922 of his 26 coming in the second half against Memphis.
28:54That's why they got the Fox coming through in the fourth quarter.
28:57Yes, he did.
28:59Like I said, he missed a shot last week.
29:02Yep, Friday against the Warriors.
29:04Friday against the Warriors.
29:05And you're not going to make everyone.
29:07It goes back to that Michael Jordan commercial.
29:09All the shots that he took and didn't make every single one.
29:12But Darren Fox, most of the time,
29:13you're going to put your money on him.
29:14For Zing is calling for it.
29:15Fox came over and stole it.
29:17Over the top.
29:20Jones Garcia, nice pass.
29:21Cornette waits and scores.
29:24That's a terrific decision there from Jones Garcia,
29:27not to try to force it.
29:29Find Luke Cornette's streak into the basket.
29:30Creechie got fouled at the other end,
29:34but nice pass from the rookie.
29:36That's what I'm talking about.
29:37I mean, during the regular season
29:40or what we saw in exhibition season,
29:42he's going to take that shot late in the ball game.
29:44But now you're out there with the starters.
29:45You've got to feed your stars,
29:48and that's exactly what he does there with Luke Cornette.
29:50Mitch Johnson loved the way Jones Garcia played last game.
29:54Box score would reflect how much he meant to the team.
29:57So he looked at his pressure on defense,
30:00especially in the full court.
30:01Keldon, another three.
30:06That time, yes.
30:08Keldon Jones is unstoppable right now.
30:11Couldn't matter, inside now.
30:13Swipe up.
30:15Swipe up behind the back.
30:18And they'll slow it down.
30:20Keldon.
30:23Tapped out, Jones Garcia.
30:28Nine minutes remaining in the second quarter.
30:31Goes by five.
30:33Fox saves it.
30:35Keldon up fake.
30:36Same spot.
30:38And got it again.
30:41It's lit.
30:43Keldon on fire.
30:46Wooden looking to go inside on that one.
30:48Beautiful ball fake.
30:49He's just feeling awfully confident in that three-point shot.
30:53Ball moves around the horn.
30:54Beautiful ball fake there from Keldon.
30:56Drop off the defense from beyond the arc.
30:58Keldon Johnson on a heater.
31:01There are some things I love and some things I hate in this game.
31:07So I love the three-point shot.
31:09And then this is what I hate in this game.
31:11Unless other teams do it.
31:12Ready?
31:12Freeze it.
31:13I hate cross-court passes in the backcourt.
31:18This is right for a steal.
31:21Now, you know, our guys have been guilty of doing that a number of times throughout the years.
31:26But the end result is we end up getting a three-point ball.
31:30Keldon Johnson, he's going to get a—that's the first one.
31:35But then with the cross-court pass in the backcourt, when our guys do it, I just go silent.
31:40I can't—I can't say anything.
31:42And it's a lot more fun when I see other teams do it.
31:46But it's one of those things where if you want to get the ball picked off, go ahead and throw a cross-court pass in the backcourt.
31:52You're asking for trouble.
31:53What would Larry Brown or Coach Pop do to you if you did that practice?
31:58Can't talk about it.
31:59I can't say the words.
32:00As Johnson, who's come back in, puts it in.
32:05Jalen Johnson, Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
32:07What a player he's turned into.
32:08Fifth year out of Duke.
32:0920th overall pick in 2021.
32:14Fox.
32:15Shut off.
32:17Cornette.
32:18In the attack, he kicks out.
32:19Keldon's already got 15 points in this first half.
32:22Oh, shoot that, Keldon.
32:23Just get two feet underneath you and power your way up.
32:27Alexander Walker.
32:29No good on the three.
32:30KJ taps it to De'Aaron.
32:33The Spurs looking for three straight wins.
32:35It blows out this five-game homestand before going on the road for four.
32:39They turn it over, and Atlanta gives it right back.
32:45Atlanta middle of the pack in terms of turnovers.
32:52Spurs always looking to improve in that category.
32:54Mr. 100% is back in.
32:56Everyone beware.
32:57We're just waiting.
33:01I got my little button.
33:02I'm ready to purse.
33:03Your button is on there.
33:08Jones Garcia gets some good run in this game.
33:12Played seven minutes on Tuesday.
33:14Incredibly valuable minutes for him.
33:17Driving, hanging, and off glass.
33:19Did he switch hands in the air there?
33:21Looked like he put it in his right hand to keep it away from the defense.
33:24Shot by Jones Garcia to get into the box score.
33:29Strip, turned over.
33:34Barnes.
33:36He had to kick out.
33:37He'll reset.
33:39Devin against Krejci.
33:40Almost lost the handle.
33:42Move it around.
33:43Jones Garcia, the pump fake.
33:46Stepping back.
33:47He's not bashful at all.
33:54He's not shy about putting the ball up.
33:57Largest lead for the Spurs.
33:58They're up 11.
34:00Nice defense from Keldon.
34:01Hanging in the air with Johnson.
34:03Not to foul.
34:05Jones Garcia almost walked with it.
34:07And then a foul called against Dyson Daniels.
34:12Go back to switching in midair.
34:14The hands.
34:15El Manos.
34:15Los Manos.
34:16You got a big guy on.
34:17You go ahead as a guard and pick on him.
34:20And he comes back.
34:21And I just surveyed the situation.
34:23He didn't give me that much space.
34:24I just made a crazy shot.
34:26I'm going to let that one fly.
34:2924-7 run for the Spurs the last 441.
34:37Jones Garcia.
34:40Shake and bake.
34:42And got it again.
34:44That was slick.
34:46He never put his left hand back on the ball.
34:49Never allowed the defense to get back in the play.
34:51A little quick scoop off the glass.
34:53Largest lead for the Spurs.
34:56Daniels.
34:57Short on the three.
34:58Sohan the rebound.
35:00Vassell.
35:03Lost it on the drive.
35:04Lennox saves it.
35:05But Alexander Walker almost got the steal off of Jones Garcia.
35:10The official said.
35:11To the Spurs ball.
35:13It's Johnson.
35:14Will they challenge?
35:17He's going to have to challenge.
35:19Yep.
35:25Oh.
35:28I'm not sure about that one, Sean.
35:29Yeah.
35:30Well, they didn't have enough time to look at it.
35:32And Mitch had to make a split decision there.
35:34And it just looked like it was off Atlanta.
35:36So, the officials will take a look.
35:41A little shake and bake from Jones Garcia.
35:43He's feeling it off the bench.
35:46And take a look again, Sean.
35:49Can't win them all, right?
35:50Yeah, no.
35:51Can't win them all.
35:52And I don't think they just didn't have enough time to look at it.
35:54And Mitch had to make a split decision there.
35:57And it just looked like it was off Atlanta.
36:02Well, Atlanta wins the challenge.
36:04Or rather, the Spurs lose the challenge.
36:05Atlanta basketball.
36:06David Jones Garcia.
36:08Six minutes.
36:09Seven points.
36:10Three assists off the bench.
36:11Eight NBA players all time from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
36:16Three college stops.
36:17DePaul, St. John's, and Memphis.
36:19And again, all rookie first team in 2025 in the G League was a walking bucket
36:25and was really the story of the summer league, Sean, wasn't it?
36:28Yeah, he really did a phenomenal job.
36:30And that's why he's here.
36:31And I will just point out to you, Jacob, that he's only played six minutes
36:35and he's already got a plus 19.
36:37How is that possible?
36:39You're mentioning plus minus.
36:40That's pretty good for you.
36:42I only mention it when it works out in our favor.
36:44Oh, okay.
36:45But most of the time, you know how I feel about that stat.
36:48I mean, plus 19 in six minutes, I mean, that's pretty hard to do.
36:52Yeah.
36:53The officials are still looking at something here.
36:56Nobody knows.
37:00I have no idea.
37:03But they're talking to Secaucus, NBA replay center.
37:09And the team's told to go back to their huddles.
37:15Maybe somebody saw another angle that we didn't.
37:21They already kind of made the determination that the Spurs had lost the challenge.
37:25But Brent Barnacki and Jonathan Sterling having a little conference with Secaucus.
37:33I'm curious, too.
37:36Brent Barnacki, 16th season in the league.
37:38Crew chief tonight.
37:40Natalie Sago in her eighth year.
37:41She's the referee.
37:42And then Jonathan Sterling, our umpire, in his ninth season.
37:47Replaying this play here.
37:48Oh, yeah.
37:51You know, they got it right.
37:55I guess there was some confusion in the replay center, but it's all straightened out.
37:58Yeah, unfortunately, they got that one right.
38:00Unfortunately, the confusion didn't lead to an overturn of the overturn.
38:03All right, back to basketball.
38:11First by 13.
38:13It's their largest lead.
38:16One more home game before hitting the road over the Thanksgiving break.
38:21How about Mitch Johnson coming out of the zone?
38:24Oh.
38:26He is not happy about that call.
38:28Showed his frustration off to the side.
38:35Take a look at it.
38:37Oh, look back.
38:38Kelly Olenek got a lot of ball there.
38:40And the Spurs can't challenge because they lost.
38:42Unfortunately, yeah, but that's a lot of ball.
38:45So, free throws here for Atlanta.
38:50Jalen Johnson.
38:53And goes in.
38:55Johnson, last year, just 36 games due to
38:57that left shoulder surgery he had to have in January.
39:01But he has become one of the young stars in the NBA.
39:04No question.
39:05He's got a big body.
39:07He's super athletic.
39:08But he's just a well-rounded player.
39:15Sohan out there with Olenek, Barnes, Vassell,
39:18and David Jones, Garcia.
39:19Kelly for three.
39:20And he sees body language.
39:22As soon as he let it go, he knew it was good.
39:24He's got to continue to be a threat out there.
39:26And missed layup.
39:29From the Spurs.
39:32Sohan.
39:35Olenek, up fake that time.
39:38Moves it.
39:39Jones Garcia, another pump fake.
39:41They're biting on it.
39:43Now Vassell drives.
39:44And scores.
39:45Oh, you get all those white jerseys moving side to side
39:48and killed it.
39:49Sorry, rather, Devin.
39:50It was a great job just finding the seam.
39:54Keal Alexander Walker, again, puts it down for three.
39:59He's got ten points.
40:00The ball looked good as soon as it left his hand.
40:03Pretty looking shot.
40:06Spurs have 11 threes here in the first half.
40:09A season high for three-pointers made in a half.
40:1111 of 23, 48 percent.
40:17Right now hovering middle of the pack in terms of three-point percentage.
40:21Fifteen in the league.
40:23We always talk about it, Sean, trying to surround Victor and the big fellas with three-point shooting.
40:28Spurs continuously getting better on the three-point line.
40:30Certainly improved.
40:32There he is.
40:33You're always interested in what he's wearing.
40:34What do you think?
40:35Review it.
40:36Oh, man, I just got a quick glimpse, but it looks very vacation-y and beach-y.
40:41You're right.
40:42Right?
40:44Like the khaki-colored pants, the palm trees.
40:49One of those little rhinos or elephants or hippos on his.
40:53It's hard to tell.
40:56Spurs head to Phoenix for the first stop of the four-game road trip.
41:00You should wear that out in Phoenix and fit right in.
41:04I don't know if there's no beach, but on the golf course, perhaps.
41:07Oh, yeah.
41:07Easy.
41:08Right?
41:09Look at dresses for all occasions.
41:14Politic.
41:17Spinning.
41:18And got the foul call.
41:19So Kelly to the free throw line.
41:21I like the spin move, and then I like how he throws his body.
41:24And the cry check there just doesn't allow the big fella to get back in the play.
41:30He's losing two.
41:31To one.
41:36Politic.
41:38Seventh NBA team.
41:41Went to the finals in 2020.
41:43With the Heat.
41:45Now a message from Frostbanks.
41:46You mentioned the four game road trip for the Spurs you are making game one of that road trip game one in game four game one in game
42:02Four he's in the two cup games games two and three will be joined by Danny Green all right Danny
42:10The Spurs
42:16I don't have any kids yet because it's Thanksgiving week we got the kids coming to town
42:21It's just going to be turkey time and hanging out with the family. Yes
42:27You got your number of people coming over the house for the meal and then the after meal
42:31You always have people come over for wine after I know that of course waiting for my invitation when the Spurs aren't playing
42:38That's an extra trip to the grocery store
42:41To ATV that long grocery list that you I'm sure you used
42:44Babe Jacob Toby's coming for Thanksgiving. Oh boy. Okay
42:49Politic again for two speaking of food guess with the halftime food. We're trying out chicken wings
42:59That's gonna make the truck upset
43:01Ha
43:02And the truck does not get any
43:05That ball goes out of bounds
43:07Fox is going to come back in here for Jones Garcia great stint for David Jones Garcia
43:17Bobo's that's all
43:18I don't mean on all of them. Yeah all of it
43:21Great job
43:23Great job finding a way to score the ball and it'll be a part of the other guys out there on the floor
43:28Poor Zing is heading to the rim. He was fouled. He actually scored his 1,000 career point in the first quarter
43:35He stopped for Zingas
43:38Excuse me 10,000. I was gonna say 10,000. I can't read today. I can't speak. I can't do anything. It's missing the zero. That's all right
43:46It's part for the corner. I'm just gonna leave
43:48I
43:50I
43:52Reach a
43:54Hasn't had it great to see him in this game shot. He took a hard fall a couple games ago. That's why he had to miss last game
44:00Back in the lineup for us
44:05Johnson off the Spurs turnover Alexander Walker falling down hitting another three. That's his third 13 points for him timeout Spurs
44:13I
44:15Don't think Mitch Johnson liked that transition defense
44:21Timeout Atlanta cuts the deficit to 13 there by as many
44:2716
44:30320 remaining in the first half
44:36For that four-game road trip you'll be in Phoenix for
44:39The second matchup against the Suns work, you know the Spurs gonna want to get one back after that first game
44:44We're not gonna first time we saw Victor kind of struggle with that double team. Yeah, everybody struggles with it. Yeah, really? I mean
44:50You can't really fault him that we saw so many examples that game where our guys didn't space the floor very well
44:57Kind of left Victor out there on an island and so they did a much better job in the subsequent games after that
45:03But it's gonna be different to see how the Suns defend our guys without Victor on the floor. Yep
45:09And the Blazers
45:11Danny Green will be on hand for that and the Nuggets
45:15And then the Timberwolves will see you in Minnesota. How about our ledger defensive block of the night? Devin the cell nice cross over there by Daniels, but
45:22About Demba cells is hanging in there showing all that length and athleticism to come with your ledger defensive block of the night
45:30Someone's got to step in for Victor on the block. That's got a little Victor
45:33It was Devin there. It's not easy to do but Devin he climbed the ladder on that one. Yes, he did
45:43Devin just
45:45Played well against the Hawks in his career. This is his tenth game against Atlanta last year averaged
45:51What is it 22 a game against the Hawks in two games, so he's trying to show off when he goes home. That's all
45:59You were too. I'm sure going back to oh, you know the Suns always
46:02Barnes weights got hammered by Porzingis and he'll get to the free throw line
46:11A lot of players that just are not used to seeing that little hesitation
46:17Especially the guy like Porzingis. He's the last guy off the floor
46:20He should always fall through the late contestant. He's trying to beat Harrison Barnes off the floor ends up fouling
46:25And I loved what Steve Kerr a couple games ago said about Harrison Barnes just what a leader he is
46:34He said they used to call him Barack
46:37Very presidential. Yeah, he is
46:39He's always cool collected never overreacts or
46:43You know
46:44Never out of sorts. You can't tell if it's going really well for me really poorly for
46:50Oh
46:52Rarely do the emotions come out but seen him on a couple occasions on some big dunks. He's still got those ups
47:02Always making proud to see old guys throwing it down because I know what I felt like at 32 or 33 years old
47:08Shot clock going down crazy for three too strong that time right out to reach a
47:13Again no good from exactly reach a over six from the field and he's returned to the court
47:23Jalen Johnson kicks out Porzingis checks his feet
47:27He misses from three
47:29Try to go inside after three or two outside visits from beyond the arc
47:34Fox again for three
47:37Keeps looking at that hand and count the fingers three fingers
47:40Meanwhile our guys cooking from beyond the arc yes, they are 50 percent 12 of 24 as johnson puts in another buck
47:49Oh, what do you know jalen johnson goes inside and gets one to fall?
47:54Devin visele's turn
47:56Throw it on the three
47:58Johnson comes back down inside
48:01Alexander walker no good that shot was chained from visele. That was a great contest again
48:05Shovel pass underneath ball movement for the spurs keldin and one
48:14He's a man
48:15Hey, man, there's nothing wrong with running all the way to the basket keep saying it
48:20There's
48:25Darren Fox nice little jab step
48:27Grits some space gets that three-point shot off
48:32And kelvin johnson running all the way to the basket a lot of guys again
48:36They're going to settle outside in that short corner and look for a three ball
48:40But why not take the high percentage shot at the rim and get three the hard way?
48:44Seventy-two first half points for the spurs a new season high
48:51Stat courtesy of my statistician joe clark long time employee of the spurs my man sitting right next to me keeps me on
49:00with everything
49:04Joe he's about to be
49:07His son aj getting married pretty soon here pretty happy you're right yes
49:12aj
49:13Gets buckets on me on saturday's
49:15former trinity buffets cooper
49:19Cornette inside and fouled
49:25Luke cornette will get free throws
49:29Alexander walker
49:32His first
49:34Oh
49:38Playing against his former teammate porzingis with the celtics
49:42In a championship together last year yeah
49:45There's a good story in
49:47san antonio express news about luke
49:49jeff mcdonald talking about
49:51A couple years ago luke had a couple 10-day contract stints
49:55With cleveland and milwaukee then ended up with the main celtics in the g league and he was sort of questioning his future
50:01In basketball and he had to ask himself if i'm not having fun in the g league
50:05i'm not going to have fun at the next level so i'm going to start having fun
50:08And that's where he really started to gain that love back right and he's been such an important piece not only the southies but for the spurs
50:15Well that's who you always say you have fun and everything else will follow
50:26The one minute mark of the first half
50:30Pretty much all spurs here johnson fading away
50:32And he uses glass again isn't that glass nicely in this game yes he is
50:36He's got 15 first half points that little jump stop
50:40That way you get your feet underneath to your legs underneath you go up into that shot with a lot more power
50:47Box checking the clock here trying to get a two for one if they can
50:50And penny shot clock at four out to mr. 100 percent
51:01That time
51:07Porzingis quick fire got it
51:12Stops porzingis career 37 percent three-point shooting
51:15It's just weird to see a guy with seven foot three or so searching out the three-point line
51:25I have please have changed
51:28Shot clock turned off
51:30De'arren lost it foul called
51:34Free throws for fox
51:36Great he just has his hands down
51:39You're not going to steal it from here and fox
51:41You have sides on a smaller
51:45Opponent the last thing you want to do is go down to their size
51:49You want to keep your hands up and make them make a tough contested shot over the top of you
51:54Loved what fox said a couple days ago when the best player goes down the good teams don't start dropping games
52:00What a mentality to have of course down victor down castle down harper and the spurs trying to just stay ready
52:08It's easier said than done
52:11Especially when you lose an anchor like victor women yama
52:14Spurs fans if you ever miss a live game you catch up
52:18With all the game replays on the fan duel sports network app as soon as the final whistle blows you can watch every highlight in every big moment
52:26so hand at the buzzer no good
52:30That's how the first half ends the spurs go up by as many as 19 they lead it by 14
52:38What do you think mr
52:40Elliot hey nice first half and now you got to come out of the locker room it's the first five minutes this team has let
52:45A lot of other teams back in it early on in the second half
52:49Come out and let the hawks know they have no chance to win this one
52:52Helden's got 18 first half points michelle montane tj ford halftime report
