00:00It is just a gorgeous day here in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
00:06Minimal win moments ago, our Melanie Collins caught up with one of the great edge rushers
00:11in the NFL for the Giants, Brian Burns.
00:15Well, Brian, knowing how shorthanded you are in the secondary today, what's the mentality
00:20of this front?
00:21Man, really just take the game over.
00:23You know, we only had a couple games where we were able to show what we can do, and I
00:26think we can put it all together for four quarters in this game.
00:29Yeah, last week it was Saquon Barkley, this week it's Christian McCaffrey, your old teammate.
00:33What is going to be the key to containing him, not just on the ground, but in the passing
00:36game as well?
00:38Really?
00:39Christian's hard to guard.
00:40You know, multiple ways he can, you know, affect the game.
00:43He gets a lot of touches, and he's basically a robot, but that's like my brother, but at
00:47the end of the day, we have to corral him, you know, make him stop his feet, make him
00:50check his feet, and get as many hats to the ball as possible.
00:52Good luck today, Brian.
00:53Thanks so much.
00:53Thank you so much.
00:55I think he said he's like a robot.
00:57He did.
00:57He referred to him as a robot, so yeah, I heard the same thing.
01:02I was like, oh, all right.
01:03Just had the toss of the coin.
01:05San Francisco won.
01:06They'll defer.
01:07They'll take the second half.
01:09Giants will get it.
01:10There is Eddie Pinheiro, the NFC Special Team Kicker of the Month, and deep end for the
01:17Giants, Jalen Hyatt, and Gunnar Osheski.
01:21Here we go.
01:22Osheski will retrieve at the nine for the G-Men.
01:28And weaving his way out past the 35.
01:30Terrific return.
01:31Takes it out there and brought down by Saran Neal.
01:3529-yard return.
01:37And this takes us to quarterback Jackson Dart.
01:40He began at USC.
01:42Finished up under Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss.
01:44And he starts his sixth consecutive game.
01:46Well, and really, we talked in the open about the spark that he has brought.
01:50And not just him.
01:51Cam Scadaboo unfortunately got hurt last week.
01:54But just the rookies, the energy they brought in.
01:56And a couple of big results with the win over Philly and the win over the Chargers.
02:00Tyrone Tracy is the back and against the call on first and ten.
02:05Getting a block up there from John Michael Schmitz, who is the center.
02:10And he is brought down, hit there by Bethune and others on that defense of San Francisco.
02:17All right.
02:18Running backs will be in focus with Cam Scadaboo injured and out for the rest of the season.
02:24Well, we just saw Tracy with that first carry, and it's going to be a combination.
02:27You've got to remember a year ago as a rookie, Tracy rushed for nearly 900 yards.
02:31There he is again, but Redwell coming through, making the stop.
02:35Jordan Elliott makes the stop.
02:39It'll be third down coming up with no gain on the play.
02:42Well, and that's going to be important for the 49ers defensively.
02:46They've got a lot of injuries up front along that defensive line.
02:48That time Elliott just winning right off the bat against Schmitz
02:52and getting to the backfield, forcing this third down.
02:57It'll be third down and five.
03:01Out of this defense now, full of backups for San Francisco.
03:04Dart, crumbling pocket, and he has the first down.
03:08Bethune got him.
03:10He's up to the 47, 48-yard line of the Giants.
03:13A gain of seven on third and five.
03:15You're going to see Rush from the right-hand side, going to get through right away.
03:21See?
03:21But he goes to the ground, and so when you go to step up,
03:25Dart sees a big hole in the middle, and he's able to pick up the first down.
03:27Quick count, and there's a quick throw with the catch made.
03:34Bethune again, the tackle.
03:36This is Darius Slayton who makes the grab.
03:38There's a new starting right tackle today.
03:41Marcus Bowe taking the place of the injured Jermaine Illuminor.
03:46So a change up front for the New York Giants.
03:48Well, you're going to hear that.
03:50It's a constant message we're going to have today is the number of injuries on both sides of the football,
03:54and guys that are replacing them are going to have to find a way to step up.
03:58It's the twirling Tracy on second down and four, and he's got the first down.
04:04Jumped out of bounds.
04:05Bethune was over there, and others gain a seven.
04:07It is a first down for New York, and the game-opening drive, and they've got it at the 40.
04:12Well, this is just a quick decision.
04:14Get the ball out in space, almost like a toss play when you get it out to the edge that quickly.
04:18But you can see the eyes of Dart looking up the field.
04:21They dropped into zone coverage.
04:23He got the ball out quick, gave him a chance to get yards after catch.
04:27Dart is the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month of October with a handoff here, and they get a little run.
04:34Submarining to the 35 with a gain of five on the play.
04:39And that is Singletary, who began as a Bill and now a Giant.
04:43And without Cam Scadaboo, it's going to be these two running backs and the load there for Coach Brian Dable.
04:50Well, and Kevin, first down is going to be so important for both of these teams just because, as we take a look at this run real quick.
04:57And look at Singletary again inside the 30-yard line.
05:01Weatherstop by Renardo Green.
05:03Well, first downs are going to be so important as we move forward in this game just because of the, on the defensive side, Robert Sala doesn't like to mix things up.
05:11Everything's pretty, I don't want to say simple, but you're keeping things more normal in terms of your play calling.
05:16Where it gets very complex is on third down.
05:18So, the Giants want to be effective and run the ball good on first down so that they can keep them out of those designs.
05:24And they go to the side looking for Theo Johnson.
05:26And covered in the play by outside linebacker D Winters.
05:30Johnson has already grabbed four touchdown receptions this year.
05:34Second down and ten.
05:36Well, a little delay shoot route up the sideline and not able to connect on it.
05:43Darts like, just look.
05:44Look back.
05:45He didn't look too soon and he's trying to back shoulder him and missed opportunity.
05:54Second down and ten.
05:56And the movement there.
05:59John Husty is our referee.
06:01This is on a fraction.
06:05Defense number 92.
06:07Five-yard penalty.
06:08Second down.
06:09It's on their starting defensive lineman Jordan Elliott.
06:14Just trying to time up that cadence.
06:16We've seen Dart do this a few times as a young guy.
06:19Being able to use that hard count, it's a big advantage for him.
06:22And we've seen it several times this season as the starter.
06:25So, Dart had a run of seven.
06:27Tracy had a catch and run of seven.
06:30And we saw Singletary run one for eight.
06:33It's second down and ten.
06:35Singletary slithers into the secondary.
06:39Brought down.
06:40Cleland Furl is the one who caught up with them with others.
06:43It's another gain of eight.
06:44His second on the drive to the 15 of San Francisco.
06:47Well, and this is an area of concern for the 49ers is the injuries that they've had along the front.
06:52And also, no Fred Warner's on IR as well.
06:56So, getting those guys up front, you can see the game plan for the Giants today is going to be hitting it right in the middle.
07:01Again, mostly backups, it feels like, on that line.
07:06We're at the first and ten.
07:09Outside, Johnson.
07:11Into the defensive line.
07:12Oh, and he dives.
07:15And it is a touchdown.
07:19He got in.
07:21Delayed call.
07:22They looked at each other.
07:2315-yard touchdown.
07:25Well, one guy's signal touchdown.
07:27One guy thought he stepped out at the two or three.
07:29Right, and they looked at each other, and there was a long pause.
07:31But he gets it on a 15-yard touchdown pass.
07:35Dart to his tight end.
07:36Let's see if he steps out.
07:38He's able to stay in bounds.
07:40And over the pylon.
07:41And over the pylon.
07:43Quickly confirmed.
07:46How about that for an opening drive for the Giants?
07:48Good looking.
07:49You're right.
07:49And they ran it, and they had a little bit of passing in there.
07:52Two, three, or four.
07:53Dart.
07:53There's Graham Gonneau to tack on one more.
07:56Seven-nothing Giants.
07:59Couple eight-yard runs by Singletary.
08:01Then Tyrone Tracy, a catch-and-run of seven.
08:04Dart with a first-down run of seven.
08:07And then, with his fifth touchdown reception of the season,
08:10The tight end, Theo Johnson for the Giants.
08:13If it's up, then it's up.
08:15If it's up, then it's up.
08:17The NFL on CBS is sponsored by DirecTV.
08:23Stream DirecTV satellite-free.
08:27Whole Foods Market.
08:28Eat well for less.
08:30With hundreds of weekly sales.
08:32And by Capital One.
08:35What's in your wallet?
08:36Our crew and their families with some Halloween cheer.
08:44That drive, scoring on an opening drive of a game since Dart took over,
08:49it has now happened, Trent, four times in six games,
08:53which is a remarkable thing for a rookie quarterback.
08:56Well, and really, the consistency that they used,
08:59they used some up-tempo.
09:00You saw them getting at the line of the scrimmage quite a few times throughout the course of that drive.
09:04The success that they were having on first down is really what led to the success of that drive
09:09because it kept them out of some of the complex pressures that Robert Sala likes to bring.
09:14So, you put together your script of opening drives.
09:18That was executed perfectly for the Giants.
09:21Jamie Gillen will be kicking off for the Giants.
09:24And deep back for the 49ers will be Brian Robinson and Sky Moore.
09:29Both acquired before this season began.
09:33Robinson from Washington.
09:35Moore in a trade with the Chiefs.
09:37They'll be looking into that, son.
09:44There is minimal breeze.
09:46And here we go, taken by Moore.
09:49And a former high pick by the Chiefs is upended on the play
09:52and tackled by Zaire Barnes of the Giants with a 30-yard return.
09:58So, you've watched a lot of tape on Matt Jones.
10:01He's with his third team, seventh consecutive start.
10:04What do you see?
10:05I see someone that fits really well into this offense, and he's playing well.
10:08They're giving him time in the pocket.
10:09He's protected well, and he's getting the ball out very efficient with what he's done.
10:14You see Brock Purdy there missing his seventh start this season because of the toe injury.
10:18But that's why it's so important to have a valuable backup.
10:21He was not going to be number two today.
10:23That is Adrian Martinez with a quick catch made by Kittle,
10:29whacked on the play by Burns, picks up four to the 36.
10:33Well, it's important to get 85 back because Kittle is such a vital piece when he is healthy.
10:37One of the best tight ends in the NFL.
10:40And good quick throw there in decision by Mack Jones.
10:43Yeah, Kittle was an IRL for five weeks.
10:46He started now his third consecutive game.
10:48This is McCaffrey trying to burrow his way.
10:50Redwell brought down.
10:53Minimal gain, if anything, on the play.
10:55And they had a host of guys in there, including Rakeem Nunez-Roches.
11:00So, this offensive line for the second consecutive week, Trent, will face a difficult edge rush.
11:07Well, that's why I said it was important for Mack Jones to get the ball out of his hands quickly
11:10because Brian Burns leads the NFL in sacks with 10, and they like to bring pressure off the edges.
11:16The San Francisco 49er offensive line is going to have to hold up.
11:19Both starting quarterbacks and the starting safety out for the Giants secondary today,
11:26third and seven, and across the middle and trying to dig.
11:30It's Jennings and held back.
11:32Belton got him.
11:33And I think he's short by a yard to the 41 of San Francisco on the catch by Jawan Jennings.
11:40Well, no hesitation by Kyle Shanahan here.
11:43Not sending out the punting unit, keeping the offense on the field.
11:47Good rally tackle there.
11:49Oh, I think we spoke.
11:50By the Giants.
11:50He spoke too soon.
11:51Oh, now they switch it out.
11:53I did.
11:56He thought because, eh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
11:59Do I give them the ball if we don't make it?
12:01They're getting the ball at the 41, 42 yard line.
12:04And now they're going to think about it some more.
12:09How about that?
12:10Yep.
12:11So the injury story for both teams has been significant, right?
12:15But the 49ers, like the Giants, have been hit about as hard as any team in the NFL.
12:22And Ayuk hasn't even played.
12:24Purdy has been out.
12:25Pierce Saul has missed the last fight.
12:27They think maybe next week.
12:28But Bosa's gone.
12:29Warner's gone.
12:30Those are two pillars of the defense right there.
12:32Right.
12:32And look, and this is just part of it.
12:35This is, we can't put up, we can't put up everybody on this, on this list.
12:39He already mentioned that Kittle was out for five games on IR.
12:44So there have been, there have been injuries all over the place.
12:46And you go on both teams, on both teams.
12:48And now they went back to their original.
12:50They're going for it here on fourth down.
12:52They're going to change like that midstream.
12:55I think they saw the spot perhaps.
12:57And it's a little bit shorter than we thought.
12:59So it's a half yard to go.
13:00Or less.
13:01Well, I wouldn't be surprised.
13:02They start off with a hard count here to try and get a cheap one.
13:04And then, and then execute the play.
13:06Hughes check is the fullback.
13:09Jones, so keeping himself.
13:12Well, it looked like there was some movement on the play.
13:14Dable's going crazy on the far sideline.
13:16But there's no penalty flag on the field.
13:22And they're getting the first down.
13:25Out to the 43.
13:27And the drive will continue.
13:28Watch it again.
13:29Keep an eye here on the.
13:31It looked disjointed, didn't it?
13:32Yeah.
13:35First and ten.
13:36It's McCaffrey again.
13:38Right into the grasp of Muasau and others.
13:40There's Okereke.
13:42And again a three to the 46.
13:46Where McCaffrey is near the top of all the important categories.
13:50He used check really jumped.
13:53Yeah, the line looked like they timed it out perfectly.
13:59Second down seven.
14:00Williams the block at the left tackle.
14:02It's McCaffrey.
14:04They'll dance.
14:05Dive.
14:05And he has the first down with Nubin around his waist.
14:0745-yard line.
14:09Pickup of nine.
14:10On second down and seven.
14:12Good job there by Jones.
14:14Understanding he had to get the ball out of his hands quickly.
14:16Because the pressure was coming.
14:18Knowing where his outlet was.
14:19And then.
14:20Of course having an outlet like McCaffrey.
14:22Makes it.
14:23Makes it easy to pick up that first down.
14:28Kyle Shanahan said.
14:29Kyle.
14:31This great running back.
14:32McCaffrey has got it here on first and ten.
14:35He makes our offense go.
14:36Makes our passing game run.
14:39Black makes the stop.
14:40A loss of three on the play.
14:42And he's back to the 48.
14:44But boy when you take a look at what he's done.
14:46Not just this year.
14:47But the breadth of his career.
14:49It is pretty impressive.
14:50Yeah those are historical numbers.
14:52And those are Hall of Fame players right there.
14:54So good company to be in if you're Christian McCaffrey.
14:58Comes into today.
14:59The second leading receiver in the entire league.
15:03Regardless of position.
15:05Second down 13.
15:07Good time for Jones.
15:08And it is.
15:11Banks was down there.
15:13Chousting with Watkins.
15:15It is a catch for San Francisco.
15:18Crabbed by Jordan Watkins.
15:19Banks is all over him.
15:21And they're still wrestling.
15:24But it's a first down throw and a pick up of 19 through the air.
15:27Kevin when this ball left his hand I thought it was going to be intercepted.
15:30But what a great job by Watkins to come back for it.
15:33They try undercutting it.
15:37You can see both players having possession of the ball.
15:39That's why the officials gave it to the 49ers.
15:43But if he didn't come back to the ball that was going to be intercepted.
15:46Here's Chaco Block.
15:47First and ten pitch.
15:48McCaffrey wheels.
15:49Got another block in there by Hennessy.
15:52And he's down to the ten.
15:53And brought down by Dane Belton.
15:56A 17 yard run.
15:58They'll say his knee hit at the 12.
15:59Well Juszczyk's going to get out in space.
16:05He's going to be the one to kick it out.
16:06That allows McCaffrey to cut inside.
16:08Good job by the offensive line stepping up to that second level.
16:11You see Williams there walling off the linebacker.
16:20It's a first down and ten.
16:22First drive today for San Francisco after the Giants took it.
16:2665 yards and an opening touchdown pass by Dart.
16:32Joan.
16:34And that'll be grabbed inside the ten.
16:36It's Jennings who is drilled on the play by Corey Black.
16:40With a gain of four.
16:42And Trent put him at the eight.
16:45Well this is an important part of the field.
16:47Obviously the red zone you get in there.
16:48You want to make quick throws.
16:49You're able to get it out of his hands quickly.
16:51A lot of times coordinators like to call that.
16:58Get a little bit of a drive starter.
16:59Or a play start one first down.
17:01Just to pick up a quick chunk of yards.
17:03Spencer Burford is starting at the left guard today for San Francisco.
17:08Second down and six.
17:10McCaffrey.
17:11One on one.
17:12Black is there.
17:13Hit by Belton.
17:14And creeps inside.
17:16Maybe the five.
17:17With a gain of three.
17:18It'll be third and three.
17:20On the first drive by the 49ers today.
17:25Multiple times now we've called Black's name.
17:27Coming up and run support.
17:30Or even on those short passes to the outside.
17:32Good sure tackle that time.
17:34And Corey Black was on the Jets practice squad about ten days ago.
17:38Isn't that crazy?
17:39That just tells you the injuries.
17:41I mean injuries on both sides.
17:42But with four secondary players injured today.
17:46Just on this lineup card.
17:49Twelfth play of the drive.
17:51Williams with Black McCaffrey.
17:52Touchdown.
18:00And each quarterback with a touchdown pass.
18:03And their first possession this afternoon in the Meadowlands.
18:06We'll keep an eye on McCaffrey coming out of the backfield here.
18:14The Giants run a lot of man coverage.
18:19And that time he just got lost as he snuck out through the back side.
18:23And Trent, what about that big call by Shanahan to go for it on fourth down when they brought out the punting unit and took the timeout and rethought?
18:31Yeah, it was a smart decision obviously now.
18:34You know, you make that first down.
18:36You got the quarterback sneak and finish it off with a touchdown.
18:39Pinheiro with the extra point.
18:41McCaffrey had a 17-yard run.
18:43Then his quarterback finds him in the end zone for six.
18:47Tied at seven on CBS.
18:48Matt Jones, who was six of six on that drive.
18:57It only had two touchdown passes the past three games.
19:00Comes up on the game opener on a 12-play 68-yard drive.
19:05Finds McCaffrey for the touchdown pass.
19:08Fifth consecutive start.
19:10He's 4-2 taking the place of Brock Purdy, who is inactive today.
19:16That was a talk around the Bay Area this past week.
19:19Could they possibly elevate Purdy to number two?
19:21But Jones is there.
19:22The backup, Martinez.
19:24And here we have the kickoff now by Eddie Pinheiro.
19:29And the Giants will get it for a second time.
19:33Jalen Hyatt will take it out of the end zone.
19:35The third-year receiver out of Tennessee.
19:37And crashes his way up near the 32 on a return male of 33.
19:45Well, we have an update from Cam Scadaboo,
19:47who is already back in the building this week,
19:48wheeling around on his scooter.
19:50He told us,
19:50I'm extremely appreciative of the unwavering support I've received.
19:54Recovery is going well.
19:55I'm excited to attack this rehab with everything I have.
19:58I'm told his surgery was a success on the fibula fracture and dislocated ankle.
20:02And as Jackson Dart told us,
20:03given how gruesome the injury looked, that is a major blessing, guys.
20:06It is indeed.
20:07He had the surgery in Philadelphia that night.
20:11Outside they go.
20:12First and ten.
20:13Robinson Corral got away.
20:16And then bangs his way.
20:17And there was an avalanche of defenders.
20:21Not a lot of breathing space.
20:23Lenore was there.
20:24They lose two on the play.
20:26Well, and it's important.
20:28You talked about Cam Scadaboo getting that surgery right away in Philadelphia.
20:31When you have a dislocated ankle like that,
20:33just to keep that circulation going,
20:36as you see the rally there of 49ers defenders,
20:38not allowing that to go anywhere.
20:40Second down and 12.
20:43Tyrone Tracy outside.
20:45And one-on-one with the winners,
20:47who will not let him go.
20:49Redwell knocked down.
20:51Gain of two as we make our first trip to our CBS studios.
20:55Here is Adam Schein.
20:56Kevin, Trent, we have another Daniel Jones touchdown.
21:01Fifth rushing touchdown for the former Giant this year.
21:04Trent Green, by the way, six rushing touchdowns in his career.
21:08Seven-nothing Colts.
21:09Back to you.
21:10Yeah, but they all meant something.
21:11I'll tell you that.
21:12They're all important.
21:15Here's a third and ten.
21:17The Tyrone Tracy's still at the back.
21:19He's a running back out of Purdue.
21:23Ray Ray McLeod, bottom of his screen there,
21:25just picked him up this week.
21:26Dart.
21:28And he's got his receiver.
21:29That is Slayton.
21:30And drilled on the play by Upton Stout.
21:33It's a game of seven on third and ten.
21:36And it's fourth down.
21:37And the punting unit will take the field for the Giants.
21:40Defense holding for San Francisco.
21:42Well, normally the third downs is when things get mixed up
21:45as far as Robert Sala and how he likes to attack.
21:47And that time they just go to a simple zone
21:49and come up and make the tackle short of the first down.
21:57Jamie Gillen will punt the ball.
22:00And deep back is Sky Moore.
22:03Looking into that bright New Jersey sun.
22:05Bouncing, kicking.
22:08And they cannot save it.
22:09It'll be a touchback to the 20.
22:1060-yard punt.
22:15Touchdown passes both ways by these young quarterbacks,
22:18Matt Jones and Jackson Dart.
22:20The defense of the Niners, though, stiffening on that last possession.
22:24The NFL on CBS is sponsored by State Farm.
22:34Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.
22:37And by ColoGuard.
22:39See more information at ColoGuard.com.
22:42That picture right there tells you what kind of day it is.
22:49You can always count on Sundays with the NFL on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
22:53So Ben Bartsch is the normal left guard.
22:57He's on IR.
22:58He may come back in the next couple days.
23:00Spencer Burford is in there right now.
23:02They have been starting.
23:03Connor Colby.
23:04Third different left guard they've started.
23:06It's a first and 10 for Jones.
23:08It's Juszczyk.
23:09And Moussao will grab him from behind and bring him down.
23:13First down catch and run on the play.
23:16It was 12 yards and they're out to the 32.
23:20Watch Juszczyk.
23:20He's going to slide over here.
23:22He's going to chip and then he's going to release.
23:24Let the rusher come in upfield.
23:26Just on a little screen.
23:28Watch.
23:28He goes up, makes contact, slips off of him.
23:30Williams gets up on the next level.
23:33Good first down call.
23:34San Francisco at that long drive the first time they had it.
23:40McCaffrey in there.
23:41A couple tied ends.
23:42First and 10.
23:43They got a block in there on Burns.
23:44That opened the door.
23:45And look at him push the pile.
23:48Out to the 44-yard line.
23:50That is Christian McCaffrey.
23:52It's a 12-yard gain.
23:54Another first down for San Francisco.
23:55Kevin, let's go back to the first drive.
23:57The opening drive.
23:58McCaffrey with the catch out in the left flat.
24:00Then the good block to his left side.
24:02He's able to get up and get to that next level.
24:04And then the touchdown pass.
24:05Sneaking out of the backfield.
24:07Up in the left flat once again.
24:08Somebody jumped right there.
24:13False start.
24:15Offense number 68.
24:17Five-yard penalty.
24:19First down.
24:19Stouter every game at the right.
24:21Tackle Colton McKivitts will pick that up.
24:25San Francisco Trent has had 21 drives this season,
24:29including earlier today, of 10 players or more.
24:32That is tied for the most in the NFL.
24:34They're able to combine a nice balance, run and pass.
24:37Well, and the amazing thing is what they've been able to do with all the injuries they've had.
24:40You mentioned the offensive line injuries, the receiver injuries.
24:44McCaffrey with a huge check block.
24:47And then Okereke brings him down.
24:4947.
24:50Gain of eight on the play.
24:52McCaffrey is racking him up.
24:53Seven carries and 39 yards already.
24:56This is the worst run defense, by the way, in the NFL of the Giants.
25:03Well, and talking to Shane Bowen, the defensive coordinator,
25:06he knew coming into today, because the 49ers only had 10 rushing attempts a week ago,
25:11he felt like because of what has been shown on tape and the fact that they didn't run last week,
25:15he was anticipating a lot of run today.
25:17There's the pitch out.
25:18Brian Robinson, he's checked out there to block, and he finds a hole.
25:22And then brought down Muisau.
25:24And Nubin, on the stop, down to the 37-yard line.
25:29Robinson, the former commander, takes it for 15, running well.
25:34Another first down.
25:34And the end of the first quarter here in the Meadowlands.
25:39Touchdown passes both ways.
25:41Matt Jones, five yards to McCaffrey.
25:44And Dart, a touchdown pass of 15 to the tight end Johnson.
25:487-7 at the end of one on CBS.
25:54Back in age-run for tomorrow on CBS Monday,
25:57your favorite team of FBI agents is back.
26:00With high-stakes action, packed cases for you.
26:03Don't miss an all-new episode of FBI tomorrow, 9, 8 central, on CBS.
26:11We start the second quarter.
26:13Good-looking drive again by San Francisco,
26:15averaging over seven yards on the ground
26:17against the worst defense in stopping the ground game.
26:22A pass downfield, caught here.
26:24Twirling grab made.
26:26Kendrick Bourne, who was a teammate with Matt Jones at New England.
26:3020-yard strike outside the 15, first and 10.
26:34Well, we thought coming into this game because of the injuries
26:37that the Giants would be playing more zone defense.
26:40They play a lot of man-to-man, actually the most man-to-man
26:42in the NFL coming into this game.
26:44But because of the injuries, we'll see more zone today.
26:47McCaffrey got the pitch.
26:49A block by Farrell and nothing there
26:51with a tackle made by rookie Darius Alexander.
26:54They lose a yard, and it's back to about the 17.
26:58Well, we mentioned the injuries for both teams.
27:00Let's talk about New York defensively,
27:03and Shane Bowen is dealing with a lot of moving parts.
27:05Well, and this is just the secondary right here.
27:08You see the starters, Howland, Debo, and Flott, all out,
27:11and Art Green went on injured reserve.
27:14So very depleted in the back end of that defense.
27:16Jones is 8 of 8, second down 11,
27:24and now 9-9, and Kittle in traffic got it,
27:27and he was brought down by O'Karakay down inside the 11.
27:31It's a pickup of 7, and it's 3rd and 4.
27:34Well, Thibodeau coming off the edge that time
27:36got loose from McKibbin's
27:37and was pressuring Jones,
27:39who was able to just get rid of that ball
27:41right before taking a hit.
27:50This San Francisco offense still without Brandon Ayuk
27:53on the PUP.
27:57ACL last year.
27:58Pierce Saul's out.
28:00Having to piece together various players,
28:03and they're 5-3 with it.
28:053rd down 4.
28:06Jones right on the screws.
28:08Jawan Jennings, touchdown.
28:14Well, you can tell by the press coverage
28:16they were going to get man-to-man,
28:18and they had the perfect call,
28:20a double move on the outside.
28:26Watch the release to the inside,
28:28then stop and exit back out.
28:30Just a return route.
28:31And in man coverage,
28:33you get Black lean in one direction.
28:36Easy completion,
28:37and good effort getting to that front pylon.
28:39Jennings who missed camp because of a calf
28:41and contract issues.
28:43Second touchdown reception of the season.
28:46Pinero will tack on one more.
28:4814-7.
28:49San Francisco with two drives
28:52and two touchdown passes.
28:53This one to Jawan Jennings.
28:55He has been playing with broken ribs,
28:58five of them,
28:59an ankle sprain,
29:00and a shoulder injury,
29:01but he catches right there,
29:03and he can celebrate just as well.
29:04Tell me when to go.
29:05Tell me when to go.
29:09Matt Jones playing with a bruised knee today.
29:11Got that last week at Houston,
29:12but he's thrown two touchdown passes,
29:1410 for the year.
29:16But when you look at how he has spread
29:18those touchdown passes,
29:19he and Purdy out,
29:20it's only the second by a wide receiver.
29:22Well, and that's what's amazing.
29:24When you look at that,
29:24the receiver's only two touchdowns on the season,
29:27and the fact that the 49ers coming into this game
29:30are second in the NFL in passing yards,
29:32most of it has been to the running backs
29:33and the tight ends.
29:34This is Osheski,
29:35who will find some running room
29:37and finally get nailed on the play,
29:39Mel, by Luke Farrell on a 23-yard return.
29:42Well, Kev, on Tuesday,
29:43Giants rookies led by Jackson Dart
29:45visited patients at a children's hospital
29:47in nearby Hackensack, New Jersey.
29:49The rooks dressed up in their favorite costumes
29:51to bring trick-or-treating and joy to the kids,
29:54their families,
29:54and the staff at the hospital.
29:58Well, we talked to Brian Dable,
29:59Mel, and trying to butt.
30:01Jackson Dart, he says,
30:03the energy is on this team in the building
30:06because of Dart and what he has presented.
30:10Singletary is the back.
30:11It's first and ten to the year.
30:14And it's caught on the play.
30:15Robinson twirling his way.
30:17Brought down Mel by Lenore.
30:19Yeah, and Kev, Jackson told us
30:21after back-to-back tough weeks on the field,
30:23dressing up as Superman
30:24and visiting those children
30:25just brightened them up.
30:26He said, when you're able to be around those kids
30:28and listen to their perspectives
30:29while they still have a smile on their face,
30:31it grounds you.
30:32And it was a great reminder
30:32that we have struggles,
30:33but it's nothing compared to
30:34what those kids are going through.
30:36And Mel, he did that at Ole Miss, too, didn't he?
30:38He sure did.
30:39He's made a habit of it.
30:40Yeah, here's Singletary.
30:41Mel, thank you so much.
30:42Tackle made by Kalia Davis.
30:44And it will be second down.
30:48Make it first down and ten.
30:54And the gain out to the 46.
30:56Well, Darts has been an impressive young man
30:58on and off the field,
30:59and that's why Brian Dable is so high
31:01on the fact that why they wanted to move up
31:04in the first round and get him
31:05and just the natural leader.
31:09There goes Ray Ray McLeod in motion.
31:11Schmitz with the snap.
31:14First and ten, Dart.
31:15And here they come,
31:16and there he goes.
31:17And Singletary belted from behind by Davis
31:21and to the San Francisco 48
31:23with a gain of six through the air.
31:25Well, they're trying to get over the top.
31:26They had the double receiver.
31:27They had one in the middle of the field
31:29and one going up McLeod
31:30was the one that was going in motion.
31:32They tried getting over the top,
31:34and good decision here by Dart
31:36not forcing it into coverage downfield
31:38and checking it down
31:39for a positive gain on first down.
31:41Kyle Shanahan said he was very impressed
31:43by the way he goes through his progression.
31:45Singletary, second down and four,
31:47wrestled down by Jair Brown
31:49and a minimal gain of about a yard.
31:52And we know that Dable has told us, too,
31:54he says he's always keeping his eyes downfield.
31:57A lot of young quarterbacks don't do that.
31:59Well, and that was the thing
32:00that Shanahan pointed out.
32:01He said, listen, you know,
32:03you watch him on tape,
32:04and a lot of times young guys
32:05will go to that first receiver
32:06and then their eyes will go down
32:07or if the pocket collapses,
32:08those kinds of things.
32:09He said, but he just keeps his eyes downfield,
32:11stays poised in the pocket
32:12and works through his progression.
32:14That's what he's most impressed with.
32:16Third down and four here
32:18with Singletary, the band.
32:19No three, no!
32:20No!
32:21No!
32:21No!
32:22No!
32:22No!
32:23No!
32:23No!
32:24No!
32:24No!
32:25No!
32:25No!
32:26No!
32:26No!
32:27No!
32:28No!
32:29No!
32:30No!
32:31No!
32:32No!
32:33No!
32:34No!
32:35No!
32:36No!
32:37Five-yard penalty!
32:38Third down.
32:39That is on John Michael Schmitz,
32:41the center.
32:47That little flex right there
32:49is what pulled the 49ers offside
32:53and was the five-yard penalty.
32:56So now it is third down and eight.
32:59They need the Niner, 44.
33:01More movement.
33:04Wow.
33:07Full start.
33:09Offense number 71.
33:11Five-yard penalty.
33:13And he's the new starting right tackle today, Marcus Bowe,
33:17with the injury to Jermaine Illuminor.
33:20He's got a pec injury.
33:30Bowe is a rookie.
33:31Bowe has his dunk, third and 13.
33:44They rush forward, dark to the air.
33:48Underneath, Johnson stiff-arming into Bethune, who would not let go.
33:53And the 49er defense holds him at the 49 of New York.
33:58It's a seven-yard pickup.
34:00Nice play by Bethune around his ankle with the initial hit,
34:04and he would not let him go.
34:05It's fourth down.
34:07Bethune around the ankle in winter.
34:08It's cleaning things up up top.
34:09And keeping that ball right at midfield is, with those two penalties,
34:16Giants really have no decision here but to punt at fourth and six.
34:19Jamie Gillen will be punting.
34:21He's been with the Giants since 2022.
34:23Sky Moore is bad for San Francisco.
34:26Basically a winless day.
34:31Fair caught, 18-yard line, hanging a 4-8.
34:33They were down there, 31-yard punt.
34:37Dillon with the punt.
34:39Here comes Matt Jones with two touchdown passes early in the Meadowlands on CBS.
34:44The NFL on CBS is sponsored by AT&T.
34:52Connecting changes everything.
34:55The Home Depot.
34:58How doers get more done.
35:00And by Taco Bell.
35:11Gilligan's Island crew, families, and members of our crew celebrating Halloween.
35:18I start for Matt Jones.
35:20He is 10-10 through the air with two touchdowns.
35:22Well, earlier this season, you and I had a game where there was only 10 incompletions the entire game.
35:27And right now, as you said, Mack is 10-10 and Dart is 9-10.
35:31So, they're challenging that game from previous.
35:34What was that?
35:35Mayfield and Sam Darnold.
35:37First and 10.
35:38It's Kittle.
35:40Stiff-ironing his way into Abdul-Carter and finding a first down catch and run.
35:44Out to the 29.
35:46Pickup of 11.
35:47Well, Mack Jones is making quick decisions, accurate throws.
35:53That one's a layup.
35:53There's nobody out there on McCaffrey for the first touchdown.
35:57And here, touchdown number two.
36:03Mack Jones, who is coached in high school in Florida, was the winningest high school coach in high school football history in that state.
36:11Here comes McCaffrey and brought down by Thibodeau.
36:14Out to the 31.
36:15Then he goes to Alabama as a freshman.
36:19His coach is Brian Dable in Tuscaloosa.
36:23Yeah, how about that?
36:25You know, you look at the coaching he's gotten throughout his career.
36:28And I know his time in New England started off pretty hot that rookie year and then fell off the next couple of seasons.
36:34But he's found a good place here and fits really well into what Kyle Shanahan's trying to get done with the offense.
36:40Next statement, of course, was his coach at Alabama.
36:42He played him back at Tua and Hurts until he got his chance.
36:45Second and eight.
36:46Right on the money again.
36:48It's Jennings by midfield and brought down by Okereke with a terrific throw on second and eight, picking up 20.
36:57And Matt Jones has gone 12 of 12 to start the game.
37:01Well, this is just a play fake to hold those linebackers underneath.
37:05And then the accurate throw.
37:07Oh, that's a difficult catch looking back into the sun, able to come up with the ball right around midfield.
37:14And, of course, he had Bill Belichick in New England.
37:16He said, I learned more about defense than I ever thought I wanted to know.
37:19But it has helped me to this day.
37:21McCaffrey on first and 10.
37:22Davidson got wrapped up as he was taking it in.
37:25Davidson will make the grab and Maligane it, too.
37:28Yeah, and Matt Jones told us he would join Brian Dable in his offense late at night in Tuscaloosa.
37:32And he'd quit Mack on the offense to see if he could learn it because he was so young.
37:35He said, if I could learn it, Jalen and Tua could learn it.
37:38And he would put Mack on the whiteboard and have him draw plays that really challenged his brain as a freshman.
37:42He said, by the way, Dable really loves to rip rap music in his office, guys.
37:46Which I never would have guessed.
37:48I've got to be honest.
37:50It's second down and eight.
37:52Eight to McCaffrey, Kittle with a block, and Jones will have to scramble here and falls ahead.
37:58And Belton got him at the 46 on a gain of a yard.
38:03Well, when talking to Shanahan, I said, what's the big difference?
38:07You know, because you've got Brock Purdy, who's been incredibly efficient, obviously, which rewarded with the big contract.
38:13I said, what's the main difference?
38:14He said, the main difference is legs.
38:16Purdy uses his legs a lot more and runs a lot more than what, than what Mack Jones does.
38:21That time, able to avoid the sack and get it back near the line of scrimmage.
38:28Third down and seven.
38:35Kittle again, a block.
38:37And outside they go, McCaffrey.
38:39Redwell on the play by Demetrius Flanagan Fowles, a former San Francisco player.
38:44It is a gain at two, making it fourth and five with the ball at the 43-yard line of the Giants.
38:52And they'll bring out the punting team.
38:54Well, this is just that grayer.
38:59A lot of coaches like to go for it in this area because you could try a field goal, which would end up being 62 yards.
39:05Or what the 49ers are doing here is they're trying to punt it down inside the 10.
39:10Thomas Morstead, a 17-year veteran, will try to place this well with Osheski getting a fair catch at the seven-yard line.
39:2337-yard, well-placed punt.
39:27Morstead's happy.
39:29Two touchdown passes by San Francisco's Matt Jones, 14-7.
39:38By capacity, MetLife Stadium, the biggest in the NFL.
39:41You know who number two is?
39:44By capacity?
39:45By capacity.
39:46Let's go Houston.
39:47Lambeau Field in Green Bay after the punt.
39:50By San Francisco.
39:51I don't mean to put you on the spot.
39:52I'm sorry.
39:53No, I'm trying to think.
39:55That surprised me.
39:56I didn't know Lambeau had that big a capacity.
39:58Single Terry on first and 10.
40:00We'll take it right there.
40:01So the Giants, Trent, two straight punts after scoring on their first drive.
40:08And then we just saw San Francisco punch.
40:10Yeah, I thought that was, you know, at first I'm like, gosh, this is kind of the gray area of the field where sometimes you go for it on fourth down.
40:16But I was sitting here thinking at the timeout, at the commercial break, I was like, okay, punt them down in there.
40:20You've stopped them the last couple times.
40:22Get the ball back.
40:22You get the ball in the second half.
40:23You can get that double dip that so many coaches like scoring at the end of the half and then the second half.
40:30Dart, 9 of 10.
40:31Second down, 7.
40:32Oh, from behind.
40:34Didn't see him coming.
40:35Hit on the play by Furrell.
40:37Cleland Furrell, last year in Washington, year before a starter with San Francisco, signed this week.
