00:30I think it actually completely transforms that space.
00:39Living in the basement, it's been really hard.
00:42Getting it finally finished and looking amazing is going to be superb.
00:48It's really important that Jazz and I try and grab little windows of time together when we can.
00:54My dad would probably flip his lid if he saw this.
00:58He's very much a perfectionist.
01:02Don't turn too early.
01:09It's looking amazing, isn't it?
01:11Good.
01:11Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that something like this would be a reality.
01:16Down on the Costa del Sol.
01:33The dust.
01:34Jazzman and John's housewarming party is looming.
01:37Now just a matter of weeks away, there's still loads to do.
01:46Lots going on all over the house, inside and outside.
01:51It feels like it's kind of exploded.
01:59All of the work is happening at once.
02:03Oops.
02:04Trying to break the new work time.
02:06With Dominic and his team deep into renovation upstairs, the family have been living in the basement, which has given Jasmine the impetus to prioritise finishing this space.
02:17We're so close to being finished.
02:21So close.
02:22I'm sure we could finish everything that needs to be done down here in no time if it was on the top of the priorities.
02:33But obviously there are so many other things going on.
02:35A lot of the project managing has fallen to me in the end because Dominic is just so busy with everything else and with the build and liaising with all the different trades.
02:50And I do feel like I'm in above my head because I don't know what I'm doing.
02:58I don't know what comes first and what I need to do before I can do that or why.
03:02And so, yeah, that's probably not helping things move forward quickly.
03:11John is busy filming a well-loved British property series and the school holidays have started.
03:17Keen to avoid the kids spending it on a building site, Jasmine has found a local solution.
03:23I found a lovely summer camp for them.
03:26It's about five minutes away and they can go there.
03:30It's all about nature.
03:32They can spend time with other kids and it's from 10 till five, Monday to Friday.
03:37So that gives me a good chunk of time during the day when I can be getting on with all of this stuff and they don't have to be living on a building site all day.
03:44I feel like I'm in the epicenter of this most ridiculous chaos that's going on and it's all pressure from all sides.
04:00And I feel like at any moment it's all going to cave in.
04:03Despite all the stress and strains, Jasmine is getting stuck in, eager to maintain momentum, starting with John's media wall.
04:19So this is the Lime Wash.
04:23I must say I really like the way it looks, that kind of rustic feel.
04:28The only thing is I'm not so sure about the texture of it.
04:32You know, it feels quite rough.
04:35I'm quite a tactile person.
04:36I like things that feel nice to the touch.
04:39I hope I've done it right.
04:42Maybe I need to give it a little sand to make it smoother, but that might just ruin it.
04:46If I go over it too many times, then you lose the rustic Lime Wash effect.
04:52So, believe me, I'm not an expert.
04:55My dad would probably flip his lid if he saw this, you know, painting, because he's very much a perfectionist and he would not like this.
05:05You can see all the brush strokes and you can see a little bit of the white paint underneath coming through.
05:11But, you know, that is how it's supposed to look.
05:13I think it looks good.
05:17Now I look at it from a distance, it looks better.
05:20But the idea of this bit was that it would look kind of industrial, a bit like, you know, bare concrete.
05:29And I think that it definitely achieves that effect.
05:33So, hopefully, John will like it as well.
05:38Elsewhere in the basement...
05:40Oh, sorry, love.
05:41We're all looking for something.
05:44I know.
05:45The large stone effect wall tiles are already up in the bathroom, so the floor tiles are next for brick and tile laying specialist Matthew.
05:54Is that a two mil?
05:55That's a two mil.
05:56Yeah, it's fine.
05:57Yeah?
05:58I mean, I think so.
05:59Are you happy with that?
06:00Yeah, yeah.
06:01I think it's fine.
06:02Yeah, that's good.
06:03I just want to see how it works for this show.
06:05Yeah, exactly.
06:06So, you...
06:06Yeah, exactly.
06:07A crappy cut on this.
06:08Yeah, good idea.
06:09I was hoping that you were going to do that.
06:12Obviously, they'll be staggered differently.
06:14Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:14That way.
06:15I just want to see which way.
06:17Which way is now I understand.
06:18Once the tiling is done, the suite will be installed, and then Jasmine can add her finishing touches.
06:26That's the mirror.
06:27Okay, check the mirror.
06:28Yeah, it needs to be connected.
06:29It's one of those heated ones.
06:32Ah, right, so it doesn't seem that.
06:34That's better, isn't it?
06:35Yeah.
06:36500, roughly.
06:39I mean, you see?
06:40The hand basin about there.
06:41Yeah, you're talking there, didn't you?
06:52A little bit.
06:52I'd put it a touch higher, because not that high, though.
06:55Just half.
06:56There?
06:56Split the difference.
06:58Somewhere about there.
06:59Okay.
06:59Back over in the main basement room, Quinn and Dominic are getting ready to work on one of John's more techie interior design ideas.
07:17When we went to visit this inspirational villa, they had acoustic panelling in their basement and in the gym area as well, and it looked great.
07:27John has ordered nine panels.
07:30That, complete with the nine LED lighting strips, cost a grand total of £1,600.
07:38This panelling, we've got to cut it exactly, and then the LED slides in it.
07:45The problem is, John's not here at the moment, is he?
07:48So, his description of what he wants, so we're not quite sure at the moment, but we're doing what we can.
07:55What are you going to do, one of the squares?
07:56Yeah.
07:57The squares are very, watch.
07:58Look at that, Quinn.
07:59What's that?
08:00The second you cut through it, they're all on the move.
08:02Yeah, it's got a staple on the way.
08:03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:04I knew that was going to happen, look.
08:06Oh, yeah, that's fine.
08:06So, that might work.
08:09As in, just cut down there.
08:11Have you got a shot of Stanley?
08:12Yeah, I do, actually.
08:13Got it?
08:14Get hold of it.
08:19All right, yeah, mate.
08:20Cutting the panels to shape and size is a delicate process, and with no extra panels for mistakes or breakages, Dominic and Quinn can't afford any mishaps.
08:33Great.
08:37It's really a bit great.
08:39It's like it was made to measure.
08:41Exactly.
08:43Beautiful.
08:44Nice.
08:45Nice.
08:47Yeah, we'll have a chat with John, because they don't go to the ground.
08:50They've got to be staggered.
08:52They come to the top, but they don't go to the ground.
08:55What?
08:55The LEDs.
08:56I think that's what...
08:57The LED strips.
08:58John said he wants them to be more random and sporadic.
09:00Oh, I'm with you.
09:00The LEDs.
09:01I thought you meant that, because I don't know they're going to be feathered off at the top.
09:05Yeah, but they don't hit the ground there, so...
09:08Yeah, as long as they're staggered and they look random, I think I'll be fine.
09:12I think sometimes the best way is just not overthinking it and just kind of going wherever it goes, isn't it?
09:17But we are on the case of it.
09:19Let's do it, then.
09:20Let's do that.
09:22They've got to come downwards.
09:25John's plan for staggered LED lighting in the panels involves cutting the two-and-a-half-metre strips of LED lights,
09:32but there is only just enough.
09:37Well...
09:38You don't know if it works, yet?
09:39I don't know if it works or not, no.
09:40Each one can only be cut once and they can't be soldered back together,
09:46so there is no margin for error.
09:51There you go.
09:52Oh, yeah.
09:53There you go.
09:54It's brilliant, isn't it?
09:54Turn it off for a sec.
09:57These wires are very small.
10:00Really?
10:01They do.
10:02Yeah, amazing.
10:04It's fantastic.
10:05Yeah, it's very good, isn't it?
10:06It just disappears when it goes off.
10:10Yeah, look.
10:11Lovely.
10:12That's really good.
10:12With my eyesight, I can't even see it when it's off.
10:18Although progress is being made, between ferrying the kids around, doing her own work,
10:24and managing this complicated renovation to a deadline, for Jasmine, the strain is starting to take its toll.
10:31It's too much for one person to cope with.
10:38You know, I used to think, I used to think that I was indestructible,
10:45and I used to think I can cope with anything that's thrown at me.
10:50And I don't know what it is.
10:55I don't know if I've just got more on than ever before, or if it's because I'm getting old.
11:01But it's getting hard to cope.
11:04Down in Estepona...
11:21Tubos, tubos or tubas?
11:24Tubos, I think.
11:26Jasmine is managing the build all on her own.
11:29So we've still got Phase 2 going on of the renovation,
11:35and we're deeply into Phase 3 as well.
11:39No hay luces dentro de las aracenas en este lado.
11:43Solo aquí y aquí.
11:44Sí, porque son de cristal.
11:47Vale, perfecto.
11:48OK.
11:49And nothing's finished.
11:51I'm trying to chase different people, different products, buying things, finding out things are wrong.
11:57It is a real juggle.
12:00Down in the basement, the doorway between the main room and the gym is being plastered.
12:07Meanwhile, upstairs, a thin layer of screed, a mixture of fine sand and cement,
12:13is spread across the kitchen floor.
12:15It will create a level surface to lay the marble tiles that have been picked to match with those already in the living room.
12:22Once dry, Matthew can lay the new marble floor.
12:27They're all different thicknesses, sometimes different widths, different lengths.
12:38You've got to be...
12:39Because it's such a natural material, they're very random.
12:44This marble has been specially selected to easily blend with the flooring that's already in the living room.
12:50Look.
12:53That's how random they are, the tiles.
12:57These are okay laying.
12:59I mean, you can get away with a bit with these.
13:02Because after, once this is all done, and you fill the joints in with a really high-Newton cement slurry,
13:11and then once it's all grinded out, it'll look flat anyway.
13:17So if you're a little bit up, a little bit down, once it's all, yeah, it'll look all natural and naturally level-like.
13:25Whilst the lead tile and Matt carries on laying the kitchen floor, back down in the basement,
13:33Dominic and Quinn are carrying on with the installation of the acoustic panelling with its disappearing LED strips.
13:40This is exciting.
13:42I suppose the only one thing is that those two finish at the same height.
13:46If we want it to be perfectly random, we could squidge it somewhere slightly different.
13:52Maybe that one can go to sort of there.
13:56Is that possible?
13:57If you've got a chance, you can do it now, Quinn.
14:00Because once the glue gets...
14:03Quinn, pull it by the cable, not by the...
14:09That's so gentle.
14:12That's got a bit of depth on it now.
14:16Yeah, that looks a bit better.
14:18Let me stand back and look at it.
14:21Looks good.
14:22Let me take a quick little picture for John.
14:24Yeah, to do it again, Dad.
14:25Sorry, Dominic.
14:26Just one quick picture for John.
14:28He's the only one that counts.
14:29Exactly.
14:31We've already installed the two, as you can see on the wall there, and the LEDs are working.
14:37But now we've got the difficult bit, we've got to put them on the ceiling.
14:40So, there's two more whole panels to go up, and then the difficult two that need cutting and making into a star sort of fingered shape at the end.
14:53So, yeah, time-consuming.
14:57It's not super difficult, but at over 200 euros a panel, you've got to be very careful what you do.
15:04While John's panelling project progresses, it's time for Jasmine to put her own mark on the basement level by kitting out the gym.
15:15So, she's heading along the coast to a fitness equipment warehouse to scope out the options.
15:20Keeping fit has always been something that's part of my life and that's really important.
15:27And I spent 10 years working in health and fitness as an instructor, aerobics teacher, personal trainer, before I worked in television.
15:37So, having a home gym is something I've never had the luxury of being able to do before, because I've never had that sort of space available.
15:48Estoy buscando algunas máquinas y pesas para un pequeño gimnasio en casa.
15:56Muy bien. Nosotros tenemos un lema que es try before you buy.
16:02I'm thinking, I don't know, two or three cardio machines that we can use and some weights, maybe a few other accessories like bands or a ball or something like that.
16:14También tenemos, estas son las dumbbells, las hexagonal dumbbells, que son las que más vendemos.
16:19Cuidado que pesa.
16:22Es bastante, demasiado para mí.
16:24I really want a punch bag as well.
16:28I used to love boxing, so that's one thing I'd quite like to do again.
16:33It's good for taking out all my anger.
16:36Mi marido, hace cinco meses, rompió su pierna jugando padel.
16:45Entonces, le podríamos recomendar la elíptica.
16:51Nice. Nice and smooth.
16:53Tienes ventilador también.
16:56Ah, ventilador.
16:56En las máquinas es muy importante también.
16:59¿Puedo?
17:00¿Ves?
17:01Para refrescarlo.
17:02Mejor.
17:07¿Y eso tiene las brazos también?
17:10Esa es una air bike que hace un entrenamiento completo.
17:15Este es el rowing machine, el remo.
17:19La agarras así.
17:20Vale.
17:20Aquí tienes la resistencia.
17:24Y la máquina empieza sola.
17:25Está bien, está bien, está bien, está bien así.
17:39Los hombros, los brazos, la espalda.
17:44Tienes que tener la espalda activa.
17:45Sí.
17:47Sí, al final creo que la bicicleta, aire.
17:52De aire, air bike.
17:53Me gusta y el remo.
17:57The rowing machine.
17:58Muy bien.
17:58Y una elíptica.
17:59Y una elíptica, perfecto.
18:01Una elíptica y las pesas.
18:03Vale.
18:03Tienes que tener una gymnasia.
18:06Es, como, beyond luxury.
18:09I came from a low-income family.
18:12You know, it's so aspirational.
18:14And it's always kind of been in the back of my mind
18:16that one day, maybe,
18:18but I never really thought it would become a reality.
18:21So I think, yeah, it's an absolute luxury
18:23and I'm very, very lucky to have it.
18:27With the equipment sourced,
18:29Jasmine can get out of her gym gear
18:31to check on the progress of another luxury item.
18:33The marble flooring.
18:36Mmm.
18:40Oh, wow.
18:42Amazing how quickly this floor goes down.
18:46I think it's going to match quite nicely
18:47with the original marble once it's all polished up.
18:51I just hope that we can get it finished.
18:53Well, we have to get it finished
18:54because otherwise the kitchen won't be able to be fitted.
18:58Ah.
19:01It's nice to see the progress.
19:02Oh!
19:07The floor is clean.
19:10The dust.
19:11Ah, the plaster.
19:13Finally, the plaster's done there.
19:17Living in the basement is fine,
19:20but if only it had been completed before we moved down there,
19:26it would be so much easier and so much more relaxing.
19:29It's fine.
19:30We've got everything we need,
19:31but basically it feels a bit like camping.
19:35This temporary living means that mealtimes are often improvised.
19:40How many pickles do you need for all of us?
19:43Ten.
19:44Yeah.
19:44Ten?
19:45Here.
19:46Ten?
19:46Only ten?
19:47Twenty.
19:47Get as many as you need.
19:50I'll do the avocado.
19:51You do the pickles.
19:51We have been coping okay with making meals down in the basement.
19:58We have wraps quite often.
20:02Mmm.
20:03This is my favourite non-cooking dinner.
20:08Making a wrap is quite nice
20:10because the kids can just choose their own toppings
20:13and they can put it in themselves
20:14and everyone can get involved.
20:16So, it's just a really easy meal.
20:19Can you wrap mine?
20:20I'll show you how to do it.
20:23Ready?
20:25Top and bottom.
20:27So, it's good.
20:28It's fine.
20:29You know, I won't be doing any sort of cordon bleu
20:33or fancy cooking down there in the basement.
20:38So, what do you two think of this little arrangement living down here?
20:43It's a bit boring.
20:44It's basically the same as being upstairs
20:48but one big room
20:49and more working.
20:53How about you, Joy?
20:55It's actually really annoying the fact that we have
20:57A, no working bathrooms down here
21:00and B, no ovens
21:03so we can't have, like, any nice cooked dinners or anything.
21:08Also, there's, like, nowhere to charge our computers still.
21:11Oh.
21:12Oh, glad to see you two have got your priorities right.
21:15LAUGHTER
21:16But at least we've got somewhere to be.
21:23I say that, but we haven't really
21:24because it's still full of dust
21:25and full of building work
21:27and builders there all the time
21:28and it's still not finished.
21:30But we can make...
21:33We're making do.
21:35It's fine.
21:35On the Costa del Sol,
21:51Jasmine and the build team
21:52are wrapping up the renovation of the basement.
21:54John's media wall is in the final throes.
22:04It's been limewashed by Jasmine
22:06and the acoustic panelling
22:07has started going into the alcoves.
22:10The next step
22:11is to install a key element,
22:13the television.
22:15Are you winning there?
22:16Oh, yeah.
22:18I'm winning the wall.
22:19So, is the plan to just do the panelling,
22:23leave a blank square in the middle behind the TV?
22:25Yeah.
22:27That's good.
22:28And the same distance between each side.
22:30Oh, you can just see it can move sideways.
22:32It can move everywhere.
22:34So, it can move laterally.
22:35Oh, yeah, I see, I see, I see.
22:36All right, that's a good bracket, isn't it?
22:38With the TV in place,
22:42time to finish off the acoustic panelling.
22:44It's been a tricky task for Dominic and Quinn.
22:48There it is.
22:50You want to come this in, Quinn?
22:53The last couple of lengths
22:55are being glued and screwed.
22:57I haven't even made my mind up where it's going yet.
23:05This is white when I come to work.
23:08Beautiful.
23:12Plug that in and check it.
23:14In case it don't work out the box.
23:18Cool.
23:21Before the final LED strips are slotted into place.
23:30Oh, my arms.
23:33I really like the look of them.
23:35I can't say I would have picked them out to have,
23:39but now I see them up,
23:40they do look very effective.
23:44John made a good choice.
23:45The bathroom, gym, and main basement room
23:54are getting super close to completion.
23:57Well, we'll get that screen, put it in.
24:00Quick cutting round the top of here.
24:02Fit that.
24:03This bathroom is done.
24:04And a rather large delivery arriving out front
24:09is about to have a big impact
24:10on one of those spaces.
24:15Oh, it's huge.
24:19That is...
24:21I think it's going to touch the floor.
24:23Oh, it's going to be too tall.
24:29Yes.
24:35Is it going to fit?
24:37No.
24:38It's...
24:39It's too big.
24:40It's too big.
24:41It's touching the floor.
24:44Oh, dear.
24:45I have to swap pitch.
24:49Yeah.
24:51The...
24:52Oh, shame.
25:00As the bulky gym kit makes its way
25:02into the basement
25:03through the double doors at the back,
25:05rubber flooring is laid over
25:06the original terracotta floor tiles
25:09in preparation.
25:11Very, very exciting delivery today.
25:15We've had all the gym equipment arrive,
25:18which is just...
25:20I don't know...
25:21It's kind of blowing my mind
25:23that we're getting a punch bag as well,
25:25which I think will be one of the things
25:27I use the most.
25:29When I get annoyed.
25:31Or frustrated.
25:32Y la próxima vez que nos vemos,
25:35voy...
25:36Vas a estar más fuerte.
25:37Más fuerte.
25:38Bueno, tú ya estás fuerte, ¿eh?
25:39Fuerte.
25:39Tú ya...
25:40No.
25:42No.
25:43Pero después.
25:44Bueno.
25:44Muchas gracias.
25:47Looking at that gym,
25:48I'm thinking,
25:49now I've got no excuse.
25:50I really do have to use it.
25:59The next morning,
26:01John is back
26:01and Jasmine can't wait
26:03to show him the progress.
26:04Initially, it didn't really feel like
26:10a space that you'd ever want to go into.
26:13What do you think, Albs?
26:17Albie, I know what you're thinking.
26:19This screams Spanish dream lifestyle.
26:22Yeah, definitely.
26:23For one, it was open to the elements.
26:25Two, it was dirty.
26:27It was cluttered.
26:29It was very, just, uninviting.
26:33This isn't even finished.
26:35I mean, the garage door is basically a shower curtain.
26:38This keeps the thieves at bay.
26:41Yeah.
26:42I think when we first saw it,
26:45I looked at it and I thought,
26:46this is pretty grim,
26:48but I can see its potential.
26:52Oh, it's looking amazing, isn't it?
26:54It's good.
26:55I mean, genuinely,
27:05a completely different room.
27:08Now, it's just an amazing space.
27:13It's somewhere that you would want to hang out
27:15and be there and it's bright,
27:17it feels modern.
27:19It's just a really lovely addition to the house.
27:24Well done.
27:24Oh, don't cry.
27:28I'd say, like...
27:29Are you crying because now you're going to have to get fit?
27:36Damn it.
27:37I had very little involvement with the sort of vision
27:40and the formation of the gym,
27:41so when I saw it with Jazz for the first time,
27:44it was a real, I think for Jazz and for me,
27:46it was a real pinch me moment of, you know,
27:49I own a house that now has a fully functioning gym
27:51and, you know, it's not something we ever thought we'd achieve.
27:56Whether I use it or not may remain to be seen.
28:01It feels like a massive extravagance to have it,
28:06but it's just amazing.
28:08Coming from a very working-class family
28:13in a really underprivileged area of London,
28:18you know, never in my wildest dreams
28:21did I ever think that something like this
28:23would be a reality in...
28:24I meant to say that would make you cry.
28:33Well, all the houses I've looked at over the years
28:35and they're so aspirational and you're like,
28:38imagine having something like that
28:40and then actually having something like that.
28:42It's kind of overwhelming.
28:45Yeah, I don't get it.
28:46Just have to make sure we use it.
28:48Go on, then.
28:49Yeah?
28:50No time like the present.
28:51Come on, then.
28:51I like wetting myself for hell.
29:02Ready?
29:03Breathe out.
29:05Breathe in as you come down.
29:07Just do that.
29:08Now up.
29:14Go.
29:17Breathe out on the exhaustion.
29:19Just keep moving.
29:21I haven't got enough space here to keep...
29:23I have to move the bench out of the way.
29:25Keep it with your left foot.
29:26Oh!
29:32I don't have my own strength.
29:33Oh!
29:34I'm going with my left foot.
29:36Lucky we've had two children.
29:37Oh!
29:38While a lot of the focus has been on the gym
29:44and main entertainment space,
29:46work has been ticking along in the basement bathroom
29:49that's now also complete.
29:52The bathroom in the garage when we first came
29:55was not particularly nice.
29:58Oh, careful, Albie.
29:59Mind you don't trip.
30:00A very luxurious toilet.
30:04What did you think of the window?
30:06There is none.
30:08There is one.
30:08There's just a hole in the wall.
30:10There was no door on it, for one thing.
30:12There was a toilet and there was a sink
30:14and a broken tap.
30:17You know, the plumbing was there.
30:19That's about the only thing that made it
30:20an actual bathroom.
30:22This has come together really well
30:26in the end, hasn't it?
30:34Mind-blowing to think what this was
30:37and what it is now.
30:40I mean, and it was quite good use
30:42of the leftover tiles as well.
30:45A really good use.
30:45From the upstairs bathroom
30:46and from the basement floor.
30:51Look at how they can go.
30:52Look at yourself at home, the cat.
30:53Literally asleep on the towels.
30:55She's found her new favourite place
30:56in the house.
30:59You know, the whole process
31:00of this renovation has been quite
31:02slow going and it's been quite hard.
31:06You know, getting the progress
31:08that we want.
31:10So having an area
31:12that is now done,
31:13it's finished,
31:14we can tick it off the list,
31:15feels really good.
31:18To celebrate the finished room,
31:20Jasmine has organised
31:21a special day trip to Malaga.
31:24It's a chance for the couple
31:25to reconnect after the stresses
31:27and strains of being apart.
31:30It's really important
31:31that Jaz and I try and grab
31:33little windows of time together
31:34when we can
31:35because when I'm back from work,
31:37there's so much going on with the house
31:39and there's so much going on
31:40with the kids.
31:42It's important that we try
31:43and spend some time together.
31:44Every time we come to Malaga,
31:48we pass by the fortress
31:50and we've actually never been inside.
31:53So we're having a guided tour today
31:55looking around with a lovely chap called Paco.
31:58Hola.
31:59Hello, how are you?
32:01Buenos dias.
32:01Welcome to Malaga.
32:03He's going to tell us about the history
32:04and show us all the best spots.
32:13Towering above Malaga's old town,
32:16the Alcazaba fortress
32:17is a Moorish marvel
32:18dating back to the 11th century.
32:21Built in a period of turmoil
32:23towards the end
32:24of the powerful ruling
32:25by the Caliphate of Cordoba,
32:27a medieval Islamic state
32:29who ruled over much of Spain,
32:32the Alcazaba
32:33has an interesting story to tell.
32:36They needed to build the fortress
32:37quite quickly
32:38when the Caliphate of Cordoba
32:40was broken.
32:41So they used it without money.
32:43So they used it
32:43different poor material
32:45that rebelled,
32:46sea stones and bricks.
32:48Quickly and cheaply.
32:49Exactly.
32:50That's exactly what we're looking for,
32:51isn't it, for our house?
32:52Have you got their number?
32:53Exactly.
32:54The Moors who came to Spain
32:56from North Africa
32:57ruled for some 800 years
32:59between the 8th and 15th century,
33:02with Malaga being the main
33:03arrival point for soldiers
33:05and an important military stronghold.
33:08All these kind of towers
33:09have small corners
33:11because usually one attack
33:13was on a horse.
33:14So with all these doors,
33:17the horse come a bit slowly.
33:21Yes.
33:21It is slowly
33:22and you have soldiers
33:23in all the walls
33:24with different arms
33:26defending the fortresses.
33:28It was easy.
33:29So it's not like
33:29if you were attacking on horseback.
33:32Exactly.
33:32You haven't got a nice straight
33:33run to gallop the roof.
33:35It was very difficult.
33:37The corner was to slow you down
33:38so everyone could then
33:39have a shot at you.
33:41Yeah.
33:41I mean, it's clever, really, isn't it?
33:43We look at it as just
33:44really unusual, beautiful,
33:45interesting architecture,
33:47but it all has a purpose behind it.
33:51The Alcazaba wasn't just a stronghold.
33:53It was a whole world of its own.
33:56With elegant courtyards,
33:58tranquil gardens,
33:59living quarters,
34:01and even baths,
34:02the Alcazaba was as much a palace
34:04as it was a fortress,
34:06a little fortified town
34:07perched above the sea.
34:10And now you can see this garden
34:12with a typical fountain
34:14because we have a lot of water.
34:16The water is one element
34:17very important
34:18during the Muslim period.
34:19We need to use the water
34:21to purify before
34:22prying inside the mosque
34:24to have life to the plants,
34:26the trees, the gardens.
34:27You see, here we can see,
34:28for example,
34:29this jasmine
34:30is not the local jasmine.
34:32It's not the local one?
34:33No.
34:34The local jasmine
34:35is coming from Arabia,
34:37from the dessert.
34:39But this is a Chinese jasmine.
34:41It's different
34:42because the flowers
34:43are smaller,
34:45smell different,
34:46and they produce a lot.
34:48And I need to tell you
34:50one secret.
34:51Jasmines is a nice repellent
34:53from the mosquitoes.
34:54I had no idea
34:56that jasmine
34:58was a mosquito repellent,
35:01a natural mosquito repellent.
35:03I'm going to be planting
35:04jasmine everywhere.
35:07I had no idea
35:09of the people
35:10who are not going to be
35:12in the water.
35:13The views.
35:14Wow.
35:16That is spectacular, isn't it?
35:19You can see
35:20all the panorama
35:21that they had,
35:22the mountains here.
35:23That is an amazing view.
35:24Yeah, it's very nice.
35:25Thank you so much.
35:27What a lovely,
35:29amazing visit.
35:30Thank you for your insight.
35:31You're welcome.
35:34The views
35:35were spectacular.
35:38I mean,
35:38you cannot beat
35:39that view
35:40of Malaga City.
35:42The gardens
35:43were so stunning,
35:44surrounded by jasmine
35:46and all the
35:47lovely indigenous plants.
35:50And I really like
35:51the arches
35:52because actually
35:53for some reason
35:54under there
35:55you kind of feel
35:57the place
35:57has got a soul.
35:59This
36:00really helps you
36:01to explore the history
36:03and I think
36:03that will definitely
36:05be back.
36:05The belated end
36:19of phase two
36:20is in sight.
36:22What was
36:22a garage space
36:23and bathroom
36:24has been upgraded
36:25into a home gym,
36:27a fully renovated
36:28bathroom
36:29and is soon
36:30to be a multi-use
36:31entertainment zone.
36:34Dominic
36:35and his team
36:36are preparing
36:36the basement
36:37for the delivery
36:38of the centre point
36:38of the room.
36:41That is a beast.
36:42124.
36:44It stays on, yeah.
36:45And delivering
36:45the goods
36:46is Jasmine
36:47and John's
36:47trusted friend,
36:49Carlos.
36:51I've come to bring
36:52the hockey machine
36:53to Jasmine
36:55and John
36:55who went to
36:57Almería
36:57for them.
36:58Very good.
37:00We'll take it,
37:01wait,
37:01I'll take it from there
37:01and we'll take it
37:03and we'll take it
37:03a little bit back.
37:03We've done
37:05a 600km
37:08and we're here
37:09we're happy
37:10to bring the machine
37:12so you can enjoy it.
37:14No much,
37:15don't rise a lot,
37:16don't rise a lot
37:17so you can go.
37:17Watch the top,
37:18Les,
37:18I'll say it.
37:19Top.
37:19Watch it.
37:20Go on, mate.
37:20There,
37:20right,
37:20right,
37:21right.
37:21Watch the step.
37:23With the air hockey
37:24table weighing over
37:25200kg,
37:27it's taking a lot
37:28of manpower
37:29to shift it.
37:30Yeah.
37:31Go on,
37:31I've got it, mate.
37:32No, I ain't.
37:33Go on, mate.
37:34Wait, wait, wait.
37:35Go on, mate.
37:36Don't turn too early.
37:40As well as managing
37:42the weight,
37:43the height
37:43could be an issue.
37:45Go on,
37:45crack on, boys.
37:46Wait, wait,
37:46listen.
37:47Get on,
37:48wait,
37:49don't move it.
37:49It's
37:50.
37:51Oh,
37:51.
37:52Wait, wait, wait.
37:54Ah.
37:54Ah.
37:55Ah.

38:04Yeah.
38:05Yeah.
38:05Yeah.
38:06Yeah.
38:06With the table in place,
38:08there's only one thing left to do.
38:10Dominic?
38:10How's he going?
38:11For you?
38:12Yeah, yeah.
38:13Yeah, yeah.
38:14Yeah, yeah.
38:15Hemos hecho un duelo Inglaterra contra España.
38:19It works.
38:31Yeah.
38:31Yeah.
38:32It's a mini game.
38:33There we go.
38:41Oh,
38:41Oh,
38:42Oh,
38:43Goal.
39:30...señando a fruición.
39:32Y así, esos últimos últimos touches...
39:34Es emocionante.
39:37Para mí, la basura será la mejor habitación de la habitación.
