Schoolies has kicked off on the Gold Coast with 15 thousand school leavers expected to celebrate with their peers.

00:00What's the atmosphere there like?
00:05Well, the class of 2025 have arrived.
00:09Now, many of them are here in Surface Paradise behind me.
00:12They're collecting their wristbands before checking into their hotels
00:16to get ready for the biggest party of the year.
00:18As you said, about 15,000 school leavers are expected to make their way
00:23here to the Gold Coast over the next week.
00:25But celebrations will be slightly different, particularly on Surface Paradise Beach.
00:31Now, that's because of the beach erosion caused by tropical cyclone Alfred.
00:35However, organisers say there will still be plenty of activities for them to do.
00:40There will be yoga by the beach as well as the First Schoolies Run Club.
00:45And that's to cater to the growing number of young people
00:47who are wanting to do wholesome daytime activities instead of being hungover.
00:52Then at night time, the Safer Schoolies Hub on Surface Paradise Beach,
00:56that will open up to school leavers to allow them to party on the beach with their friends.
01:01Now, that's open over the next six, seven nights, right up until November the 28th.
01:10Now, toolies and moolies are banned.
01:12Only school leavers who are wearing a wristband will be allowed in.
