Queenslanders swamp Brisbane riverbanks, beaches to herald in 202

Revellers said Brisbane's light show to welcome the new year did not disappoint. As  tens of thousands lined the Brisbane River swamped beaches and packed pubs to celebrate.

00:00From the beach, to the banks of the Brisbane River, all eyes were on the skies when the

00:16clock struck midnight and the light show didn't disappoint.

00:20Amazing.

00:21Best fireworks I've ever seen in my life.

00:22There was like rainbows popping up and there was on the top there was like, when they were

00:23spreading out like this, it looked like angel wings.

00:32And just when it seemed like it was all over, there were actually more fireworks, and that

00:37took, and that took like, let me calculate, 20 minutes.

00:41Queenslanders celebrated the final few hours of 2024 in style, dancing, cheering, some

00:54sleeping through.

00:55Thankfully, the early fireworks provided entertainment before some of the kids crashed.

01:00It's good that they do a 7.45 show because we're going to be in bed by midnight.

01:05Revelers were on their best behaviour, most anyway, with 33 arrested in Brisbane, 25

01:12on the Sunshine Coast and 34 on the Gold Coast.

01:15And of course, it's not New Year's without resolutions.

01:19To be more confident in myself.

01:20To get a job to buy stuff.

01:22Others, perhaps a little less achievable.

01:25To become a millionaire.

01:26Some were out bright and early this morning, hitting the beach and the pavement, getting

01:31a jump start on their 2025 goals.

01:34We got up very early actually, 5 o'clock, went for a walk, now walking the dock again.

01:39My plan is to get fitter, because I've become a bit slothful this year.

01:44In Rockhampton, Perid Shea and Jack Hugh started the new year with an early surprise.

01:49It was a couple of weeks early, so we didn't think we'd be having a baby today, but sure

01:53enough at 6.14 this morning, Harry entered the world.
