00:00So when was the last time you guys lost the game?
00:03One last year.
00:05Was that Oceanside?
00:06Yeah.
00:06Okay, so that's, is that in anyone's minds, thinking about, you know,
00:12been on such a run since then?
00:13Different year, different team.
00:15Never mind, it was the last season.
00:17It was the first game of last season, so totally different.
00:20There's another Chiefs dynasty here on Long Island, maybe.
00:23What does that mean that this is one of your last high school football games?
00:27As a group, we've been playing together since we were young.
00:30We have a huge senior class of 32 kids, so we started when we were young.
00:33We built it up all together, playing, practicing since we were seven years old.
00:38So it means a lot to come up here and have such a great team that we do.
00:42What do you guys do outside of practice?
00:44Outside of practice, you know, we have a thing called Chick Mondays.
00:47We all go to Chick-fil-A on the day before the games.
00:52We have our pasta parties, and we have a thing called prayer.
00:55We all just hang out, you know, speak our mind about what we did during the week
00:58and how we think the game's going to go.
01:00And then, you know, everyone, you know, meets up after the game.
01:04But, you know, it's fun.
01:05We always try to eliminate, yeah, stay together and eliminate the little clicks within the team.
01:11So, you know, we always hang out.
01:13Someone hosts for Sunday NFL, you know, just watching the games, getting food.
01:16So it's fun.
01:17A three-peat has never been done in Nassau County at this conference level.
01:22So here you are with the chance to change that.
01:25Yeah, I mean, it's in the back of your minds.
01:27But, you know, you tell the kids that, you know, we're not defending anything.
01:32We're going to get, you know, another championship.
01:34You know, it's a whole new year.
01:35It's 2025.
01:36It's not 2024.
01:38You know, the seniors get to write their story and their legacy.
01:40And that's the way it's been all season.
01:42You know, for the past couple of years, you know, the senior group is very strong,
01:46very close-knit.
01:47And, you know, they work extremely hard, you know.
01:49So we're at where we're at because of their leadership, first and foremost,
01:53and the work ethic of the entire team.
01:56Since the education secretary came to the high school, spoke in the gym,
02:00got everybody kind of pumped up, did you notice any more of a spark in your guys?
02:04No, I mean, they're resilient.
02:06They're going to, you know, they're going to play no matter what.
02:09You know, we'll play, you know, we say it all the time, we'll play anyone, anytime, anywhere.
02:12You know, we don't need any extra motivation other than the fact that, you know,
02:16our kids are prepared, they're motivated, you know, they're ready to go.
02:20It is really nice to know that, you know, we're backed by people.
02:23But, you know, everyone that's here that lives in this town, you know, bleeds blue and gold.
02:27So, to be honest with you, we don't got to be told that.
02:29You know, the inspiration comes from us.
02:31All that matters is the 60 guys on this field.
02:34You know, everyone else gets shut out until we get our job done.
02:37What would it mean to cap off senior year, not just with a county win,
02:39but, you know, winning all of Long Island?
02:42Oh, it'll be history.
02:44I mean, nobody's ever done a three-peat, so we're going for it all in Conference 1.
02:48To do it, being that we all grew up all together, so to cap it off with a win,
02:53it would be pretty special to every single one of us,
02:55being that we were working really for this moment our whole entire lives
02:59to win as much as we could, and it would be pretty special to win everything.
03:03What's your message to some of the younger guys who are stepping up
03:07and are going to be taking the role for me next year?
03:10There's plenty of examples this season.
03:12I mean, you know, even my brother, the number 42, his first varsity start,
03:16he got to pick six.
03:18You know, you got to know that your number can always be called,
03:21and when you go out there, it's your responsibility to make a play.
03:23Number 44, our defensive end, I had to sit out one game because of injury,
03:29and he stepped in and out.
03:30He's part of the starting lineup, so you just got to be ready to always go.
03:34It's the next man up always.
03:35Next man up.
03:36Put your best foot forward and give your best effort during practice
03:39because it will pay off.
03:41Going for a championship with your brother, what does that mean to you?
03:44It means everything.
03:45You know, since when we were little, Mustangs, you know, playing youth,
03:49I've always looked up to him, and finally being able to be on the same field as him
03:54and make huge plays with him is really special.
03:56You were telling me about a huge pick six you had this season.
03:59Talk to me a little bit about that.
04:01Yeah, I mean, it was the first week against Freeport.
04:03You know, I was kind of in the right place at the right time.
04:07The ball popped up.
04:09I took it, and it was an open field, and, yeah, I took it all the way.
04:12I started celebrating with my friends.
