00:00Good news! She's dead!
00:07Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at things to remember before seeing Part 2 of Wicked.
00:13We'll be going into spoilers for the first film,
00:16although we'll avoid specific plot points from Act 2 of the stage musical, which Wicked for Good adapts.
00:22I have been changed for good.
00:27Number 10. Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead.
00:31While most of the first film is chronicled through flashbacks,
00:34the opening picks up toward The Wizard of Oz's ending.
00:37He's dead! The Witch of the West is dead!
00:42The wickedest witch there ever was! The enemy of all of us here in Oz is dead!
00:51Some familiar figures have claimed the Wicked Witch's broom,
00:55seemingly leaving nothing behind other than the melted villain's hat.
00:59Oz rejoices upon learning that the land's most hated enemy has been defeated.
01:03Yes!
01:06The Wicked Witch of the West is dead!
01:09Isn't it nice to know?
01:17As we see throughout the film, though, things aren't always as they appear.
01:21For starters, Glinda the Good Witch was friends with the so-called Wicked Witch of the West.
01:25I know. Let's tell each other something we've never told anyone before.
01:29Okay, fine. I'll go first.
01:31Their bond formed at Shiz University.
01:34Back when the Wicked Witch was known as Elphaba Throp, there's another side to every story.
01:39Only half of Elphaba's has been told.
01:42Citizens of Oz, there is an enemy who must be found and captured.
01:50For many in the land of Oz, the whole story may never be heard.
01:53Number 9. Animal Cruelty
01:55Growing up, Elphaba received more affection from her nanny, Dulce Bear, than from her father.
02:01It's all right, little one. He shouldn't have blamed you.
02:05Dulce Bear!
02:07Upon arriving at Shiz, Elphaba forms a connection with Dr. Dillamond.
02:18Although animals helped build the university, their contributions have been paved over.
02:22And it isn't encouraged to discuss this in our classes, but...
02:27There have been some great changes throughout Oz with the rejection of animal culture.
02:32Dillamond is among the few remaining animal educators at Shiz.
02:36Many Ozians believe that animals don't have the right to teach or speak.
02:40Who is responsible for this?
02:47Very well. Class dismissed.
02:50This prompts some animals to flee from Oz, while Dillamond sticks around long enough to be taken away.
02:56Elphaba believes she can create a better world for animals with the wizard's help.
03:00This is your chance. To make good.
03:04Of course, you're gonna have to prove yourself first.
03:08Prove myself?
03:09Prove yourself worthy.
03:10When he has Elphaba cast a spell on his monkey guards, though, it becomes clear that the wizard isn't the solution.
03:16He's behind the animal oppression, giving Oz an enemy to rally against.
03:21That's why you need all of this, and you need spies, and animals, and cages, and an enemy.
03:27You...
03:28You have no real power!
03:30Exactly.
03:31Number 8. The Wizard of Lies
03:33Elphaba finds the wonderful wizard isn't all that wonderful.
03:48He isn't magical either.
03:50Unable to read from the grimmery spellbook like Elphaba, the wizard was but an ordinary human from our world when he arrived in Oz.
03:58While he lacks magic, the wizard brought with him a scientific background and lofty ambitions to reshape Oz.
04:05This paved the way for him to become the most celebrated figure in the Emerald City,
04:09as well as the most mysterious, hiding behind a curtain and a mechanical head.
04:13I didn't know it was you.
04:15You made it.
04:17Uh, sorry about all that, I didn't mean to startle you.
04:23To keep the public on his side, the wizard decides to give them something, or someone, to fight against.
04:29Herein lies the wizard's true power, manipulation.
04:33When I first got here, there was discord, there was discontent.
04:38And back where I come from, everybody knows that the best way to bring folks together is to give them a real good enemy.
04:48Of course, he isn't the only master of deceit in Oz.
04:51Number 7. Madame Morrible is the true villain.
04:54That was me.
04:57To prepare you to expect the unexpected here at Shiz.
05:04While the wizard seeks to control Elphaba, Madame Morrible is also influencing him.
05:09The wizard is more than happy to conspire with Morrible, although her former student isn't as willing.
05:15He's in pain.
05:16Quick, how do I reverse it?
05:18Reverse?
05:19How do I reverse it?
05:20A spell from the grammar can never be reversed.
05:22Elphaba looked up to Morrible as a mentor at Shiz.
05:25Morrible, meanwhile, saw Elphaba as somebody she could use as a puppet.
05:29Once Elphaba cuts her strings, Morrible deems her an enemy of Oz, providing the wicked moniker.
05:46Unable to control Elphaba, Morrible sets her eyes on Glinda, who might not show much promise in the magic department.
05:53Yet, Glinda's ability to win people over makes her just as powerful.
05:57Where a part of the wizard genuinely wants to make people happy, Morrible is all about authority, being this story's true wicked figure.
06:04Citizens of Oz, there is an enemy who must be found and captured.
06:12Number 6. Save the Cat
06:14Yes, Miss Glinda.
06:17It is Glinda, Glinda, Glinda, Glinda, and I don't see why you can't just teach us history.
06:24One minute, animals are teaching the students of Shiz.
06:27The next, the students are experimenting on animals.
06:29This remarkable innovation is for the good of all Oz, as well as for the animal's own good, you see.
06:35If it's so good, why is he trembling?
06:37Elphaba can't stand idly by when Dr. Dilliman's replacement, Professor Nicky Dick, brings in a caged lion cub.
06:44Before he can take away the cub's ability to speak, Elphaba casts a spell that puts everyone else in the room to sleep.
06:50That is, other than Prince Fierro.
06:53Hey, hey, hey!
06:55Hey, come here.
06:59What is happening?
07:00I don't know, I got mad and...
07:05Fierro, what are you doing?
07:08Well, you coming?
07:10While it isn't explained why Fierro remained awake, it's the first sign that Elphaba sees him as more than a brainless pretty boy.
07:17Fierro also sees a different side of Elphaba, deciding to rescue the lion with her.
07:22Although they get the cub to safety, this lion isn't entering the most accepting world, which may leave him cowering in fear.
07:29I better get to safety.
07:32The cub.
07:34I better get here.
07:35Of course not.
07:36The cub to safety.
07:37Number 5.
07:38Love Triangles
07:39Is this how you go through life?
07:40Just running amok and trampling anyone in your path?
07:44No.
07:46No.
07:47Sometimes I'm asleep.
07:48Although he secretly carries a torch for Elphaba, Fierro is in a relationship with Glinda, who believes they're destined for marriage.
07:55That's not the only complicated love triangle that blossoms at shiz.
07:58Glinda.
07:59Glinda.
08:00Glinda.
08:01Here.
08:05Keep it.
08:07I've got many.
08:08The munchkin Bok Woodsman longs for Glinda to return his affection.
08:11Instead, she turns his attention to Nessa Rose, Elphaba's sister.
08:15You'll never guess what just happened to me.
08:17What?
08:18That perfectly adorable munchkin boy just asked me out.
08:22He said he was too shy to ask me at first.
08:25Nessa Rose quickly takes a liking to Bok, although it's evident that he's only with her because Glinda is out of reach.
08:31So just to recap, Nessa likes Bok, who likes Glinda, who likes Fierro, who likes Elphaba, who likes Fierro, who's with Glinda, who introduced Bok to Nessa.
08:40Why is it you're always causing some sort of commotion?
08:43I don't cause commotions.
08:44I am one.
08:45Yeah.
08:46Well, that's for sure.
08:47So you think I should just keep my mouth shut?
08:49Is that what you're saying?
08:50We guess that technically makes this a love hexagon.
08:53Maybe a love heptagon, since Fanny also has the hots for Fierro.
08:57Enroll here often?
08:58Could I ask you?
09:01Anything.
09:02Anything you want.
09:03Number four, Elphaba's powers.
09:06Unlimited.
09:10My future is unlimited.
09:14Elphaba might be the most powerful person in Oz.
09:17She doesn't entirely have a grasp on those powers, however.
09:20During The Wizard and I Number, Elphaba has a vision that one day there will be a celebration in Oz about her.
09:26I stand there with the wizards, feeling the things I've never felt, and though I'd never show it, I'd be so happy I could melt.
09:41Her prophecy is correct, although this celebration isn't what she thinks.
09:45Elphaba also foretells that animals will be held captive, another premonition that comes true.
09:51Could that really happen?
09:53It is happening.
09:55You'll find if you make it discouraging enough, you can keep anyone silent.
10:01Being tutored by Madame Morable, Elphaba learns how to control some of the powers she once strove to hide.
10:07After cutting ties with Morable, Elphaba can only rely on her own instincts and the grimmery.
10:13While Elphaba doesn't understand everything she reads from the spellbook, she learns just enough to master flight.
10:19Number three, Elphaba's parentage.
10:33It's uncanny, succeed.
10:38Like a froggy, ferny cabbage, the baby is unnaturally.
10:43Green.
10:47Governor Throp resented Elphaba from the moment she was born with green skin.
10:51When Mrs. Throp became pregnant again, the governor of Munchkinland forced her to drink milk flowers so Nessa wouldn't come out the same way.
10:59This inadvertently caused Nessa to be born prematurely, resulting in the governess's death.
11:04Although it wasn't her fault, the governor blamed Elphaba, intensifying the animosity toward his daughter.
11:10Make sure she has everything she needs.
11:13Father, she's on her own.
11:15Stop chappering!
11:17Just do what I say!
11:18Of course, the governor was never truly Elphaba's father.
11:21We mean that in more ways than one.
11:23Elphaba's mother had an affair with a mystery man who offered her a green elixir.
11:27Have another drink of green elixir.
11:37Elphaba doesn't know the story behind her conception, but she held onto the bottle that her biological father gave to her mother.
11:43Give it back!
11:45Oh!
11:46It was my mother's, that's all.
11:49Well, that's not fair.
11:53Number 2. Going Separate Ways
11:55Nessa and I were talking about you just now and...
11:58Oh, well we were just talking about you.
12:00How you should join us tonight.
12:02I don't follow.
12:04I don't follow.
12:05Despite starting as rivals, Elphaba and Glinda are the best of friends by the time they arrive in the Emerald City.
12:11Upon peeking behind the curtain, they're given a life altering choice.
12:15Don't be afraid.
12:17I'm not afraid.
12:23It's the wizard who should be afraid of me.
12:25Elphaba decides to flee to the west with the Grimmery, rebelling against the wizard in an effort to save the animals of Oz.
12:31Although Elphaba invites Glinda to join her, she can't follow.
12:35I hope you're happy.
12:38Now that you're choosing this.
12:41You too.
12:43I hope it brings you bliss.
12:46The two part as friends, wishing each other the best.
12:49Deep down though, the two know that they are headed in opposite directions.
13:01Both seek to do good, but goodness isn't as easily defined as either thought.
13:05The same can't be said about wickedness, something Elphaba and Glinda will have to confront eventually.
13:11Will they do it separately or together?

13:41Number 1. Dorothy dropping in.
13:44Part 1 only gave us a glimpse of Dorothy making her way down the yellow brick road with the witch's broomstick.
13:49Part 2 catches up with the story we know, telling the Wizard of Oz from a different perspective.
14:02While Dorothy isn't the protagonist, she is an essential figure along with the Scarecrow and Tin Man, who we've also yet to get a good look at.
14:10Or have we?
14:11The real question is how big a role Dorothy will play in Wicked For Good.
14:27In the stage version, the most we see is Dorothy's shadow.
14:40If Wicked For Good expands upon the source material, maybe those rumors of a certain child actress being in the film are true.
14:47Either way, Dorothy isn't in Kansas anymore.
14:58Are you looking forward to Wicked For Good?
