00:00Haven't you heard?
00:03I'm the Wicked Witch of the West.
00:05Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:07And today, we're counting down our picks for the moments in Wicked For Good that made us pause a clock tick
00:12and think back to how it all ties into The Wizard of Oz.
00:15Of course, this means we will be discussing plot points from the whole story.
00:19So this is your spoiler warning.
00:22I swear it never ends with that girl.
00:25Number 10. Could Dorothy hear Elphaba and Glinda singing For Good?
00:30You may have seen all those TikToks of people reimagining For Good from Dorothy's perspective.
00:35I ask forgiveness.
00:37For the things I've done, you blame me, boy.
00:40Like, like, and be, uh.
00:42But then I guess we know there's blame to shame.
00:47Not for me.
00:48They're funny, true, but also they do kind of have a point.
00:52Glinda literally came to beg Elphaba to let Dorothy go, but then gets sidetracked when she realizes this is goodbye.
00:59Elphaba.
01:00They're coming for you.
01:02Just look at me.
01:05Not with your eyes.
01:07With theirs.
01:08So if you think about it, Dorothy is trapped in some basement, probably listening to every word that's being sung.
01:14What could possibly be going through her mind?
01:17Or maybe she was too distressed to pay attention.
01:19Either way, we're guessing it didn't leave much of a handprint on her heart because she still went ahead and threw that bucket of water.
01:26Don't throw that water!
01:30You cursed rat! Look what you've done!
01:33Number 9. Hey Madame Morrible, are you a good witch or a bad witch?
01:38When you live in a bubble, your thinking is likely to be a little black and white.
01:42Like Glinda, who has at some point in her life learned that only bad witches are ugly.
01:47Are you a good witch or a bad witch?
01:49If we were Dorothy, we'd be insulted if she'd even have to ask.
01:53Anyway, if anything, this sounds like she's just parroting some vile propaganda that's been spun to take down her friend.
01:59Her green skin is but an outward manifestorium of her twisted nature.
02:08However, we then also have to wonder if this is why she took far too long to question Madame Morrible's motives.
02:14Did she think no one that beautiful could possibly be bad?
02:17Instead, she learns the hard way that true beauty or ugliness lives on the inside.
02:25Wave.
02:28And shut your mouth!
02:31Number 8. Why does Glinda send Dorothy to the Emerald City?
02:34The wizard is all smoke and mirrors, and Glinda knows that.
02:38So when she sent Dorothy and her little dog Dodo, is it, down the yellow brick road, what was she thinking?
02:44I'm a public figure now. People expect me to fly.
02:47Be encouraging.
02:48She knew he had no real power to help Dorothy.
02:51So was it just to get Dorothy out of the way?
02:54Was she concerned about a munchkin uprising?
02:56And we will glorify your name.
03:00You'll be a bust.
03:01You'll be a bust.
03:02You'll be a bust.
03:03In the hall of fame.
03:05Or maybe she was hoping, as a traveler himself, the wizard might actually surprise them all by being helpful for once?
03:11We guess it wouldn't have been very good for her image to simply say,
03:14Sorry, kid. Can't help ya.
03:16And then float away in her bubble.
03:18She could have at least offered a shortcut.
03:20Goodbye, Dorothy.
03:21Goodbye, Dodo.
03:22It's just that one road the whole time.
03:24Number 7. Fly, fly, fly.
03:27Although Wicked isn't technically part of the Wizard of Oz canon,
03:30this is the point where both paths on the yellow brick road come back together.
03:34Before Elphaba had a name, we knew her simply as the Wicked Witch of the West.
03:38So it makes sense that the film tips its pointed hat to the 1939 version.
03:42Like Elphaba's cackle, which is clearly an homage to Margaret Hamilton's performance.
03:47Please.
03:48Where'd you get that?
03:49Also, when she frees the winged monkeys, she repeatedly tells them to fly.
03:57To fly!
03:59Echoing the line long tied to their send-off in The Wizard of Oz,
04:03it's a clever repurposing of a classic quote,
04:05reshaped to fit the Elphaba we meet in this story.
04:08Now fly! Fly!
04:12Number 6. How did the lion learn to speak?
04:16When we first meet the lion, he's just a frightened little cub,
04:19who we're told is caged so that he'll never learn to speak.
04:23One benefit of caging an animal this young is that in all likelihood,
04:26he'll never learn to speak.
04:28Elphaba and Fierro break him out, and now, years later, he's back and quite articulate.
04:35So we have to wonder where he picked up speech,
04:37especially in a world where animals were being terrorized into silence.
04:41I haven't any courage at all.
04:43I even scare myself.
04:45Look at the circles under my eyes.
04:49I haven't slept in weeks.
04:51Why don't you try counting sheep?
04:53That doesn't do any good. I'm afraid of them.
04:56Had he been lurking in the shadows, listening and learning?
05:00Considering his cowardice, we're guessing he wasn't exactly out there mixing and mingling.
05:05His grudge against Elphaba adds an interesting wrinkle,
05:08but he seems to miss the fact that without her, he wouldn't even have the voice he's using to gripe.
05:14The lion also has a grievance to repay.
05:17If she'd let him fight his own battles when he was young, he wouldn't be a coward today!
05:23Number 5. How long had the Tin Man been rusting?
05:31In The Wizard of Oz, the Tin Man tells Dorothy he'd been rusted solid for about a year after getting caught in the rain.
05:37About a year ago, I was chopping that tree, when suddenly it began to rain.
05:42And right in the middle of a chop, I rusted solid.
05:46And I've been that way ever since.
05:48Perhaps it only felt that long because, through the wicked lens, that timeline makes little sense.
05:54Bach escapes Nessa right after his transformation.
05:57And the next time we see her, she's out in the storm searching for him.
06:01Though we doubt she's been looking for an entire year.
06:04What have you done to me?
06:05Because...
06:06If she thought she was crushed by Bach abandoning her, she didn't yet grasp the meaning of the word.
06:11We also doubt Dorothy and the Scarecrow spent a year skipping down the yellow brick road before meeting the Tin Man.
06:17We were just wondering why you couldn't come with us to the Emerald City to ask The Wizard of Oz for a heart.
06:22Well, suppose the wizard wouldn't give me one when we got there.
06:25Oh, but he will. He must. We've come such a long way already.
06:31Number 4. How did Glinda take Nessa's shoes without magic?
06:36For most of For Good, it's made quite clear to us that any power Glinda appears to have is just an illusion.
06:41Does that do what I think it does?
06:45No!
06:48No way!
06:50I'm obsesculated.
06:52We're really digging our heels in on this one.
06:54But how exactly did she get Nessa's shoes on Dorothy's feet?
06:57For one thing, Elphaba only recently enchanted them.
07:00So Glinda couldn't have even known of their magical qualities yet.
07:03Even in The Wizard of Oz, she seems to learn of their powers in real time.
07:07Give me back my slippers.
07:09I'm the only one that knows how to use them.
07:11They're no use to you.
07:13Give them back to me.
07:14Give them back!
07:15Keep tight inside of them.
07:16Their magic must be very powerful, or she wouldn't want them so badly.
07:20You might think maybe the shoes chose Dorothy.
07:23But again, they were enchanted by Elphaba.
07:25So why would they choose the girl who just bumped off their previous wearer, a.k.a. her sister?
07:30But just try to stay off of my way. Just try!
07:35I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!
07:39Number 3.
07:40Did the Wicked Witch truly melt?
07:42We promise you we're not trying to rewrite cinema history.
07:45Even so, considering the twist not so ending to Elphaba's story, it does make you look at the original melting scene a little differently.
07:52Please, somebody go and melt her!
07:57I can't just start my grinning pretending to go along with all this.
08:01For starters, why would there be a fully loaded bucket of water in the witch's castle to begin with?
08:06Carelessness or malice? Who knows?
08:09Secondly, have you ever truly paid attention to the witch's swan song?
08:12I'm melting! Melting!
08:15Oh, what a world, what a world!
08:18Who thought a good little girl like you could destroy my beautiful wickedness?
08:23That's a little on the dramatic side, don't you think?
08:26Almost as if she's putting on a performance for the benefit of an audience, right?
08:30What a world, what a world would it be if this whole dramatic exit were also just for show?
08:35I'm going!
08:37Oh!
08:38Oh!
08:39Oh!
08:40Oh!
08:41Oh!
08:42Oh!
08:43Oh!
08:44Oh!
08:45Number 2.
08:46Why was Fierro hanging about with Dorothy?
08:49We get why the movie kept Dorothy mostly in the background.
08:52But as fans, we really wish they'd cleared up a few things about her new alliances.
08:56You're the best friends anybody ever had.
08:59And it's funny, but I feel as if I've known you all the time.
09:03But I couldn't have, could I?
09:05Like, did Fierro and Bach seriously not recognize each other's voices?
09:09Or maybe Fierro did clock Bach, but kept quiet, since Bach is definitely not Team Elphaba.
09:15Also, why is Fierro tagging along with the kid wearing Nessa's stolen shoes?
09:20Who's literally been sent to kill Elphaba and take her broom?
09:23Bring me the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West.
09:27Did he think staying close would help him reach her?
09:30If so, that's quite a risk.
09:32We would've loved a little more insight into what was going through that straw-filled head of his.
09:36In my head, I'd be scratching while my thoughts were busy hatching if I only had a brain.
09:42Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
09:46The poppies.
09:48Interesting, the wizard should adorn himself with poppies when he has most of Oz fast asleep.
09:53With poison in it, but attractive to the eye and soothing the smell.
10:00Poppies.
10:03Poppies.
10:06Poppies will put them to sleep.
10:10Our Wizard Lies.
10:12We guess that Surrender Dorothy Skywriting wasn't her first attempt.
10:15Who's her? Who's her?
10:17It's the witch. She's followed us here.
10:20Surrender Dorothy.
10:23The Lullaby League.
10:25Does anyone else think the dancers during Thank Goodness are giving the Lullaby League?
10:29And in the name of the Lullaby League, we wish to welcome you to Munchkit Land.
10:39Where are those mean talking trees?
10:41It would give a whole new meaning to character growth.
10:44Right.
10:45Bye, Elphaba.
10:46Love you from the shoulder pad.
10:47Yeah.
10:49You just always look just a joy.
10:50So good.
10:51Joyful.

11:08Number 1.
11:09Why didn't Glinda just send Dorothy home to begin with?
11:13For decades, fans have pondered this question and even offered satirical answers.
11:18You've always had the power to go back to Kansas.
11:21Excuse me?
11:23Why didn't you tell her before?
11:25Because she wouldn't have believed me.
11:28Are you out of your f***ing mind?
11:30You came down with a big bubble.
11:32I would have believed anything that you said.
11:34However, it's possible that For Good may have just given us the best response we could've
11:39asked for.
11:40As one social media theory suggests, when Glinda first meets Dorothy, she genuinely is
11:45unable to help because, well, she has no real magic.
11:50You can wave that wand all you want.
11:52But you have no real power.
11:55However, by the time they reunite at the end, she now has the grimmery.
11:59And as we see, it's her desire to genuinely do good that finally makes it open up for
12:04her.
12:05So she can now send Dorothy home.
12:07As for the tapping of the heels and chanting, well, she does love a spectacle.
12:12Then close your eyes and tap your heels together three times.
12:19And think to yourself, there's no place like home.
12:24Is there anything else about Wicked For Good that made you rethink The Wizard of Oz?
