00:00You don't want to miss this.
00:01Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today, we're counting down our picks for the most devastating callbacks
00:06in Wicked for Good that had us weeping buckets. Spoilers ahead.
00:11Just look at me. Not with your eyes, but theirs.
00:18Number 10. The Desert Foreshadowing
00:20The Wizard and I include several moments of foreshadowing, including lyrics like
00:25I'd be so happy I could melt. And
00:29When people see me, they will scream.
00:33Elphaba also has a prophecy that sure is a little hazy, because when she saw
00:37Someday there'll be a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me.
00:49It's not quite the celebration she may have been hoping for. However, we do get a clearer
00:59foreshadowing toward the end of the number. As Elphaba runs through the field, it's almost
01:04as if she's running straight toward her future. Why, you ask? Well, take a look at that view.
01:09Not only is she staring out at a vast desert, but there's even a rainbow off in the distance.
01:14Little did we know back then how much meaning this visual would hold.
01:18Number 9. You Have No Real Power
01:36In The Wizard of Oz, Glinda wards off the Wicked Witch of the West by saying
01:41Yikes, Glinda. Too soon? Way too soon. However, Wicked shows us what happened after Glinda sends
01:51Dorothy skipping down the yellow brick road. In this confrontation, Elphaba says
01:55You can wave that wand all you want, but you have no real power. Now, where have we heard that before?
02:01You have no real power! It's more than just a clever nod to the movie. She's calling Glinda
02:07out for playing along with the wizard's whole emerald-covered illusion spectacle. That wand,
02:12much like her bubble, is basically one of his props, and Glinda's benefiting from his bag of tricks.
02:17Does that do what I think it does?
02:21No! No way! I'm obsessulated.
02:29The wand really sells it.
02:31She knows that Glinda still doesn't have an ounce of real magic. Well, not yet.
02:36Number 8. The Waterfall In No Good Deed
02:39No Good Deed is easily the climactic peak of the movie, and it more than earns that spot.
02:44All stormlight and fury swirling around Elphaba as her world rips open once again.
02:50No good deed goes unpunished. No act of charity goes unresented.
02:58There's plenty of intense imagery throughout, and we even get glimpses of Fierro getting beaten out
03:03in the field. However, there's a detail you might have missed. A waterfall in the background.
03:08No good deed goes unpunished.
03:14Could it be a callback to that same waterfall John M. Chu fought to include during the scene
03:26where Fierro and Elphaba free the lion cub? You know that first time they realized their
03:30feelings for each other? As if it wasn't all already heart-wrenching enough.
03:34I better get to safety. The cub. I better get me here. Of course I am. The cub to safety.
03:41Number 7. Unlimited. I'm Limited
03:44If Glinda's story is a sunrise, Elphaba's is a sunset. At first, Elphaba's sun is high,
03:51bright, and full of promise. She believes her future is unlimited, especially with Glinda by her side.
03:56Unlimited. Together we're unlimited. Together we'll be the greatest team there's ever been.
04:10But slowly, shadows creep in, and the sun starts to dip. Her possibilities fade as darkness settles,
04:16while for Glinda, the dawn is just beginning. But it's not like Glinda's path is all golden light,
04:21either. In part 1, Elphaba longs for Fierro in I'm Not That Girl. In For Good, it's Glinda's turn
04:27as it dawns on her that perhaps a picture-perfect life isn't all it's cracked up to be, if none of
04:32it is actually real. Don't wish. Don't start. Wishing only wounds the heart.
04:46Number 6. The Wizard Hiding Animals. In For Good, after Elphaba frees the monkeys,
04:51Chistery leads her to a secret passage hidden behind a portrait of the wizard. Moving it aside,
04:56she discovers a room full of caged animals, whom she frees.
05:00This is the work of the Wicked Witch. As one observant fan noticed, this moment may have been
05:06foreshadowed back in part 1. During Chiz's orientation, Elphaba tries to protect Nessa Rose
05:11from Miss Cottle's over-coddling, only to lose control of her powers and make a spectacular mess.
05:17Stop! Let her go!
05:21One thing caught in the crossfire is a mural of the wizard, which smashes and reveals the artwork
05:39underneath. Something just... something just takes over me, and something I can't control.
05:47The wizard's trachea comes alarmingly close to the same fate as the mural in For Good, too.
05:53Number 5. Blended In With The Foliage. Elphaba is knocked off her feet when she first meets
05:58Fierro. Literally. But in his defense...
06:01We didn't see you there. You must have... blended with the foliage.
06:06His attempts to charm his way through this less-than-conventional meet-cute are largely
06:10met with contempt. Elphaba delivers her usual spiel while he tries to cut through the frost
06:14with a little humor.
06:15No, I'm not seasick.
06:17Neither am I.
06:18No, I did not eat grass as a child.
06:20Oh, you didn't. I did.
06:21And yes, I have always been green.
06:25And the defensiveness, is that a recent development?
06:27While that might be the scene-stealing interaction, it's that first comment that's worth remembering
06:31going into For Good. With the gale force led by Fierro hot on her trail, where does Elphaba
06:37hide? That's right, she blends herself in with the foliage. And that's not even the only
06:42remark made in that scene to follow us into the second movie.
06:45I'm off for some more trampling. May we offer you a ride?
06:48No thanks. Get stuffed.
06:50Number 4. Ozdust Memories. One of the best stage-to-screen updates has to be adding Glinda
06:56to Wonderful.
06:57Come and be wonderful.
07:00Trust me, it's fun.
07:02We will be wonderful.
07:04You'll make me wonderful.
07:07It gives us a sweet throwback to the Ozdust ballroom, where their friendship first took root,
07:12reminding us of how wonderful things once were.
07:15But fun fact, it's not the only moment that echoes that night.
07:18Cinematographer Alice Brooks revealed that blue moonlight and orange torchlight at Kiyamako
07:23were designed to mirror the ballroom's glow.
07:32For Good is also shot in a similar style to both the Ozdust ballroom and Defying Gravity,
07:38using that same sweeping, full-circle camera movement.
07:41We even see them hold hands just as they did
07:44in that moment that truly cemented their newfound friendship.
07:55Number 3. The Closing Shot.
07:58You can absolutely tell these films were made by fans of the stage show for fans of the stage show.
08:03It's good to see me, isn't it?
08:05And we could all rejoice-ify knowing Ariana Grande was on set reminding everyone what the fans consider Bible.
08:11The Wizard will see you now!
08:14With all the callbacks, from dialogue, to songs, to cameos, there was one moment none of us saw coming.
08:20Right before the story closes, fans are treated to an image that's been with us like a handprint on our hearts
08:26ever since we first discovered the show.
08:28Reportedly, it was the team's way of thanking everyone who has loved and championed Wicked since day one.
08:33Who knew one single visual could make us ugly cry this hard?
08:37I have been changed.
08:42Think of what we could do.
08:44Together.
08:45For good.
08:51Number 2. Full Circle Endings.
08:54Anyone familiar with the musical knows that the story starts and ends at the same point,
08:59with Glinda addressing her fellow Ozians after The Melting.
09:03However, for good stepped that up a notch.
09:05We can't let good be just a word.
09:08It has to mean something.
09:10After leaving Munchkinland, Glinda heads back to the very same spot
09:13where she and Elphaba made those decisions that changed their trajectories for good.
09:17I really hope you get it, and you don't live to regret it.
09:23I hope you're happy in the end.
09:29Only this time, she has the Grimmery, which opens up for her.
09:33Back then, she was powerless and submitted herself to the wizard's regime
09:37because it promised her the life she thought she wanted.
09:40This time, the Grimmery seemingly has deemed her worthy of its magic,
09:44leaving her empowered to truly make good in Oz.
09:46I'd like to try to be Glinda the Good.
09:50Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
09:54Changing the Pop-Up Book.
09:56Prove that history is often determined by those who write it,
09:59but poor little Elphie.
10:00That book was her North Star.
10:02He loves emeralds, even though they're green.
10:06And Nessa, you want to know a secret?
10:09If you get to me here, it grants you a heart's desire.
10:13Galinda.
10:14Glinda gets the occasional reminder of who she truly is.
10:18Don't be upset, Glinda.
10:19It's Glinda now!
10:20Stupid!
10:20I don't even know what made me say it.
10:22It doesn't even matter what your name is.
10:23Everyone loves you.
10:24I don't care.
10:25I want him.
10:27I don't even think he's perfect anymore, and I still want him.
10:30Elphaba throwing rocks.
10:32A tried-and-true method in moments of pain and anger.
10:35A returning friend.
10:43Where have we seen this little critter before?
10:45Do you think the wizard is dumb?
10:48Or like a munchkin, so small-minded?
10:51No.
10:52Elphaba's hand on Fierro's face.
10:54It really is about looking at things another way.

11:21It's amazing to know that one of the most emotional moments of the movie was improvised
11:28by its leads.
11:29Especially when you think about how significant this moment truly is.
11:33Neither one of us knew that was happening on the other side of the door.
11:36Just like Elphaba creating a crack in Glinda's window, much like she did when they first became
11:41roomies, doors become almost like a significant motif in their story.
11:46You'll recall that in the scene before What Is This Feeling?,
11:49Glinda eyes up her new roommate through a peephole.
11:52At this point, Elphaba is the last person she wants to be around.
11:55Unadulterated loathing.
11:58For your face.
11:59Your voice.
12:00Your clothing.
12:01Let's just say, I love it all.
12:05Now, once again, Glinda watches Elphi behind a door.
12:08Only this time, she believes she's losing her best friend forever.
12:12You're the only friend I ever had.
12:14Because I knew you.
12:17And I have so many friends.
12:18I have been changed for good.
12:23But only one that mattered.
12:25Which callback hit you like a house falling from the sky?
