00:00:48The short answer is yes. While the show doesn't specify a time frame, Gregory Maguire's novel

00:01:10suggests it's been about 5 years. By now, Glinda is widely known as Glinda the Good, leaving

00:01:15her shiz days far behind. It's good to see me, isn't it?

00:01:19There's no reason the musical shouldn't follow this timeline, too. In fact, March of the Witch

00:01:23Hunters hints at a time shift.

00:01:25And the lion also has a grievance to repay. If she let him fight his own battles when he

00:01:31was young, he wouldn't be a coward today!

00:01:35So where's Elphaba been all this time? Well, as we know, she's a fervent animal activist

00:01:41who had just learned that the wizard was behind their oppression. So after she flies

00:01:45away, she fully commits to her role as their defender.

00:01:48And it sort of becomes this really beautiful, unselfish crusade to help the animals.

00:01:56Act 2's opening number, thank goodness, catches us up on what's happened. Well, at least one

00:02:01version of the story.

00:02:06Number 9. Who was Elphaba's mom's mystery man?

00:02:10And, like every family, they had their secrets.

00:02:16Have another drink, my dark god beauty, I've got one more night left here in town.

00:02:22In the opening number, No One Mourns the Wicked, Glinda tries to garner some compassion for Elphaba.

00:02:28Are people born wicked?

00:02:31Or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?

00:02:36In a flashback to before she was born, we learn that her mother wasn't entirely faithful to her

00:02:41father. Both on stage and in the movie, the identity of this mystery lover remains a secret,

00:02:46though his green elixir likely explains why Elphaba was born green.

00:02:50Like a froggy, ferny cabbage, the baby is unnaturally green.

00:02:56If you haven't yet figured out who he is, all will be revealed near the end of part 2,

00:03:21The last time we saw Shiz's history professor, he was warning his students while being dragged from

00:03:26his classroom. Before that, we saw his efforts to raise awareness about the plight of animals

00:03:31and meeting with colleagues to discuss the something bad happening across Oz.

00:03:35The animals are now being blamed for everything that goes wrong.

00:03:40After he's replaced, the students are shown how the regime plans to use cages to strip animals of

00:03:45their equality. In Act 2, Elphaba returns to the Emerald City to free the flying monkeys,

00:03:51but the wizard intervenes and tries to convince her they'd still make a wonderful team.

00:07:23When you bowed before his throne, he decreed you'd hence be known as Glinda the Good officially.

00:07:32Glinda knows she doesn't deserve it, but remains silent in the face of injustice and lies.

00:07:38While she starts part 2 as Glinda the Good, her story is about truly earning that title.

00:07:44Does the Elphaba, Fierro, and Glinda love triangle develop?

00:07:47We didn't see you there. You must have blended with the foliage.

00:08:01When Fierro first shows up at Chiz, he and Glinda seem like the perfect couple.

00:08:05But as he gets to know Elphaba, he starts seeing the world differently and is strawstruck by her.

00:08:10I see that the responsibility to corrupt my fellow students falls to me.

00:08:15You pretend to be shallow and self-absorbed.

00:08:19Uh, excuse me. There is no pretense here. I happen to be genuinely self-absorbed and deeply shallow.

00:08:41Anyway, Elphaba feels the spark too, but he's dating her bestie, so, you know, awkward.

00:08:47When he comes to see Elphaba off to the Emerald City, even Glinda senses their chemistry.

00:08:52Act 2 opens with a surprise engagement party, where Fierro refuses to let lies about Elphaba slide

00:08:58and makes it his mission to find her.

00:09:00Our hearts soared when they reunited, but we ached for Glinda as she realizes she's not Batgirl.

00:09:06Wishing only moves the heart.

00:09:12No. 3. How does Nessa Rose become the Wicked Witch of the East?

00:09:16That perfectly adorable munchkin boy just asked me out.

00:09:20How does sweet, unassuming Nessa Rose become the tyrannical leader of Munchkinland?

00:09:25Much of this is explored in the song Wicked Witch of the East,

00:09:28which was omitted from the soundtrack for being too content-heavy.

00:09:31We learn that Nessa is resentful of Elphaba for not using her magic to help her.

00:09:35Elphaba does find a way, enchanting her shoes,

00:09:39which explains why she's so obsessed with getting them back from Dorothy later.

00:09:42Give me back my slippers. I am the only one that knows how to use them.

00:09:46They're no use to you. Give them back to me. Give them back.

00:09:50Keep tight inside of them. Their magic must be very powerful,

00:09:53or she wouldn't want them so badly.

00:09:56Meanwhile, Nessa realizes Boxheart isn't tin in their relationship,

00:10:00so she abuses her power to force him to stay.

00:10:03Yet when he decides to pursue Glinda, Nessa tries to cast a love spell,

00:10:07but the results aren't exactly what she had in mind.

00:10:10So for once, I'm glad I'm heartless. I'll be heartless killing her.

00:10:15Number 2. Do Elphaba and Glinda ever reunite?

00:10:19that we will never meet again

00:10:27Yes, they do, but not under the best circumstances.

00:10:30Glinda's fiancé leaves her for Elphaba,

00:10:33and her retaliation is unintentionally crushing.

00:13:05Remember Part 1?

00:13:07Since there's nearly a year between Part 1 and For Good,

00:13:10it makes sense that the new trailer is starting to connect a few dots,

00:13:14especially things we glimpsed in the first movie,

00:13:16or just in the trailers so far.

00:13:18Take that crack in Glinda's window right at the start of the trailer.

00:13:21It tips her off that Elphaba's nearby.

00:13:24Elphaba Throb, I know you're out here.

00:13:27Just come in before the monkeys spot you.

00:13:29Whoa!

00:13:32But how would she know it's her?

00:13:34Remember, we've seen that crack before,

00:13:37and it's pretty much identical.

00:13:39You know, I asked really nicely,

00:14:13you'll know this brings us to our full circle moment.

00:14:16Then there's that shot of Elphaba's hand on the yellow bricks,

00:14:19which has been teased before.

00:14:21Now we know how the famous brick road got its color.

00:14:24Recently, I've gotten a little stuck

00:14:25trying to figure out what color the bricks of that road ought to be.

00:14:28So I jerry-rigged this thing up, which does that.

00:14:34Elphaba, you give that a whirl.

00:14:37Sure.

00:14:37Um, let's try.

00:14:41What about green?

00:14:44Hmm?

00:14:45Um, yellow?

00:14:48Maybe purple?

00:14:49Wait, just go back one, please.

00:14:53The yellow relay?

00:14:54Yes.

00:14:55Huh.

00:14:56It just says road to me.

00:14:58What is it?

00:14:59Huh.

00:15:00And, oh, yellow brick road.

00:15:04I don't know.

00:15:05So we imagine this is when Elphaba first returns to the Emerald City,

00:15:08or perhaps Munchkinland,

00:15:10and sees that at least the wizard was true to his word about something.

00:15:13No one believed in you more than I did.

00:15:18Elphaba.

00:15:18We already know Elphaba and Glinda end up going their separate ways.

00:15:23And while we're not spoiling how or why,

00:15:25their friendship definitely hits a bump in part two.

00:15:28So the moment where we see Elphaba pick up the brochure Glinda gave her

00:15:31before she left for the Emerald City stings just a bit.

00:15:35It's a reminder that no matter what happens,

00:15:37they'll always have a handprint on the other's heart.

00:15:40And the fact that it's followed by a clip of For Good makes it hit even harder.

00:15:43But more on that later.

00:15:51Oh, and that poppy field scene with Elphaba and Glinda.

00:15:56Remember, we've seen that before.

00:15:58Turns out it's part of a longer deleted scene.

00:16:01We still don't know exactly where it fits,

00:16:03but with two new songs written for the film,

00:16:06it's a safe bet it's tied to one of them.

00:16:14Storyline and plot points

00:16:15It will be nearly impossible to keep this part completely spoiler-free,

00:16:20so if you're not familiar with act two of Wicked,

00:16:22you may want to skip ahead.

00:16:25There's no going back.

00:16:26One thing part one did brilliantly

00:16:28was fleshing out some of the stage show's most memorable beats.

00:16:31And it looks like we're getting more of that in For Good,

00:16:34especially in those new shots of Elphaba in the forest.

00:16:37While it might be part of No Good Deed,

00:16:39it also seems like a continuation of what we saw back in her shiz days.

00:16:43Except now, instead of learning magic in the classroom,

00:16:46she's mastering the Grimmery in Exile.

00:16:49Once you learn to harness your emotion,

00:16:54the sky's the limit.

00:16:56It could lead you to the wizard himself.

00:17:00We also know that Elphaba's primary goal was to free the animals.

00:17:04My heart's desire is for you to help the animals.

00:17:08Something bad is happening to them, and they need you.

00:17:11I had a feeling you were going to say that.

00:17:13And I agree wholeheartedly.

00:17:47possibly just released from captivity.

00:17:49Depending on where this falls in the story,

00:17:51there's a chance Glinda's the one who makes it happen

00:17:54as a final tribute to her friend.

00:17:55Or, and hear us out,

00:17:57are those the same pink flowers from Glinda and Fierro's wedding?

00:18:01Perhaps Elphaba does succeed in freeing some animals,

00:18:04and their stampede through the palace

00:18:05is what stops anyone from saying I do.
