Does the absence of America mean consensus will be easier to reach?
00:05
I mean, oh, in other words, how relieved are you that the Americans aren't here?
00:12
As you're aware, the G20 is a consensus-based organization.
00:17
There are negotiations that are ongoing, robust,
00:20
and we are hopeful that we will be able to find each other
00:24
as the countries that are present to adopt the declaration.
00:28
And be able to take the G20 to move forward.
00:34
As to whether it will be easy or not,
00:37
there is emerging kind of consensus within the group.
00:42
But obviously, as you're aware, it's about 19 countries.
00:49
It's not easy.
00:50
There will always be sticking points that have to be ironed out
00:54
during the negotiation process that is unfolding to end tomorrow.
00:57
I mean, if you reach an agreement and a declaration,
01:02
surely it can't be easy to implement that,
01:04
especially when it comes to financing and the global financial infrastructure,
01:08
if you have the richest country in the world looking the other way.
01:13
Are you worried about that,
01:14
that it will be a declaration that's going to go nowhere?
01:16
Yeah, obviously, that's a concern.
01:20
But as you are aware, other institutions of the UN are already paralyzed
01:27
because of this withdrawal of the US in some of the international platforms.
01:33
We think that the G20 should send a clear message
01:35
that the world can move on with or without the US
01:39
and that the implementation will not be easy.
01:43
Obviously, it will not be a walk in the park.
01:46
But when there is global consensus,
01:48
we can be able to find persuasive means to enable the world to function
01:53
and also for the US to be put into a line
01:57
to be able to work with everyone across the globe
01:59
because multilateral platforms is the only way that we can enable the world to function.
02:06
It's not a unilateral platform.
02:09
And this was identified after the Second World War.
02:12
It has saved the world good.
02:14
There is no reason now to move away from the key multilateral platforms
02:20
that have saved the world.
02:21
We are not disappointed.
02:23
We believe that whichever country that can attend
02:26
and it is represented at the right level,
02:29
there is really nothing wrong.
02:31
It's the nature of multilateral institutions.
02:33
It has never even happened in the G20 itself
02:35
that you'll find 100% attendance of heads of states.
02:39
For whatever reasons, sometimes they attend,
02:41
sometimes they don't attend,
02:42
but they ensure that they send a delegation.
02:47
The only difference with this one now
02:49
is the absence of the US, which has never happened.
02:53
But we will mark them absent and continue with the business.
