00:00Melbourne Airport has unveiled a new baggage handling system that has promised a major
00:04reduction in lost luggage while doubling capacity in the T2 International Terminal.
00:12The technology assigns each bag an electronic tag and pairs it to an RFID-enabled tote tray,
00:18allowing airlines to track it from check-in through to loading.
00:24Bags that arrive early are stored automatically until their flight is ready, replacing the
00:29slower manual process that often contributed to misdirected luggage.
00:34Airport officials said the system can process more than 4,000 bags per hour and will allow
00:39passengers to check in much earlier for their flights.
00:45Sydney Airport has also detailed its own upgrades, including a new link between the T2 and T3
00:51terminals and additional swing gates to manage future passenger growth.
