Locked: Gainesway’s New Son of Gun Runner

Gainesway Farm has added a son of Gun Runner to their roster for 2026 in Locked. A TDN Rising Star and a Grade I winner at 2 and 4, Locked will stand for $35,000 in his debut season.

00:00A TDN rising star, Locked quickly justified expectations when he won the Grade 1 Breeders

00:12Futurity at Keeneland for Walnack Farm and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners. He went on

00:17to add three more graded stakes wins to his resume, including the Grade 1 Santa Anita

00:21Handicap, and now the son of Gunrunner is set to begin his stud career at Gainesway Farm.

00:26We started following Locked early in his career. He became on our radar obviously after he won the

00:33Grade 1 Breeders Futurity here at Keeneland, and we were able to purchase his breeding rights right

00:36before the juvenile that year. The horse had tremendous ability and showed it time and again

00:42on the track, only finishing off the board in one of 11 starts. Locked won his second start at Saratoga

00:48with a 96 buyer, which was the co-fastest buyer ever for a colt breaking his maiden up there in

00:53the last 15 plus years, earned him TDN rising star status, and then being able to carry it over

00:59and win the Grade 1 in his next start down at Keeneland. Locked had to miss some time early in

01:04his three-year-old year, but he came back really successful. We put him in a seven furlong allowance

01:08race in New York, and he won that in 121 flat. He followed that up with a win in the Cigar Mile,

01:13where he beat older horses and beat three other Grade 1 winners in that race. And then this year at four,

01:18he won the Grade 1 Santa Anita handicap in a record setting eight and a half lengths, ran a 109 buyer.

01:24Cruising home to an effortless eight-length romp! Then came to Canesway retiring off a nice win in

01:30the Grade 2 Woodward Stakes. We're very excited to have a son of Gunrunner. You know, there's only two

01:36sons standing at stud that are Grade 1 winners at two, Gun Knight and now Locked. So we're excited to have

01:42a horse that had early precocity and could carry it a distance as he got older. Locked physically has a lot of

01:47the attributes that his father has. He's a very sleek horse. He has a very free-flowing walk,

01:52nice big shoulder, pretty head. I think breeders are going to be really impressed when they come and inspect him.
