The search and rescue (SAR) operation for the capsized boat carrying undocumented migrants in Malaysian-Thai border waters was called off on Monday (Nov 17) after nine days, covering a search area of 1,745.88 nautical square miles.

00:00The search and rescue operation for the capsized boat, carrying undocumented migrants in the waters near the Malaysian-Thai border, was called off on Monday.
00:11The operation lasted for nine days, covering a search area of some 1,745 nautical square miles.
00:19Kerida and Perlis Maritime Deputy Director for Operations, Captain Zainuddin Mohammad Zuki, said the operation ended at 6.30 p.m. after a final assessment found no new leads besides factoring in weather and risk considerations.
00:34He said the Malaysian side found a total of 43 victims, comprising 14 survivors and 29 deceased around locations like Pulau Singa Besar, Pulau Rebak Besar and Telukapau.
00:48He said all the victims had been handed over to the police for identification and further action.
00:53He said if there are any new discoveries or leads, authorities will review the situation and reactivate the operation to locate more victims.
01:02Cumulatively, the Malaysian and Thai authorities found 36 bodies during their respective operations.
