00:00Pig Farms Royal Decree Political Hit
00:02Oh my god!
00:03What is going on in Selangor?
00:054 years, resident in Tanjung Sepad have complained about order and waste from nearby pig farms.
00:11They have raised concerns about river pollution, environmental damage and public health risk.
00:17In Januari 2022, the Selangor government said,
00:20We are not expanding pig farming but we are modernising it.
00:24Officials said pig numbers had already dropped from around 250,000 to about 100,000
00:31and no new license will be issued.
00:34But then, everything shifted.
00:36On Januari 13, the Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ordered pig farms in Tanjung Sepad to be phased out.
00:43He also called for a proper study on pork demand and said,
00:47any future operations must follow strict laws with no state funds involved.
00:51Then, on February 10, his stance became even clearer.
00:55Pig farming should not be approved anywhere in Selangor, citing land limitations and environmental suitability.
01:03He suggested imports could meet demand instead.
01:06Days later, the Bukit Tagar project was halted.
01:09Farms are now being gradually shut down.
01:12Active operations have reportedly dropped from about 115 to just over 30.
01:18But here is where it gets complicated.
01:21Some say this is about protecting land, environment and public health in a densely populated state.
01:27Others argue it affects livelihoods, food security and consumer prices, especially in the Klang Valley.
01:36Online, the debate has turned emotional.
01:39Some netizens claim non-Muslims are increasingly pressured to align with Islamic values.
01:45Others push back, saying Malaysia's social contract and privileges should also be acknowledged.
01:52So, this is not just about livestock, it's about governance, land use, religion, economics and what balance looks like in
02:02a diverse state like Selangor.
02:05And right now, the policy direction is clear but the long-term outcome is still unfolding.
