00:00So my house was built about 500 years ago. A little while back when you're clearing up these
00:04bookshelves, I noticed that the wall behind was actually hollow. First thing I'm going to do is
00:07clear off all of these books. This bookshelf comes off really easily. Now this is all done I can see
00:12that there are actually some screws I need to take out now. This man had no idea of the treasure he
00:17was about to discover. Got myself a massive light now and we're going to try and go through this
00:21hole. So there's a room in there, a room down here. I was searching around and I found all these like
00:25old books. I've actually found an old safe. Excited after finding this hidden safe, he realized he
00:31needed someone to open. He's got his blowtorch, he's got all these tools, we're going to see if we can
00:35get it open. So someone's already cut off the door handle to this safe so we're just going to give
00:40it a go with some pliers. So Jack's going to have a go drilling through this keyhole right here.
00:50So we found this on the back, it just makes me want to open it even more. Seems like we're making
00:55some progress. So we've actually just broken the end off one of the pieces. So this is going to be
01:02our last attempt today with this blowtorch. See how it goes.
01:08Overwhelming force wasn't working so we needed another plan. So this door in the corner of the
01:13room has actually been blocked off and contains all the keys to the house. Some have tags to the
01:18doors that they actually open but some don't and we've never actually figured out what they open.
01:22So we're back underground with the safe and we're going to try out these keys. Nope, nope, nope. Doesn't
01:27even fit. Final key and it didn't work. So our backup plan is a jackhammer. So some pots are solid and
01:34others are hollow.
01:39So we've made it through the first layer.
01:41So we've made the hole wider, it's about the same size as my finger and there's another layer below it
01:46annoyingly. They'd made good progress on the safe but they needed to bring it outside to finish the
01:51job. So we've got Jack here in the full protective gear ready to cut open the safe.
01:59So we've made it through the first hinge.
02:01It didn't open because there must be a bolt through the back but we're trying to go through
02:05the back of the safe now. We've checked and it isn't asbestos.
02:08It's about three inches thick. We finally made it through. We finally cut through the bolt.
02:14This was it. They were finally in. What is that?
02:17First off here are a few books that I found. This one was tucked right at the back and dates back to
02:221848. They both contain lots of information on the house.
02:26So this is actually a piece of floorboarding. This thought here was actually the Earl of Galloway.
02:29It then goes on to say the name of our house and then the date at 1807.
02:33So in the lockbox we didn't find anything of huge monetary value but we did find these old letters.
02:37So I actually sent this letter off to be analysed. So this letter was written while he was visiting
02:42my house. It was addressed to his estate that you can see in the photo, Castle Ashby.
02:46In the letter he writes that he's fallen very ill during his travels and for his land agent to
02:51look after his estate. Here you can see the postal stamp dated 1837.
02:55The original owner would be worth billions of dollars in today's money.
02:58Does your house have any cool history?
