00:39Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Ana Marrero from the Telesur headquarters in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:44We'll be with the news. Stay with us.
00:53The people of Venezuela mobilized in the context of sorting in of the integral Bolivarian basic
01:04communists with the aim of consolidating national sovereignty and peace in the country.
01:09During Saturday's event, several political leaders from Venezuela led the mobilization
01:14in the state of La Guayra to reform the work of the Bolivarian Committee. During the event,
01:19President Nicolás Maduro highlighted the commitment of the people. This was in Petare who marched
01:26to demonstrate their democratic commitment to Venezuela and their rejection of the threatening
01:31military movements of U.S. military forces in Trinidad and Tobago.
01:35The government of Trinidad and Tobago has again announced irresponsible exercises,
01:50leading the waters off the coast of the state of Sucre for military exercises that threaten a republic
01:59like Venezuela, which does not allow itself to be threatened by anyone. They say they are
02:05will do it from Monday to Thursday. Well, the people of Trinidad and Tobago will see if they
02:12continue to bear, that they use their waters and their land to gravelly threaten the peace of the
02:20Caribbean. I only call once again all the people of the eastern state. From the south of Bolivar, Delta
02:30Makuro, Monagas, Sucre, Anzuategui, Nueva Esparta, in perfect popular military police fusion, to establish a vigil and a permanent march on the street with the flag of Venezuela in the air. The great vigil and the great march of the flag. I call you from Caracas.
02:49The president ordered a bold day to convene. Look, you have to be bold to convene in the middle of the war, the basis of the party to make decisions, to organize the structure to face any enemy, that we're able to unfold our mission of winning an election to protect the homeland and the Bolivarian revolution. And who did President Nicolás Maduro trust in the
03:19people in the basis of our people to make the decisions that correspond? And also Venezuela's Vice President Leslie Rodriguez from Carabobo state emphasized that the United Socialist Party of Venezuela has defend and will continue to defend the country against aggressions by the U.S.
03:38This party, which is only 18 years old, has taught historical lessons to the peoples of the world because when they wanted to strike a coup here, when they wanted to invade Venezuela, when they wanted to impose a false puppet government, it was the Socialist United Party of Venezuela who came out as a powerful political organization to defend Venezuela.
04:06It was the Socialist United Party of Venezuela who faced the criminal economic war against our people. Nobody went to hide here. The party was there, on the street, in the community, in the commune, in the communal circuits. The party was there, sticking its chest out.
04:25Here we are, the Venezuelans of good. Nothing is going to defeat us. And it was the Socialist United Party of Venezuela who also had to defend territorial integrity in the Battle of the Bridge when they went to the south, when they went to Tachira.
04:42And they went to what? To prevent the invasion of Venezuela. This party was there. Well, this party today, from today, is being rethought, is being reinvented, is being restructured, is being reorganized to make the great change that Venezuela needs today.
05:01A collision on Friday in San Jose, Costa Rica, between a heavy vehicle and a train that runs between the capital and the north coast, the Rican city of Heredia and Alejuela, left 12 people injured.
05:20The National Bull Red Cross determined that 11 of those injured in the accident in the capital neighborhood of Tivas are in stable conditions and one is urgent condition.
05:31And on Friday in Mexico, law enforcement officers arrest nine members of a criminal cell in the state of Alisco and seized 508 kilograms of crystal meth and 2.8 tons of marijuana.
05:50Agents executed five search warrants in Tunela with the aim of dismantling this group, which is accused of modifying industrial machinery for the transport of drugs.
06:04Let's take a very short break, but remember, you can join us on our Tiktar account at Celeste English, where you'll be able to see news in different formats, news updates and more.
06:20We'll be right back. Stay with us.
06:21Welcome back to From the South.
06:39Today was a busy day at the COP30, and it is host city of Belen, where social movements and indigenous peoples hold parallel events.
06:49Here are correspondents and brand mirrors with a run-up of today's activities.
06:56Day six of COP30 is coming to a close, and there is a lot of things going on today.
07:01First of all, there was a massive street protest held by the People's Summit for Climate Change,
07:07which is an alternative event with thousands of participants from indigenous nations, riverine community associations,
07:14kilombola residents, and social movements.
07:17They took to the streets to demand better, more sovereignty for indigenous lands, a returning of indigenous lands to their people.
07:28Fighting against illegal logging and mining on indigenous reserves, there is a group representing urban slum dwellers,
07:36social movements like the MNLM and the UNMP, demanding more funding for adaptation in peripheral areas of cities in the Global South.
07:47These are the people, they say, who are most damaged by climate change disasters,
07:51and they need funding to, governments need to actively fund adaptability for these neighborhoods,
07:58including relocating people from at-risk areas of landslides and floods.
08:03Then the final theme of the march was for socialism.
08:08It's called Internationalism and Solidarity with the Peoples.
08:11The argument is that climate change is a direct result of capitalism.
08:15The only way to combat it and to save what's left of the world's environment is through structural change to socialism.
08:22Meanwhile, across town, Brazil's indigenous rights minister inside the blue zone of the COP30 announced a new international commission
08:30made up of indigenous leaders from around the world that's demanding a more active role in all of the actions that the UN is taking to fight climate change.
08:38So there's a lot going on. There's going to be a lot going on tomorrow.
08:41Stay tuned to tell Sir English, and I'll have more tomorrow morning.
08:44And United Kingdom report damage and flooding due to storm cloudia in Wales.
08:51Authorities report that several roads were affected, obstructing traffic and pedestrians.
08:58They also emphasize that they continue to monitor the effects of the storm in vulnerable areas of the city.
09:04We go to Argentina.
09:12The Ministry of Health of the province of Buenos Aires report that the people injured by the explosion in Aziza are out of danger.
09:19The Health Authority report that of the people who were injured, six are recovering well and two remain in stable conditions without complications.
09:28Also, clinics and hospitals in Buenos Aires report 15 people with minor injuries due to the explosion.
09:41One of the indigenous communities most affected by the conflict and historical neglect of various states in Colombia
09:47received 466 tiers of land, which represents progress in the reinstitution of territorial rights and autonomy.
09:55Our colleague Hernando Bar with the details.
10:01With the indigenous rhythms of the Zen culture of the Colombian-Caribbean coast, in the Department of Ciudad Oba,
10:08the handover of 466 hectares of land granted to this indigenous community
10:12was celebrated in a real commitment that represents progress in the restitution of territorial rights being promoted by the current Colombian government.
10:19For me, the transfer of land is very important because, as indigenous people,
10:29it is a place where we can cultivate our own land and take ownership of it,
10:34thus enhancing our quality of life and improving employment opportunities.
10:38It is very important for us because the economy improves in indigenous areas.
10:42This allocation of land consolidates a process of expanding the Zenu indigenous reserve,
10:49one of the largest in the country, which spans more than 10 municipalities in the departments of Sucur,
10:55and Ciudad Oba, an indigenous community that has suffered the effects of conflict,
10:59added to historical neglect by the state.
11:01No agrarian reform has ever been carried out in the world that has delivered 1 million hectares to the peasantry.
11:16We are currently carrying out the largest agrarian reform in the world.
11:20The press does not say so, but it must be said and repeated over and over again,
11:26reaching the figure of 1 million, and I want to exceed that in the months that remain.
11:30Hopefully, we can accelerate the delivery mechanism, which is still more difficult.
11:38The conflicts in these lands have left deep scars on the Zenu indigenous community,
11:43affecting the violation of collective and territorial rights, the loss of leaders, displacement,
11:48the impact on their cultural identity, and stigmatization.
11:51This community has had to face conflicts arising from extractive mining on their lands.
11:56This new stage in their lives promises them a prosperous future.
12:00Part of the violence that this people experienced for more than 40 years,
12:08was precisely due to the struggle,
12:11and the blood shed by our leaders in recovering an ancestral territory that was ours.
12:19How can we forget H. Kittermalo, Porfirio Ayala, Arturo Lucas, and Cesar Mesa?
12:32Victims in the Patio Benito Massacre in March 1994?
12:36Blood was spilled here, as you have told us,
12:47Cacique, of men and surely, also women who gave their lives,
12:52these men and women, and for their lives,
12:55this government, and I know that this people will not keep even a minute of silence.
13:00We will not keep silent, nor will we be silenced,
13:05not for our dead, nor for the future of our children.
13:09We will fight the war, we will face the threats,
13:11and after this government, we will continue to push for agrarian reform,
13:16and the recognition of the Zen people.
13:18This delivery is in addition to those already made to the R. Huaco, NASA, and Wahyu indigenous people.
13:24In just over three years, the National Land Agency has delivered 110,000 hectares to ethnic communities,
13:30restoring their dignity and guaranteeing the territorial rights of indigenous peoples.
