00:00Today was a busy day at the COP30, and it is Haas City of Belen, where social movements and indigenous peoples hold parallel events.
00:10Here are correspondent brand mirrors with a run-up of today's activities.
00:17Day 6 of COP30 is coming to a close, and there's a lot of things going on today.
00:22First of all, there was a massive street protest held by the People's Summit for Climate Change,
00:28which was an alternative event with thousands of participants from indigenous nations, riverine community associations,
00:36kilombola residents, and social movements.
00:38They took to the streets to demand better, more sovereignty for indigenous lands,
00:45a returning of indigenous lands to their people, fighting against illegal logging and mining on indigenous reserves.
00:53There is a group representing urban slum dwellers, social movements like the MNLM and the UNMP,
01:02demanding more funding for adaptation in peripheral areas of cities in the Global South.
01:08These are the people, they say, who are most damaged by climate change disasters,
01:11and they need funding to, governments need to actively fund adaptability for these neighborhoods,
01:19including relocating people from at-risk areas of landslides and floods.
01:24Then the final theme of the march was for socialism.
01:28It was called Internationalism and Solidarity with the Peoples.
01:31The argument is that climate change is a direct result of capitalism.
01:35The only way to combat it and to save what's left of the world's environment is through structural change to socialism.
01:43Meanwhile, across town, Brazil's indigenous rights minister inside the blue zone of the COP30
01:48announced a new international commission made up of indigenous leaders from around the world
01:53that's demanding a more active role in all of the actions that the UN is taking to fight climate change.
01:59So there's a lot going on.
02:00There's going to be a lot going on tomorrow.
02:01Stay tuned to Tell Sir English, and I'll have more tomorrow morning.
