US Venezuela Conflict: Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino firmly rejected claims that Panama is enabling any hostile U.S. military activity against Venezuela, stressing that American troop training on Panamanian soil is strictly part of a bilateral security protocol. Speaking in Panama City, Mulino clarified that exercises in Darién and Fort Sherman are authorised by the Ministry of Security and have “nothing to do” with tensions surrounding Washington’s pressure on Caracas. He insisted there is “no unauthorized military presence” in the country and that Panama will not allow its territory to be used for actions against Venezuela or any other nation. The president also urged respect ahead of Panama’s football match in Guatemala, condemning recent aggression toward the national team.

00:00I don't know if it's part of Operation Panamax or the agreements that have been made, but
00:05it does coincide with all these moments of tension that are occurring, the pressure that
00:09the United States is exerting against Venezuela over the issue of drug trafficking.
00:17You mentioned the frontal fight against drug trafficking and what I would like to know
00:20is if Panama is cooperating in some way, either by having the ships here in Panama or by cooperating
00:26with the United States and that fight or that cause that it has with Venezuela.
00:30Those are two different issues.
00:38The exercises that are agreed to be done with military units from the United States are a
00:43protocol that is authorized by the Ministry of Security, not only in Darien, but in Fort
00:48Sherman, which is a suitable place, very suitable for that type of training.
00:54There is no type of military presence there that is not authorized by Panama in an area where
00:59we understand that it should be suitable, very suitable for training its military forces.
01:07Regarding Venezuela, we have nothing to do with that.
01:11Neither is Panama lending its territory for any type of hostile act against Venezuela or any
01:16other country in the world.
01:17In other words, one thing has nothing to do with the other.
01:21In the meantime, we continue cooperating.
01:24If Panama does not lend its territory to other security institutions, as is done with Panamax,
01:30which come from everywhere, it is very important.
01:33It is very important.
01:34And there is the canal, I mean, there is also the canal in between, which is an entity that
01:39must be saved and comprehensively protected by all the police and military forces of the world.
01:44I also want to send the best vibes to our country today.
01:52I hope everything goes well.
01:58As a Panamanian, I repudiate aggression and the uncivilized.
02:02Way of attacking because it is an attack on a rival team, but in sports, not everyone is
02:12on the same side.
02:17There are teammates, just as there are rivals.
02:21And Panama has always been a very respectful team.
02:25Our country has been extremely respectful when all the teams from all over come.
02:29Even in the most bitter games we have had, Panama rises to the occasion.
02:36I hope that Guatemala and its fans know how to behave today against our national team and
02:42that Peru wins in Guatemala.
02:59I hope that my brother is back to the Anda and food.
