00:00Ten ACT schools have been closed and another ten partially shut after
00:05decorative coloured sand used in classrooms was found to contain traces
00:09of chrysotile asbestos. The contaminated sand had been used for sensory play and
00:15arts and crafts, prompting immediate concern from the ACT Education
00:20Directorate. WorkSafe ACT assessed the exposure risk as low, although closures
00:27were ordered so testing and remediation could begin without delay. Several
00:33Canberra schools including Black Mountain School, Campbell Primary School and
00:37Charles Weston School were fully closed. For the full list of affected schools and
00:43more on the story, visit the Canberra Times.
