00:00More schools are set to reopen across Canberra tomorrow after the presence of asbestos-contaminated coloured play sand saw 70 public schools closed on Monday.
00:1125 schools remain closed in the ACT today as work continued to safely remove the sand products from classrooms.
00:19Many other schools have only been partially open.
00:22Licensed asbestos contractors have gradually been making the way through each school with at least another seven set to fully reopen on Wednesday.
00:31So far the ACT is the only jurisdiction in the country to close government schools.
00:36The Territory's Education Minister Yvette Berry says staff are working around the clock to ensure schools can reopen.
00:43Our legislation as I said is quite rigorous and so we are using back best practice by applying our legislation here in the ACT
00:51in the best possible way to ensure that we remove the risk regardless of how small the risk is.
00:58I actually had a call this morning from the Minister for Education in Tasmania just to touch base with us here
01:05noting that they're starting to go through some school closures down there.
01:09We've offered through the Education Directorate and the Director General here to provide all of the information and advice that we have

01:19Another update is expected this evening when it will become clearer if more schools can reopen tomorrow
