00:00The honor of uncovering this future legend this parachute bit of a reference to that we saw in our opening sequence.
00:19Well, there it is. Here it is.
00:22Look at this new legend in the making.
00:25This red fabulous, isn't it? You work beautifully.
00:30So can you tell us about the GTI badge that we can see here?
00:33We're all very excited. It must be said, well, that's right.
00:37GTI once again, it's not just the past, but also a recontrol of the GTI badge that we have before us.
00:43The first electric GTI. Yes, it is electric.
00:48We're very proud to have that technology on board on this car, which will offer the best compromise between sportiness and enthusiasm.
00:55Payo has always taken pleasure seriously and the proof is in the pudding here.
01:04The car has been put together very seriously, very professionally.
01:08It's a sporty car, but it's not ostentatious and that is what really is true to the GTI badge at PET.
01:14That's right. We have a look at the design in just a moment with Matthias, but on this elegant design and modest, I think you would agree modest design, but there hides a 208 GTI with best performance in its category.
01:26Isn't that right? That's right.
01:28Driving pleasure, as I say, it's a constant both for the driver and for the passenger or passengers with an internal interior experience, which is incomparable.
01:38Matthias will tell you more in just a moment that 208 GTI is pleasure and performance.
01:43We have a 350 kilometers battery range with a battery 54 kilowatts hour.
01:48So I think we got the best compromise between performance on one hand and pleasure on the other.
01:53And really this results from a long-standing work, very business, very professional work and John Marquino's a sure hand.
02:05We're here from him in a minute. Fabulous result. Yeah, you can be very proud.
02:09Thanks very much Alan for this overall overview of 208 GTI.
02:13You'll be back for the concluding remarks.
02:15Now we can look at the details of the car's performance.
02:18Let's welcome head of Stellantis Motorsport Gene McFino.
02:23Hello, John Mark.
02:28So, we want to know everything about its engine, its technical performance of this fabulous car.
02:34But first off, tell us what was your contribution throughout this entire process.
02:38You love our cars and you've got vast experience under your belt.
02:42Yes, Sandy, thank you.
02:43A hello to one and all.
02:44Yeah, for me it's an emotional experience.
02:47I was recruited a few years back, four or five years back.
02:50That's right.
02:51Well, I had to look out the chassis of the 205 GTR and the in the dream began and it's flowing into the in the car that we can see here and at this event.
03:00So, the build of the bridge if you like between racing cars and mass produced cars, well, it's the same you know because we got the same teams.
03:11So, all the experience that we get in the races and we see in Riley Sport, well, they find their way into the in this 208 GTI.
03:17So, it's great.
03:21It's got 280 horsepower torque of 345 Nm.
03:26So, we're really top-notch performance-wise.
03:29We got 5.7 kilos per horsepower.
03:34It's double the power-wise that the 205 GTI was doing.
03:38All right, so they're all very similar, aren't they?
03:51205 and 208,208 is well just look at look at the um look at look what we got here.
03:56156 horsepower e 208 not 16 8.1 seconds and you know it's just it's just fabulous the 208 goal exceptional performance in its segment and also we've got a series of modifications that's right things have changed.
04:09We wanted to get the track width widened reproducing the previous its previous iteration so we want to make sure that that came in.
04:15We optimized the track width as I said you can see that here on the profile but this contributes to aerodynamics and stability.
04:23And aerodynamics.
04:26So, the 30mm, for example, that we saw it on was very important.
04:32And everything to do with effectiveness, agility, stability, we find everything in in there with other 205 GTI.
04:40But now with the 208 GTI, we got additional improvements.
04:44What about the brakes?
04:46It accelerates well, but presumably you have to brake.
04:48That's right.
04:50And so we've got 355mm disc brakes, front brakes, 4 piston calipers.
04:55It accelerates beautifully and it brakes beautifully.
04:58It's a real sporty model, right?
05:00There's nothing artificial about the 208 GTI.
05:03No, no, absolutely nothing.
05:06This is a car which is finely tuned, homed and there's no compromise if you like the tuning that is done by the engineers.
05:12We can see them on the wheels.
05:15On the 205 GTI we had big wheels 15 inches in the day.
05:19Now it's 18 inches as a standard.
05:21And you can also see the headlights and the wheels of course to remind Vakadeva of the 205 GTI basically with brake cooling and the energy management is also reminds you of the racing models.
05:37Such a fabulous battery, long durability for having performance longest time possible.
05:42So this thermal management is something that we see with the slip differential for example and energy management.
05:53It's basically the same teams that worked on the 3008 and the 205 GTI.
05:58Thanks very much for all that information, this technical information.
06:02You will be staying with us for interviews and good luck for the weekend.
06:05All the best.
06:06Thank you very much.
06:07Thank you very much.
06:24Engine Mattis, head of design for real enthusiast source inspiration, yes, grew up in the 80s.
06:36I was in the whole GTI culture and that culture is fun and performance but also sporting charisma that is truly authentic that philosophy is expressed through ingredients that are both subtle and also highly effective ingredients.
06:55They've got a common denominator, a harmony between real sporting expressiveness as we saw with jean but also without excess but with elegance and subtlety.
07:03And of course the top level performance of course of course of course.
07:11Now in terms of design our role was to magnify those GTI codes but with a modern reinterpretation the idea was not to do back to the future thing.
07:20There's no backward looking approach.
07:22We are trying to find the right alliance between heritage and innovation.
07:26I talked about sobriety meant assuming that without art of ostentation with real expression of sporting nature and that means you can see in the posture.
07:36In fact John Mark talked about we making it shorter by 30 millimeters and wider tires and wheels by 56 millimeters and 27 in the front and 56 in the back.
07:45And what we wanted to do is to subline that posture through these 18 inch wheels rims which for those who know are a nodal 205DT is.
07:57So we can see a front that's really muscular.
08:04Yes, indeed.
08:06But that front view once again is both muscular but also very determined, distinctive but again without arrogance almost like a smile.
08:13And there is something that is hard to overlook is red when we talk GTI somewhere.
08:21We thought that would actually be really important.
08:23We can see red coming around.
08:26It's sort of a common thread around the bodywork in the front facade where the wheels are and underneath the spoiler as well.
08:34You'll find that red again with the GTI badge as well and it's really bright and that we call neon red.
08:39Now we looked at this now we really want us to have a look at the interior as well.
08:45Lots of details.
08:47Yes, indeed when we're talking about the interior it's it's hard we can't talk about talking about a cockpit and that little steering wheel and there's a little bit of pleasure in this.
08:55That's what it all means.
08:57In fact, what we wanted to do is to magnify sporting codes.
09:09Perforated leathering very important.
09:38And in seats you see that dual material Alcantara rather specific M in fact that will be you'll find in the 205s again that red stripe that you'll find once again in these seats.
09:48Yes, again, it's a sporting sports car but it's extremely comfortable inside a carpet as well as red and super flash as well flashy day carpet M as soon as door to find that carpet.
09:57And I'm thinking of these simple gestures very memorize and remember the universe of the GTI.
10:02That's the whole idea of the philosophy of GTI that we wanted to this new 208 summer.
10:06It's an ultimate pleasure at level indeed.
10:08Gen fun design.
10:09G in the very end silly.
10:10Thank you inside and outside.
10:12Thank you.
10:12And of course we want to get behind the wheel of this high performance.
10:15Godwell drivers 934 hours.
10:17I understood that in fact it's very important for you.
10:47Yeah.
10:57Good afternoon everyone.
10:59Thank you for being here.
11:00Yeah, it is.
11:01The 205 is the same age as me um next year when it comes.
11:04But you know, I grew up around the car industry.
11:07My father was a car dealer.
11:08So the 205 was very much a part of that.
11:11When I was one years old, it was iconic.
11:13And you just love what they were about.
11:15It's passion.
11:16It was nice to see them.
11:18Nice to see the pictures of them coming back and what it means.
11:21And I think it's just an iconic bit of the brand.
11:24I think it must continue.
11:25It must go on.
11:26Uh, and I'm very excited about what we see.
11:28So, what do you like about it?
11:30What do you like the most about it?
11:31This one?
11:32Well, I think in this current B where the car is, um, you know, the 208 is such a special car.
11:38But when you see and when you see how the car actually looks itself, it brings the sport back to what it is.
11:44It brings elegance at the same time.
11:46And I think most importantly, it gives a bit of performance if you need to happen because ultimately that's what I'm about.
11:51I'm sure when people see the GTI brand as well, that's what they want.
11:55Um, and I just love to see that.
11:57Um, it's very special and to see it in person, it looks even better than it does in pictures, which I think is key.
12:02Would you like to have one in your garage at home?
12:09S-C-E-K-2-Verre-Ravenier-Entendu?
12:12Vielen Dank.
12:42Vielen Dank.
13:12You're absolutely right, we're legal to see it on the road, stay with us, thank you
