00:00Two analysts have played down the defection of former Sabah PKR Secretary Sazali Donal Abdullah Tuwarisan,
00:06saying the move is nothing to shout about.
00:09University Malaysia Sabah's Lee Kwok Tiong and Awang Azman Paui of University Malaya said
00:14Sazali's departure was a minor loss for PKR, particularly since he lost both his party posts earlier this year.
00:22Sazali was Sabah PKR's secretary until he lost his position as Kota Marudu Division Chief during party elections in April.
00:30Lee said PKR would have suffered a major blow only if Sazali had strong grassroots support or was a major vote-getter,
00:37but the party's divisional poll results suggested otherwise.
00:42Awang Azman said Sazali's record at elections has been poor,
00:45losing the Matugong state seat twice by 1,687 votes in 2018,
00:51and 2,689 votes in 2020 when he came out third best.
00:57He added that although Sazali may have the background and experience,
01:01his PKR election defeat showed he lacked influence in his original party.
