From Liverpool Street Station delays to DLR issues.
Transcript
00:00Plans to transform Liverpool Street Station have been delayed again after the organisation behind the redevelopment added further details to the application.
00:13Network Rail's plan to partially demolish Britain's busiest station and build a multi-storey tower above a neighbouring Grade 2 listed form hotel was due to be decided by the City of London Corporation by the end of the year.
00:32Now, the proposal was previously branded a huge and unnecessary waste of resources by conservationists who said it was likely to be redundant on completion.
00:47Network Rail has said it remained committed to the proposal and additional details would be available to view on the planning register.
00:57An original planning application was filed in May of 2023, but it received more than 2,000 objections from local residents and the public, Westminster Council and Historic England as well.
01:12Stockland's light railway trains, also known as the DLR, introduced just six weeks ago, have already been withdrawn after it emerged the brakes were not working properly.
01:23One of the new automated B2-3 trains overshot a platform, leading to three services being removed.
01:33Engineers were analysing what the specific root of the cause of the incident was, and that's according to Transport for London.
01:43The trains, which were due to be introduced in April of 2024, started appearing early in October of this year.
01:52Scott Haxton, TfL's Director of Capital Delivery Infrastructure, said there's been no injuries or any negative impacts to our customers.
02:03It was an isolated incident, and the timetable is operating now as it was.
02:10And finally, proposed changes to make electric vehicles pay the congestion charge would cause minicab fares to rise and stop people switching away from diesel and petrol.
02:22Drivers say that the plan is for owners of electric vehicles to pay the drive in the capital's congestion charging zone from next year onwards.
02:34London's congestion charge is due to increase by 20% to £18 a day from the 2nd of January.
02:42Electric cars and vans had been exempt from paying the fee under a cleaner vehicle discount, but that will be scrapped from 2026.
02:53Transport for London says that the changes are necessary to reduce congestion in the capital.
