Bank Station, paired with Monument, is one of London's busiest and most complex transport

hubs. It first opened in 1900 on the Northern Line, and later that year the Central Line

joined it. Over time, more lines were added and tunnels were linked to allow interchange.

Because it sits directly beneath Bank Junction, where many of the city's major roads meet,

the station had to be built entirely underground, with sharply curving tunnels to avoid key landmarks

like the Bank of England. In 2023, a huge £700m upgrade was completed, adding a new entrance

on Cannon Street, lifts, escalators and wider passageways, boosting capacity by 40%.
