00:00An Albatisi Bishop carrying 5,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid arrives in Santiago de Cuba
00:10to provide relief for the eastern regions affected by the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
00:15Menos Alba intensifies the deployment of Independence 200 plan with a progressive
00:24start of command, control and communication exercises at the national level.
00:33And the death toll from a car bomb explosion that occurred on Monday near the Red Fort in
00:38the Indian city of New Delhi has risen to 13.
00:48Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:50I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:53We begin with the news.
01:06In the early hours of the morning of November 11th, the Alba ship Manuel Gual arrived in
01:11Santiago de Cuba carrying a load of 5,000 tonnes of various supplies distributed in 102 containers.
01:19Cuban and Venezuelan authorities oversaw the delivery of this ship, the second sent by Alba
01:25TCP.
01:26The supplies transported include drinking water, basic household items, food, medicines, clothing
01:32and toys, water storage tanks and also electrical equipment.
01:38This shipment supplements previous aid of 26 tonnes of humanitarian supplies sent by the
01:44Venezuelan government to those affected by Hurricane Melissa in the eastern region of Cuba.
01:49In addition, this gesture of solidarity joins other regional initiatives including the shipment
01:55of more than 240 tonnes of food, drinking water and fuel by the Colombian government.
02:01In eastern Cuba, more than 93,000 homes, 1,500 schools and 80,000 hectares of crops
02:08were affected by Hurricane Melissa.
02:18In this context, the first Secretary of the Provincial Communist Party in Santiago de Cuba expressed her
02:24gratitude for the solidarity of the Venezuelan people in the face of the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa.
02:29Hurricane Melissa has been severe, and we are still assessing the serious economic damage
02:41it has caused and its impact on road structures, homes, and, of course, the entire national power
02:47grid, power lines, and communications.
02:50Here, too, we are receiving assistance from the people of Venezuela.
02:55Yesterday, we were very pleased to welcome the engineers who are helping us identify the bridges
03:00that need repair, for which we obviously need their collaboration.
03:05We also assessed all the damage and possible solutions to these problems.
03:14Precisely in this context, Venezuelan authorities who recently arrived in Santiago de Cuba
03:20conducted an aerial survey diagnosing severe damage to road infrastructure and homes following Hurricane Melissa.
03:27The fundamental purpose of this Venezuelan technical mission is to provide specialized
03:32assistance in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of road and bridge infrastructure in the areas
03:38most affected by the weather phenomenon.
03:40Among the experts who make up the brigade are bridge specialists, civil engineering,
03:46road maintenance experts, road work technicians, and communication route specialists.
03:52This gesture of solidarity reaffirms the strategic and fraternal nature of relations
03:57between Cuba and Venezuela based on mutual cooperation and the exchange of knowledge.
04:02We go to Mexico. The Secretariat for Integrated Rescue Management and Civil Protection
04:14of the country activated the Orange Alert after low temperatures in at least the six districts of the
04:20capital city. In a statement, the agency specified that low temperatures could drop between six and three
04:27degrees Celsius, and it also warned that approximately 12 municipalities could be affected,
04:32including Alvaro Obregón, Xochimilco, and Miguel Hidalgo.
04:36The authorities recommended that the population wear at least the three layers of clothing,
04:42preferably cotton or wool, whose creams to moisturize the skin against the cold,
04:49and also avoid exposure to sudden changes in temperature.
04:52Meanwhile, in the United States, the National Weather Service issued a winter weather adversary due
05:06to a drop in temperatures caused by the impact of snowstorms. The polar cold is advancing from
05:12the northern plains, where temperatures are dropping considerably, and a decrease is expected in much of
05:17the southern part of the country. The winter storm warning issued by the Meteorological Agency will
05:23remain in effect until Monday night in northern Illinois, an area where snow accumulations of up to
05:3145 centimetres and wind gusts of up to 48 kilometres per hour are forecast. A study is also warned that travel
05:39conditions will be extremely dangerous due to poor visibility and slippery roads.
05:52The debates continue among international delegations at COP30 with an agenda focused on ways to help
06:11vulnerable populations in the face of climate change. In this climate summit, delegates are analysing
06:17different strategies to assess the vulnerable populations in the face of natural phenomena,
06:23such as typhoons and cyclones. Meanwhile, adaptation proposals relating to climate finance,
06:29bioeconomy, artificial intelligence and circular economy are moving forward. On this second day,
06:36an Artificial Intelligence Institute for Climate will be presented, which seeks to incorporate
06:42the largest innovations in the sector. In the framework of COP30 in Brazil, some of the delegates have stated
06:55their opinions on the event and the priorities for their countries. Let's see some of the testimonies.
07:01COP30 is going well, actually. It started well quite and the priorities it is including of enhancing just transition,
07:13strengthening the implementation of climate finance and adaptation efforts. Also, there are targets for
07:22the conservation of the conservation of biodiversity, oceans and the forest. It's the conference of parties. So, the whole world is here and then we are all advocating for the global climate action to address the crisis that climate change is exacerbating in our countries. As an African country, we are very vulnerable country. So, climate change is
07:51climate change is impacted or left an impact, which is very, very severe, causing to the country, drought, recurrent droughts and floods all the time. There's also cyclones in our country, Somalia. So, it is a very important meeting to the whole world. Those are parties in UNFCCC.
08:18So, we are here to be part of the global climate action. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Implementation of NDCs. Yeah, doing the full effort of addressing climate change with the other countries.
08:34I think there should be priority to the community driven or the community led solution because there are a lot of indigenous people here and we have to prioritize just an inclusive energy transition.
08:47It means the inclusivity and we have to include people, not only like the symbolic one, but it's a meaningful participation of the indigenous people and the local communities. It's kind of nice because there are a lot of space, there are a lot of forum that youth can raise their voices and there are a lot of places as well that indigenous people can raise their voices and I think it can help us to raise the voices from the underrepresented and the vulnerable voices.
09:15My priority is agroecology. For the African, we need agroecology. Souverainty, alimentation. I think this time we will get a good solution because I saw many, many people are engaged, engagement.
09:40And now we have a short break coming up. But first remember, you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more. We'll be right back. Stay with us.
