The Senate passed legislation to reopen the government, bringing the longest shutdown in history closer to an end as a small group of Democrats ratified a deal with Republicans despite searing criticism from within their party.

00:00On this vote, the yeas are 60 and the nays are 40. Three-fifths of the senators duly chosen and
00:13sworn have voted in the affirmative. The motion is agreed to. Cloture having been invoked,
00:18the motion to commit and the amendments pending thereto fall. This has been a very long road,
00:27quite literally the longest shutdown in history. I am very, very happy to be able
00:33to say that we are coming to the end. And before we close today, I want to take the
00:39time to say thank you to my staff who have worked around the clock tirelessly
00:46now for the past six weeks.
