00:01It's about moving forward from today.
00:04Whatever it takes to fix it is what has to happen.
00:08That's better. That is faster.
00:12Nobody needs to know.
00:14I'm racing this car at Silverstone.
00:16It's two-driver. Do you want to have a laugh?
00:19I bloody loved it.
00:23After four rollercoaster years
00:25in the classic car restoration business...
00:27That worked.
00:28I'm going to claim my thought of everything.
00:30It seems I've finally cracked it.
00:32Happy customer. That's a good feeling.
00:35We've dragged our PR department...
00:37You're going to get your asses over here damn quick.
00:39...into the 21st century.
00:41Our reach on that day was 317,000 people.
00:46And as brand ambassador...
00:48If you happen to have a car in the UK ever...
00:51I'm leading the charge.
00:53Ho-ho! This is brilliant!
00:55At least that's what I thought.
00:57If you've over-promised...
00:59Yeah.
01:00You can't under-deliver.
01:02...until my mum arrived.
01:04They won't listen to me.
01:05They'll listen to me.
01:06And it turns out that once again I'm in deep trouble.
01:10I'm going to have to do something.
01:12I'm going to have to do something big.
01:13Oh, my God.
01:14Oh, my God.
01:15Oh, my God.
01:16Oh, my God.
01:20You will.
01:21I'm not going to have to do anything...
01:23I'm not going to have to do anything.
01:24Right?
01:25I am pretty excited about this opportunity to go racing with Patrick Blakeney Edwards,
01:41my mate. There's a slight issue in that to race with him at his level, I've got to upgrade my
01:48racing license, but I've done a bit of reading and researching, and to do that, I just need to do a
01:54little bit of marshalling at another race, so thinking about it, that's like a win-win, so I've
02:00got to do a bit more racing to do some more racing, which is why I've dragged the MGB out of storage,
02:05and I'm taking it into the workshop to give it a once-over, and this is good.
02:09Morning, H. How are you?
02:25I'm good.
02:26Good, good, good.
02:27But, um, why is that here?
02:29That's our race car, isn't it?
02:30Well, I can see it's a race car, but why is it here?
02:32Well, because I've been given the chance to do, like, a next-level race with Patrick,
02:36and to do it, I've got to get my license upgraded, and I do that by doing some more races in that
02:42to get the signatures, so I've brought this in to give to the lads, just give it a once-over
02:46and make sure it's not going to explode, and it works.
02:50So you're thinking of banging that in the workshop and using more workshop time?
02:56Quite a bit, and then they can come and just, you know, they do what they love doing,
02:58be my workshop team.
02:59They enjoy it on the day, for if they're being the team...
03:02Well, I'm not surprised that they enjoy it, but it's not making money.
03:05No, but if they're being a race team, it's motivational and...
03:08I'm going to be fair, Ian.
03:11I think, under my watch, that's not happening.
03:16Do you know what the Pomeroy trophy cost?
03:18No.
03:19That cost you ten grand.
03:20Can't take the lads.
03:21No, it can't happen like that, Rich.
03:23OK, I'll think of another way.
03:24OK?
03:25Probably already happening, isn't it?
03:26OK, good man.
03:27See you in a bit.
03:29Reluctantly, you have to admit, Adrian's probably right.
03:39Um, I can't be spending workshop resources on that.
03:43I mean, it's not like we're awash with cash at the best of times.
03:46But there's an issue.
03:48Um, I have kind of already committed to a race at Silverstone coming up very soon.
03:56It's awkward.
03:59Bugger.
04:01While I let that little problem percolate, I'm hoping a trip up north to see an old mate called
04:06Ellis will help show Adrian I'm not a complete idiot when it comes to business.
04:14So, I used to sell antique pine furniture and then deliver it in my little van.
04:18And I worked alongside Ellis.
04:20Oh, OK.
04:22Such a small world, hey?
04:25Ellis and I shared a love of bikes.
04:27And now, nearly four decades on, he's launching a new boutique British motorcycle brand and wants our help.
04:34This is awesome.
04:35This is going to be the smallest cogs first collaboration with a manufacturer and a brand.
04:39Yeah, it would be.
04:39I can do it with some social content.
04:41Oh, yeah.
04:42We're going to their big factory there now.
04:43No, no, no.
04:44It's not Honda.
04:48Ooh.
04:49There's motorcycles, you see?
04:50Straight away.
04:51I'm happy.
04:53The prototype bikes have been designed and built in a home garage with the help of business partner, Ian.
04:59Hello.
05:00Hello.
05:01Ian.
05:02Nice to see you, mate.
05:02This is Lewis.
05:03Hiya.
05:04Nice to meet you, Lewis.
05:05Nice to meet you, all right?
05:05Mate.
05:06Hi, how are you?
05:07Nice to see you, nice to see you, nice to see you, this is Lewis.
05:09Hi, pleased to meet you, pleased to meet you.
05:11Right, so we had the initial chair.
05:13I haven't seen one yet.
05:14Can we have a look at the bike before we do anything else?
05:15Of course we can.
05:15Of course.
05:16So is this number one?
05:18It is number one.
05:19Genuinely?
05:20Yeah, yeah.
05:20So these guys, because they're mad, at a time when the motorcycle market is...
05:26Struggling.
05:26Yeah.
05:28And the record of small, independent manufacturers succeeding is...
05:32Disastrous.
05:33Um, you're launching...
05:35Will you stop it now?
05:37I think this is great, positivity and all that, yeah.
05:40I think it's actually brilliant.
05:41I mean, I would never have forecast this when we knew each other 30...
05:4540.
05:46It's not 40, it's 50.
05:4750.
05:48Shut up, Ellis.
05:48Some years ago that you'd be doing this.
05:51So what is it?
05:52What's the story?
05:53Where's the engine come from?
05:55The engine's from Italy.
05:56What capacity is it?
05:57600.
05:58Parallel to it?
05:58Single.
05:59Single.
05:59Yeah, and we just wanted to make something like the bikes we used to ride when we were kids.
06:04We just tried to be as lean as possible.
06:06How many are you hoping to make?
06:07If we got to the point where we were making a couple of hundred a year, it'd be great.
06:11Right.
06:12Can I have a seat on your motorcycle?
06:14You can.
06:14You can.
06:16Valet.
06:17Yeah.
06:17You can be nice to me now because I was always scared of you when we worked.
06:21So you're like scouting.
06:24That's it.
06:27Ooh.
06:28You sound quite naughty, doesn't you?
06:29Yeah.
06:30I like the layout of it.
06:32It's quite off-road-y feeling.
06:34So what's this one in here?
06:35So this is same engine, but different bodywork.
06:39It's got slightly more duck tail on it.
06:40It has, yeah.
06:41So it's more of a flat tracker type style.
06:43It's quite cool.
06:44Right, so what, when, and how can the smallest cog help?
06:48We are looking for someone to paint the tanks.
06:50Yeah.
06:50But we also need some suggestions for colours.
06:53What have you got so far?
06:54So we've got the blue, the black, and the red.
06:57And how did you arrive at those?
06:58He looked at the internet for ten minutes.
07:00I was thinking about my felt tip.
07:02Okay, so blue, black, and red, these incredible new colours you've discovered.
07:05We'll come up with some suggestions.
07:07I'd love us to have a think about some sort of special finishes as well.
07:10When are you hoping to be in production?
07:12This year.
07:13Right.
07:14I can see it being quite a good launch with the smallest cog as well.
07:18Yeah, some sort of launch and get the press to see it.
07:22Um, Ellis, I think you might be able to shed some light on a particular photo.
07:27I was doing a little bit of reading.
07:29When did you last read the book?
07:31Well, it had pictures in it.
07:33Hold on.
07:34Oh.
07:35Ready for this?
07:35That's not what I think it is.
07:37Just firstly.
07:37Firstly, let's look at the first one.
07:40This was a long time ago.
07:42Now, there's a particular page.
07:44You might be able to tell me about this van.
07:47Well, firstly, that is an intact works van.
07:50Right.
07:51And on Richard's commute, one particular bend, there was a very old oak tree.
07:56I went off the bend and hit the tree.
07:57The van was totaled, the following week, a new van was delivered.
08:01And history repeated.
08:03No way.
08:04Yep.
08:04The following week.
08:05Brand new van.
08:06Same tree.
08:06Same tree, same bend.
08:08I wasn't expecting that.
08:09Two vans.
08:10Insecutive weeks.
08:11Oh, my God.
08:12So that's crashing from day dot then?
08:13Yeah.
08:14Yeah.
08:15So what's great is actually to see a one-piece Renault van.
08:18That's the only kind of thing he's got.
08:19I'm taking that off you.
08:20I don't know where you've got it.
08:21I'm going to go out and get one of those books.
08:23That one's for sale.
08:23This is kind of the ultimate men in sheds, and I'm not being rude to them when I say
08:30that, because they want to be in full production, and I think we're about ready to give this
08:34a go.
08:36I sense fun.
08:49So the guys at Mac can go to any body shop, and they've decided to come to us.
08:53So I really want to show off what we can do, and hopefully we'll get the contracts.
08:57I'm not taking any pleasure in watching this video, because I know there's a race car crash
09:19coming, and I know it's my mate in the car, but I'm going to watch it anyway.
09:22And here he comes.
09:23He's lost it.
09:23Ooh, that didn't even know that that's up.
09:25Ooh, that's in the wall.
09:30Yeah.
09:30Well, actually, he's more than a mate.
09:31He's a colleague, Mark Sandman.
09:34I've worked with him for, to measure it, decades, on Grand Tour and Top Gear.
09:39He's a mad keen racer in his classic Mini, and, well, as I just saw, he bent it at an
09:46event.
09:46But the good news is, he's brought it to me to get it mended.
09:50Right, I'm going to go and see the wreckage.
09:52Nice to see Mark as well.
09:59Here he comes.
10:00All Sandman have a van.
10:04And there's his van.
10:06There will be a soldering iron in there, lots of different types of tape, but more importantly,
10:10behind it, there's his little race car.
10:12Look at it.
10:13Hi, mate.
10:14Hello, Richard.
10:15Isn't it lovely?
10:17Wow.
10:17It was a bit lovelier.
10:19This is the problematic corner.
10:21Ooh, ooh, it's bruised.
10:22Hmm.
10:23Yeah, what that is, is the wrong shape now.
10:25Yes.
10:26Has it bent the shell?
10:27It has bent the shell.
10:28If you open the door of truth here, it bolts in at the back fine, but here, it doesn't
10:34want to line up.
10:35It is definitely a bit wonky.
10:36Oh, mate, we've got to get it right.
10:38It's a shame.
10:39But it's all right.
10:39I mean, it's been a rally car since the early 1990s.
10:42It's got these lovely Monte Carlo stickers, because this car won the historic Monte Carlo
10:47in 2003.
10:48All we need to do is get Matt to go over it, because he likes nothing more than getting
10:52things the right shape.
10:53That is the job for him.
10:58If you think about it, it is interesting time, Mark's Mini coming in, because, well, it's
11:05kind of proof that there is work to be had from the racing world.
11:09So, I am going to take on board Hadrian's suggestion.
11:14But he didn't say, don't do any more racing, specifically said, don't do any more racing
11:19using COG resources and money and people.
11:23Yeah, I think of a way around that.
11:25My amazing contacts.
11:28If this business becomes, like, a huge success, it's down to me.
11:34Hello.
11:35Hello, Les.
11:36How are you?
11:36I'm all right, mate.
11:37How's yourself?
11:38I'm all right.
11:38How's the mirror?
11:39Is it raining?
11:40Not as we speak.
11:42If it's not, check you're in the right place, mate.
11:44I've got a quick question.
11:48Yes.
11:48How do you fancy a trip to Silverstone?
11:51That sounds brilliant.
11:52You won't be standing around like spectating.
11:54You'll be closer to the action.
11:56Oh, hang on.
11:57What do you mean, closer to the action?
11:58Ah, you see, I've piqued your interest, haven't I?
12:01You'll have to bring the smaller of your farmer's hammers.
12:04Yes.
12:04And perhaps a screwdriver.
12:06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:07I'll let you know.
12:07I'll let you know.
12:09Bye.
12:09Bye-bye, bud.
12:11Right, let's see who else I can rope in.
12:14Zog, how are you doing?
12:23I've put two coats of colour on.
12:25I'm really happy with the outcome.
12:28Anyone can do this.
12:29It's just a standard straight colour.
12:30And we've got ten tanks for me to have a play with,
12:33and I can literally do whatever I want.
12:34So that's where you've got to show your skill.
12:37Ah, Jamie.
12:47It's a bit early for lunch, isn't it?
12:48You wouldn't want to eat this.
12:50That's not paint, is it?
12:51No, this is urea.
12:53Urea?
12:53Yeah.
12:54From what animal?
12:55Normally a pig.
12:56So that's a pot of pig pee.
12:58Basically, yeah, but it comes in a crystallised form.
13:01So what we do, we dissolve that in water,
13:03reacts with the paint and cracks the paint.
13:05It doesn't come out the pig like that, does it?
13:07No, I hope not.
13:07I hope not.
13:08Yeah, that would be good.
13:10Have you done this before?
13:11No.
13:11Are you taking the piss?
13:13You are, literally.
13:18Dip that in, get that nice and wet.
13:20Oh, it's warm.
13:21It's warm, pig pee.
13:21You don't mix this with the paint, then?
13:23No, no.
13:24So this is going to re-crystallise on the tank.
13:27Is that the idea?
13:28Once it crystallises, you put a coat of black on it.
13:31And we won't know what pattern we've got
13:34until we've wiped off the crystals.
13:36Yeah, you can see slightly,
13:37but you won't get the proper effect
13:39until we put the black on.
13:41Plenty of pig pee.
13:42Right, am I doing this?
13:50Yes, please.
13:51It's a brilliant theory.
13:52It works on the internet.
13:54Now, let's have a go
13:55in a professional workshop situation.
13:58Nurse!
14:01I've just been told Hammond
14:02is putting his hands on a paint gun.
14:04So, content for the Mack Motorcycles,
14:06content for the workshop,
14:07because Richard's on a gun.
14:09Let's go.
14:12Just, um, clean it off now.
14:20And I'm aiming to take just the crystals,
14:23leaving the silver to shine through from below.
14:27Right.
14:27And then just gently...
14:29Very gently, yeah.
14:31Ooh.
14:33It sort of reveals itself.
14:35That is the random effect you get from the crystals.
14:38These look like ferns here.
14:40Look at that.
14:40It is a natural effect.
14:42Crystals form naturally.
14:44It's sort of nature did that.
14:45And then the last phase is we then paint,
14:48special type of paint,
14:48over the top of the whole thing.
14:50Yeah.
14:50And where the silver is,
14:51it'll shine through that paint.
14:53That's exactly right.
14:55And this is the smallest cog in action, hey?
14:58Teamwork, making the dreams work, yeah?
15:00It's quite artistic, this process.
15:10This is what I want us to do.
15:13Do that bit more, add value,
15:14do something clever and a bit special.
15:16I've no idea what they'll make of it.
15:18I really haven't.
15:19And they're coming tomorrow.
15:20I'll have to explain how we did it.
15:22That'll be interesting.
15:23It's got to be careful when we unveil it.
15:41Just put it there.
15:41As I watch everybody getting ready
15:45for the guys to arrive from Mack Motorcycles,
15:49I'm just beginning to wonder,
15:51have I overdone it?
15:52Because Ian and Ellis are,
15:54they're actually quite conservative in their outlook.
15:56They're not going crazy.
15:58They want to just set up
15:58a good, functioning little motorcycle company.
16:02And I've presented them with a variety of options,
16:05including a petrol tank painted using pig pee.
16:07GENTLEMEN
16:17Gentlemen, hello.
16:19How are you?
16:20We're in good shape.
16:21How about you?
16:22We've painted some tanks.
16:23We've got some different stuff to show you.
16:24Shall we just go and have a look?
16:25Let's go and have a look.
16:26Here we are.
16:29Are we going down?
16:31Have you grouped me up on it?
16:32Oh, my goodness.
16:34What's the selection?
16:35Yeah, that's why we've tried all sorts of stuff.
16:37Just to see how they come out.
16:39Twin colour looks good.
16:41Good look nice.
16:41Yeah.
16:42So we've got another experimental one
16:44that we've dressed the bike up with.
16:46More?
16:46Yeah, I mean, you may not like it.
16:48You may like it.
16:49I don't know, but it's just worth trying.
16:50Oh, my goodness.
16:52Put it in a different outfit
16:53and it's a different bike, isn't it?
16:55Do you know, I would never have thought
16:57that colour would have produced that effect.
16:59But there's one last thing.
17:01Come and have a look at this.
17:02You'll have to come round.
17:03Because we went a bit berserk.
17:06Wow.
17:07It's amazing, isn't it?
17:08I want this one.
17:10I'm just wondering, can we try it on the bike?
17:13We might all go...
17:13Have you not popped it up on the bike yet?
17:14No.
17:15Shall we try it on?
17:15Definitely.
17:16Oh, my goodness.
17:21Look at that.
17:22God, that looks cool.
17:23That's completely changed it again.
17:25Cool.
17:26That does look reassuringly expensive.
17:30That is good.
17:30We can do more.
17:32This is the first time we've tried something
17:34that's really different,
17:35but it definitely works.
17:37So what we'd really like to do
17:38is take it somewhere where we can show it off.
17:41And where do you want to do it and when?
17:42It'd be really cool if we could do something like the TT.
17:44Oh, there's a lot of bikers there.
17:46It is the biggest motorcycle event in the world, isn't it?
17:50It's not a lad's trip.
17:51Well, we could make it a bit of a lad's trip.
17:53I'm totally up for that.
17:54No, I can't do that.
18:05Lewis?
18:06Mm-hmm?
18:06I refuse to knock on your door
18:08because it wouldn't be right.
18:09Okay.
18:10So, quite exciting.
18:11Mac boys, they're thrilled.
18:13Happy day.
18:13And a really good idea has come out of it.
18:15Okay.
18:15We want to launch them
18:16at the Isle of Man TT.
18:18Wow.
18:19I mean, what better place?
18:20And that's where, God help us, you come in
18:23because it's an event.
18:24It's got to happen.
18:25We'll have people there.
18:26I want press there.
18:28Social media.
18:29How long have we got?
18:30Ah, well, soon.
18:31But internet, that is your thing.
18:34Okay.
18:44Got this little mini in.
18:46Rear corner damage.
18:47Sub frame isn't lining up anymore.
18:49Just in this corner.
18:50We can clearly see that we're probably
18:53at least 10 mil out.
18:55The best way to straighten it
18:56is obviously to strip it to a bare shell,
18:58put this car on a jig,
18:59and they can reverse the impact.
19:01However, it's not a concourse car.
19:05It's been raced through most of its life,
19:07and there's no point in spending thousands of pounds.
19:10So we're going to try and do an alternative way
19:13of kind of fixing it.
19:20Matt's hoping his improvised contraption
19:22will do the same job as a frame jig,
19:25which stops a car twisting during heavy repair work.
19:28I'll feed this bar up to you, Isaac.
19:30This looks like a seven-arm operation.
19:34The bolted-on aluminium frame
19:36should prevent excessive movement
19:38when the 10-ton hydraulic ram
19:40pushes the body shell square again.
19:43Well, that's the theory.
19:46If it doesn't work, it was your idea, was it?
19:49Oh, yeah.
19:52Right.
19:52So, I have to look at it earlier.
19:56So it's got to be eight mil further.
19:59It might look a bit odd measuring Mark's Mini,
20:01but actually it's really important
20:03because of the way a Mini is built.
20:06Up until the Mini arrived,
20:08most cars had been built with, like, a separate chassis,
20:11and then the body bolted onto that,
20:12whatever body you want, so the two were separate.
20:15The Mini was groundbreaking
20:16because it's a very early monocle car.
20:19That means there is no separate chassis.
20:20The body kind of is the chassis.
20:23It relies on its shape for its strength.
20:26Are you ready?
20:27Yeah.
20:27Let's go.
20:28I don't normally get nervous, but...
20:35I'm quite nervous.
20:38Are we moving?
20:39Yeah, let's move in.
20:40How much?
20:41You've gone three mil so far.
20:43It looks like it's pushing the back quite squarely.
20:47I can see it moving the arch.
20:48And it's straightened this kink out from the outside.
20:52That kink's virtually gone now.
20:53You're 0.8 mil, so you've gone six mil.
20:57Six mil.
20:58That's getting pretty tight now.
21:01That's pretty good.
21:02Look at that.
21:05Oh, yeah?
21:06Yeah, we've got seven mil, haven't we?
21:07Yeah.
21:08What do you reckon?
21:09I'm quite happy with that.
21:10I reckon that's about right.
21:11That's bang on.
21:13Yeah, I think we're quite good there.
21:14That's straightened up.
21:16Really happy with that.
21:17Like, super happy.
21:18It's actually paid off.
21:20I'm quite relieved now.
21:21I need to relieve myself.
21:23So we're pulling this dent out.
21:33Plan is to put your claw on there, use the upright as a tensioner to pull.
21:38Kind of the method of straightening it out when you don't have a jig.
21:45Right, shall I get Richard to just hold the car just in case it slides on the side?
21:49That wouldn't be a bad show.
21:50Richard Hammond off the TV.
21:54What?
21:55Can we use your assistance, please?
21:57Oh.
21:58I wonder when you'd ask.
22:00Right, this is primitive, isn't it?
22:01Yeah.
22:02This is Mark, the Sandman.
22:03He loves this mini, and you've got it on the rack.
22:06You ready?
22:07Yeah.
22:07Oh, oh, it's moving.
22:12It is moving.
22:15Slowly, slowly.
22:19That is amazing, actually.
22:22You might have to give this a bit of a tap from the inside as well.
22:27The original logo for this company featured the legend Classic Car Craft.
22:32Well, yeah.
22:35That is not bad, is it?
22:37It's come out, yeah.
22:37That's come out really nicely, to be fair.
22:39Well, I enjoyed that, chaps.
22:40Thank you very much.
22:41I'm going to try to forget I ever saw it.
22:44Good luck.
22:46Bye.
22:56Zog, les.
22:56Hey, old man.
22:57Richard sent me a message earlier about racing.
23:00Yeah, about that.
23:02He wants to go racing, but he doesn't want to cost the car any money, time.
23:06So, he's brought along Les and Zog to run this car, which, probably not the people I'd pick.
23:14But you know the basics, Les.
23:15Yeah, yeah, yeah.
23:16I've got an idea.
23:17So, what type of pressure is he going to be running?
23:19About 30.
23:21Basically, when he goes out, you set him about 27.
23:23Yeah.
23:24When he comes back in, they should be running about 30.
23:27Hot.
23:27Yeah.
23:27And then, if it's wet, have we got slicks?
23:30No.
23:31This is all we've got.
23:32We've got no spares.
23:33Anything else?
23:34I mean, Richard did mention it overheats quite a bit.
23:37We got to a point where it wasn't too bad.
23:39If it does overheat, that's a Richard issue.
23:41He's got gauges in there that tell him if it's overheating.
23:43So, we can back off and treat it.
23:45Right.
23:45So, it slashes in there?
23:47Yeah.
23:48But the biggest thing you've got to remember, yeah, this is for Richard's safety more than anything.
23:52Right.
23:52OK?
23:53See the fire extinguisher?
23:54Yeah, yeah.
23:55That pin has to be out every time he goes out.
23:57Right.
23:58OK.
23:58Because if he has an accident and he catches fire, this time he's got an extinguisher.
24:03I'm not sure what they know about racing, so I'm a bit worried, because at the end of the day, that's my Doris, and I don't want it getting hurt.
24:11Main thing is, have fun, enjoy it.
24:14Will do.
24:14And bring my Doris back in one piece.
24:16Why are you calling it Doris?
24:18Its name was actually Doris Day, because it'd only last a day.
24:21That's a belting answer.
24:23But no, have great fun, all right?
24:24Good to see you.
24:25Thanks for your time.
24:27I don't think I would have been Richard's first choice for race mechanic, to be fair.
24:31So, he's obviously running out of friends.
24:44Lewis.
24:46Zog Ziegler.
24:47How are you?
24:48Want a biscuit?
24:49You don't keep this triangle at all, so by eating biscuits in the middle of the day.
24:53I mean, OK.
24:54So, you're off to Silverson.
24:55Yes.
24:56I'm going to do your job.
24:58Do you use social media?
24:59Um, I do have Instagram, because I never make it work.
25:03I put Instagram on, and then I get a film that I'm going to write about on there.
25:06OK, so you have social media.
25:08If we've gone in the search, the smallest cock.
25:10Click on that.
25:11Boom!
25:11And that takes us to your page.
25:12Nightmare, mate.
25:13Donald Trump won't just pop up, like he often does.
25:16Well, he will do, yes, because that's who you follow.
25:17Does he follow me?
25:18I don't think he's following you, but you do follow him.
25:21All right.
25:22So, all you need to do is explain what's happening with the day.
25:24Oh, I don't know.
25:25You have to turn it round, don't you?
25:27There's something you can do to get me on.
25:29Do you know how to use a camera on your phone?
25:31I used to have a brownie box.
25:33This is going to be a nightmare.
25:34It is.
25:35I warned you.
25:38I will probably ask some people to help.
25:40I'll find someone much, much younger,
25:41because the danger then is they think that, you know,
25:44what's this old man talking to me for?
25:46Smells of piss and cabbage.
25:49That's what all people smell like, apparently.
25:51Yep.
25:52I have zero hope.
26:03It's race day,
26:04and all I've got to do is finish today's race,
26:07and I'll be just one step closer
26:09to competing in the motorsport Big Dog League.
26:12To get me over the line,
26:14I'll be relying heavily on my stand-in support team,
26:18Les and Zog.
26:20Tell you what, half past seven in the morning, for God's sake.
26:23It's not normal.
26:25As well as boosting team morale,
26:27Zog's on social media duty.
26:29I'm Zog.
26:31I'm director of public...
26:32OK, my hair's a mess.
26:34I'm director of public relations, normally,
26:36but I've been called in to do the social media things.
26:40You're also helping me with mechanics.
26:42Oh, good luck with that, mate.
26:44And there ends the first part of social media.
26:47Look at you.
26:48Don't you look good, man?
26:49Slightly windswept.
26:50Winswept and interesting.
26:52And Les is holding the machinery.
26:55You were born to it.
26:56You were absolutely born to it, Zog.
26:58Now we just need to upload, don't we?
27:01Right, that's brilliant.
27:02That's our first bit of social media.
27:04Cheers, Les.
27:04Couldn't do with that.
27:05Right, chaps, now, the mission,
27:08let us not lose sight of it.
27:10Yes.
27:10The whole point of this exercise,
27:11get signatures on my licence
27:12so I can race at the next level.
27:14OK, let's get it warmed up, then.
27:15Get it warmed up.
27:21I have to say,
27:22this coming racing with a sort of stripped-out crew
27:23with no real engineers,
27:25just those two idiots,
27:26I'm loving it.
27:27I suppose you're just having a day out with your mates.
27:30I couldn't find any.
27:30I bought those two.
27:31I've never been a mechanic.
27:33I've been to lots of motor races.
27:34But you can fiddle, you can.
27:36Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I can fiddle.
27:37I don't know what the devil I'm doing today,
27:38but I'm happy, so it doesn't matter.
27:42This is our racer.
27:43Hello.
27:44Ready to go in his wrong pursuit.
27:46Dinky little booties.
27:54Right, little MGB,
27:56let's both get through today.
27:58Victory will be getting the signatures
28:00on my licence that I need
28:01to move up on them.
28:03That's all I've got to do.
28:04So, it's going to be one more
28:16lap to the start line.
28:18We form up in grid order.
28:25Got our numbers ready, Zolt.
28:26We know our stuff, mate.
28:29Red lights are on.
28:31Handbrake is off.
28:32I think my clutch is on the way out.
28:42I had a bad start.
28:44Just get it round.
28:45Remember,
28:46it's all you're after doing.
28:48Here he is.
28:50He's in the game.
28:51It'll be nice to get past this other MGB.
28:58I did.
29:02Second from last.
29:04Ah, Mini.
29:04I reckon I could probably get that.
29:06Yeah.
29:08I'm through.
29:10He's made another place.
29:12Marvellous.
29:12This could be risky.
29:14If he runs wide,
29:15I'm going to go inside him.
29:21One of us is going to have to concede.
29:25And it's him.
29:27Yeah!
29:29Wait a minute.
29:30Richard, do not overdrive yourself
29:32and break the car.
29:33I'm just trying to complete the race.
29:39Oh, shit.
29:41I'm getting hot.
29:43Oh, God.
29:47It's flashing red now.
29:49It's gone over 100.
29:51I think I am just going to back right off.
29:55It doesn't look very fast.
29:57Oh, it's starting to smell hot now.
29:59I'm going to kill the car.
30:03You're working yourself into a lava, Les.
30:05This is stressful.
30:06I know.
30:07I can see.
30:08Six minutes.
30:09So that's like four laps.
30:13Please.
30:14Please make it.
30:16Oh, this is agony.
30:18One more lap.
30:19One more lap after this
30:21and I'll have done it.
30:23That's what we like.
30:26Oh, I've done it.
30:31I've done it.
30:36I've done it.
30:37Thank God.
30:38Yay!
30:39Woo!
30:41Never has last place been celebrated so fine.
30:44Next stop, gin.
30:46Wow.
30:52Gentlemen, thank you.
30:53Ha-ha.
30:54My race team, your team.
30:55Well done.
30:55Well done.
30:56What a race team.
30:58It was really hard
30:59not to get carried away
31:00and blow the car up,
31:01but if I hadn't finished
31:03then I wouldn't get the signature I needed.
31:04So, okay, I nursed it
31:06and I had a great time.
31:08Just want to do more.
31:08All right.
31:12Zog?
31:12Yes?
31:13One of the pit boards
31:13that you and Les put out
31:14said cog, pint.
31:17Yes, yes.
31:17Can we do that bit?
31:18Yes, please.
31:19Right, we'll pick this up later.
31:20Another mechanical sympathy.
31:22Sod it.
31:22Thought you'd never ask.
31:23Customer coming in, Mark.
31:36My sound man I've worked with
31:38for about 25 years
31:39to get his racing mini
31:40and he's already here.
31:41Hello, mate.
31:46Hello, hello.
31:47I'd like to see a customer
31:48working on their own car.
31:49That's good.
31:49It's good, doesn't it?
31:50It looks fantastic.
31:51Are you happy?
31:52Yes, I'm very happy.
31:53Good.
31:53The thing I'm particularly excited about
31:55is that I tried to bolt the suspension up
31:57after I crashed it
31:58and it didn't fit.
31:59And now, if it's a great sign.
32:01I'm very pleased
32:01because I was involved in straightening it.
32:03I played it, as I recall,
32:05a pretty pivotal role.
32:06Pivotal.
32:07I heard it was pivotal.
32:07It was.
32:08It was largely down to me.
32:09I'll probably check that it's, um...
32:11Works.
32:11Yeah, check that it works.
32:12Um, the other thing about this car,
32:14of course,
32:14because it's a race car,
32:15how would it be up against my little MGB?
32:18This would be a hell of a lot faster,
32:19wouldn't it?
32:20Hmm, I don't know.
32:21Come testing.
32:22Can we just be quite clear
32:23until I get a lot better?
32:24There is no way
32:25am I going up against you on a track.
32:26Because you've done this a lot
32:27and it would be annoying.
32:29I've done it a bit.
32:30I'll be very rude if you overtake me.
32:32I can accidentally...
32:34Oh, no.
32:35I know where to get it fixed.
32:36You could take out
32:36an entire field of race cars
32:38and have six months' worth of work.
32:43They've done a really nice job of it
32:44and they've treated it with love and care,
32:46which is the important thing.
32:47You know, it's a really special car to me.
32:49I've known it a very long time.
32:50So I'm really pleased with what they've done.
32:56Today, we are packing,
33:06ready to go to the TT.
33:08And in 39 years of motorcycle riding,
33:12that's something I've never done.
33:14I've never made it to
33:15possibly the most famous motorcycle race
33:17and one of the longest running in the world.
33:19But we're not all going as tourists.
33:21This is work.
33:23We've arranged a little bit of a launch event
33:24for Mack motorcycles,
33:26but obviously I'm packing my bike kit
33:29because you can't ride the TT
33:31and not ride the bike.
33:35The plan is to cross to the Isle of Man by sea
33:38after meeting Ian and Ellis at the port.
33:41Jamie, a lot of bikes.
33:54Hell of a lot of bikes.
33:55Yeah.
33:55These are our people.
33:59Aha!
34:01Gentlemen, good morning.
34:03You managed to navigate your way north.
34:04We did.
34:06I am very excited about this whole mission.
34:11I didn't think I'd be this many people,
34:15to be honest.
34:15Obviously, it's big,
34:16but it's absolutely crazy.
34:18Let's check in
34:19and let the fun and serious work
34:21launching your new brand begin.
34:26To the right, thanks.
34:28To the right.
34:33This is pretty cool.
34:37That's a lot of bikes
34:39and I love being around bikes and bikers,
34:42so I'm having a great day.
34:46Right, so we are at sea for a little while now.
34:56Yeah.
34:57I think we've organised everything,
34:58but let's just go through it.
35:00So, it's at the Paramount City Cafe.
35:02We've got the bikes.
35:04Journalists have been invited.
35:05We'll get awareness of the brands,
35:07awareness of your bikes
35:08and have fun.
35:09Yeah.
35:10There's a bit of a social bit to do,
35:11to just say,
35:12we're on our way.
35:13Please come down to Paradise Cafe.
35:15I won't say that,
35:16because it's the wrong place.
35:16You know, we know.
35:17It's Paramount.
35:18Come to Paradise.
35:19Come to Paradise.
35:20That's all you need to say.
35:24I really hope
35:25Lewis's social media expertise
35:26outweighs his attention to detail.
35:28A lot is riding on this.
35:30See what I did?
35:31Go on, then.
35:32Right.
35:33I'm on my way
35:33to the legendary TT motorcycle race,
35:36but it's not just the racing
35:37to be excited about.
35:39There is a launch.
35:42What's amazing
35:43is there's thousands of bikes below deck,
35:46but everyone's looking at my work
35:48saying how good the paintwork is.
35:50It just makes you proud
35:51to put my name to them bikes.
35:54MUSIC PLAYS
35:56What makes the Isle of Man TT
36:05so famous
36:06isn't just the fact
36:07that it's the oldest
36:07motorcycle race event in the world.
36:10It's also the most dangerous,
36:12with riders getting up to speeds
36:13of over 200 miles an hour
36:15on a track consisting entirely
36:17of public roads.
36:20This is motorcycling's hallowed ground.
36:23Nearly 40,000 bikers
36:25make the annual pilgrimage.
36:36I can't believe we made it.
36:38Looks a bit like Blackpool,
36:40doesn't it?
36:43We're officially launching
36:45the bikes tonight.
36:47Getting the attention
36:47of these diehard biking aficionados
36:50won't be easy,
36:51but Lewis assures me
36:53it's in hand.
36:56I've had a look on the phone
36:57and we've hit
36:58just nearly 175,000 views
37:01on the little video
37:02that Hammond did on the ferry,
37:03spreading the word
37:04about our event this evening.
37:09Now, I was doing
37:10some schmoozing last night.
37:12Right.
37:12And Mr. TT have said
37:14that we can lead
37:16the legacy lap.
37:18So these four
37:19are going to lead
37:20the 1,000 motorbikes
37:21around the full
37:2337.5 mile track.
37:25Really?
37:26Yeah.
37:26Never.
37:27That's quite a cool launch.
37:28Just say that again.
37:30We're going to be at the front.
37:31We're going to be at the front
37:32showing off the bikes.
37:33Cool.
37:33I don't know the way.
37:43I'm lucky.
37:43I have done a lot of stuff.
37:45I've never done this.
37:46I mean, you can actually
37:47feel the ground shaking.
37:50That's mental, isn't it?
37:52I'm going to stall
37:52and then the whole thing.
37:55Everyone on their sides.
37:57Soz.
37:58Oh, movement is happening.
38:00Literally, we're off.
38:03Oh, that is incredible.
38:10Yes, man.
38:12Sometimes the queue behind
38:13is eight miles.
38:14I know, it's nuts.
38:15It's just forever.
38:16Absolutely nuts.
38:17It's incredible.
38:18Miles and miles of bikes.
38:20Every possible type
38:21you can imagine.
38:25Is this the circuit?
38:27This is the course.
38:28Oh, yeah.
38:28But it's stone walls.
38:31And they pull like
38:32a hundred and whatever along here.
38:33An average of over
38:34a hundred and thirty mile an hour.
38:36It's insanity.
38:38This manhole covers.
38:40Oh, my God.
38:41That's tight.
38:42Imagine that.
38:43Oh, I've got it wrong.
38:44I've hit a church.
38:50They're actually waiting
38:51to cross the road.
38:52Did I see the sign
38:55for 19 miles back there?
38:57Oh, I don't know.
38:58It means we're only halfway.
39:00I need a wee already.
39:01Me too.
39:05So now we're going to go
39:06out up into the mountain.
39:08Looks a bit misty up there.
39:10It must feel suddenly
39:11very lonely when you're racing.
39:13It's all busy
39:13and then suddenly
39:14big speeds coming up.
39:16The Legacy Lap pays homage
39:25to the incredible bravery
39:26of the riders
39:27who put their lives
39:28on the line
39:29to race at the TT.
39:30I could get a little bit
39:40emotional about this.
39:42I'm a biker.
39:42I have been all my life.
39:44And look at this.
39:45We're coming down now
39:46to Balacrane,
39:47which is a really famous turn.
39:49Wow.
39:51Right now,
39:51it's quite graceful
39:52and flowing.
39:53What it must be like
39:54at race pace,
39:55I cannot imagine.
39:56I think we need to do
40:01more bikes
40:01at the smallest cog.
40:03It's a fact.
40:09So the lads are on their way
40:11down from the circuit.
40:12We're here
40:12at the Paramount City Cafe.
40:14Here we come.
40:15I can see Jamie's
40:16flashing beacons
40:17leading the pack.
40:18It's like the red arrows.
40:26How's it feel
40:27having your bike
40:27running up and down
40:28at the TT then?
40:29This is the most
40:30extraordinary sensation.
40:32It really is.
40:32It's cool, isn't it?
40:3336 or whatever years ago,
40:35working in your dad's
40:36antique pine place
40:37to here.
40:38I'm speechless.
40:40Absolutely speechless.
40:48Respect duly paid.
40:50Time for business.
40:53We all look lovely.
40:54We're fresh and ready.
40:55But what's the plan
40:56of action?
40:57You've got a plan
40:57for if we get
40:58five or 50 people.
41:01Yes, we do.
41:01Yeah, yeah.
41:01The power of social media,
41:03something tells me
41:03it's going to be
41:04quite busy.
41:09Feeling good.
41:10All my paintwork's
41:11on display,
41:12which is really nice
41:13for the guys to see.
41:14Bike's looking amazing.
41:16There's a lot of people
41:16coming in now.
41:18They're actually
41:18stopping people at the door,
41:19so it's getting really,
41:20really busy.
41:21So it's quite good.
41:22Lewis,
41:23try not to run over
41:24any of the attendees
41:25with the bike
41:26they've come to see launched.
41:28It's an amazing turnout.
41:29I can't believe
41:29there are people
41:30queuing outside.
41:31Standing room only.
41:32Why don't we hide?
41:35Ladies and gentlemen,
41:36welcome to the
41:36Paramount City Coffeehouse
41:37for the official launch
41:39of Mack Motorcycles.
41:40That's your coming.
41:41This is their launch
41:45and I want it to work
41:46for them because
41:47he's an old mate.
41:48Also for the
41:48smallish cog,
41:49let's be honest.
41:50We're all here
41:51because I'm guessing
41:53we all love bikes,
41:54but few of us
41:55love bikes enough
41:56to set up
41:57our own mark.
41:59But there are
41:59two guys here
42:00who did.
42:01This is great.
42:02I mean this is great
42:02for our socials.
42:04I mean the videos
42:04I'm getting now
42:05are just going to
42:06pop off online.
42:07Setting up any kind
42:08of mark
42:09sounds like utter insanity.
42:11Such a reaction.
42:12A couple hundred people
42:13here, probably more.
42:14Everyone giving us
42:15great compliments
42:16about the bike.
42:17Thank you so much
42:17for coming along
42:18to see us.
42:18Enjoy the rest
42:19of the races
42:20and that's your coming.
42:23How did that go?
42:24Just a massively
42:25positive reaction
42:26to the bike.
42:27Yeah.
42:27To the paintwork,
42:28the style.
42:29People loved it.
42:30It's pretty spectacular
42:31what you've done.
42:32Yeah, yeah.
42:32We could literally
42:33paint any colour
42:34we wanted to,
42:35whatever designs
42:35we wanted.
42:37Out of this,
42:38I think we're going
42:39to get a lot more work.
42:41So tell us about
42:41this bike then.
42:42So this one
42:42is set up
42:44as a cafe racer.
42:45I think seeing people
42:46love the bike,
42:48say how different it is,
42:50we never thought
42:51that it would be
42:51this good.
42:52People are looking
42:54at the bikes
42:54and really it's
42:55down to those two now.
42:56It's their business.
42:57It's their creation.
42:58And also,
42:59you know,
43:00how fabulous
43:00the paintwork is,
43:01obviously,
43:01because if you're
43:02a specialist
43:02in painting vehicles
43:04and you get to
43:05design the look
43:05of a brand new vehicle,
43:07that's kind of cool.
43:08Yeah,
43:08and the better they do,
43:09the better the smaller
43:10as Cog does,
43:10it's kind of a win-win-win.
43:13Right,
43:13time to inspect
43:15the newbies.
43:16Chaps,
43:17you're starting
43:17on the Condor, yeah?
43:18I assume there's
43:19a comprehensive
43:19workshop manual.
43:20No, there is nothing.
43:21This is the vet
43:22come to tell me
43:23if my old pet's had it.
43:24We're down to
43:25three mil on the bottom.
43:26Where's it gone?
43:27It's just wore away.
43:28I have to do
43:29a day's marshalling.
43:30I'm on the flag,
43:31so you go that side.
43:32I want to do the flag.
43:34I have control
43:35of the situation.
43:36And I can keep it up
43:36as long as I need to.
43:37Really?
43:38I want to do it.
43:46I want to do it.
43:49I want to do it.
43:53I want to do it.
