The European Union recently approved its “2025 Enlargement Package”. This means the European Union is accepting the requested consideration for inclusion of other countries into its political, military, and economic bloc.
Why would the European Union want to do this? The saying “Might makes Right” come to mind. Is it possible the inclusion of the population of other countries along with the increased population and economic clout would increase the might of, not only the European Union, but also power and economies of the nations being included.
Will this new Union really be stronger in the long run? If new nations do join the European Union, will they remain joined?
So, who cares if other nations join the European Union? Who cares if the EU will be stronger or not?
Well, what if Biblical prophecies were being fulfilled? Would anyone care then? Would it matter to you if the European Union plays a major role in Biblical prophecy? What if the European Union was the sixth king of Rev 17:10 would you care then? Would you be worried? You should be.

00:00Greetings, friends. This is Steve Dupuy for the Bible News Prophecy Program with Dr. Bob Thiel,
00:09bringing you news and analysis of world events in light of Bible prophecy.
00:14Dr. Thiel, I recently heard something about the possible expansion of the European Union.
00:19Do you know if that is accurate?
00:21Well, this week, the EU approved a 2025 EU enlargement package. We read about this here.
00:28The European Commission released its annual enlargement report. There is movement on Europe's waiting list.
00:33Ten countries are officially candidates to join the EU. Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, Turkey, and Ukraine.
00:47Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, said,
00:50quote, we're more committed than ever to turning EU enlargement into reality because a larger union means a stronger, more influential Europe on the global stage.
01:01And the report said significant progress has been achieved with these nations.
01:08And each enlargement, according to this report, has made the EU stronger, said when 10 countries joined the EU in 2024, it was their largest expansion.
01:17Since then, those new countries saw their living standards basically double, unemployment cut almost in half, life expectancy increase, poverty drop, new jobs created.
01:27Plus, it helped the existing members of the EU with trade.
01:34Now, there's another enlargement thing, by the way, that happened in 2025.
01:37And that was when Serbia, Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Moldova all joined what's called the single European payments area called CEPA, which involves using cross-border trade with the euro.
01:55But what is the significance of some nations joining the European Union while still other nations join CEPA?
02:03Well, all those nations want to be in the EU that I mentioned, and they all have joined CEPA.
02:09And that's kind of a step to get them into the EU.
02:12Now, the EU wants to be more powerfully geopolitically and economically.
02:17More people using Europe are going, euro is going to help that.
02:20And that's going to, they want to dominate trade, which the Bible talks about will happen with Europe, with the beast in Revelation 17 and 18, those chapters.
02:28Now, another reason, though, to have more countries in is because there was a news item this week said, Europe's getting older.
02:38Can enlargement bring new life into the EU?
02:40And it says EU's population is going to shrink by a third by the end of the century without migration, losing the equivalent of a million workers annually for the next 25 years.
02:50And it says Italy and Spain are facing looming population collapse.
02:55Latest data shows.
02:56I've never heard of a population collapse.
03:00Is that the major reason for the EU to increase the number of countries in the bloc?
03:08No, I think economic power is the main one, but this is a motivating factor.
03:14Now, according to Eurostat, EU is going to lose about 9% of its population by 2050 and 34% by 2100 if there's not more migration.
03:28And then the EU Commission noted that with their 20,004 enlargement, which they call the Big Bang, it brought lots of benefits, including younger workers.
03:42Okay.
03:43And so that will help.
03:44And then they did a survey recently that 56% of the EU citizens are in favor of further EU enlargement.
03:53And enlarged EU means more people, more economic strength, more power in international trade, more strength of the euro and less need of the United States of America.
04:04So, yes, we expect enlargement consistent with prophecies in Daniel and Revelation.
04:10And Europe wants to expand.
04:12Now, when it expands, you know, one problem the EU has right now is it's very bureaucratic.
04:18And if they had five or 10 more countries, it'll probably be worse.
04:23Well, the Bible tells us in Revelation 17, verses 12 and 13, that Europe is going to have to then reorganize.
04:31Ten kings are going to get power for a time who don't have it now.
04:34So that's a reorganization.
04:36But even then, they won't be able to do it.
04:38And they're going to turn their power over to a strongman, a dictator, the totalitarian leader called the Beast.
04:44And that's how they're going to do it.
04:47Now, as far as expansion, one part of the EU I want to talk about is the Balkan Peninsula.
04:52Currently, you've got nations in or by the Balkan Peninsula that are in the EU, such as Slovenia, Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania.
05:03And many EU leaders want the rest of the Balkan nations in as well.
05:08I want to read something from this past spring from Euronews.
05:14The enlargement to the Western Balkans is widely considered a key foreign policy tool and strategic priority in the EU as a whole,
05:22to the point that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen referred to it as, quote,
05:27the reunification of Europe in her State of the Union speech.
05:33But what did the president mean by the reunification of Europe?
05:37Well, basically, the only times Europe was really united was under ancient Roman Empire, the so-called Holy Roman Empire.
05:44So they're looking at doing something like the resurrected Holy Roman Empire.
05:47Wow.
05:48Now, as far as the Balkans go, last fall, the Chancellor of Germany said, quote,
05:54the European Union is only complete with the Western Balkans part of it.
05:59And that was confirmed by Ursula von der Leyen.
06:03And this past spring, it was reported that EU leaders want the Balkans because of geography,
06:09it's on the continent, minerals, including rare earth minerals, and military reasons.
06:14Now, a lot of these Western Balkan nations waited a long time to be in, and they thought they'd be in by now.
06:22But because they're not, you've got places like, let's say, Serbia,
06:25and they've made some deals with Russia and with China that the EU is not super thrilled about.
06:31Now, the EU wants the Balkans not only because they're part of Europe,
06:35but because they don't want Serbs and Serbians to be an ally of Russia.
06:38In World War II, ethnic Serbs, and they are, by the way, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Serbia,
06:49and some other places, fought against Hitler and the Axis powers.
06:54Yet the Croatians fought on the side of Hitler.
06:57And, by the way, you notice that Croatia is in the EU.
07:02Now, Serbia itself, you know, torn between different places.
07:06But to show the EU that it is interested in being part of it,
07:10last year it decided it was going to buy its military planes from France,
07:14who's in the EU instead of Russia.
07:18Well, that doesn't sound as if the European Union is very unified now.
07:22Oh, there's all kinds of divisions over there.
07:26But the Bible has a prophecy about it's going to happen anyway.
07:30If you go to Daniel chapter 2, starting in verse 41,
07:34talking about the end-time king of the north beast,
07:37here's what we read about him.
07:39Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter's clay and partly of iron,
07:44the kingdom shall be divided, yet the strength of iron shall be in it.
07:48Just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay,
07:50and as the toes and the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay,
07:55so the kingdom should be partly strong and partly fragile.
07:58Now, think about toes.
07:59How many toes do people normally have?
08:01Ten.
08:02Remember, in Revelation 17, 12, and 13,
08:05that reorganization talks about ten kings.
08:08And this ties into this ten over here.
08:10The reorganization is going to happen in Europe.
08:13I don't believe Europe's going to be just ten currently existing nations
08:16because it says those kings didn't have a power at the time,
08:20a kingdom at the time.
08:21Well, anyway, let's look at a key verse in Daniel 2.
08:24This is verse 43.
08:26As you saw, iron mixed with ceramic clay,
08:29they will mingle with the seed of men,
08:30but they will not adhere to one another,
08:33just as iron does not mix with clay.
08:34Well, don't those verses themselves indicate that Europe won't be unified?
08:41Well, they're going to be unified under a dictator,
08:45but a lot of people won't care for each other.
08:48But that being said, the Bible prophesied what we are now seeing as the EU.
08:55I want to go to Daniel chapter 8 and read verse 9.
08:59Because it said the European beast power was going to expand to the southeast.
09:03And out of one of them came a little horn,
09:08which grew exceedingly great toward the south and toward the east
09:11and toward the glorious land.
09:13Now, even though that probably had past fulfillment,
09:16this seems to be a dual prophecy.
09:18Now, what formed at first in Europe was this little group called the Benelux Nations.
09:23It was Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg.
09:25Then France and Germany and others became part of it,
09:29the European common market, etc.
09:30Now, currently, with all the expansion,
09:33which has mostly been to the south and the east,
09:36you've got 450 million people, part of the EU.
09:40It's got 27 member states currently.
09:45Now, the old Radio Church of God evangelist,
09:49Dr. Herman Hay, back in 1965,
09:52he taught that the little horn of Daniel 8
09:55was the power that would become the final king of the north.
09:57He wrote,
09:59turn to your Bible to Daniel 8, verse 9.
10:03And out of one of them came forth a little horn,
10:07which waxed exceedingly great toward the south and toward the east
10:09and toward the pleasant land,
10:11the king of the north.
10:12The little horn in Daniel 8 is none other than the last king
10:15of the four divisions of the Alexander's empire.
10:18He is, in fact, the final king of the north,
10:20described in Daniel 11.
10:21Now, the EU itself has demonstrated a willingness in history
10:26to enlarge from that direction.
10:30Now, of course, not everybody in the Balkans
10:32or Ukraine or Moldova wants to be in the EU,
10:35but I think they will be in there for a time
10:39based on those prophecies in Daniel 8.
10:43In fact, the Balkans,
10:44many people, Balkans do want to be in there,
10:46and the EU wants them.
10:47So I think they temporarily will be in.
10:50Now I want to go to Revelation 17
10:52and read verses 10 and 11,
10:55another prophecy.
10:57There are seven kings,
10:58five have fallen.
10:58One is, the other has not yet come.
11:00When he comes, he must continue a short time.
11:04The beast that was and is not
11:05is himself also the eighth,
11:07is of the seven,
11:08and he's going to perdition.
11:09How does the European Union
11:14fit into that prophecy of seven kings?
11:18The EU seems to be the sixth king above.
11:22Well, who's the seventh king?
11:24The beast of Revelation chapter 13.
11:27The one when they reorganize,
11:29the one they're going to give power to,
11:31the one that will be a totalitarian dictator,
11:33and the one where we will see
11:36what you could call
11:37a resurrected holy empire
11:39or a reunification of Europe
11:43perhaps has never been seen
11:45in all of world history.
11:49You know,
11:50I expect that the EU is going to expand
11:53and have additional nations
11:55consistent with the prophecy.
11:57This will include those in the Balkans.
11:59Partially because of the prophecy
12:01in Daniel 2, 41 to 43,
12:04and some written by Jeremiah,
12:05I've long believed
12:06that some of the nations
12:07who are going to be in the EU
12:08are only going to temporarily
12:09support the beast power
12:11and they're going to turn against it.
12:12I think some will become disillusioned,
12:14disappointed by the EU,
12:16and they're likely to back out of it.
12:18That might include
12:19the Balkan countries such as Serbia.
12:23Now, that being said,
12:24enlargement is the goal of the EU,
12:26and prophetically,
12:27we know the beast power will be large.

13:09that the EU's got
13:10another enlargement form
13:11scheduled for November 18,
13:132025,
13:14in their Charlemagne building.
13:16Charlemagne was
13:16one of these
13:17Holy Roman emperors.
13:19Anyway,
13:20the EU wants to enlarge.
13:23It wants the Balkans.
13:25The Balkans want it.
13:27And the reality is
13:29you see what's going on
13:30in Europe.
13:32Europe is moving toward
13:33its prophesied destiny.
13:35It will enlarge
13:36and it will become
13:37a dictatorship.
13:39It will be
13:40led by the beast
13:42of Revelation 13.
13:44He's the one
13:44got to do with 666
13:46and all these other
13:47types of things.
13:48A lot of people
13:49are not looking
13:49in the right direction.
13:50But that's what's going on.
13:52Again,
