00:00Here we go, getting sacked, the first race for the 450s of the 2025 season, about to get underway!
00:12Deegan with a big slide coming out of the gate, terrible start for him, Roxen goes right to the front, but he's got challengers up the inside.
00:20Couple of riders down there at Chaos Corner, here goes Roxen.
00:24Best thing he can do, Jeff, is get out front and set a pace he can stay with.
00:27Yeah, set a pace that he can sustain and just not have that pressure of having guys like battling you to where it really wears him out.
00:36Oh, we got more riders down!
00:37Christian Craig is right behind him in second place, is that Anderson?
00:40Anderson.
00:41Yes, Anderson El Hombre is down, making his debut in this championship.
00:47I believe that was Devin Simonson and possibly Ryan Breeze down in the first turn.
00:51Caught a glimpse of Joey Savace, looks like he is sitting in fourth right now in the 17 in the black riding gear.
00:57So, the far right through the whoops there.
01:01Timing and scoring has Vince Friese on the start, dead last 16th.
01:06His teammate.
01:08Yeah, I think he got knocked down, Jeff.
01:09Yeah.
01:10Jorge Zaragoza, the rider out of Spain, currently sets six.
01:14Okay, watch the 9-17.
01:177-19 is Friese.
01:19Oh, the bike spins around.
01:20He got caught by the bike, and there he goes.
01:23Oh, there he is, yeah.
01:24Right there.
01:26That's what took Vince to the back.
01:27Do it stop.
01:28No problem, though, for Kid Roxen.
01:30No, Roxen doing a great job right now, the former world champion.
01:33Christian Craig, Joey Savace, second and third, both on the Quadlock Honda, and we talked to
01:43Yariv Konski, the team owner of this Quadlock Honda team, and they brought on Christian Craig
01:51to join Joey Savace.
01:54They have big hopes for both riders, especially in the team competition.
01:58Here's Deegan right here, and he is Deegan, Hayden Deegan, up to eighth on his Monster
02:03Energy Yamaha Star Racing bike, and that, Jeff, is a tremendous ride as we catch a glimpse
02:08of Justin Cooper right here on the 32.
02:12Coop is up to eighth.
02:13He's right behind Deegan on his matching Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing bike.
02:18Two wild cards.
02:19Deegan already up to sixth.
02:22Zaragoza is right in front of him.
02:24That's who he's chasing right now.
02:25There they are, coming at you.
02:26And Justin Cooper, not a great start for him, but certainly one of the riders, being a
02:32wild card, that you really feel like has the speed and the talent to compete for the win.
02:38All right, Jeff, let's watch Hayden Deegan here on that 38.
02:40The blue machine paddling, trying to get around Zaragoza on the start.
02:44That's an electric bike just in front of him, and he's got his teammate, Cooper, coming up
02:49to the inside.
02:50So let's watch his race craft on the 450, Jeff.
02:52You've seen him a bunch on the 250.
02:54How's he doing here as he closes in on Zaragoza on the outside?
02:58Yeah, he closed in on him a little bit, but didn't have the line going into the turn.
03:02Now, the word is that the start, if it does have a little disadvantage, is that it doesn't
03:07get across the whoops as good as the internal combustion engines.
03:12But how is Deegan doing, adjusting to the 450?
03:16Do you like his style as he gets around Zaragoza here?
03:19Oh, he was riding in practice today.
03:21He was riding a 450 like it was a 250.
03:23He was revving the thing out, hitting the rev limiter.
03:27I mean, I think it was second round of practice.
03:30He was fastest.
03:31I mean, this is a lot more bike, right?
03:34There's 200 cc's more displacement.
03:36And Cooper gets around Zaragoza now, too.
03:39So they're now going to move up, both of them.
03:42They will be running sixth and seventh, Deegan and Cooper here.
03:46And look at this lead for Kid Rockson.
03:484.2 seconds over Christian Craig.
03:52Savace about three seconds behind Craig.
03:56Matt Mosty, Australian, still running fourth.
03:58What I love seeing out of Deegan right now, Jeff, he is really flowing.
04:02You can see him doing the big whips, coming over the finish line jump.
04:05He is into it.
04:06Oh, blasting the turns.
04:08Just tough blocks flying everywhere.
04:10He's having fun, isn't he?
04:11Yeah, he's just that type of kid.
04:13He's 19 years old.
04:14He's having the time of his life.
04:16You know, this is the first time that Hayden Deegan has ever been out of the United States?
04:20Yeah.
04:20Ever.
04:21First time out of the country.
04:22Yeah.
04:22Really had a big time over here, taking in the sights.
04:26He has been like the Beatles going on tour.
04:29Oh, here's Justin Cooper.
04:30Here he comes inside of his teammate.
04:34Now, Hayden's going to have to figure out how to get back around him.
04:36But, Jeff, this is one of the things they wanted him to experience in his development.
04:41Get out there.
04:43Run up front with the top riders like a Justin Cooper.
04:46If they get by you, then follow him.
04:48Get right up behind him and see what they do.
04:50Learn from him.
04:51Yeah, Justin Cooper had a terrible run through the whips.
04:54He was down the right side, and Deegan just really blasted there.
04:59Oh, he's trying to make the move on Moss.
05:02As Politelli, Moto Concepts rider, is fourth.
05:06Moss to fifth.
05:08And now Deegan to fifth.
05:11Deegan, just 19 years of age.
05:14Cooper, 28.
05:16Both riders out of America on the Star Racing, or Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha.
05:25You see the 98 of Austin Politelli in that Moto Concepts racing entry.
05:32Politelli sits fourth.
05:33So, Hayden Deegan doing right what they want as he gets around him.
05:37He's inside the top five now, up to fourth.
05:40Running well.
05:41Remember, Jeff, he had that terrible gate pick, had a terrible start.
05:45Was dead last going into the first quarter.
05:47And now Hayden Deegan finds himself up to fourth.
05:50Yeah, it's really impressive.
05:52I mean, watch what he's doing here.
05:54Oh, we just missed him.
05:55He's blasting tough blocks on the outside, just throttling up the Yamaha.
06:00Meanwhile, Ken Roxxon out front, just doing what Ken Roxxon has done so many times.
06:04You give Ken Roxxon a clear track, and he's allowed to ride whatever line he wants.
06:09He makes it look so easy.
06:11He's got a five-and-a-half-second lead.
06:12He ran his last lap of the 54-7, Jeff.
06:16So, I think he's pushing just hard enough.
06:19That's a fairly quick lap time, but not too fast.
06:24Deegan having made up 12 spots already here in this race.
06:2812 positions.
06:30Yeah.
06:30Impressive ride.
06:31Really impressive.
06:32Final lap for Ken Roxxon, who's going to be very happy to see this one come to an end.
06:37He can go back and relax a little bit, hopefully rehydrate some, Jeff.
06:41He'll pick up 10 points and get ready for race number two.
06:44I mean, that's the way to do it if you're Ken Roxxon, right?
06:47Just try to stay in your zone.
06:48Try to conserve energy and ride as efficiently as you can.
06:53Obviously, getting off early in the race with the whole shot makes life so much easier,
06:58but it's only going to get tougher as the night goes on.
07:01This is eight laps.
07:02The next one's eight laps.
07:03Then it's going to be 12 at the end of the night.
07:05The track's getting really slippery.
07:07It's getting difficult.
07:08The whoops are going to be more difficult as the night goes on.
07:11But Ken Roxxon is riding like the champion that he is.
07:15Ken Roxxon doing a tremendous job looking to grab these 10 valuable points.
07:20Here he comes, headed to the checkered flags.
07:23Ken Roxxon lights the candles here in Buenos Aires to take race number one.
07:28Christian Craig will finish in second.
07:31That's an outstanding ride for him.
07:33Joey Savace in a good position in third.
07:35And here he comes.
07:36His 450 debut.
07:38Hayden Deegan will come across the finish line, jump in fourth.
07:42And a big cheer, I got to believe, Jeff, just went up in Temecula, California,
07:46to get the Deegan family home.
07:47Yeah, and he was only 14.7 seconds off of the lead after starting last
07:53and having to pass riders.
07:55That was a really impressive ride for him.
07:58His last lap was a 55.3 quicker than Ken Roxxon.
08:03He was seventh in qualifying practice, didn't make Super Bowl,
08:11had the worst-case pick of the night, passed 12 riders to finish fourth
08:15in his 450 debut, and he's got two more races to go.
08:20I think we're in store for a great night with Hayden Deegan.
08:23And Ken Roxxon as well, Kristen.
08:27Ken, battling a stomach virus all week, but can you maintain,
08:32do you have enough in the tank for two more starts?
08:35I am very surprised, but as of...
