00:00:00market volatility of gold stands out gold just hit a new record $3,500 an ounce and the price
00:00:11of gold has been climbing this is somewhere that economists believe will continue to be a safe
00:00:16haven it is Tony how's it going man good how are you well just hanging in there yeah you got some
00:00:27of that tiny shiny coming in yes good it has all the makings of a good season Parker hey gold price
00:00:34yeah I don't even like to talk about it or look at it me neither because it should be illegal that's
00:00:39how high it is isn't it well then it like goes down $300 and I'm like what's happening and it's
00:00:43like oh it's still up a thousand yes if you want to beef up your piggy bank well that'll be the year
00:00:48whether I want to say the number or not because I keep saying it and not hitting it but um no we're
00:00:54gonna have to start doing 10,000 a year for for a while now that's a lot of bucks you better get
00:00:58with it bring it on you're going big what do you need to do six six and a half if we do more we do
00:01:06more yeah anyway that's all the makings of a good year long as the price stays there yeah no it's good
00:01:12to see you I'm glad you're doing well same to you hopefully the wars are behind us right
00:01:18bye bye
00:01:24Tony and I've known each other for you know 14 years that's wild like 99% of the time it's great
00:01:35that 1% absolutely sucks and he's like one of the biggest on the planet but 99% of the time
00:01:41it's just wonderful maybe 95% 16 years ago three-fifths of an ounce which is about $800 a global
00:01:55financial crash caused gold prices to rock it it's just gold fever to $1,000 an ounce sparking a modern
00:02:07day gold rush it's alive wash the rocks baby but striking it rich proved harder than imagined that's
00:02:15it we're done now breaking news on Wall Street with stocks tumbling gold and safe havens they are surging
00:02:22gold prices have more than tripled to an all-time high $3,500 per ounce we're going gold mining boys
00:02:32hang on with just six months to cash in whoa whoa whoa are we here for a shootout
00:02:42top dogs I don't ask questions I give orders are you gonna behave and underdogs I'm just a delivery
00:02:50boy I don't really give a I just want to get paid collide I got a job offer from Parker
00:02:55look out and play dirty can I trust you on this hi yeah to hit the jackpot holy smokes that's a
00:03:06hell of a pant we joke about it being an addiction but it literally is some you made a mess will not
00:03:13survive pick me out somebody to fire yeah it sucks man it really sucks others soar to new heights
00:03:23there's nothing like making money of your kid sister and set records I was not expecting that
00:03:33pretty amazing yeah 2043 and a half ounces that's wild you get a pan you get a pan you get a pan
00:03:42genuinely that's insane
00:03:45the Yukon North America's last frontier
00:04:05for over a century prospectors have scoured these valleys and creeks for life-changing gold
00:04:14with just a few summer months to make their fortunes the stars are aligned for us the gold price is
00:04:23crazy we've got a ton of ground prep on Dominion and we're gonna be able to stretch our legs and really run and
00:04:31see what it's made out of this is the year that we'll find out 30 year old Parker Schnabel is on the
00:04:40precipice of a career defining season the gold mining prodigy who started out with a crew of two is now a
00:04:48mining mogul with 60 machines and a 40 person crew we've got amazing people and then we have like this
00:04:56crazy gold price and we're dangerously close to things being really good I just want to go to work I just want to
00:05:05wash rocks and you know get sluicy goosey for the tiny shiny that's all I want to do
00:05:11I did not I have not told you how to do your job one time this whole year just 16 years old when he
00:05:19first became a mine boss I'm pretty young and it's tough to you know I never know if I'm doing the
00:05:26right thing or not Parker struggled I'm spending the money here and I make the calls to manage his
00:05:32crew if you can't handle it then maybe this isn't the place for you you are making an enemy out of me
00:05:38but as the young miner grew in gold mining you're only as good as the people you have he evolved
00:05:44oh yeah look at that our season starts now I'll stand behind them any day of the week with a vision
00:05:53that spawned a gold mining empire wow that's the biggest cleanup we've ever had and delivered more
00:06:00than 115 million dollars in gold this is not stop here I'm losing faith in you guys but last season
00:06:12it's been one fight after the next we're not making money we're doing it like this it's frustrating I
00:06:19know what we were doing was wrong Parker crashed and burned worst cleanup ever I don't like this feeling
00:06:29I don't like being a loser we came up short and it's not gonna happen again this winter I have
00:06:38spent all the money I can get my hands on buying equipment and hiring people it's a challenge this
00:06:45is kind of uncharted territory for me so much going on we just have to hammer down focus on washing rocks
00:06:54fill in jars and everybody's gonna have to step up 40 miles southeast of Dawson City lies Parker's
00:07:04Kingdom an area nearly the size of Manhattan his main operation is Dominion Creek land he's bought
00:07:12where he'll run three wash plants to deliver the bulk of his gold 25 miles northwest he'll send a
00:07:20satellite crew to sulfur Creek to hunt for pockets of gold left behind by the old-timers running the
00:07:28enormous operation will cost Parker a hundred thousand dollars each day but if he's successful he could
00:07:36bring in more than 35 million dollars in gold this year what's happening man how are you guys yo yo
00:07:46doing good how are you not too bad welcome to my map room very nice swear it all happens eh how was your
00:07:54winter it was good I uh was a bum for the most part to execute his master plan Parker's counting on his
00:08:04trusted lieutenants Mitch Blaschke and Tyson Lee we're gonna do 10,000 ounces this year
00:08:10like we keep talking about it but we actually have to just do it so we're gonna run four plants this
00:08:21year wow trying to run for wash plants it's like we were all over the place last year trying to
00:08:27cover our bases and like we're gonna be spread out you know how it is when that happens yeah I know I
00:08:34know that there's gonna be a lot of challenges I'm not I don't disagree with you Tyson I need you on
00:08:41Dominion running a whole operation right so good luck thanks I'll need it I don't know what's gonna
00:08:51come out of sulfur and it's gonna be a difficult project so I need you to go over there Mitch and
00:08:56get that sorted out first we only have a partial season on the water license so we need to get it done
00:09:02in a hurry Parker's sulfur water license a permit to pull water from creeks to wash gold expires in
00:09:10just 10 weeks after that he can't mind the claim so what kind of crew do we have to get this done
00:09:16we've hired a bunch of new people okay one big thing is people who can't do their job we need to fire
00:09:24we want to have the best of the best but you guys are the ones that are going to be able to make
00:09:30this happen or not it's brutal right
00:09:33it's going to be a stressful year for you two
00:09:38yeah I know it's a bit of a daunting task but like I'm excited exhausting yeah no days off
00:09:47you just had six months off yeah thanks for coming back yeah I appreciate having you guys
00:09:55here I'm looking forward to this season yeah for sure thanks man all right let's do it
00:09:58there's a lot of work to do there's a lot of gold to find
00:10:04now it's up to Mitch and Tyson to get the job done
00:10:07hopefully
00:10:09the job will get done hopefully it's the two of them that does it that's what I mean
00:10:15things are already starting off a little bit different here Parker made it very clear that
00:10:24you know everybody's got to pull their weight and then some we got no room for air
00:10:28last year Mitch was in charge this year it's going to be on my shoulders
00:10:33last year I was managing one wash plant this year
00:10:37going to be managing three so no cups we got to find a ton of gold
00:10:45Tyson's first mission is to start pulling in gold on Dominion's bridge cut
00:10:50the crew has spent two years mining this spot with mixed results now Parker's season rides on it
00:11:00delivering big but there's a problem over winter water flooded the cut and the gold bearing pay dirt
00:11:08is buried under three feet of solid ice
00:11:11I'm in the 250 got Michael in the 390
00:11:33coming to work for Parker it's kind of the dream come true I like the way he runs his outfit his gears really nice
00:11:42we got Amy here first truckload ice heading out of the cut first of many
00:11:49this is my first time driving a rock truck before they can get to pay dirt Tyson's crew needs to shift over 25,000 tons of ice
00:12:01I think realistically how the hell are we going to do all this in a week
00:12:15right now I'd like to be setting up the wash plant and firing it up today but we're a long ways away from
00:12:22how are things going well man the ice is a lot thicker than we thought eh yeah there's a lot of ice in here
00:12:37and it's really rotten mm-hmm so what's your plan just keep uh building piles trucking off this ice
00:12:44right okay we have extra trucks in the yard no you got any more people any more iron you can give us
00:12:53I don't know okay
00:13:01thanks dude no worries see ya
00:13:06if by the end of the week I don't have the ice out of this cut and the wash plant going
00:13:19will have failed my first task first week of the season
00:13:22Parker just wants the ice out and the wash plant going the long and short of it
00:13:27I don't really want to spend money trucking ice but we really don't have much of an alternative so
00:13:37um we're just gonna have to suck it up we need to get sleuthing that's gonna be what makes or breaks the
00:13:44season
00:13:57yeah here we go I can't believe we're sleuthing as early as we are started a season early but we
00:14:14want to keep that up everybody's in the rut ten miles south at Indian River King of the Klondon
00:14:21Tony beats is already two weeks ahead of his rivals we're giving a and the gold prices in our favor
00:14:28we've been losing days for two weeks we got the early bird cut was all taught ground so that was
00:14:33awesome Tony's hoping for a quick score from the 13 acre early bird cut if the gold price stays where
00:14:43it is and we lose most of the summer like we did last year darn me you're gonna make enough money to
00:14:49set up three generations when there's opportunities there grab it 40 years ago Tony and wife Minnie left
00:14:57the Netherlands to seek their fortune in the Yukon all we have was 300 bucks I work 14 hours a day every
00:15:04day from nothing Tony grew a 60 million dollar mining dynasty I'm trying to build a future for my kids
00:15:13they gotta take over they're gonna have to run the circus all by themselves
00:15:21piece of
00:15:22I've never ever
00:15:23never ever had that much horse here before
00:15:27until two years ago
00:15:29there's six seven million in the hole
00:15:31when the business descended into chaos
00:15:33I've ever seen it up then I'm looking at his family fraction he's running it into the ground he told me this cat was
00:15:42gonna be mine oh really yeah feeling a little shafted shut down the plant
00:15:50you just quit you gotta be hitting me every time I'll tell you one thing I won't give up that easy
00:15:58but the Klondike King pulled his family together our kids are really stepping up this year keeping son Mike and daughter Monica working for him
00:16:09I appreciate everything you're doing to help me anything for family Monica but
00:16:13giving eldest son Kevin the chance to set up his own operation how's that sound to
00:16:18you that sounds very very nice by the end of last season the more you make the
00:16:23better we like you make the beats had reeled in a record five thousand seven
00:16:27hundred and seventy-seven ounces worth fourteen point four million dollars that
00:16:34sure as hell of a lot that didn't last you
00:16:37it is not a time to sit back and enjoy this is a time to get together and get out there in
00:16:44the morning and make things happen you owe that to the next generation people
00:16:49gonna have money people gonna have a lot of things but kids and grandkids there's
00:16:55something that if you don't have that you don't have very much Tony believes his claims could
00:17:02deliver a jaw-dropping sixty five hundred ounces this season worth more than twenty two million
00:17:09dollars
00:17:09hey guys how's it looking well yellow got yellow stuff good thing we started early Mike huh
00:17:18yeah but the sun is shining you better ready to make some hate yeah right especially at this price
00:17:23there you go not only is Tony already sluicing he's the first to weigh out his gold I can always get
00:17:31more gold I cannot always get this price so let's wait and have a look at it
00:17:37hey ready let's go let's wait and have a look at it at Indian River Tony beats is gambling on an
00:17:50early season score to cash in on record high gold prices hey ready let's go he's already sluiced nearly
00:17:59half of the early bird cut 50 60 70 which he's counting on to deliver at least 300 ounces
00:18:0690 to 60 to 90 300 wow 360 390 417 and 56 ain't that a beaut that's pretty amazing in just two weeks
00:18:25weeks the beats have pulled in one and a half million dollars I'd say it's a record for us that justifies
00:18:32as to what we're doing that's a lot of money right there if we can keep this up we go so how have you
00:18:41planned out this summer Mike you're gonna be on the hill as usual Monica it would be nice if you could
00:18:47go see in the gold room cleaning the gold sounds good to me but I was thinking you give Kevin a bunch
00:18:54of help getting him going so is there anything you can help us with there is some opportunities out
00:19:02there let's get these two places here going first and then we'll talk not making any promises until I
00:19:09place right I'm okay with that you there you go so all hands on deck we gotta go
00:19:16I'm very interested to see what Tony was talking about in terms of other opportunities I think
00:19:24it's really cool that Kevin has gone out on his own but Michael's been out here since he was 12. Mike's
00:19:32really chomping the bit to do more things big picture goals I would like my own mind but right
00:19:38now it's not a priority I have a bunch of other I have to get done we'll see like a Monica they
00:19:45be acting about getting started for themselves but right now we're busy other places so they're just
00:19:50gonna have to hang in there for a little bit anyway I never never had that much gold that early a great start
00:19:57to the season
00:20:14100 miles away in keynote Rick Ness that's a big pile of dirt is sitting on a pile of gold at his Duncan
00:20:23Creek claim I would say there's probably pretty damn close to 400 ounces sitting there and right
00:20:29now that's worth over a million dollars and it's ready to go our plants sitting right there the bad
00:20:35news is is we still don't have a water license and we can't touch this blows my mind Rick's water
00:20:42license essential to mining still hasn't come through until he gets it he can't mind Duncan Creek I
00:20:51almost don't even know if I should do this thinking it would make me think it would satisfy me it's
00:20:56probably just gonna make me more mad
00:21:06oh that's outrageous amount of gold in one pan
00:21:10I don't even know what the emotion is right now I normally I see a pan like that and I hit the roof
00:21:15this is uh that's unbelievable and we can't touch it
00:21:30Rick Ness I expected growing pains but this is outrageous
00:21:34is a fighter
00:21:35booyah
00:21:36with a small crew of buddies
00:21:39paying them out each season
00:21:42from his haul
00:21:43here's one of those for each of you guys
00:21:44you guys earned it
00:21:45a miner for 13 years
00:21:47what?
00:21:48he's had highs
00:21:49that's like an ounce right there
00:21:50f**k them, f**k everybody, f**k yourselves
00:21:52and lows
00:21:54no, no, no, no
00:21:56I don't know what else to do right now
00:21:57it's getting out of control
00:21:58always on the brink of losing it all
00:22:01that's one last farewell kick in the balls
00:22:05but last season
00:22:06this is it
00:22:07now this is all mine
00:22:09he bought his own ground
00:22:11let's go
00:22:12Vegas Valley, here we go
00:22:15hit the jackpot
00:22:16and reeled in 4.5 million dollars in gold
00:22:20that's it, I did it
00:22:22I've got some bad news
00:22:24only to be gut punched
00:22:26we've got a big problem with the water license being approved
00:22:28and I can't guarantee you'll have the license next year
00:22:33without the water license you can't mine
00:22:42now, Rick must find a way to pull a rabbit out of the hat
00:22:46again
00:22:48what's up dudes?
00:22:49how are you?
00:22:50nice crushes
00:22:51yeah, you like Jose?
00:22:52good start
00:22:53with nowhere to mine
00:22:55only half Rick's crew has made it back
00:22:58for now
00:23:00well, you guys have seen it all
00:23:02you've seen the good
00:23:03you've seen the bad
00:23:04you've seen the opportunity
00:23:05you've seen the setbacks
00:23:07it's a mess right now
00:23:09it's not just us
00:23:10I mean there's a lot of people getting screwed
00:23:13there's no one shutting the door right now
00:23:14saying that your water license is never coming in
00:23:16it's just tied up
00:23:19so what are we doing here with no water license?
00:23:21it's not the only pile of gold out here
00:23:23and that's why you're here
00:23:24we just have to find another one
00:23:26but it's not going to be on this ground
00:23:32and you know what?
00:23:33gold prices are a thousand dollars more an ounce
00:23:34than when we left here last year
00:23:36I mean that's insanity
00:23:38this is not the year to quit
00:23:39no
00:23:40we need 1800 ounces this year
00:23:42yeah, I know that things seem down
00:23:45but you know what?
00:23:46we are here
00:23:47and I am going to find us a spot
00:23:49at the end of the day
00:23:51that's what we're going to do
00:23:52but if this water license comes through
00:23:53at any point this summer
00:23:54you bet your ass
00:23:55I want to move us back here
00:23:56I mean you haven't let us down yet
00:23:58all right
00:24:00all right
00:24:03hopefully Rick understands what he's doing here
00:24:05and hopefully like wherever we're going
00:24:06it's going to be good
00:24:07I want to start moving some dirt
00:24:09these guys have stuck with me through a lot
00:24:11and glad to see they're sticking with me through this
00:24:12we will find a place to mine
00:24:14and we're going to make it work
00:24:19okay
00:24:28uh Chelsea, you ready?
00:24:29ready
00:24:31Gaiden, you ready?
00:24:32yep ready
00:24:33all right then folks
00:24:35Screen Jack is turning on
00:24:36first time for the season
00:24:37let's go
00:24:38First scoop of pay going in for the season.
00:24:52Get it.
00:24:542025, here comes the goal.
00:24:57At Scribner Creek, just like his father, Tony,
00:25:01second-year mine boss Kevin Beetz is ahead of the pack.
00:25:05Feels really good to sluice this early.
00:25:07Especially after last year, it's nice to see it f***ing running.
00:25:15So you want to look at some iron, do you?
00:25:17Can we have this one?
00:25:18Last season, with a little help from Dad...
00:25:21Three, two, one.
00:25:24Woo! Yeah!
00:25:26Kevin plunged his life savings into his own operation.
00:25:29This is a big gamble, so me and Faith have to make this work.
00:25:33It's looking really nice, Kev.
00:25:35So excited, bud.
00:25:36Overall, I think it's a pretty good f***ing day.
00:25:38But almost from the get-go...
00:25:40I'm trying to help you here, and you're talking over me.
00:25:43...tempers flared.
00:25:44You can stop being an a**hole.
00:25:46It's not fun to work with.
00:25:48...until foreman Brennan Ruo took control of the crew.
00:25:52You don't want to f***ing hear it?
00:25:54Oh, he squashed the right f***ing help.
00:25:56And the cuts.
00:25:59Yes, finally!
00:26:01Much f***ing better.
00:26:02So nice work. Keep her going.
00:26:05Helping them score.
00:26:06That's a big old.
00:26:08You're f***ing beautiful.
00:26:09A big payday.
00:26:11Yay, money!
00:26:12It's nice to be in the upswing, honestly.
00:26:13We made the right call of getting away from Tony's.
00:26:20I'm feeling really good about this year.
00:26:21I think we're off to a strong start.
00:26:24Which is good, because we have a big goal this year, 2,000 ounces.
00:26:28Figured we may as well go double what we did last year, aim big.
00:26:30And with gold prices being as high as they are,
00:26:32if there's any time to have a good, big year for gold totals,
00:26:36it is this f***ing year.
00:26:38Kevin's mission this year is to double his gold target
00:26:41and cement his place as a mine boss in his own right.
00:26:46So our mining plan, we left ourselves a P-bank last year.
00:26:49That way we have money coming in from day one.
00:26:55So day one's losing.
00:26:57This is going to hopefully continue on well.
00:27:00Last year, I was pretty frustrated out here
00:27:04with how much we're shutting down.
00:27:06But Brennan, he knows what he's doing.
00:27:10It's nice having Tayden back.
00:27:12It's always good to have returners who know how things run
00:27:15and, you know, you can rely on them.
00:27:17And Brennan should be showing up soon.
00:27:22Oh, it feels good to be back in the Yukon.
00:27:25This feels like my second home.
00:27:30Howdy, stranger.
00:27:36How's it going, guys?
00:27:37Oh, it's his f***ing head.
00:27:38You're right on.
00:27:38We're wondering where the f*** you're at.
00:27:40Nice to see you, pal.
00:27:44So, what's up?
00:27:45We're starting to wonder.
00:27:45We haven't heard from you in a bit.
00:27:46So, yeah, um, um, um, I ended up getting a phone call there
00:27:55that I wasn't expecting to get, um, of another job offer.
00:28:02Um, and, uh, it was a pretty good job offer,
00:28:08so I've leaned towards taking that position.
00:28:12Who offered you the job?
00:28:21Well, Parker ended up calling me there,
00:28:23which I was completely not expecting.
00:28:27Same.
00:28:29Yeah, um...
00:28:31Really?
00:28:32Back with Parker?
00:28:34It was not, you know, there's just a few things in the offer
00:28:37that really align to what my future,
00:28:39where I kind of see myself being in some goals
00:28:40to have set, you know what I mean?
00:28:42No.
00:28:46I wish he at least told us earlier so that we can plan.
00:28:50If I had have known a lot sooner,
00:28:52I would have said it a lot sooner, right?
00:28:56Ugh.
00:28:56There's not really much we can offer you
00:28:57to get you back here this year, I guess, eh?
00:28:59I've kind of already agreed to it.
00:29:02F***.
00:29:07Well, thank you for stopping by
00:29:09telling us some f***ing wrestling.
00:29:10Hey, guys.
00:29:11Well, you guys have a wicked season.
00:29:12We'll see ya.
00:29:13See ya.
00:29:18Well then.
00:29:212,000 ounces without the foreman
00:29:22is going to be
00:29:23a bit more of a project then, isn't it?
00:29:26It is going to hurt to find someone
00:29:27with Brennan's experience
00:29:28that you can rely on.
00:29:29If they're good, they've got a job.
00:29:32Maybe we should go poaching too.
00:29:36Hmm.
00:29:36We're down to the last bit of ice here
00:29:52in the bridge.
00:29:53Once we get that out of here,
00:29:55that means I can start
00:29:57getting Bob ready to sluice.
00:29:59Three days into his ice-moving marathon,
00:30:03Tyson's under the gun.
00:30:06Parker's given me,
00:30:08and I've taken on more
00:30:09than I've ever taken on
00:30:11working here before.
00:30:12Can I do it?
00:30:13I don't know.
00:30:14But am I willing to find out?
00:30:16Yeah, it could have cost me my job.
00:30:18100%.
00:30:19But I hope it doesn't.
00:30:23If it does,
00:30:24I'll be flipping burgers.
00:30:25Come visit me at the drive-thru.
00:30:28And yes,
00:30:28I will be spitting in them.
00:30:33A 25-mile drive northwest.
00:30:36I'm down here at Sulphur
00:30:37just trying to get this cut opened up.
00:30:40This cut's 2,000 feet long.
00:30:43They got probably big enough
00:30:44to land a small airplane on.
00:30:49For a lot of miners,
00:30:51this would be their whole season
00:30:52with multiple people working on it.
00:30:54And right now,
00:30:54I'm down here jumping
00:30:55from the dozer to the excavator,
00:30:57back and forth, ripping.
00:30:59Mitch has a 2-acre strip
00:31:01to mine out in just 10 weeks
00:31:03before Parker's water license runs out.
00:31:06If he fails,
00:31:08he'll be forced to leave gold behind.
00:31:10The time frame down here
00:31:11is definitely my biggest concern.
00:31:13This water license
00:31:14is getting closer to expire
00:31:16by the minute,
00:31:17and yet I'm the only one
00:31:18down here.
00:31:27What do we got here?
00:31:35Oh, hey, man.
00:31:36What's up?
00:31:37Not much, my friend.
00:31:38How are you?
00:31:40Busy.
00:31:41Good to see you, pal.
00:31:42Come on.
00:31:43I'll give you one.
00:31:44Oh, just don't let nobody,
00:31:48don't tell anybody that.
00:31:48Yeah, keep that
00:31:49off the radio.
00:31:52What's your plans?
00:31:54Well, Parker poached me.
00:31:55He sent me up here
00:31:56to come to work with you.
00:31:58No way, man.
00:31:59Yeah, buddy.
00:32:01All right.
00:32:01He said to me specifically,
00:32:03you and Mitch
00:32:04work so good together,
00:32:05I want to get that band back together.
00:32:06He got the exact words
00:32:07out of his mouth.
00:32:08Dude, that's awesome.
00:32:09Yeah.
00:32:09I can't believe
00:32:10you didn't tell me.
00:32:14Brennan and Mitch
00:32:15were mining buddies
00:32:18on Parker's
00:32:19Scribner Creek claim.
00:32:21Yeah, buddy.
00:32:22Yeah.
00:32:23Nice work.
00:32:23Yeah, you too, man.
00:32:24They became co-formin.
00:32:26That is perfect.
00:32:28And a bromance blossomed.
00:32:29Are we good?
00:32:30What a nice feeling.
00:32:32Brennan, hurry up.
00:32:33You've had five days
00:32:34to get this done.
00:32:36for sakes.
00:32:37Are you in charge
00:32:38or are you not in charge?
00:32:39Until five years ago
00:32:40when Brennan quit
00:32:42after falling out
00:32:43with Parker.
00:32:45So over this
00:32:46bullseye, man.
00:32:48Dude, we've moved
00:32:48a lot of dirt
00:32:49and this year,
00:32:50let me tell you what,
00:32:50we got more than ever.
00:32:52I could certainly
00:32:53use some help.
00:32:54Well, that's what
00:32:54I'm here for.
00:32:55You can jump in the dozer.
00:32:56We just got to rip this edge.
00:32:57I'm going to start
00:32:58throwing everything back.
00:32:59Okay, well,
00:32:59I'm excited, buddy.
00:33:03Time to move some dirt.
00:33:13Dude, it's unreal
00:33:14to have you back here.
00:33:15Christmas came early.
00:33:18In all the years,
00:33:18I begot,
00:33:19I've missed working
00:33:20with you every
00:33:20day of it, buddy.
00:33:22Oh, you're probably back
00:33:23because you heard
00:33:23we got taco Tuesday.
00:33:25You didn't mention
00:33:26you guys got
00:33:27a really good cook,
00:33:28so that was
00:33:28a big plus for me.
00:33:33Oh, that looks
00:33:37like Parker.
00:33:45How's it going?
00:33:46Hey, welcome back.
00:33:47Thanks, pal.
00:33:49Okay.
00:33:50The whole sulfur project
00:33:51is kind of an interesting
00:33:52one because it's really
00:33:53hard to see
00:33:54what is pay
00:33:55and what is waste.
00:33:57What you're really
00:33:57looking for is
00:33:58virgin banks
00:33:59or like virgin
00:34:00sections.
00:34:04This, to me,
00:34:04looks like virgin
00:34:05still, right?
00:34:07So you're forced
00:34:09to pan your way
00:34:11through it
00:34:11and see what's going on.
00:34:13This is a totally
00:34:14different type of mine
00:34:15than this, see?
00:34:18Three quarters
00:34:18of a century ago,
00:34:20old timers used
00:34:21to dredge
00:34:22to mine
00:34:22sulfur creek,
00:34:24pulling out
00:34:24more than
00:34:251.2 billion dollars
00:34:27in gold.
00:34:28But in its wake,
00:34:30it left a mystery.
00:34:32Floating in a
00:34:32self-made pond,
00:34:34the dredge
00:34:34traveled its way
00:34:35down the valley,
00:34:37sluicing from
00:34:37one side
00:34:38to the other.
00:34:39But above the waterline,
00:34:41the high banks
00:34:42were out of reach,
00:34:43so gold
00:34:44was left untouched.
00:34:46And where
00:34:47the dredge
00:34:48turned,
00:34:49it covered up
00:34:49pockets of gold-rich
00:34:51virgin ground
00:34:52with worthless
00:34:53tailings,
00:34:54making sulfur
00:34:55a potential
00:34:56treasure trove
00:34:57of hidden gold.
00:35:00If
00:35:01they can find it.
00:35:03It's just going
00:35:03to take some time
00:35:04to figure out.
00:35:04Like, I would be
00:35:05panning pretty
00:35:06constantly.
00:35:08Perfect.
00:35:09Sounds good to me.
00:35:10Okay.
00:35:15We got so much
00:35:17water coming
00:35:17through here.
00:35:18We got all this
00:35:19material we need
00:35:19to start moving
00:35:20it over.
00:35:20We need it dry.
00:35:21If we start
00:35:22just working this,
00:35:23it's just going
00:35:24to get wetter
00:35:24and wetter.
00:35:25We're not dredging.
00:35:27So I want to just
00:35:28focus on the ditch
00:35:29here.
00:35:30Yeah, okay.
00:35:31I mean, I agree
00:35:31with you, but I just,
00:35:32what about Parker,
00:35:33you know?
00:35:34Yeah, but, I mean,
00:35:36if we just start
00:35:36digging in here,
00:35:37we're going to be
00:35:37working underwater.
00:35:39Despite Parker's
00:35:40rush to find
00:35:41the gold,
00:35:42Mitch ignores his
00:35:43orders to pan
00:35:44and decides to dig
00:35:45a ditch to drain
00:35:47the water.
00:35:47The first thing
00:35:48we got to do
00:35:48and we're going to do
00:35:49is get rid of this
00:35:49water.
00:35:50All right.
00:35:57It's going really
00:35:58good.
00:36:00I've got the ditch,
00:36:01you know, all the way
00:36:01to the top end of this
00:36:02cut, which was 2,000
00:36:04feet long, and the cut's
00:36:06starting to drain out.
00:36:08At Sulphur Creek,
00:36:10Mitch has defied
00:36:11Parker's orders to hunt
00:36:13for virgin hotspots
00:36:14and is ditching
00:36:15instead.
00:36:17Parker's planning
00:36:18on coming down today
00:36:18and doing some
00:36:19panning here,
00:36:20but we've got a lot
00:36:21of material that's still
00:36:22got to be moved here
00:36:23before it's ready to have
00:36:24Parker have a look
00:36:25at this and see
00:36:25what he wants to do.
00:36:35Just hoping to have
00:36:36all this ready by now.
00:36:40What the
00:36:41are you doing?
00:36:43Well, this is not good.
00:36:46What's happening?
00:36:49I thought you might
00:36:50need some panning,
00:36:51but I take it not
00:36:53right now.
00:36:54Yeah.
00:36:56The most important thing,
00:36:56just trying to get rid
00:36:57of the water here
00:36:58so we can actually
00:36:58move the dirt.
00:37:00We've got a pretty
00:37:00good system down.
00:37:02We're just trying to get
00:37:02that corner cleaned out
00:37:03and then we'll be ready
00:37:05for it.
00:37:08There's a lot of work
00:37:09to do here.
00:37:11I mean,
00:37:11I just got Brandon
00:37:12yesterday, so...
00:37:17There are two options.
00:37:21Find some virgin ground
00:37:22or else you can leave.
00:37:29Okay, that's a waste of
00:37:30nothing.
00:37:33Yeah.
00:37:35Ah.
00:37:40You know, gold can buy
00:37:46a lot of things,
00:37:47but it can't buy patience,
00:37:48and the higher the prices
00:37:49go, you know,
00:37:50the less of that
00:37:51there seems to be
00:37:51around here.
00:37:53Parker wants things done
00:37:54in a certain way and order,
00:37:55and I get that.
00:37:56It's his business.
00:37:56It's his company.
00:37:58You know, I've moved
00:37:58a lot of dirt up here,
00:37:59and, you know,
00:38:00I'm confident
00:38:01in what I'm doing.
00:38:02Got the ditches down.
00:38:04We got the cut grain in,
00:38:05and, you know,
00:38:07in my opinion,
00:38:07that's the right move.
00:38:09I just wasted two hours.
00:38:13I just need to get in hand.
00:38:18It's my first week
00:38:19back on the job.
00:38:20I haven't worked for Parker
00:38:21for over five years now,
00:38:22and, you know,
00:38:23he's already pissed off.
00:38:24This is the type of
00:38:25that made me leave
00:38:26the last time.
00:38:29A hundred miles east.
00:38:40We're going to have to pull
00:38:41the trigger on something,
00:38:41otherwise we're going to
00:38:42miss this whole season.
00:38:43Still waiting for his water
00:38:44license and desperate
00:38:46for somewhere to mine,
00:38:48Rick's on his way
00:38:48to prospect new ground
00:38:50at a nearby claim,
00:38:52Lightning Creek.
00:38:53You can go to any mine out here
00:38:54and listen to the guy
00:38:55tell you how much gold
00:38:56is on the property,
00:38:56but which one's
00:38:57telling the truth?
00:38:58Not a single
00:38:58one of them,
00:38:59so if we're going to get
00:39:00any answers up there,
00:39:01it's going to be our own.
00:39:02Rick's mining
00:39:03in the Keno Mountains
00:39:04has been boom or bust.
00:39:07The unpredictable ground
00:39:08almost bankrupted him
00:39:10six years ago
00:39:11until he hit the honey hole
00:39:13at Duncan Creek.
00:39:14We do our own testing
00:39:15and see what we find,
00:39:16and we know
00:39:17we can trust that.
00:39:19Rick's found gold
00:39:20on his Duncan Creek claim
00:39:22in two spots.
00:39:23Now, he's hoping
00:39:25the pay streak extends
00:39:26to the Lightning Creek claim
00:39:28eight miles upstream
00:39:30near the gold motherlode
00:39:32at Mount Hinton.
00:39:34Lightning Creek
00:39:35is owned by Rick's
00:39:36old landlord,
00:39:37Troy Taylor.
00:39:39Ah, there he is.
00:39:43Hey, guys.
00:39:45Hey, Troy.
00:39:45How's it going?
00:39:46Good to see you.
00:39:46Good to see you.
00:39:47Hey, Troy.
00:39:48Welcome to Lightning Creek.
00:39:50We're ready to hit
00:39:51the ground running,
00:39:52get some gold
00:39:52out of the ground.
00:39:53Six seasons ago...
00:39:55Our deal is 10%
00:39:57for 100 ounce minimum.
00:39:59Rick leased Duncan Creek
00:40:01from landowner Troy Taylor.
00:40:03Ah, that's nice-looking
00:40:04gold there, Rick.
00:40:05Then cut a handshake deal
00:40:07to buy the claim.
00:40:09Thanks, Rick.
00:40:09Appreciate that.
00:40:10Gambling millions of dollars...
00:40:12I'm sure you're happy
00:40:13to see that.
00:40:14...on the promise
00:40:14of a gold bonanza.
00:40:16Holy s***.
00:40:17This is your last
00:40:20s*** chance.
00:40:22It was a rocky ride,
00:40:23but finally,
00:40:25the deal was done,
00:40:26bar one crucial detail.
00:40:29I have to trust
00:40:30that that water license
00:40:31is going to come through.
00:40:32Yeah.
00:40:32You're all in.
00:40:34Yeah.
00:40:34Mm-hmm.
00:40:35All in.
00:40:36It was on Troy
00:40:38to get the water license
00:40:40for Rick,
00:40:40but now that it
00:40:41hasn't come through,
00:40:43he might have other ground
00:40:44for Rick to kick the tires on.
00:40:46Looks like you've done
00:40:46a little bit of work here,
00:40:47right?
00:40:47A little bit, yeah.
00:40:49Dad and I did some
00:40:49sluice in last September,
00:40:52so, yeah.
00:40:52Just you and your dad,
00:40:53pretty much, right?
00:40:53Yeah, just Dad and I.
00:40:54But what was the gold like?
00:40:55I mean, is it decent or...?
00:40:57Yeah, it was decent.
00:40:58The gold is good here.
00:41:00We had some good results
00:41:00last fall.
00:41:01Dad and I did some testing
00:41:02and we're pleased.
00:41:04Lightning is just like
00:41:05Upper Duncan
00:41:05in the sense that it's
00:41:07flowing through a canyon.
00:41:09Hopefully, gold has been
00:41:10flushed out of those canyons,
00:41:12like Upper Duncan,
00:41:12into this main valley.
00:41:13How much overburden
00:41:15is on top of, like...?
00:41:16It's not bad.
00:41:17It's just about five feet
00:41:18of muck and sand.
00:41:20Right to pay, then.
00:41:22Well, that's it, eh?
00:41:22Yeah.
00:41:23And I would just take
00:41:24about 15 feet
00:41:25and then we get into another,
00:41:27it's kind of like
00:41:27a false bedrock
00:41:28and that's where
00:41:29I would stop for now.
00:41:30So the pay layer
00:41:31was 15 feet?
00:41:32Yeah.
00:41:33That's more than I expected.
00:41:35I know that we're not
00:41:36the only ones fighting
00:41:37this water license stuff
00:41:38this year.
00:41:38What's the deal
00:41:39with this one here?
00:41:39How many more years
00:41:40are on it?
00:41:41Yeah, that's a good question.
00:41:42This is good
00:41:43until 2028,
00:41:44so you've got
00:41:45a few more years here
00:41:46and we do.
00:41:48Why give us the option?
00:41:49I mean, it's just, you know,
00:41:50why aren't you doing it?
00:41:56Well, I feel bad
00:41:57about this whole water license thing,
00:41:58so I want to give you a shot here.
00:42:00and dad and I can step aside
00:42:03for a year
00:42:04if you want to go here, so.
00:42:07There's no cost
00:42:07on the royalty.
00:42:09Yeah, there's no,
00:42:10it's a lot less risk for us,
00:42:11so.
00:42:12And I don't want to sound
00:42:13like a salesman,
00:42:13but there is other people
00:42:14that have been
00:42:15calling me over the winter,
00:42:16so.
00:42:19But I've been holding
00:42:21on to this for you,
00:42:21so I'm hoping
00:42:23that we can work something out.
00:42:24Yeah.
00:42:24Yeah.
00:42:27You know,
00:42:27I mean, I,
00:42:28I,
00:42:28can I trust you on this?
00:42:31Oh, I,
00:42:32yeah.
00:42:33We've been, what,
00:42:34six years now together,
00:42:35so.
00:42:36Yeah.
00:42:36I think, uh.
00:42:37I mean, I just,
00:42:38there's no,
00:42:39been no,
00:42:39no shortage
00:42:40of surprises out here.
00:42:41I can't wait
00:42:43too much longer.
00:42:44Dad and I,
00:42:45we're going to keep mining
00:42:45or get somebody else
00:42:47in here, so.
00:42:48No, I understand that.
00:42:49So we got the trauma
00:42:50here today,
00:42:51so we get some testing done
00:42:52and try to make a decision
00:42:54as quick as we can,
00:42:55so.
00:42:57Let's do it.
00:42:59It's definitely getting
00:43:00harder to trust people
00:43:01out here.
00:43:01You know,
00:43:01gold's at a premium,
00:43:02water licenses are rare
00:43:04as can be.
00:43:05The vultures are circling.
00:43:07Troy,
00:43:07he always seems to have
00:43:08the answers when I don't.
00:43:09So it's a,
00:43:10you know,
00:43:10it's a win-win
00:43:11for Troy.
00:43:12Troy.
00:43:23We need this to work out
00:43:24because we need to get
00:43:25somewhere to go mining
00:43:25and we need to quit.
00:43:32Still waiting
00:43:33for his water license,
00:43:36Rick Ness
00:43:37has to move
00:43:37his operation
00:43:38and is hoping
00:43:39new ground
00:43:40at Lightning Creek
00:43:41will be worth it.
00:43:43We've already done
00:43:43a couple of test holes,
00:43:44but I want to do
00:43:45one more here.
00:43:47There's a lot of big bullies
00:43:48down to this.
00:43:50Could be nice stuff.
00:43:51Troy Taylor
00:43:52has already stripped
00:43:53a section down
00:43:54to pay dirt,
00:43:55so Rick's making
00:43:56spot checks
00:43:57on the stripped ground.
00:43:58He'll run
00:43:59two square yards
00:44:00of pay
00:44:00and is looking
00:44:01for at least
00:44:02a gram from the run.
00:44:04By the sounds of Troy,
00:44:05that, you know,
00:44:05it's looking pretty good here.
00:44:06But I have kind
00:44:08of some doubts here,
00:44:09but at the same time,
00:44:10I really hope
00:44:11this is going
00:44:11to turn out for us.
00:44:21That should be
00:44:22a good enough speed.
00:44:23Yeah, for sure.
00:44:25Yeah, I'll go get
00:44:25the water going.
00:44:26Okay.
00:44:32Hey, Ricky.
00:44:33We're ready for you
00:44:34to throw some in
00:44:34if you want.
00:44:35I'll give her a shot.
00:44:36This bucket's kind of big.
00:44:37I'll probably make a mess.
00:44:46It's lush
00:44:47and the rock's really nice,
00:44:48so hopefully
00:44:49it gives us good breeding.
00:44:55That's the last of the turn.
00:44:56That's how we got
00:44:56our chest done.
00:44:57We'll have to clean it up
00:44:58and then get the hell
00:44:59out of here and weigh it
00:44:59and see what we got.
00:45:03Shut her down,
00:45:03clean her up.
00:45:04Yeah, man.
00:45:04Okay, let's do it.
00:45:07It doesn't have to be
00:45:07hot, but it's got to be
00:45:09hot enough for a slice.
00:45:19Let's go.
00:45:21Let's go.
00:45:21Oh, hello, hello.
00:45:22Back at camp,
00:45:24the fate of Rick's season
00:45:25rests on the results
00:45:26of the Lightning Creek test.
00:45:28Some nice pickers
00:45:29in there.
00:45:30Yeah.
00:45:30If the gold is good,
00:45:32it could be
00:45:33the lifeline he needs.
00:45:36What's the ground
00:45:37like down there?
00:45:37It's pretty shallow.
00:45:39Seems like only about
00:45:40an average of about
00:45:41five feet overburden,
00:45:42maybe a little bit more,
00:45:43and then a solid
00:45:4415-foot thick pale air.
00:45:46Well, that's pretty good.
00:45:47That's a really good,
00:45:48you know, ratio.
00:45:49I don't expect it
00:45:50to pay out like
00:45:50Vegas Valley,
00:45:51but who knows?
00:45:54Shall we see
00:45:54if it's even worth it?
00:45:55We shall.
00:45:56Weigh some gold.
00:45:56All right.
00:45:59I don't think
00:46:00I've ever weighed up
00:46:01this small amount
00:46:01of gold,
00:46:02but let's get it all in there.
00:46:03Rick wants at least
00:46:05a gram
00:46:05from his two-yard run.
00:46:07All right.
00:46:07All right.
00:46:07All right.
00:46:20We got .525 on there.
00:46:22Just half what Rick
00:46:26was hoping for.
00:46:28So was it worth it?
00:46:33No.
00:46:37We're going to be
00:46:38sitting here
00:46:38with our hands out,
00:46:39no place to mine.
00:46:41We're screwed.
00:46:42We had a super fast
00:46:55start to the season.
00:46:56We have cleanups
00:46:57and a couple bucks
00:46:58in the bank.
00:46:59A hundred miles away,
00:47:01Tony Beetz
00:47:01has already banked
00:47:02$1.5 million
00:47:04in gold.
00:47:06There is more pressure
00:47:07on Mike this year.
00:47:08I mean,
00:47:08Mike has been
00:47:09running Paradise Hill
00:47:10like it's his,
00:47:10but it's not his.
00:47:11It's still mine.
00:47:12So maybe we'll have
00:47:14to do something with him.
00:47:15He wants a piece
00:47:16of the action too.
00:47:18Once he has
00:47:18the hill up running,
00:47:20well,
00:47:20then we'll just see
00:47:21what we can pull off.
00:47:24Tony's mining operation
00:47:25is split between
00:47:27two claims,
00:47:28Indian River,
00:47:29where he's already
00:47:30sluicing pay
00:47:31from the early bird cut,
00:47:33and 40 miles away,
00:47:35Paradise Hill,
00:47:36the core of the family
00:47:37business
00:47:38for over 30 years.
00:47:39Hey, Mike,
00:47:41D-copy, Mike,
00:47:42D-copy.
00:47:43Try the kitchen,
00:47:44would you please?
00:47:47Hey, Mike,
00:47:48how are you?
00:47:48Oh, good,
00:47:49yourself?
00:47:50No complaints.
00:47:53Last year,
00:47:54I was back
00:47:54and forth a bit,
00:47:55but this year,
00:47:56you won't see
00:47:56very much of me.
00:47:57You got lots to do here.
00:47:59I know.
00:47:59But I got quite a pile
00:48:00going on in the Indian too.
00:48:02With this gold price,
00:48:03we don't get on it,
00:48:04boy,
00:48:04I tell you.
00:48:05Let's get it on the go.
00:48:08Get down the pay door
00:48:09this week.
00:48:10That seems a little
00:48:11excessive.
00:48:12Oh, really?
00:48:15Step up to the plate.
00:48:16Yeah.
00:48:18Make some money
00:48:18so I can spend some more.
00:48:19How's that?
00:48:20Don't worry, Dad.
00:48:21I'll help you with that.
00:48:22Yeah, anyway, Mike,
00:48:23I can't shoot
00:48:25and sit around there
00:48:26like you do.
00:48:26I got to go to work.
00:48:27Well, if you did your job
00:48:28better,
00:48:28you'd have more time.
00:48:29Oh, yeah?
00:48:29F*** off, Mike.
00:48:31I'm leaving.
00:48:31See you later.
00:48:33Catch you later, Dad.
00:48:34Yeah, love you too.
00:48:38My gold
00:48:39do my job well
00:48:40and get the results
00:48:42my dad wants.
00:48:43So I'm going to get
00:48:44as much gold
00:48:44as I can this year.
00:48:46Because with the prices
00:48:47as they are,
00:48:48you're a f***ing moron
00:48:49if you don't take
00:48:50advantage of that.
00:48:52While Tony's based
00:48:53at Indian River,
00:48:54he's giving Mike
00:48:55sole charge
00:48:56of Paradise Hill,
00:48:58entrusting him
00:48:59with a nine-man crew
00:49:00to supersize
00:49:01the super pit.
00:49:03More responsibility,
00:49:04more authority.
00:49:05I want to focus
00:49:06on stripping
00:49:06before I get sluicing
00:49:07so that I can just,
00:49:09when I get sluicing,
00:49:10I don't stop.
00:49:14Over the last three years,
00:49:16the Beetz family
00:49:17has cleared out
00:49:18nearly four million tons
00:49:20of worthless overburden,
00:49:22creating an 18-acre
00:49:24super pit.
00:49:26The cut is home
00:49:27to the Klondike's
00:49:28fabled white-channel pay.
00:49:30Concentrated gold
00:49:32washed down directly
00:49:33from hard rock deposits.
00:49:35So far,
00:49:36it's produced
00:49:37over 4,000 ounces
00:49:39of gold
00:49:39worth $15 million.
00:49:42This year,
00:49:43Mike plans
00:49:44to extend the cut
00:49:45by nearly 50%,
00:49:47opening up
00:49:48eight more acres
00:49:49of ground.
00:49:50Tony wants
00:49:51the first acre
00:49:52down to pay
00:49:53by the end
00:49:53of the week.
00:50:01We're going to have
00:50:02a whole whack load
00:50:03of stuff opened up,
00:50:04so we have a lot
00:50:05of work ahead of us.
00:50:08My dad bought
00:50:09six new trucks.
00:50:11We're going to strip,
00:50:11strip, strip, strip,
00:50:12strip, strip, strip.
00:50:14Another year
00:50:15at Paradise.
00:50:16I'm glad to be back.
00:50:17We've got brand-new
00:50:18rock trucks.
00:50:19Just hauling overburden
00:50:20from the cut
00:50:20we're trying to expand.
00:50:23To get down
00:50:24to the gold-bearing
00:50:25pay lane,
00:50:26a D-11 dozer
00:50:27rips and pushes
00:50:28the worthless
00:50:29waste dirt
00:50:30called overburden
00:50:31to two excavators,
00:50:33which load it
00:50:34into rock trucks,
00:50:35haul it 2,000 feet away,
00:50:37and dump it
00:50:38on the waste pile.
00:50:42Hopefully get
00:50:42sluice in here
00:50:43in Paradise soon,
00:50:45get that gold
00:50:45coming in.
00:50:50Guys, guys, guys,
00:50:59we've got a problem.
00:50:59We've got a problem.
00:51:00The cab truck has flipped.
00:51:01The cab of the cab truck
00:51:02has flipped.
00:51:04Oh,
00:51:05I'm stuck in here.
00:51:09Right on the edge.
00:51:17Oh,
00:51:18I'm stuck in here.
00:51:26Oh,
00:51:26my
00:51:26I honestly don't want
00:51:28to touch it.
00:51:29Right on the edge.
00:51:30At Paradise Hill,
00:51:32a brand-new
00:51:33$750,000
00:51:35rock truck
00:51:36has flipped
00:51:36with driver
00:51:37Graham trapped
00:51:38inside the cab,
00:51:40hanging on the edge
00:51:41of a 200-foot drop.
00:51:43This side is just
00:51:44I wish Mike could
00:51:47hurry up,
00:51:47because if the bank
00:51:48starts to go.
00:51:50This is not the circus
00:51:50I signed up for.
00:51:53If I still have
00:51:54all my windows,
00:51:55you still have
00:51:56all your windows,
00:51:57yes.
00:51:59Ah.
00:52:03Oh,
00:52:03the exhaust.
00:52:05The hoses are pretty
00:52:06cold, too.
00:52:08Oh,
00:52:09my hood's
00:52:09breaking our
00:52:10new truck
00:52:11right away.
00:52:12It's slowly
00:52:13dropping more and more,
00:52:14which is a little
00:52:15nerve-wracking.
00:52:17Ah.
00:52:18As long as you get me
00:52:19pulled out of here
00:52:20before I flip.
00:52:22Okay.
00:52:23Well,
00:52:24you can't get out.
00:52:25Too big.
00:52:33Hey, Mike!
00:52:36Well, what the
00:52:37is he still in there?
00:52:38Yeah.
00:52:39He won't fit through
00:52:41that window.
00:52:42If he could double
00:52:42his size,
00:52:43he wouldn't fit.
00:52:43Rescue him,
00:52:44for sake.
00:52:45We're supposed
00:52:46to be pin-charge.
00:52:48Kick out the window.
00:52:51Make him stand
00:52:51on the steering wheel,
00:52:52stick his head
00:52:53out the window,
00:52:54kick the thing in.
00:52:55That way his eyes
00:52:56and ears
00:52:57and everything
00:52:57will be fine.
00:52:58Get his fat ass out.
00:53:00Okay, you ready,
00:53:01Graham?
00:53:01I guess so.
00:53:02Holy crap.
00:53:25Okay, you can try
00:53:27climbing up the seat
00:53:28there.
00:53:28Well.
00:53:37Feels good to be out,
00:53:38but still a little,
00:53:39a little shaky.
00:53:41Yeah.
00:53:43Glad it didn't go
00:53:44over the edge fully.
00:53:44That's,
00:53:46wow.
00:53:48Could be fired,
00:53:48could not be,
00:53:49depending on the mood.
00:53:50Hey, Mike!
00:53:51Put it on the grass.
00:53:53To set the 36-ton truck
00:53:55back on its wheels,
00:53:57Tony and Mike
00:53:57use the 520-horsepower
00:54:00D-10 dozer,
00:54:01while the 480 excavator
00:54:05holds the box in place
00:54:06to stop it dropping
00:54:08over the edge.
00:54:09Glad we pulled it.
00:54:14Pull it.
00:54:16Keep it going.
00:54:16Keep it going.
00:54:20Perfect.
00:54:21I'm very sorry,
00:54:26Tony.
00:54:27I know,
00:54:28I'm not really thinking
00:54:29anything I do about it
00:54:30because you're on the frost
00:54:31and they're slippery.
00:54:32I still feel bad
00:54:33since it's a brand new truck.
00:54:34Well, that doesn't,
00:54:35not the happens,
00:54:36my man.
00:54:37I was expecting him
00:54:38to be a little bit more
00:54:39aggravated.
00:54:41I flipped one of the new ones.
00:54:42There's no use
00:54:43firing people
00:54:44at this and that
00:54:45because when you fire
00:54:46somebody,
00:54:47there's two people
00:54:47that lose.
00:54:48I lose an employee,
00:54:49he loses his job.
00:54:52It's too bad
00:54:53we had to break the window,
00:54:54but so it is,
00:54:54I guess, right?
00:54:56Yeah.
00:54:57I'll be the hood,
00:54:57be the fender,
00:54:58I'll be the railing,
00:54:59I'll be the f***.
00:55:00Nobody hurt,
00:55:01that's always a big thing.
00:55:02Yeah.
00:55:03For Mike,
00:55:04it's now a fight
00:55:05to hit pay dirt
00:55:06by the end of the week
00:55:08with one less truck
00:55:09and show Tony
00:55:10he can run Paradise Hill
00:55:11on his own.
00:55:14It's an awful s***.
00:55:15You want to prove yourself?
00:55:17I suggest you get rid of it.
00:55:28Brennan and I
00:55:29are trying to get
00:55:30as much ground
00:55:30to open up
00:55:31down here at Sulphur
00:55:31as possible.
00:55:33At Sulphur Creek,
00:55:34Mitch and Brennan
00:55:35have finally drained the cut
00:55:37and exposed
00:55:38what could be
00:55:39their first
00:55:40hidden pay pocket.
00:55:42How far did the dredge
00:55:43get over here
00:55:44and figure out
00:55:45what's left for us?
00:55:46Now,
00:55:47they're ready
00:55:48for Parker to pan.
00:55:50Hopefully we got
00:55:51something for him
00:55:51to look at.
00:55:53Old Parker likes
00:55:53to see the gold
00:55:54and, you know,
00:55:55he wants it now.
00:55:58Like this,
00:55:59to me,
00:55:59looks virgin.
00:56:05I really don't know
00:56:06what to expect.
00:56:09I'm just going to show
00:56:20Mitch.
00:56:25One pan out of the
00:56:26downstream edge of your ditch.
00:56:28Holy smoke!
00:56:31That's why we're doing this.
00:56:33Wow!
00:56:35And that's pretty exciting.
00:56:38Find it again.
00:56:40Yeah,
00:56:40hopefully there's more of that.
00:56:43That was a really good pan.
00:56:45Now we just need to get a
00:56:45wash plant in here
00:56:46and find out
00:56:47what mine's like
00:56:48it pans.
00:56:4825 miles southeast
00:56:51at Dominion Creek.
00:56:54We got the ice
00:56:55out of the bridge cut.
00:56:56We got pay stacked up.
00:56:58Now it's time
00:56:59we get sluicing.
00:57:00Tyson
00:57:00is on the clock.
00:57:02Parker wants
00:57:03wash plant Bob
00:57:04sluicing
00:57:04by the end of the day.
00:57:07I haven't talked
00:57:07to Alec and Liam yet.
00:57:08There will be
00:57:09no waiting.
00:57:11Parker has made that
00:57:12abundantly clear.
00:57:13How's it going, guys?
00:57:19We're ready to run dirt.
00:57:23The hopper's
00:57:24going to be
00:57:25the main holdup
00:57:26for Bob starting.
00:57:27The pre-wash
00:57:28hopper feeder?
00:57:29Yeah.
00:57:30This feed chain system
00:57:31is f***ed.
00:57:32This plant
00:57:33can't run without it.
00:57:34F***ed man.
00:57:36It would have been
00:57:36nice if you told me that.
00:57:38The feed chain system
00:57:39which drives
00:57:40the wash plant's
00:57:41pre-wash conveyor
00:57:42is broken
00:57:43and the mechanics
00:57:44want to install
00:57:45a new one.
00:57:46Parker,
00:57:47he wants Bob
00:57:48running today.
00:57:51There's no getting
00:57:52around to this
00:57:52right now.
00:57:53Yeah.
00:57:55F*** me.
00:57:56Let's get at it.
00:57:57We've got a lot
00:57:58of work to do.
00:58:11Mr. Justin!
00:58:12Hey, boys.
00:58:13Mr. Bill.
00:58:13Gentlemen.
00:58:15What's going on?
00:58:16We brought
00:58:17a rush, rush project.
00:58:20At Dominion Creek,
00:58:22Parker's mechanics
00:58:23are hustling
00:58:23to fix the feed chain
00:58:25system on Bob's
00:58:26pre-wash conveyor.
00:58:28All right.
00:58:28Well, let's get
00:58:29this thing unloaded
00:58:30and get at it
00:58:31because it ain't
00:58:31going to fix itself.
00:58:33The pre-wash conveyor
00:58:35moves Pater
00:58:36into the shaker
00:58:37to be washed.
00:58:38The motor
00:58:39which turns the conveyor's
00:58:41front drive shaft
00:58:42is connected
00:58:43via a small chain
00:58:44and sprocket.
00:58:45But over time,
00:58:47the chain tighten,
00:58:48pulling the shaft
00:58:49inwards,
00:58:50breaking apart
00:58:51the sprocket
00:58:52and bearings.
00:58:53To fix this design fault,
00:58:56the mechanics
00:58:56will remove
00:58:57the small chain
00:58:58and sprocket,
00:59:00fit a new
00:59:01front drive shaft,
00:59:02and align the motor
00:59:04so it sends power
00:59:05directly to the shaft.
00:59:10Chain is up.
00:59:14There we go.
00:59:15Let the motor
00:59:16come out of there
00:59:16nice and easy.
00:59:19Okay.
00:59:20We're laughing.
00:59:23This is the final fit.
00:59:30There we go.
00:59:31Perfect.
00:59:32All right.
00:59:36So that,
00:59:38that is it.
00:59:40Copy, Alec.
00:59:41Go for Alec.
00:59:43You are ready
00:59:44to roll, my friend.
00:59:46Sweet.
00:59:46We'll come grab it.
00:59:52Wide load coming to you.
01:00:00Well, look at this.
01:00:01You guys pulled it off.
01:00:03What do you say
01:00:03we get Bob running?
01:00:13Keep it coming.
01:00:16Lift it up a little bit.
01:00:19Whoa, there, buddy.
01:00:21There it goes.
01:00:22You're in.
01:00:23Beautiful.
01:00:28Beautiful.
01:00:28Sweet.
01:00:30Everything's in place.
01:00:32Okay, you guys ready?
01:00:33Yep.
01:00:34Yep.
01:00:34Well, here we go.
01:00:35Let's fireball bump.
01:00:40Take your decks on.
01:00:42Here goes the pre-wash offer.
01:00:44Here goes the first scoop of the season.
01:00:57Here goes the first scoop of the season.
01:00:57The pre-wash conveyor delivers pay dirt to the plant.
01:01:07Water jets blast the gold and fine dirt off the rocks.
01:01:10A shaker deck vibrates a set of screens to separate out the larger rocks, while the smaller gold-bearing
01:01:20material washes down into two 14-by-10-foot sluices, where the riffles and mats catch the gold.
01:01:28Beautiful sight right there, Liam.
01:01:32First wash plank going on Dominion.
01:01:34That is a beautiful sight.
01:01:36With three days sluice time before the end of the week, Tyson's on the gold.
01:01:42Parker's big push for 10,000 ounces is on.
01:01:46Bob's got a lot of ground to get through this here.
01:01:58Miners across the Yukon are gathering at Dawson City for the Klondike Placer Mining Association meeting.
01:02:06The KPMA warn a glut of unprocessed water licenses is putting livelihoods at risk.
01:02:12What a joke.
01:02:14Desperate to start his season, Rick is in Dawson to meet the Klondike Placer Mining Association,
01:02:21a local union working with miners with no water licenses.
01:02:26My back's against the wall.
01:02:26Well, I've been up to my elbows in this, you know, in this whole water license stuff.
01:02:31It sucks, man.
01:02:31It really sucks.
01:02:32The state of the industry is not too great.
01:02:34A lot of people in the exact same boat as me with the water license and all that.
01:02:38I'm hoping that the KPMA, maybe they know when these are going to get approved.
01:02:41Give me some kind of reason to stick with Duncan Creek.
01:02:43You know, without it, I don't know what the hell we're going to do.
01:02:45Hey!
01:02:47That's somebody I know.
01:02:48What's going on, buddy?
01:02:49How you doing?
01:02:50I'm okay.
01:02:51How you been?
01:02:51I'm all right.
01:02:52Better than you.
01:02:53Yeah?
01:02:54I've heard what's going on.
01:02:55Oh, man.
01:02:56There's a lot of people that are pretty screwed up by it.
01:02:59And the thing is, the forces that are against the mining have so many tactics to stall things,
01:03:05and it's death by delay.
01:03:06Yeah.
01:03:07This is absolutely right.
01:03:08Right?
01:03:08Just shoot me in the head.
01:03:09Don't give me a slow dab.
01:03:11Yeah.
01:03:12But let's see what they do in the meeting, and then why don't I buy you a beer afterwards?
01:03:15I appreciate that, man.
01:03:16All right.
01:03:16Just go in this meeting, and see what they say, and go from there.
01:03:29Something's got to give.
01:03:30Yeah, I've had enough of that.
01:03:46Big waste of time.
01:03:48It gets us nowhere.
01:03:49It's just a bull, you know?
01:03:50Like, well, whose ass do I put my fist up to get some results here?
01:03:53And maybe I'll be done.
01:03:54Who knows?
01:03:55Who the knows at this point?
01:03:56Probably gonna go have a beer.
01:03:57Maybe 10.
01:03:59In Dawson, with no breakthrough on his water license, Rick's hopes of mining this season...
01:04:05Best seat in the house!
01:04:06...panged by a thread.
01:04:08Whoa, whoa, whoa.
01:04:09What's up?
01:04:10Good to see you, buddy.
01:04:10Good to see you.
01:04:13You know, the last time we were together was, um...
01:04:1714 years ago.
01:04:18Really?
01:04:18You think that was the last time I was still young?
01:04:21That's a long time ago.
01:04:22I...
01:04:22I remember, I was like, I think Tony Beats is like the coolest guy.
01:04:27...in the world.
01:04:28And I want to be like, Tony.
01:04:33That'll be a long time, but you know what?
01:04:34Be in good years, right?
01:04:35Yeah.
01:04:36Every year I have more fun.
01:04:37Good for you.
01:04:38It takes a lot to get me jealous.
01:04:40But when I roll by, you have so much equipment running.
01:04:44Yeah.
01:04:46So, how's Rick?
01:04:47You having fun?
01:04:49No.
01:04:50The KPMB has gotten us nowhere.
01:04:52Basically, we can't touch Duncan Creek.
01:04:54Ooh, that's not very good.
01:04:55No, it's kind of a slap in the face.
01:04:57Do you have that other block of ground?
01:05:00Lightning Creek?
01:05:01Yeah.
01:05:01Um, well, I don't have it.
01:05:03It's Troy's.
01:05:05So, it's a lease.
01:05:05But he's like a pretty reasonable landlord.
01:05:07He is.
01:05:08And, you know...
01:05:09They're not like me.
01:05:10Yeah.
01:05:10I wasn't going to say that, but yeah.
01:05:14And you've done, like, one test or a bunch of tests?
01:05:17We did a few tests there.
01:05:18Not very happy about it.
01:05:20But there's a license there for three years.
01:05:22That's pretty good.
01:05:24But I'm not sure if there's a lot of gold in it.
01:05:28But, I mean, you have one thing going for you,
01:05:30and that is, like, gold price is so good.
01:05:32Yeah.
01:05:33No, I hear you.
01:05:33But this is definitely a gamble.
01:05:35Oh, ****.
01:05:37Gold price is excellent.
01:05:38If you're lucky enough to have a license,
01:05:40hurry the **** up, mind the **** out of it,
01:05:43and leave.
01:05:44That's it.
01:05:44You just got to get out there
01:05:45and wash as many rocks as you can.
01:05:48Get the **** over that and make it work, Rick.
01:05:52You're right.
01:05:55Make some money.
01:05:56Oh, yeah.
01:05:57Hope it goes well.
01:06:00Well, I've got to run.
01:06:01I've got a dog that needs to walk.
01:06:03Park it up with fun.
01:06:05Rick.
01:06:05It's great to see you guys.
01:06:06Me too.
01:06:06For sure.
01:06:07There you go.
01:06:07Hey, let's not wait another 14 years, huh?
01:06:09Yeah.
01:06:09Yeah, do it.
01:06:10I've known Rick for 15 years.
01:06:14He was there for all the years where I was just, like, scared to death of going broke.
01:06:17I was scared to death of people taking advantage of me.
01:06:20I was scared to death of Tony kicking me off the ground.
01:06:23This business **** eats you alive if you're not ready for it.
01:06:26With Rick, I could definitely see him losing everything and leaving the gold fields broke, but I could also see him building an empire, and I really hope that he's successful.
01:06:42I do.
01:06:42I cut my teeth out here with Parker, and I've known Tony since the day I walked into the Klondike, and they've always had good advice, and I'd be foolish not to take it.
01:06:52I've got Lightning Creek as an option right now, and we're going to take that option, and we're going to run with it.
01:06:55I'd like to remind all rock truck drivers and the hoe operator working in the cut.
01:07:10Keep going.
01:07:10Keep skimming her off.
01:07:11Strip, strip, strip, strip, strip, strip.
01:07:13After a disastrous start managing Tony's Paradise Hill claim, Mike Beetz is racing to get down to pay.
01:07:22Mike's doing the best with what he's got, but we need to move this dirt, get to the gold, get to the pay.
01:07:28Our guys are doing real good.
01:07:30They're moving a lot of dirt.
01:07:32Some of this ****, like, right here, this has gone very far from the pay.
01:07:35There's so many rocks, that's usually a good indicator that's good stuff.
01:07:38If you want to drive in, I can grab my Kubota, because it makes its way in.
01:07:44Yeah, ****, let's walk.
01:07:46Looks like you need it.
01:07:51Mike, do you copy, Mike?
01:07:52Yeah, go ahead.
01:07:54We're down to pay here.
01:07:56Do you want to come check it out?
01:07:58I'll be there in a minute.
01:08:01A little bit clay in it, but it's got the rocks.
01:08:05That'll be a fair chunk, huh?
01:08:08Let's grab a pan.
01:08:14Now, what if I forgot how to pan?
01:08:16It'll be ****.
01:08:18Give me a rock.
01:08:21Where would you like it?
01:08:23Right there.
01:08:24Thank you, sir.
01:08:25Look at that.
01:08:43You're a good pan.
01:08:48Nice, fine stuff.
01:08:50Yeah.
01:08:50It's fine as frog hair, as they say, but that's on the top anyway, right?
01:08:55Well, we can sluice that, Mike.
01:08:56Oh, yeah.
01:08:57We're out in **** question.
01:08:58We hit pay in Paradise Hill.
01:09:03The Indian sluice lot is doing a good job.
01:09:06So everything is looking up.
01:09:07Everything is looking pretty good.
01:09:10Be all in business.
01:09:11Perfect.
01:09:18We're back.
01:09:19Hold on.
01:09:20Before Tyson cleared all the ice, Parker turned the bridge cut into a racetrack.
01:09:28Oh, ****.
01:09:29Just push on the front a little bit.
01:09:43Come on.
01:09:43Get in there.
01:09:48Cody, get in there.
01:09:50Cody, get in there.
01:09:51Every light on the dash is on.
01:10:04You know any good mechanics?
01:10:05Dude, they're going to kill me if they find out why this happened.
01:10:08Don't tell anybody.
01:10:17We're down to foreman.
01:10:18But I think being as set up as we are now, it is **** doable.
01:10:22And, well, we are going to **** try.
01:10:25Tony's eldest son, Kevin, has been running his Scribner Creek mine for a week,
01:10:30relying more on operator Caden Foote.
01:10:33This is the earliest I've started sluicing in a season.
01:10:36But I feel like it's going to be a bit of a struggle without Brennan.
01:10:40He was an all-around great foreman.
01:10:44We really got to, as a team, come together
01:10:47so we can get as much out as we can.
01:10:55Hey, I've got some yellow ****.
01:10:57Oh, cool.
01:10:59Hi, guys.
01:11:00Hey, Marty.
01:11:00Hey, guys.
01:11:01How's it going, pal?
01:11:02How are you?
01:11:02Not to be there.
01:11:03Good.
01:11:04Kevin leases the ground from Tony
01:11:06and pays a 10% royalty on any gold he finds.
01:11:10So, your second year on your own.
01:11:14How are you feeling about that?
01:11:15You going to cross it?
01:11:17Honestly, I'm feeling pretty **** good.
01:11:20Ready to roll this year.
01:11:21You don't have to buy this, buy every **** thing, right?
01:11:24Yeah.
01:11:24Yeah.
01:11:25So that's got to make a lot easier start this year.
01:11:27It definitely is a lot nicer to hit the ground running.
01:11:30What's happening with Brennan?
01:11:31Well, we didn't know he was showing up,
01:11:34and then he finally came and talked to us,
01:11:37told us that he wasn't coming back.
01:11:39It would have been nice if we would have let you know that in the winter.
01:11:42It would have been nice, for sure.
01:11:43That's people for you, I guess.
01:11:44That's people for you.
01:11:45Oh, yeah.
01:11:46So, who gives a ****?
01:11:47Next.
01:11:48That's how it goes next.
01:11:52Tay, you had a nice early start.
01:11:54And have some gold coming out of the ground right away?
01:11:56Yeah.
01:11:57What's your gold?
01:11:59My gold's $2,000.
01:12:00And we already have a little bit of chunk of gold
01:12:02at the start of the season, so that's nice.
01:12:05Do you maybe think we can weigh it up?
01:12:07All right.
01:12:08Are we ready?
01:12:09Kevin ran his stockpiled pay for one week at Scribner Creek.
01:12:1315.
01:12:1520.
01:12:1730.
01:12:1940.
01:12:2150.
01:12:2657.04.
01:12:28$200,000 in gold.
01:12:32$60,000 more than the same amount was worth last season.
01:12:37And that's how many hours?
01:12:3870.
01:12:3970 hours.
01:12:39So it's a little bit less than...
01:12:41So I have an ounce now.
01:12:42Yeah.
01:12:43That's still nice.
01:12:44Oh, ****.
01:12:44Yeah, that's better than zero.
01:12:45For who?
01:12:46This year cash in, so you might as well get with it, right?
01:12:49Yeah.
01:12:49You know?
01:12:51Okay, woman, let's get the **** out of here.
01:12:53Let's go.
01:12:53We have to work, so we'll talk to you guys later.
01:12:56Ladies and gentlemen, don't work too hard.
01:12:58Bye.
01:12:58Bye.
01:12:59Catch you later.
01:13:00Hey, dog.
01:13:01That was a decent quote, eh?
01:13:04Yeah, not too bad.
01:13:05It's kind of nice to see this yellow stuff this early in the season.
01:13:09I'm sure the folks would be happy for us, too.
01:13:10But the big thing we are looking for right now is the foreman.
01:13:14We'll get hiring and something will **** show up.
01:13:20Nice little haul.
01:13:21I mean, it's a good **** start.
01:13:22It's a couple bucks, huh?
01:13:24Royalty-wise?
01:13:25Royalty-wise, yeah.
01:13:26It's all right.
01:13:27There's nothing like making money of your kids, is there?
01:13:35What's happening?
01:13:36How's it going, man?
01:13:37Going good.
01:13:38Good.
01:13:39It's been a while since we've done one of these.
01:13:41Yeah.
01:13:43Hey, cat!
01:13:44Hey!
01:13:45He is back!
01:13:47How's it going?
01:13:48Welcome back.
01:13:49Yeah, thank you.
01:13:50It's good having you back.
01:13:51And there's a lot to do this year, so we need all the help we can get.
01:13:53Definitely.
01:13:54It's the end of the first week of what could be a game-changing season for Parker.
01:14:00This is the year, huh?
01:14:02Yeah.
01:14:02We need to just **** shove dirt down those wash plants' throats, huh?
01:14:08It's a long road to 10,000.
01:14:13Tyson's got Bob running right now in the bridge cut.
01:14:17Sulfur's drying out a little bit.
01:14:19We've got the trucks upstream there stripping.
01:14:21And that's going all right?
01:14:22Yep.
01:14:22Are you ready, T?
01:14:25Let's check it out, Dumit.
01:14:27This is Mr. Bob.
01:14:28This is your first plant.
01:14:29Well, here we go.
01:14:30All eyes are on Tyson's first run from the bridge cut.
01:14:34Last season's payouts were unpredictable.
01:14:37Parker's looking for at least 100 ounces from three days sluicing.
01:14:4110, 20, 40, 60, 80.
01:14:51Going to break to 100.
01:14:53There we go, 100, 120.
01:15:01125.8.
01:15:03Nice.
01:15:04Very nice.
01:15:05Very nice.
01:15:06Worth over $440,000.
01:15:11Looks like it was worth getting that ice off.
01:15:13Yeah.
01:15:14We're on the board.
01:15:15Yeah.
01:15:17That's definitely a good start, but we have a long ways to go.
01:15:20So I hope everybody's ready to buckle in.
01:15:25All right.
01:15:25Thank you, guys.
01:15:27Do it again next week.
01:15:29Big cat is back.
01:15:31Meow.
