00:00Florida Gulf Coast University men's basketball player Brandon Dwyer this week didn't just
00:04finally score that one point, he scored six. So joining us now to tell us about this wild
00:09journey is Brandon Dwyer. Brandon, thank you so much for joining us. Congratulations on scoring
00:14that point. Tell us what it was like that moment when you finally scored that elusive first point
00:19after all these years. Absolutely. Well, first, thank you guys for having me today. I really
00:24appreciate it. But I mean, it was a pretty surreal feeling. It's five years, five years is a long
00:29time. I mean, the last time I scored in a real game was 2021. And it's almost 2026. So it was a
00:37long awaited journey. But backpedaling down the court, I honestly blacked out. I didn't know what
00:42celebration I did until I watched the footage pack after the game. I was like, Oh, yeah, I guess I
00:47put my arms up. I didn't know what happened. I picked this pumped I said something don't know what I
00:53said. Like I have no have no idea. But it was a it was a really surreal feeling and seeing the
00:59crowd and my teammates and my coaches and everyone there be so happy for a road to one point finally
01:05being over just meant so much to me. And you can see it in your face sort of the jubilation of
01:10waiting for this moment for so long. You mentioned, you know, your series the road to one point.
01:16What made you want to document this and actually show people this? And how did you sort of keep
01:21going on this knowing that this was a long journey to finally get to this moment?
01:25Yeah, absolutely. So when I transferred to Florida Gulf Coast University in 2022 for my
01:32sophomore year, I'm from Delaware. So it's completely different in Fort Myers, Florida than
01:36it is Delaware. And I would call my family and call my friends and tell them it's 95 degrees
01:41is palm trees. There's now I went to the beach, I saw a dolphin, you don't you don't see that
01:47in Delaware. So I decided, well, let me try and document this while I'm down here to show
01:52them what's going on. And I started making tech talks doing day in the life series of
01:56what it's like being a dealing basketball player in Florida Gulf Coast. And it just progressively
02:00kind of took off from there started making relatable videos. And this guy, he stitched one
02:06of my videos, showing my ESPN profile with my stats, and it was zero points, zero rebounds,
02:12zero assists, zero everything. And I was getting clowned like relentlessly on the internet. And
02:18I thought, well, there's two ways I can look at this, I can either try and fight it, or I can
02:23embrace it and start something from this. And I decided to do the latter and embrace it.
02:27How did you know that you were getting a following on this? Like, was there a moment that you felt
02:32like this was hitting with an audience? And this is how you were able to get your following?
02:38Um, I think after that guy stitched my video, and the first video I posted was me walking into the
02:46gym, I was like flipping the ball in my hands, saying like me showing up to my game ready to
02:50score zero points. And I saw all the comments flipped. And they were all dude can take a joke
02:56bros cool, like bros a cool bench warmer. And then I start going to games. And people would make bench
03:02mix tapes out of me cheering. And then I'd get a lot of DMs saying like, you're an inspiration like,
03:08to like us guys who don't play. And from there, I was like, Okay, this is this is kind of cool.
03:13I'm really going to lead into this. And it just kind of kept taking off.
