01:00What's on?
01:30Oh, well, hi, everybody.
01:56I'm K.J.
01:57I bet you're wondering why everybody's wandering around.
02:00I know. We're having a party.
02:02A party? I love parties.
02:05What are we celebrating?
02:06We're celebrating Hanukkah.
02:07And we're going to decorate.
02:08Exchange presents.
02:09Eat great food.
02:11Wow. Sounds like my favorite kind of party.
02:14Me, too.
02:15So, um, Hanukkah's the best. This is great. I love this. This is wonderful.
02:20Um, David.
02:22Yes, K.J.?
02:23What exactly is Hanukkah?
02:25It's okay to ask, K.J.
02:26Especially since it's so much fun to explain.
02:28Hanukkah is a holiday the Jewish people celebrate once a year.
02:31It's eight days long.
02:33Wow, an eight-day party?
02:35Oh, what's it all about?
02:37It's about a miracle that happened a long time ago.
02:40A miracle? Oh, I know.
02:42Well, you mean like when my mom doesn't make me clean up my room?
02:46Not exactly.
02:47Well, have I ever seen a miracle?
02:51Sure you have. They're around us every day.
02:53Oh, sounds like a song.
02:55Have you ever noticed the flowers and the trees?
03:10That in the springtime we are blessed with the miracle of new leaves?
03:16Miracles aren't just magic.
03:18Miracles aren't just magic.
03:19They need people to help them along.
03:22Miracles aren't just magic.
03:24They're in everything we see.
03:27In everything we do.
03:30In everything we are all lifelong.
03:35Have you ever stopped to think that your heart is always beating?
03:45Makes no difference if you're standing up or if you are sitting.
03:50It just pounds and pounds and pounds every morning, noon and night.
03:56Now isn't that a miracle?
03:59Each beat brings us new life.
04:06Miracles aren't just magic.
04:09They need people to help them along.
04:12Miracles aren't just magic.
04:15They're in everything we see.
04:18In everything we do.
04:21In everything we are all lifelong.
04:25In everything we see.
04:29In everything we do.
04:32In everything we are all lifelong.
04:38Well, I guess I have experienced a miracle or two.
04:48We all have.
04:49Well, so why don't we celebrate Hanukkah every day?
04:52Because Hanukkah is about a very special miracle that happened long ago.
04:56It was in the ancient land of the Jews.
04:58Even before Israel.
04:59The land was called Judea and it had a new king.
05:02Antiochus Epiphanes.
05:04Antiochus.
05:05But he wasn't a very good king.
05:09Because he wouldn't let the Jews do anything they wanted.
05:11He was the lowest.
05:12The meanest.
05:13The no goodest.
05:14It's kind of hard to explain.
05:15No, it's not.
05:16He was ruthless and impossible and a tyrant at best.
05:26He was angry, he was nasty, a persistent little pest.
05:29He made life for the Jewish people very hard to take.
05:33He told the Jews that he was God but we knew he was fake.
05:36Cause he said no, no, no, no, you cannot do this.
05:40No, no, no, no, you cannot do that.
05:43You may not read the Torah and you may not dance to Hora.
05:47And you may not pray any three times a day.
05:51Cause he said no, no, no, no, you cannot do this.
05:54No, no, no, no, you cannot do that.
05:58His name is Antiochus and he isn't trying to joke.
06:02It's Antiochus Epiphanes.
06:08Once again our history tells us that we had to fight.
06:11So that we could save the Jews and live for what was right.
06:15And every year about this time we celebrate our Chag.
06:19Rededicating temples and our spirit to God.
06:22He said no, no, no, no, you cannot do this.
06:26No, no, no, no, you cannot do that.
06:29You may not read the Torah and you may not dance to Hora.
06:33And you may not pray any three times a day.
06:36Cause he said no, no, no, no, you cannot do this.
06:40No, no, no, no, you cannot do that.
06:44His name is Antiochus and he isn't trying to joke.
06:47It's Antiochus Epiphanes.
06:51Antiochus Epiphanes.
06:55Antiochus Epiphanes.
07:04Okay, I think I get the point.
07:11Antiochus was really mean and he destroyed all the temples.
07:16And he didn't let the people sing or pray or eat ice cream.
07:20Did I say anything about ice cream?
07:23Um, not exactly.
07:25Then there was a miracle.
07:26That's right.
07:27Well, so what was it?
07:28Well, since Antiochus was such a mean man.
07:31And the Jews were tired of hiding in the caves instead of being free.
07:34Along came Judah Maccabee.
07:36And even though the king had a bigger army, Judah Maccabee was stronger and he won the battle.
07:41And the Jews were free of Antiochus.
07:43And that was the miracle.
07:45That's not all.
07:46When the Jews returned to the temple to pray, there was only a little oil in the holy lamp.
07:50Well, then why didn't they just get some water?
07:53They did.
07:54But they had to travel four days to get the oil.
07:56Then four more days to bring it back.
07:58That's eight days.
08:00Well, did the lamp burn out?
08:04No.
08:05That was the miracle.
08:11We walked into the sanctuary much to our surprise.
08:15The place was just a pig pen.
08:17We could not believe our eyes.
08:19We had to clean it up so we could sing and we could pray.
08:22We found a little oil that would last for just a day.
08:26We just need one more day of oil.
08:29We need a miracle.
08:31Yes, we do.
08:33There's no candles, no lights.
08:35And our temples aside.
08:37We need a miracle.
08:38Yes, we do.
08:40We just need one more day of oil.
08:44We need a miracle.
08:45Yes, we do.
08:47Get that oil to burn.
08:49We've a lesson to learn.
08:51We need a miracle.
08:52Yes, we do.
08:54We were very worried so we burnt the midnight oil.
09:01Trying to think of ways to rid the Jews of this turmoil.
09:04The famous Judah Maccabee led our people strong.
09:08And that's why we can stand here as we sing these crazy songs.
09:11We just need one more day of oil.
09:15We need a miracle.
09:16Yes, we do.
09:18There's no candles.
09:19There's no candles, no lights.
09:20And our temples aside.
09:22We need a miracle.
09:24Yes, we do.
09:25We need one more day of oil.
09:29We need a miracle.
09:31Yes, we do.
09:33Get that oil to burn.
09:35We've a lesson to learn.
09:37We need a miracle, yes we do, we need a miracle, yes we do, we need a miracle, yes we do.
09:58Whoa! You mean this tiny little bit of oil? It burned for eight whole days?
10:06That's why we're so happy on Hanukkah.
10:08Because we won our freedom from a wicked king.
10:10And the lamp burned for eight whole days, until we could get more oil.
10:14And that's why we light the menorah for eight nights.
10:16And why we laugh and sing.
10:18And play dreidel all night long.
10:19And get presents!
10:20Presents! I love presents too!
10:22And what was that other thing you said? Dreidel. Is that another miracle?
10:27No, but it reminds us of one.
10:29See, when life was hard under Antiochus, the Jews had to be clever.
10:32Just a little bit smarter than the king and his soldiers.
10:35So, they played dreidel while they studied Torah, the Jewish Bible.
10:39And whenever the soldiers came by, they thought it was just a game and never knew what was really going on.
10:44Cool! Well that's a really smart idea.
10:47Hey, can you guys teach me how to play the dreidel?
10:51Sure, it's easy. Each side of the dreidel has a different Hebrew letter on it.
10:56Nun, gimel, hay, and shin.
10:59You spin the dreidel around, and when you land on...
11:02Nun, I get nothing.
11:06Gimel, I win!
11:07Hooray!
11:08But the letters really stand for the Hebrew words,
11:11nes, gadol, hayah, sham.
11:13That means a miracle happened there.
11:15Right.
11:16Boy, there sure is a lot to learn about Hanukkah.
11:23I had a little dreidel, I made it out of clay.
11:31And when it's dry and ready, oh dreidel, I shall play.
11:35Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of clay.
11:40And when it's dry and ready, oh dreidel, I shall play.
11:45I had a little dreidel, I made it out of straw.
11:49It went 80 miles an hour, and broke the speeding law.
11:54Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of straw.
11:58It went 80 miles an hour, and broke the speeding law.
12:03I had a little dreidel, I made it out of mud.
12:07And when I tried to spin it, it fell down with a thud.
12:12Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of mud.
12:16And when I tried to spin it, it fell down with a thud.
12:21I had a little dreidel, I made it out of bread.
12:26I did not spin that dreidel, I ate it up instead.
12:30Yum yum!
12:31Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of bread.
12:35I did not spin that dreidel, I ate it up instead.
12:39Yum yum!
12:40I had a little dreidel, I made it out of schmaltz.
12:44And when I tried to spin it, it did a little waltz.
12:49Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of schmaltz.
12:54And when I tried to spin it, it did a little waltz.
12:59I had a little dreidel, I made it in my mind.
13:03An imaginary dreidel is the hardest one to find.
13:08Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it in my mind.
13:12An imaginary dreidel is the hardest one to find.
13:17We have a little dreidel, it's sitting on a shelf.
13:21So if you want more verses, you can make them up yourself.
13:42A little girl named Galia walked home from school one day,
13:46with a book bag full of presents and a dreidel made of clay.
13:49The dreidel was her favorite.
13:51She'd had it since her birth.
13:53She wouldn't even part with it for all the toys on earth.
13:57She'd made presents for her parents for Hanukkah this year.
14:00She skipped along and hummed a song that no one else could hear.
14:04Suddenly, she stopped.
14:06Something blocked her path.
14:08It was a huge and scary goblin who hadn't had a bath.
14:13He gnashed his teeth quite gleefully.
14:16His tail began to wag.
14:18He licked his lips and rolled his eyes and growled,
14:21What's in the bag?
14:25But Galia was undeterred.
14:27She looked him in the eye.
14:29Their presents for my mom and dad for Hanukkah.
14:33She said, why?
14:36The goblin laughed an evil laugh.
14:38Oh, I see.
14:44Well, little girl, you can run along if you give that bag to me.
14:50But Galia, our heroine, was brave and clever, too.
14:54And after a moment's careful thought, she knew just what to do.
14:59She dug out her trusty dreidel.
15:01Galia knew her luck would hold.
15:03She'd had a spinning winning streak since she was three years old.
15:08I challenge you to spin for it, she said with a scornful smile.
15:14Any goblin worth his salt could beat me by a mile.
15:18Now, you know as well as I, a goblin has his pride.
15:22He had to play.
15:23Galia's dare was a thorn in that goblin's side.
15:27Me get beat by a little kid?
15:30He laughed.
15:31That's pretty funny.
15:34So he agreed and she counted out the change from her lunch money.
15:39Now, Galia had good manners, so she let him have first spin.
15:43Hey!
15:45He cried and took a coin.
15:48He was sure that he would win.
15:50Next, it was Galia's turn to spin.
15:53She closed her eyes and prayed.
15:56Shin!
16:01Shin!
16:02He thought he had it made.
16:12The goblin rudely grabbed the dreidel and gave it a mighty twirl.
16:16Run!
16:19Cried Galia happily.
16:21He growled.
16:22You're a lucky little girl.
16:26The final spin.
16:29She held her breath and spun with all her might.
16:34Woohoo!
16:37She laughed and the goblin roared.
16:41A terrifying sight.
16:47Then, to Galia's great surprise, the goblin heaved a heavy sigh.
16:52And with a quivering sob that shook his fur, he began to cry.
16:57Why are you crying, goblin dear?
17:13She asked.
17:14And he replied,
17:15I've never gotten a Hanukkah gift, no matter how hard I've tried.
17:25Poor old goblin, Galia said.
17:29She had a kind heart, you see.
17:32So she took a deep breath and held out her dreidel and said,
17:36Take this gift from me.
17:39The goblin couldn't believe his ears.
17:44She had been the winner.
17:45But Galia just smiled and took his hand and brought him home for dinner.
17:50Oh Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, come light the menorah.
18:04Let's have a party, we'll all dance a hora.
18:07Gather round the table, we'll give you a treat.
18:10Seven bones to play with and latkes to eat.
18:13And while we are playing, the candles are burning low.
18:20One for each night, they shed a sweet light to remind us of days long ago.
18:26Hanukkah, Hanukkah, Hanukkah,
18:28Hanukkah, Hanukkah, Han'yaveh Chukah.
18:31Or Khabib, Misa Biki, La Yellen Rach.

18:47Sof Sof Sof Sof, Sof Sof Sof, Manayim Atop.
18:52Who can tell the things that we tell us?
18:54Who can count them?
18:56In every age, a hero, a sage came to our aid.
19:00Who can we tell the things that we tell us?
19:03Who can count them?
19:05In every age, a hero, a sage came to our aid.
19:09Hark!
19:11At this time of year, in days of yore,
19:15Maccabees the temple did restore,
19:19And today our people, as we dreamed,
19:24Will arise, unite, and be redeemed.
19:28Ephesians was relieved from recent articles
19:33Of the angels often Hm, oh no.
19:35In every year, Sam, oh no.
19:36In every year, Sam ,
19:37In there, Sam, oh no.
19:38Why have you seen the rot?
19:39In there, It's salty.
19:40Well digmen, oh no.
19:41To be able to force them.
19:42I said to you,
19:43What is that?
19:44In every year .
19:45What is that?
19:46In everything that you hold them both am in any JUL?
19:47Nothing is afraid and a hopeful generation.
19:49Where are you?
19:50I will never forget they're always here.
19:51How are you still going through?
19:52As we Can speak?
19:53Why are you ainda friends,
19:54What is they casting from the Bible?
19:56So, what's your favorite part of Hanukkah?
20:13I love dancing and singing.
20:15I love eating latkes.
20:16Latkes?
20:17Latkes are potato pancakes.
20:19My mom makes them with applesauce and sour cream.
20:23Oh, they're so salty and crispy and delicious.
20:26Sounds great. Let's eat.
20:27Wait. We forgot the best part of Hanukkah.
20:30What could be better than latkes?
20:32Lighting the menorah.
20:34The menorah. Right.
20:36Well, I remember. It has eight candles.
20:39And we add one for each day of Hanukkah.
20:40That's eight days. Just like the oil.
20:44Well, then how come there are nine candles?
20:46The ninth candle is the shamash.
20:48The shamash is the boss.
20:50You light it first, then use it to light all the other candles.
20:53Whoa. It's beautiful.
20:56Gee, menorahs, dreidels, there's so many fun things to learn about Hanukkah.
21:12Light the menorah, it's Hanukkah, it's Hanukkah.
21:16Light the menorah, when Hanukkah is here.
21:19It's Hanukkah.
21:29Watch the dreidels spin, spin, spin.
21:33Nut G homeless, heih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iih Iip water.
21:38The fun begin, good, give all, patience, spin the dreidel, try to win, and sing along our dreidel song with me.
21:52Like the menorah, it's Hanukkah, it's Hanukkah, like the menorah, when Hanukkah is here.
22:00Like the menorah, say the blessings every night, like the menorah, when Hanukkah is here.
22:07See the dreidel spinning round, spinning round and round and round, when it stops it will tell you, this is what you have to do.
22:19The fun begin, good, give all, patience, spin the dreidel, try to win, and sing along our dreidel, try to win, and sing along our dreidel.
22:31And sweet songs, that please sing along with me.
22:37Like the menorah, it's Hanukkah, like the menorah, when Hanukkah is here.
22:45Like the menorah, it's Hanukkah, it's Hanukkah, it's Hanukkah, it's Hanukkah, like the menorah, when Hanukkah is here.
22:52Now can we light the candles?
22:59Since this is Keiji's first Hanukkah, we should let him do it.
23:01Yeah!
23:02Let's all do it together.
23:03You light the candles, Keiji, while we all sing the blessing.
23:06Okay.
23:06Baruch atah Adloi, Eloheinu melech ha'olam,
23:20She'ashtag nizim levoteinu,
23:49By your meek ha'olam,
23:55Shana t'an ha'zeh,
24:00Amen.
24:07Now it's time to play dreidel and eat latkes.
24:11And tell stories.
24:12And remember Judah Maccabee.
24:13And laugh out loud.
24:14And sing songs.
24:15And think of miracles.
24:16And open presents.
24:17And have a happy, happy Hanukkah, everybody.
24:21Miracles aren't just magic.
24:30They need people to help them along.
24:33Miracles aren't just magic.
24:36They're in everything we see.
24:39In everything we do.
24:41In everything we are, all life long.
24:46Because he said, no, no, no, no, no, you cannot do this.
24:56No, no, no, no, you cannot do that.
25:00You may not read from Torah, and you may not dance to Torah.
25:03And you may not pray any three times a day.
25:07Because he said, no, no, no, no, no, no, you cannot do this.
25:11No, no, no, no, no, you cannot do that.
25:14His name is Antiochus, and he isn't trying to joke.
25:18He's Antiochus, Epiphanes.
25:21We just need one more day of oil.
25:26We need a miracle.
25:27Yes, we do.
25:29There's no candles, no lights, and our temples aside.
25:33We need a miracle.
25:35Yes, we do.
25:36We just need one more day of oil.
25:40We need a miracle.
25:42Yes, we do.
25:44Get that oil to burn.
25:46We've a lesson to learn.
25:48We need a miracle.
25:49Oh, yes, we do.
25:51Hanukkah, Hanukkah,
25:53An'yafet O'kaf.
25:56Or Khabib, Hissabib, Hila Yelen Rakh.

26:08Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,
26:10I made it out of play.
26:13And when it's dry and ready,
26:15Oh, dreidel, I shall play.
26:17Like the menorah, it's Hanukkah, it's Hanukkah.
26:21Like the menorah, when Hanukkah is here.
26:25Miracles are just magic.
26:27They need people to help them along.
26:30Miracles are just magic.
26:33They're in everything we see,
26:36In everything we do,
26:39In everything we are,
