00:05Timor-Leste's accession and efforts to consolidate the region's economy

00:09are among Malaysia's biggest achievements as the regional bloc's chair this year.

00:15Khao said that Malaysia took over the chairmanship during a period of geopolitical turbulence

00:19when the world was witnessing wars in Ukraine and Gaza

00:22while dealing with the uncertainties triggered by US President Donald Trump's trade tariffs.

00:27He said the accession of Timor-Leste was a gargantuan task

00:32involving numerous rounds of negotiations and meetings

00:35and commended Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's diplomacy work

00:39in negotiating a ceasefire for the Cambodia and Thailand border conflicts

00:44which erupted in July.

00:46Khao also praised Malaysia for convening leaders from key continents

00:50during the 47th ASEAN Summit and related events

00:53strengthening the bloc's credibility and international standing.

00:56He added that Timor-Leste's membership was an important milestone

01:00in the bloc's aspiration to create shared prosperity

01:03considering that it was the last country defined as sovereign

01:07under ASEAN's geographical boundary.
