00:01Transport Minister Lok Siu-fuk has urged motorists to settle their unpaid road transport department
00:06summonses by January 1st to avoid facing stricter action.
00:10He said there are more than 5.5 million unpaid JPJ summonses nationwide and that offenders
00:15who fail to pay by the deadline would be referred to the court or result in blacklisting, preventing
00:20them from renewing their motor vehicle licenses.
00:22He added that the type of blacklist will depend on the offense, saying speeding violations
00:26will block road tax renewal, while driver-related offenses could see the license blacklisted.
00:32From November 1st to December 30th, all compoundable JPJ summonses are eligible for a 50% discount
00:38under an amnesty initiative to encourage payment before the new year.
00:42Lok said the initiative was part of efforts to improve compliance and reduce the number
00:45of outstanding offenses.
00:48Lok added that JPJP 22 notices, which covered general road offenses such as driving without
00:53a license, or with an expired road tax, made up the largest share of unpaid summonses
00:58at 3.68 million.
01:00This was followed by offenses under the Automated Awareness Safety System, which are offenses detected
01:05by automated cameras, such as speeding and running red lights.
