00:00It may not look or feel like winter just yet, but the crews here at Philadelphia International
00:04Airport are wasting no time. In fact, just last week, they were training their operators on snow
00:09removal equipment, making sure their drivers know the ins and outs of the machinery before the first
00:14snowfall. It's closer to anything happening, so it's fresh on your mind because the last time we
00:21got in these vehicles was last year. Operators are getting behind the wheel weeks before the
00:25first snowstorm even hits in Philadelphia, heading out after midnight when airport traffic is
00:29lightest, to practice maneuvering massive plows and blowers that will soon be critical for keeping
00:34runways clear. If you could kind of master seeing it at nighttime, then in the daytime it will be,
00:40you know, much easier and it's less traffic out there. Crews prepare for all conditions,
00:45ensuring every operator is confident and ready when visibility drops and the snow starts flying.
00:50We want to alleviate any chance of any mistakes or any malfunction that's happened because these
00:57pieces actually keep the airport open no matter what the weather condition is and it's best that
01:02our operators know how to operate them at maximum capacity. Staying ahead of the storm means staying
01:08in sync with constant communication between ground crews and weather teams before every system moves
01:13in. We work closely with the weather team and operations. They let us know when it's time to
01:18actually push. We load up and we start pushing. The class training and the actual physical training,
01:23it gets all our crew members prepared to go out and execute the job safely and as professionally as
01:29possible. Drills will continue every few weeks until the season's first snow. All part of that
01:34preparation that helps one of the nation's busiest airports keep running smoothly no matter what winter
01:39throws at it. For Anki Weather, I'm Allie Reed.
