00:00Many of the travelers here at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport have been scrambling to try and rebook their flights so they can get out of town before the freezing rain and ice arrive.
00:12A severe ice storm is set to hit one of the busiest airports in the world, with travel impacts cascading across the country and beyond.
00:20The list of delays and cancellations in and out of Atlanta is quickly growing, and travelers say they're doing everything they can to avoid getting stranded.
00:30They don't have salt. We got a bunch of salt up north. They don't have the equipment and stuff down here.
00:34We moved that flight up to try to get out earlier. I'm feeling awful lucky. I mean, awfully lucky.
00:39Many families staying home in Atlanta are stocking up on groceries and emergency supplies, leaving some store shelves bare.
00:47Locals tell us they're preparing to potentially be stuck at home for several days.
00:52It's going to be rough. It's scary to be in the ice like this. You don't know who's going to run into you,
00:59so it's very scary. If you don't have to go out, don't for no reason.
01:04Like, it's a state of emergency. Like, stay at home.
01:07Airport officials say they have 15 tons of sand and salt ready to go,
01:12along with a fleet of de-icing, brine, and plow trucks.
01:16Crews will be working around the clock to try and keep runways clear,
01:20but they're telling travelers be prepared for major disruptions that could last for days.
01:25In Atlanta, for AccuWeather, I'm Bill Waddell.
