Snow and ice to cause dangerous travel conditions for southern US

A major winter storm will bring snow and ice to the southern U.S. this week, followed by a cold blast. AccuWeather's Jon Porter warns of dangerous travel conditions for the region.

00:00I want to talk more about this snow and ice. I want to bring in our chief meteorologist

00:03Jonathan Porter. And you know, John, we just had map discussion. One of the cities that we've been

00:08talking about, a lot of cities, Dallas, more ice, more sleet than snow that can hold down snow

00:14accumulations. But travel is going to be treacherous there. How much snow are you going to

00:17get in Little Rock? How much snow are you going to get in Nashville? And then there's Atlanta,

00:21which is a pretty tricky call there as well. Right. It looks like lots of sleet and some

00:26snow there as well. It's going to be a big travel mess. Our team of 100 expert meteorologists,

00:31including top snow experts, delving into all those details. And look at that sharp variation,

00:36Bernie, across the Dallas metroplex north of the city. There can be higher totals,

00:41three to six to 12 inches and three to six in the city and a little bit less to the south.

00:46And then that whole mess spreads to Little Rock and Nashville and Atlanta.

01:32John, really quickly, another problem we're going to have, for example, the Cotton Bowl

01:36in Dallas. Quickly explain. Yeah, we're going to continue to deal with icy conditions because

01:42look at those temperatures overnight. Yeah, as they fall below freezing, any wet or slush will freeze.
