00:00It won't get much better than that one of the great sport towns in America San Francisco California with the iconic Golden Gate Bridge the conditions near perfection it will be Spain it will be Australia and it will be New Zealand to decide who walks away with two million dollars and honors as champion in season four well it looks like Tom Slingsby has looked into his magic ball and got the answer that he would be followed back by Berlin because Berlin is last into the box with 46 seconds to go Spain
00:59C'est parti !
01:30The season four grand final is on as they approach mark number one and it is the Spanish out in front. The first time they have led a race here in San Francisco and they picked the perfect time.
02:12But for gate two we've seen that one more maneuver and a right turn has been the favored move all day. Let's see what they go with.
02:18And the pressure is on the Spanish team here. They have been slightly slower on average on this downwind leg than the Kiwis trailing behind them. But clearly gusting pressure on them now almost up to 80 kilometers an hour.
02:30See the dark patches on the water. That's what they're looking for. That's where your gusts of winds are coming from. You see the speeds at the top of the mast. 76 kilometers an hour for the Spanish out in front.
02:43They got the whole shot and now it is on. It is going to be who can reach this finish line first. We've got six legs to go and the Spanish in prime position.
02:51They're setting it up here. They're getting the right of way when they maneuver the boat here. So they don't need to worry too much about the Australians. They just need to worry about the gate.
02:59Now for the Black Fools. They want to keep things tight as we're heading down to the bottom of the course. Australia.
03:03Oh, there's a late decision there by Slingspeed. That doesn't look like a perfect maneuver, but it's so, so tight. Oh, this was one turning mark at the bottom of the course here.
03:12Spain, they take the right turn. They're going to go around, but New Zealand execute a nice turning advantage. New Zealand at the moment.
03:18As we head towards that boundary on the shoreline there, the Spanish will be able to maneuver away, but the Black Fools are coming as all three boats head off in the same direction.
03:27It's just a boat speed race at the moment. A boat speed race, but there is so much pressure on every maneuver they make, especially as they get in close to the shore and it gets gustier.
03:37They cannot drop off the foils in these maneuvers or they leave the door open to the boats behind to get through.
03:42Here we go. New Zealand, they maneuver straight on top of the Australians. That's not good news for Slingspeed.
03:47And the Spanish now, they're stretching out all the way to boundary here. So now this is a real test of strength as we go across here.
03:54Can the Spanish, with their nose out in front, make that red boat go fast enough? They've struggled all weekend, but they've given themselves the perfect opportunity right now.
04:03But the Black Fools are faster at the moment.
04:05And there you get a good idea of just how big that lead is. It's about 100 meters with Spain at the top of your screen.
04:12The red and yellow. Then it's New Zealand in second place, Australia in third.
04:17All three teams with 100% fly time so far. On average, we're seeing the Spanish push that ride hike just a little bit more than the other two.
04:26Really putting that pressure on themselves to get their first.
04:30Hard moment for the Australians across there, but I think it's going to get hard for the Kiwis from here because Spanish Focus will go on to that second place boat right now.
04:36They'll try and put the boat directly into the wind of the New Zealand boat, try and block the wind down to the New Zealand boat as we're on board the T-Mobile for Business POV camera.
04:47And that's a pretty smooth tack out there. But Lisa, we can see all the boats heading back towards the shoreline. Where's the advantage at the minute?
04:54The shoreline has definitely been paying all day. What's really interesting though is the whole course has gotten way flatter. So that tide is probably ripping in now. So that's flattening the waves out.
05:08So they can probably push the boat like Emily was saying with the ride hike. It has gotten a little bit lighter as well. So they can probably push the boat even more. So it'd be interesting. It is neck and neck here. Anything can happen still.
05:21Oh, they're in a really good patch of wind on that shoreline, Todd. Spain have the right of way here, but the Australians have gone so fast across there. It's going to be a big blocking move by the Spanish. New Zealand now have some space, but they're back in third. But there's nothing in this. When the boats come back together, New Zealand will have the right of way. But are they close enough to make that count?
05:39Coming up on the halfway point here, the grand final leg, three of six. It is Spain, barely ahead of the Australians. And there you see on the left side of your screen, it is New Zealand.
05:49So who is going to make the right decision here as they approach the game?
05:52Speeds are looking good on those teams close to the shore, Spain and Australia. Kiwis looking a little bit slower on average offshore.
06:00I just think there's more wind up on that shoreline. They were in a big patch of breeze up there, the Spanish and the Australians, but there's still plenty to go here in this race.
06:07But the Blackfills have got a problem. They've got to find a way through and there's not going to be easily found.
06:12Spain positioning themselves perfectly. They maybe sailed a little bit further than they needed to here. Could have been right in front of the Australians there.
06:19Slight mistake by the Spanish. They will lead at this gate, but they could have hurt the Australians into here.
06:24It is a safe place for them to manoeuvre though. They can put the bow down, sail a wider angle, accelerates.
06:31You can see here 69, 70 kilometres an hour for the Spanish team.
06:35And watch this as they hit the turbo and make the turn. Look at the speeds.
06:39Oh, 90k an hour around that mark. And here we go. Roll of the dice for New Zealand. Desperation times for the Blackfills.
06:46They've been so dominant in season four, but it doesn't matter. The Spanish boat, who've also really been the surprise act of the whole season.
06:54Well, look at them. Go the gambas.
06:57All the points are washed away to Stevie's point. Although the Kiwis came into this one on 93 points, well clear of Australia and Spain.
07:05Those scores marked away. It is all one race for the title.
07:08Look at the Spanish go. And of course, Wimbledon was won today by Carlos Alcaraz.
07:17The European Football Championships was won today by the Spanish.
07:21And here we go. They're going for the triple.
07:23Feels like it. Feels like momentum's on their side, doesn't it?
07:25But the Australians are not going away anywhere. New Zealand have sailed away from wind.
07:29There's definitely more wind by that shore.
07:31I'm going to keep it close here, guys. We'll take them on the next beat.
07:34Oh, good call. Good call. A solid call. It's not the time to roll it away.
07:37If you want to overtake someone, you don't deliberately do the wrong thing.
07:41You've got to keep the pressure on. Slingsby's been in this situation.
07:44Diego Bottin has never been in a situation where he's got in his hands at the moment.
07:48He holds the SailGP Season 4 trophy.
07:52Diego Bottin now operating with a 100-meter lead.
07:56He does not know what Tom Slingsby is planning, but he's got to know, Stevie.
08:00Tom Slingsby is going to take some chances. He's got one more leg to do it.
08:03And they're setting up here for that final maneuver downwind to that bottom gate.
08:07It's a right turn in. There's no options here.
08:10So they'll be headed back in towards the shore where they had better breeze.
08:16It's pretty nice for the Spanish that there is only one mark at the bottom there.
08:19Where that gate, unfortunately, we've just ended up with one mark.
08:22And it just means total control for the Spanish because Australia have to follow.
08:26So high mode, still doing step-by-step-step-step high.
08:29Okay, the Australians are going to want to try and keep this.
08:31They're going to set it up after the next maneuver.
08:33They'll try and maneuver away first and then rely on their boat speed to get around the Spanish.
08:38But New Zealand, wow, huge loss by sailing away from that shore.
08:41You can see here the Spanish keep trying to sail that slightly higher mode.
08:47So they're a little bit slower than Australia, but they're sailing a shorter distance up the course.
08:51And that's just to get a tactical advantage over Australia.
08:53Oh, they missed the maneuver.
08:55Oh, they missed that.
08:57Oh, the board's not gone down.
08:58You can see the board's not locking.
09:00Oh, that's no.
09:01Huge gains to Spain.
09:02That's a disaster.
09:04That's a tech issue.
09:05The board's now locked.
09:06Big mistake on the tack there.
09:07As they turned the boat, the board needed to click onto the lock.
09:10It didn't.
09:11Oh, I'll be interested to find out what that was.
09:13But that's going to be absolutely disastrous.
09:15It's 150 meter, nearly 200 meter leave for Spain now.
09:19Oh, is this the crowning moment for this Spanish team?
09:23Could this be a Cinderella story played out on the water?
09:26Look at this one more time.
09:27Here we go.
09:27We set up for the maneuver here.
09:28They turn the boat.
09:29It's that foil on the left-hand side of our screen.
09:31See how it starts to come up?
09:32It's coming up.
09:33It's not locked down properly.
09:34And as of that, the boat doesn't stay on the foils.
09:37Disaster for the Australians.
09:39Oh, that...
09:40Oh, what a nightmare for them.
09:42Massive lead now for the Spanish.
09:44Can they make it to this final turning mark with just one more maneuver?
09:47I'm not sure if they can, looking at the angles we've got here.
09:50But the Australians are miles away.
09:53Keep it going.
09:54Yeah, exactly.
09:56Solid, Diego.
09:57I think you've nailed it, mate.
09:58Just got to keep it coming.
09:59They've got to respect the basics now.
10:00That yellow line there, that is the ley line.
10:03So that means once they've passed that, they should be able to do this one final maneuver
10:06and then make it to the final turning mark with no more turns.
10:10This is it.
10:10Season four is going to be Spanish.
10:12They've still got a little distance to go.
10:15Then they'll hit the last gate.
10:16They'll make a quick left-hand turn.
10:18And then it's towards the shore.
10:20Barring any major disaster, Spain will be celebrating well into the night.
10:24And here we go.
10:26Spain bringing it home.
10:27There's mark number five.
10:28There's the finish line.
10:30There's the San Francisco skyline in the distance.
10:32This could be the greatest race in Spanish history.
10:36They won in Los Angeles.
10:37They won at Nuna.
10:38And they've got problems.
10:40They don't have problems.
10:41They've just called that ley line a little bit too tight.
10:44So they're having to sell really high angles to make this mark.
10:46Which means they've come off of the foil here, leaving the door open behind them.
10:51The Australians are coming in 65 kilometers an hour.
10:54Pressure is on for the Spanish team to get back up on the foils here.
11:02Here comes Australia.
11:03They make the turn.
11:04And now it's a drag race to the finish line.
11:07Can the Spanish get it done?
11:08They've got 100 meters to go.
11:10Come on.
11:13And they will get it.
11:14Vamos, España.
11:16Spain claims season four.
11:23Vamos, they guys.
11:24Australia second, New Zealand third, no penalties.
11:30It is official.
11:32Absolutely insane grand final race.
11:38This is a team that started off day one with a seventh place finish, a sixth place finish, a fifth place finish.
11:46And then in race number four, they came back with a seventh only to win the final race, the grand final.
11:53Two million dollars richer.
11:55No one expects the Spanish Inquisition.
11:58And they just got that then perfect.
12:01They won the start.
12:02They led at mark one.
12:03And from there, they kept it calm.
12:05They did the basics really well.
12:06And they sailed fast.
12:08Oh, fantastic.
12:09What a performance by the Spanish team.
12:11This team has gone from strength to strength this season.
12:15They have mastered the light wind conditions and the epic conditions here in San Fran.
12:20Congratulations, Spain.
12:22You have just won season four of SailGP.
12:25blessed, Spain.
12:27back with a series of
12:35.
12:35It's gonna fall out early.
12:37So, you guys, we did this time and we're out here,
12:38then we're ahead of time last year.
