00:00This is Cohen. He's 18 months old and for the last six months he's suffered from severe eczema.
00:06As you can see, he will find any way he can to itch his body for some sort of relief.
00:11He's been admitted to hospital previously and had multiple infections. He tried many different
00:17creams and medications, none of which have helped. The lack of care he's received is heartbreaking
00:23and we are no closer to an answer. It seemed like things would never get better
00:27until mom fought for a solution. We had some allergy testing done when he was admitted to
00:32hospital. I had to specify exactly what I wanted him tested for. Everything I thought it could be
00:37came back that it wasn't. He's had like nine lots of antibiotics over the last three months. I don't
00:43want to keep giving him antibiotics. He's now on a five-week course of oral steroids, which we're
00:48like two and a half weeks into now. That's really affected his mood. I can tell the difference in
00:53him so much. It's so hard for a mother to see your child go through this and unfortunately the
00:57complications weren't over yet. He is the happiest little boy, honestly. So I'm very lucky when it
01:03comes to that. I told you I was an ugly cry. After a long and brutal battle, mom finally has some
01:10answers. We've tried so much already, both medical and natural, so please don't judge the choices I
01:15make. For the last week, Cohen had his wet wraps. The resilience this boy shows with everything that's
01:22thrown his way just blows me away. Most of his bloods are now back and there's nothing too
01:27concerning, just a higher white blood cell and platelet count which indicates inflammation and
01:32infection. We also got the results from his skin biopsy which confirmed this is definitely eczema.
01:38We are now looking to start Tupilumab in just over eight weeks. We are currently speaking to a
01:43homeopath and hoping that this can help us. The main thing to remember is that what works for one
01:50doesn't always work for others and that's been the case for us so far. As you can see from these
01:56clips, the wet wraps worked so well to help soothe and relieve Cohen's skin. Now I know this isn't a
02:03long-term solution and we still have a long way to go on our journey but just look at my boy.
02:08Look at how much his skin has improved. They've finally found a short-term solution but this is
02:13only the beginning of their challenges. Another setback. Last week we ended up back at the hospital
02:19after Cohen's skin started to blister. He was then given a course of antivirals for suspected
02:26eczema herpeticum. Cohen was due to have the chickenpox vaccine on the 25th of June but two days
02:32before that his brother caught it so the vaccine was cancelled. He now has chickenpox. He's such a happy
02:39little boy but this has really set him back. However this could work in our favour as he would still
02:46need to wait eight weeks after his vaccine until he could start dopilumab. Once Cohen's spots have
02:53crusted over he'll have a blood test to check for chickenpox immunity, hopefully cutting out the eight
02:59week wait.
