00:00Hello and welcome. Good evening. You're watching Super 6 here on India Today.
00:05I'm Akshra Tananda Gopal, getting you all the top stories over the next 30 minutes.
00:08Our top focus this evening is on a horrifying story that's come in from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu
00:15of a 19-year-old MBA student being gang-raped right outside the Coimbatore airport.
00:22Three men accused of committing this crime are still out there.
00:26They haven't been nabbed just yet. But there are serious questions being asked here
00:31about the safety of women in a city like Coimbatore, considered to be relatively safe.
00:37What exactly happened? What's the latest update on the investigation?
00:40I'll get you all of those details. Let's begin with the top 10 headlines of the day.
00:49And undoubtedly the biggest headline is that Nadi Shakti has won hearts and broken all past records
00:54by securing the ICC Women's World Cup 2025.
00:58A day after leading India to its made-in-ICC Women's World Cup victory,
01:02Hardman Preet Kaur went viral for a powerful Instagram post,
01:06taking away with the gentleman's game label, declaring that cricket is everyone's game.
01:13With less than two days left for phase one of polling in the Bihar elections,
01:18campaigning is on in full swing.
01:20Prime Minister Modi hit out of the opposition, claiming that the Mahagat Bandhan wanted Vinash
01:25instead of Vikas in Bihar.
01:27Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also targeted the opposition bloc,
01:31calling the MGB leaders as Pappu, Tappu and Appu.
01:39At least 19 people were killed, dozens seriously injured,
01:42after a dumper truck driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol,
01:46went on a five-kilometre rampage in Chaipur.
01:53A 19-year-old college student allegedly gang-raped by three men behind the airport area
01:58in Coimbatore on Sunday night.
02:00Police said the victim was with her friend in a car when the men approached them,
02:04attacked her friend, abducted her and fled the spot.
02:07In a tragic accident in Rangareddi District's Chevala area,
02:15a speeding truck and a passenger bus were involved in a devastating collision.
02:19At least 19 people have lost their lives.
02:21Several others sustained serious injuries.
02:28Sandalwood actor Darshan and his associates now set to face trial in the Renaka Swami murder case.
02:33As all the accused have pleaded not guilty, the case will be closely watched,
02:37given the high-profile names involved.
02:39The trial begins November 10th.
02:43In a big move, the Bengaluru civic body will offer 250 rupees as incentive
02:48to anyone who captures and shares videos of people dumping waste in public.
02:53And they've announced that videos can be sent to them,
02:56after which they'll crack down.
02:57Congress leader Sashita Roor criticised dynastic politics
03:03and called it a grave threat to Indian democracy.
03:05He said politics in India has become a family business,
03:08where leadership is treated as a birthright.
03:13As air quality across Delhi and the national capital region
03:16plunged into the severe and severe plus categories,
03:19the Supreme Court expressed concern over the worsening air quality
03:22and also took note of the fact that several monitoring stations in the capital
03:27were non-functional.
03:31U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Pakistan is among several countries
03:34actively testing nuclear weapons,
03:36asserting that this justifies his administration's decision
03:40to resume America's own nuke testing after more than 30 years.
03:43A horrifying incident has been reported in Coimbatore,
03:54a gang rape of a 19-year-old student.
03:57Here's what we know.
03:58This young girl was with her friend in a car close to the Coimbatore airport
04:03when three men on a bike came and started attacking them.
04:07They vandalised the car using a machete, so they were armed.
04:10But her male friend was beaten up and then they abducted this young girl.
04:15Her friend, despite being badly beaten up,
04:18immediately called a corpse who then launched a search operation,
04:21found the survivor unconscious, dumped by the accused monsters.
04:26Now, this has happened in a city that's considered relatively safe for women.
04:30Coimbatore has always reported lesser crime rates against women
04:33than many other cities.
04:34And yet this kind of a horrific crime has happened in that very city.
04:38And at the time of us reporting on this, the rapists are still out there,
04:43yet to be nabbed by the Coimbatore police.
04:45It looks like they planned this attack since the accused had stolen a motorbike,
04:50went to the spot, attacked the friend,
04:52and then took the survivor to a secluded area where she was sexually assaulted.
04:56And this, mind you, is the second such incident in Tamil Nadu.
05:00A 22-year-old woman who had left her house for a job interview was found two days later dead.
05:07Her body was found burnt in a forest.
05:10And this latest incident in Coimbatore has led to serious questions about women's safety in Tamil Nadu
05:15and the fact that this has happened in a city that's considered to be one of the safest in the state.
05:21I want to bring in now on this broadcast Pramod Madu for the latest updates on this.
05:28Pramod, 24 hours on almost, and there's still no details about the accused.
05:34They're still out there somewhere.
05:36The girl at this point is in a hospital, we're being told, recovering from the attack.
05:42Actually, Sakshita, it's completely unacceptable and complete heinous crime that has occurred
05:50and something that is unimaginable because this was a college student who was with a friend at a place
05:55and he could see the actual visuals of the car that has been damaged as well.
05:59The windshield was broken and there are like broken shards of glass inside the car as well
06:04and the girl was abducted from there.
06:06And this friend of hers has informed the police.
06:08He was also beaten and he has sustained injuries and he's also under treatment.
06:11And only after that, we've been told that around 4 a.m., the girl was found in another different location
06:18and she was taken immediately to the hospital.
06:20And it was the police who has actually confirmed to us that there was gang rape involved.
06:24There's something definitely not acceptable, completely shocking what has happened over.
06:29And now, as the officials have gone over there, more and more information we are actually getting.
06:33That also, there was a bar over there which did not have a license and it was on that vicinity area.
06:38That is being investigated and BJP now has decided to also hold a protest on this particular issue.
06:44And almost all opposition parties in the state have claimed that the security for women has completely deteriorated now, Akshita.
06:51Absolutely a horrifying incident this and we hope that the accused are immediately nabbed.
06:56Pramud also highlighting for us that there's been a whole lot of politics with the opposition.
07:00A.I.A.D.M.K. BJP lashing out at the government saying that this is an indication of the deteriorating law and order in the state.
07:10Let's cut across to now a news break coming in.
07:12And the showdown over SIR continues in Tamil Nadu.
07:23Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has lashed out at the Election Commission claiming that there is an attempt to axe voters from the voter roll.
07:32He says that authentic, real voters are being removed from the voter roll.
07:37This is the attempt that he says the Election Commission is attempting with the SIR process in Tamil Nadu.
07:43Now, Chief Minister Stalin has claimed that there was a voterless fraud that took place in Bihar.
07:48And a repeat of that is going to be taking place in Tamil Nadu as well.
07:52Remember, the DMK has been talking of approaching the Supreme Court in this matter.
07:57In all likelihood, they're going to be doing that also very, very soon.
07:59In all likelihood, they're going to be taking place in Bihar.
08:29Okay, moving on.
08:31Let's tell you about a tragic accident that took place in Telangana.
08:35This happened in Rangaredi District's Chaballa area, where a speeding truck and a passenger bus were involved in a devastating head-on collision,
08:45leading to 19 deaths.
08:47Messages of condolences poured in.
08:49But let's tell you exactly what happened.
08:51How did this tragedy take place in our report first?
08:53Yet another tragedy on the road.
09:08In the early hours of Monday morning, a horrific accident in Chaballa in Rangaredi District left at least 19 people dead and several injured.
09:18A speeding truck carrying gravel rammed an RTC bus coming from the opposite direction.
09:35Such was the impact.
09:36The rescue teams had to work for hours to pull out passengers trapped inside the wreckage.
09:42A gruesome accident that has taken place.
09:48As you can see, the condition of the bus here, how impactful the accident was, which has claimed 19 lives.
09:55Now here, 19 people have died in this tragic accident that has taken place in this Mirjagoda.
10:00This is a single road highway, where a head-on collision of a tipper lorry carrying gravels.
10:06As you can see, the whole bus is covered with gravels.
10:09After the accident, the condition of the driver's seat to several of the seats here have completely collided,
10:17and the gravels here have spread on the passengers.
10:20There were over 50 passengers on the bus that was going to Hyderabad.
10:48Loss of 19 lives so far.
10:54About 20 people are injured, some with simple injuries, some with little more serious injuries.
10:59They are undergoing treatment.
11:00So the process of identification post-mortem is on.
11:04The exact cause of accident we will know in some time.
11:09Obviously, a head-on collision means either it is a mistake of one who has strayed on to the other lane,
11:14or maybe both were in the wrong side.
11:16So we will know as we investigate a little further.
11:20Telangana Chief Minister Revant Reddy has assured all assistance to the victims.
11:26Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and announced an excretia of Rs. 2,00,000 each
11:34for the families of the diseased and Rs. 50,000 for the injured.
11:39Congress leader V. Hanuman Taas sparked controversy by linking the accident to the state's free bus ride scheme for women.
11:48Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
11:58Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
12:14The remnants of that bus really tells you how bad that accident was.
12:28Abdul Bashir is joining us live with more details on this.
12:31Abdul, we understand that the truck was coming in the wrong direction and ramped into this bus in full speed.
12:39And that's what led to so many deaths being reported.
12:42And the death toll right now confirmed by the authority stands at 19.
12:45Well, yes, now here was the lorry, the tipper lorry at the high speed or was the bus at high speed is being investigated.
12:55But what we are understanding is that a bus with a capacity of 15 members approximately is carrying 70 members in its vehicle, the bus vehicle.
13:06And also the tipper lorry was carrying 16 tons of gravel.
13:10That is a huge load that he was carrying in that tipper lorry.
13:14And the collision took place around 6.30 in the morning, in the early hours.
13:18At that moment, when there is quite an amount of traffic in that particular highway,
13:23this is a single road highway whose condition was a little critical when we were traveling by.
13:30But who is responsible for this?
13:32Now here, 19 people have lost their lives, 11 female, among which one was a 10-month-old baby in these 11 female.
13:40And 8 were male passengers in the bus.
13:45The bus driver, the tipper driver, both of them died on the spot.
13:50The conductor, a woman, is right now battling for life.
13:5320 people are injured and right now they are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.
13:58The chief minister, Ravensredi, has taken stock of the situation, announced an extra ratio of 5 lakh rupees to the deceased and 2 lakh rupees to the injured who have been injured in this particular accident.
14:10Now he has also asked the authorities to give a proper medical treatment.
14:14If necessary, the patient should be shifted.
14:16So there are many who are still right now injured, uprears with all of them and hope they recover at the soonest.
14:22We don't see the casualty count going up.
14:25Thanks very much, Abdul, for joining us with those details.
14:30Moving on to Karnataka.
14:31Two and a half years in and the political drama in Karnataka is only going to escalate.
14:37Why do I say that?
14:37Because if you look at really the time and the tenure of the Congress government so far, all of that talk of the 2.5-year CM switch formula kicking in, that should happen in November.
14:51Because November marks Sidra Maya's term of two and a half years as chief minister.
14:57Amid that, there's a lot of talk about leaders lining up to visit Delhi.
15:00D.K. Shiv Kumar is in Delhi in a few days from now.
15:04Chief Minister Sidra Maya is also going to be in Delhi, in all likelihood to meet with the high command.
15:09Rumors are swirling about a leadership change in the Karnataka Congress, in the Karnataka government.
15:15And the BGP is taking a dig with its own brand of satire using AI images.
15:21Let's get you all of those reactions first.
15:23Two and a half years down, two and a half more to go.
15:33But in Karnataka, the question doing the rounds is not about governance.
15:38Possibility of a change of guard about who is wearing the crown.
15:41The BGP, never one to miss an opportunity, took a cheeky swipe at the Congress,
15:48posting an AI-generated poster showing Congress leaders Malik Arjun Karge, D.K. Shivakumar,
15:55J. Parmeshwara and Satish Jharkioli lined up outside a tailor shop.
16:00The caption reading,
16:01We stitch suits for oath-taking ceremonies.
16:06Chief Minister Sidra Maya Do is in no mood to entertain rumours.
16:10He rejects the buzz about leadership change.
16:13State Minister Zameer Ahmed asserts that Sidra Maya will complete his full five-year term.
16:41The political whispers are in fady.
17:05Leaders like Parmeshwara and Jharkioli are set to be in the mix,
17:09with both expected to meet the Congress' high command in Delhi soon.
17:13Minister Priyank Karge, however, played down the meetings lined up with the top grass.
17:17If we don't go meet Mr. Karge, Mr. Rahul Gandhi or Mrs. Sonia Gandhi or Mr. K.C. Veno Gopal,
17:24will we go meet Mr. Hoswale and Mr. Mohan Bhagwat?
17:30This is weird.
17:31I go to Delhi at least once a month.
17:33With various factions pushing their own favourites and the BGP watching the spectacle from the sidelines,
17:41the Karnataka Chief Minister Nathaka seems far from its final act.
17:46Bureau Report, India Today.
17:47Okay, so what exactly is this rotational CM formula all about?
17:56Let's break it down for you.
17:57In 2023, there was endless speculation and a whole lot of tussle and fight
18:03that took place between Sidra Maya and D.K. Shokumar and the two camps.
18:07So what was the formula that was worked out?
18:09But sources told us here on India Today that Sidra Maya was confirmed as the Chief Minister
18:14for two and a half years.
18:16Essentially, the five-year term split into half.
18:192.5 years of Sidra Maya as a Chief Minister.
18:22And then D.K. Shokumar, getting the Deputy Chief Minister post,
18:26reportedly was promised that in 2.5 years, he'd be made the Chief Minister.
18:30What's the current status?
18:31Well, November 2025 marks essentially the 2.5-year term of Sidra Maya coming to an end.
18:37And he's completed that term and will be completing it, rather, on November 20th.
18:42So in another 17 days from now.
18:45But he is vowed that there's no question of a change.
18:47He will carry on and complete his term as Chief Minister,
18:50saying essentially that he will remain for all five years.
18:53As far as D.K. Shokumar is concerned,
18:55he is going to be meeting with the Congress High Commander two days from now.
18:58And whenever he's been asked about whether there's going to be a change in Chief Minister,
19:02whether he'll be made the Chief Minister,
19:04he's always said that he will heed the Congress High Command's decision.
19:09That is ultimately up to them.
19:11At this point, what exactly is happening as far as the CM tussle is concerned?
19:16Well, there's a lot of talk that there's power sharing that's planned
19:20and that there's no CM rotation.
19:22But there's clamour.
19:24And the D.K. supporters are speaking out one after another,
19:26saying it's time now for D.K. Shokumar to be given the crown,
19:30to be made the Chief Minister.
19:33But reportedly, there are some who are suggesting
19:35that D.K. Shokumar is okay currently being the Deputy Chief Minister
19:39and that he's looking at the long-term goal of 2028,
19:43of bringing the party back to power during the next election
19:45and at that point ensuring that the throne is his.
19:49Because Chief Minister Sidramaya too has made it very clear
19:51that this will be the end of his political career.
19:54He will be looking at retiring post this.
19:56Sagaraj is joining us live from Bengaluru with more details on this.
20:00Sagaraj, good evening.
20:02For several times now, you've joined us on this broadcast
20:06over all of the speculation on whether there's going to be a change
20:09in Chief Minister.
20:10November 20th is essentially when the exact date hits
20:13of 2.5 years of Sidramaya as Chief Minister.
20:17Are we going to be seeing a change in CM Sagaraj
20:19or is D.K. Shokumar being patient now?
20:22Is he willing to wait it out till 2028?
20:24D.K. Shokumar is playing a safe game
20:27when it comes to a power change in the state of Karnataka.
20:30He has not made any kind of controversial statement off late.
20:33And he has also maintained that whatever the high command
20:36and Chief Minister says, those are the words from Bibles
20:39and we have to follow that.
20:40And if you notice on the other side,
20:43Sidramaya initially went on to say that he will complete five years.
20:46He is going to be the Chief Minister for five years.
20:48Now, he has a different sound where he says that if high command wishes him,
20:54definitely he will complete five years.
20:55Now, this clearly shows that there are possibilities
20:59that there might be a shift in the power in the state of Karnataka.
21:02As you rightly pointed out,
21:04Chief Minister Sidramaya will be completing two and a half years
21:07on November 20th.
21:09But all eyes on Bihar elections.
21:11Once the Bihar elections results are out,
21:14everything will be cleared.
21:15Whether Sidramaya will continue as the Chief Minister
21:18or D.K. Shukumar will take over from him.
21:20As well as the cabinet reshuffle is also on the cards.
21:24And there are many leaders who wanted to be in the cabinet.
21:27Many of them from D.K. Shukumar camp
21:30as well as Sidramaya camp are eyeing for the cabinet birth.
21:34However, there are more numbers in D.K. Shukumar camp
21:37who wanted the cabinet birth
21:40along with his leader to be the Chief Minister.
21:42So, not surprising that other leaders also smelling opportunity here
21:45amid all of these questions of a churn.
21:47Thanks, Agai, for joining us with those details.
21:52In the last few days,
21:54Bengaluru has witnessed one of the most unusual
21:57anti-litter campaigns in the country.
22:00Call it a garbage name and shame, if you will.
22:03Essentially, Bengalurians caught dumping waste on roads
22:06will find that very garbage in their homes.
22:09So, if the Bengaluru civic body
22:11has evidence of you dumping garbage in a street,
22:13you won't just be fined now.
22:15There will be a ton of garbage
22:16that will be dumped outside your house
22:18to teach you a fitting lesson.
22:21And let's face it,
22:21this unique drive is the need of the hour
22:24because most Indians don't have basic civic sense.
22:28And hopefully, this serves as a deterrent.
22:30The logic is simple here.
22:32If you treat public space like your personal dustbin,
22:35your home will also be treated like a garbage dump
22:38because you can keep saying,
22:40Namma City, Namma Bengaluru,
22:42it's time to actually walk the talk on that,
22:43to treat it like your own and not litter.
22:46And that's not all.
22:47If any of you Bengalurians actually expose
22:50a litter bug in the city,
22:52you'll actually be rewarded.
22:54So, if you see someone littering,
22:55you can shoot a video,
22:56send it across to GBA,
22:58the Greater Bengaluru Authority,
22:59that's been launched.
23:01They've launched, in fact,
23:02an app or a helpline
23:03and you learn 250 rupees as a reward.
23:06Yes, it's a largely symbolic reward,
23:08but an important one.
23:09We hope this campaign is a success
23:11in teaching the city residents basic manners.
23:14And let us know if you think
23:15that this should actually be done
23:16not just in Bengaluru,
23:17but across the country too.
23:23And I'm leaving you on that thought.
23:25Thanks very much for tuning in
23:26to this edition of Super 6.
