Transcript
00:01Scott straight through the red line.
00:04He's got damage, David.
00:05Don't do that!
00:06Stay still!
00:08Derbyshire traffic cops.
00:10It does have warning markers for potential firearms.
00:15Don't hold it! You under arrest.
00:16Intent supply class.
00:17It took.
00:19Police a thousand square miles.
00:23It's a crash, crash.
00:25You got any other injury other than your head?
00:27With some of the UK's most dangerous roads.
00:30Oh, no one's been killed out of this.
00:32I don't know.
00:33Do you know how fast you were going?
00:34It's scary when stuff like this happens.
00:37In life and death situations.
00:39Get on the ground, you'll be tased!
00:41We've got runners.
00:43Place down.
00:45Yes, yes, successful stink.
00:49Around every corner.
00:51It's a great acting, mate.
00:54There's a new challenge for the traffic cops.
00:57Step out of the vehicle now!
01:00I'm going home.
01:01Stay led!
01:02Stop grabbing me like that!
01:06Crash, crash, crash!
01:10Coming up.
01:11Vehicle now failing to stop, failing to stop.
01:13Officers forced to pursue.
01:15Vehicle's now reversing, reversing.
01:18Standby.
01:19Drivers failing to stop.
01:20Get up!
01:21Get up!
01:22Get up now!
01:24It's now off-road, off-road.
01:26Who'll do anything to escape.
01:28Wrong side of the roundabouts.
01:30You're overtaking members of the public.
01:32You just need to find out about your car.
01:34You've been chased around South Yorkshire, Nottingham, Trindal, and it's absolutely wrecked.
01:38And suspects refusing to talk.
01:40I don't know where it is, so that's your problem.
01:42I don't know where it is.
01:58Received mate, thank you.
02:00Near Sheffield, PC Nick Lovett and officers from Derbyshire's rogue crime team are on burglary patrol.
02:07Attention.
02:21And have you seen us growing in Victor too?
02:23Go ahead.
02:25Yeah, current behind the vehicle.
02:26It's got a felt stop marker on it from Ekington.
02:29Back on the 4th.
02:31Audi A3 in black.
02:33Was initially travelling at speed.
02:34It was lit up by local officers where it's then failed to stop.
02:37The pursuits had to be aborted.
02:39The main reason we exist is to stop high-risk road users using the roads to commit crime.
02:46Our specialism is going out, finding those vehicles and getting them stopped and getting people locked up.
02:52I'm in a high-performance, unmarked vehicle pursuit management trained.
02:55I've got Oscar Amy Victor 4 with me.
02:58I'm waiting for Oscar Amy Victor 1 to arrive.
03:00The intention is to cause the vehicle to stop using preemptive tactics.
03:05We've done a massive loop from where we first picked it up.
03:10It's an offside indication.
03:14And it is a right, right, right station road towards halfway.
03:17What that vehicle's been involved in, whether that's been involved in burglaries, thefts from vehicles or theft of vehicles, we don't know.
03:26Bully your marks, you'll be able to get in front of it.
03:30Nick and two other units prepare to surround the car.
03:33There's always that risk that it may be aware of our presence and then fail to stop without being requested to stop.
03:42Yeah, as soon as this car goes, we're going.
03:44As soon as this car goes, we're going.
03:58And a Oscar Amy Victor 2 vehicle now failing to stop, failing to stop.
04:02Station road, can we get South Yorkshire on this channel, please?
04:06Pursuits are inherently dangerous by nature.
04:09Heavy braking, standby, standby, it's a left, left, left.
04:11You are continuously assessing the viability of continuing that pursuit.
04:22Across England and Wales, officers like Nick are involved in nearly 13,000 pursuits every year.
04:29Everything's got to be risk assessed and we've got to find that balance.
04:34So left, left, left, and the further left, left, left.
04:35Of continuing that pursuit to detain that driver against what risks that that driver's taking.
04:41Speed seven, zero.
04:42Speed seven, zero.
04:51It's now off-road, off-road.
04:57It is safe for me to continue.
04:59Standby, standby.
05:00No.
05:08It's total loss.
05:12To see that vehicle driving off and not to find the driver on the night is infuriating and frustrating, to say the very least.
05:20Oh!
05:28From an A, we've got a vehicle failing to stop, Frostitango 38.
05:31Can I just confirm when was last sighting, please?
05:33Currently got a vehicle failing to stop, A617.
05:35Failed to stop drivers are involved in around 40 deaths a year on Britain's roads.
05:46In any pursuit, we are continuously risk assessing.
05:51Local have had a vehicle fail to stop for them.
05:53Is the driver a juvenile? Is it school kicking out time?
05:56Is it travelling into a city centre, which is heavily populated at that time?
06:00Pursuit is authorised with the vehicles that you've got pursuit management trained over.
06:03All those things are continuously going through your head, and that is where you are continuously assessing the viability of continuing that pursuit.
06:1910-12, Tango 2-0. Vehicle failing to stop.
06:23CDW Golf and Silver.
06:25For Georgia.
06:27There's no sign of the black Audi, but within minutes, there's another pursuit.
06:30Speed at this time is 4-0. It's lights out. DRA is medium.
06:36Nick and other units are racing to back up PC John Terry.
06:40JT, I'm on Rotherham Road here. Can you give me a stinger sight?
06:44Yes.
06:46PC Craig Dawes is up ahead with a stinger.
06:48Stop by. It's straight on, straight on. It's going to be Mansfield Road, outbound towards Clown.
06:58Unfortunately, the vehicle chose to carry on and miss my stinger, which enabled me then to get back in the car and join the pursuit.
07:07DRA.
07:08It is. Left, left, left. DRA at this time is medium. No other vehicles on the road. No pedestrian activity.
07:20We're entering South Yorkshire sports area. It's a country road. I can't do any other options.
07:31Passing into the M1 motorway into a 3-0 at 7-0.
07:38You can never sum up the level of risk that these people will take.
07:43He's now playing with not just his own life. Everybody else that's in that area.
07:47Speed is 5-0 and a 3-0.
07:51Stand by. It's hard on the brakes. It's a right, right, right.
07:54Street bomb close. Stand by. It's going to be trying to ram me.
08:03Got at least two miles in the vehicle.
08:08Vehicle's now reversing, reversing. Stand by.
08:22I think it's all we need.
08:24Yes, yes.
08:26Still on Union Street. Vehicle's reversing down the road.
08:30There's at least three adult males within the vehicle.
08:38Slight contact with my vehicle. Safety continue.
08:44We're now Union Street. Still general direction of Kibberton Park.
08:48What's great, anything to do with you?
08:50Any update for MFAS or South Yorkshire resources?
08:55I'll ring him and discuss the helicopter directs.
08:58What's great, anything to do with you?
08:59We are left, left, left. On to Kibberton Lane. Stand by. It's going to be reciprocal.
09:11As the Golf driver makes a U-turn.
09:16That goes to Hard Lane.
09:18Nick takes the lead.
09:19And if we're off, we have it to now. Pursuit. Vehicle is Hard Lane.
09:30DRA is medium. Speed 76.
09:35Two through, I'm in the stick with them.
09:38Heavy on the brakes.
09:41Speed 52. DRA is low.
09:45We are lights out, lights out.
09:50Now light back illuminated. Speed 5-0.
09:56This is a single track road.
09:59Nick, can we get on to knots? This is going directly to them.
10:06DRA is medium. Overtaking member of the public. DRA medium. Back down to low.
10:11At the junction, it is straight over. DRA high. Back down to low.
10:20We are still lights off. We are stationed in road towards Whitwell.
10:25The Golf driver's now been failing to stop for over ten minutes.
10:29You are the driver. You are the comms operator.
10:33Relaying all the information to the other units that are coming to assist you.
10:37We are still lights out. We are into the nationals.
10:42So it is intense. There's a lot of information to be put forward.
10:46This is now unlit road. Lights are back illuminated on the vehicle. Speed 6-2.
10:52It can take quite a heavy toll on you. And it does become tiring at times.
10:57On the approach to the roundabout with Morrison. Standby. Wrong side of the road.
11:02It's now gone. Wrong side of the roundabout.
11:07And it is taking the second to second towards halfway.
11:15Coming up. We are now off-road, off-road.
11:17After a 45-minute pursuit.
11:20Get on the floor. Get on the floor.
11:22We didn't see where the other two went.
11:25Nick and the team are determined to make an arrest.
11:28We've certainly got people detained, but we don't know where they're involved.
11:32We're overtaking members of the public.
11:35And another fail-to-stop driver.
11:38Putting lives in danger.
11:40We're in the triangle, if you are listening.
11:42And that 18 failed to stop.
11:54We're now into the 40s.
11:58Lights are on red.
12:00And standby, standby.
12:02Here straight across, straight over, straight over on red.
12:05With dangerous criminal drivers responsible for nearly 13,000 pursuits every year.
12:10Speed 4-0 in the 30 and increasing.
12:14Managing the risks is a daily challenge for officers like PC Nick Lovers.
12:19DRA is low.
12:21No pedestrians, no vehicles.
12:23Outside Sheffield, police are dealing with their second pursuit within half an hour.
12:32Vehicle's going to try and go off-road.
12:34This type of criminality is happening week in, week out.
12:40We're now off-road, off-road, all over again.
12:44This criminality is, is rife.
12:47We are still going, we're still going.
12:50It is struggling off-road.
12:51It's hard to sum up the level at risk that somebody will take to get away from the police.
12:59They don't want to be caught.
13:00They don't want to be caught.
13:07Hello.
13:08I'm on the...
13:10...water talk greenway.
13:11Is that where I need to be?
13:13It's a total loss, total loss.
13:18Vehicle is a total loss, total loss, off-road.
13:20With Nick unable to continue, other units close by pick up the search for the gulf.
13:31Where are we?
13:32I don't know, mate.
13:34Yeah, it was...
13:35He said it's somewhere here.
13:36Go back that way.
13:40PC Craig Doors begins circling the area.
13:44Honestown, all units last sighted from where the new location is coming down towards Bexham Avenue.
13:50Three, six, and three, three are making towards you for an area of search.
13:54It's already there.
13:58Yeah, I've got the vehicle.
13:59There's a cut-through.
14:00Looks like they've runched back some houses.
14:14This is the vehicle that we've just been pursuing.
14:18They've decamped and gone up there.
14:21Probably gone down this road here and gone that way.
14:25You got a drone?
14:27You up?
14:28Yeah.
14:32With suspects on the run...
14:34N8 from 2-3, drones airborne N8.
14:37The M-pass, we are lifting the drone from Lyla.
14:42A police helicopter and a drone operator scoured the area.
14:47So we're just living the area now.
14:48We're units.
14:49Just trying to get...
14:51I think we've got a bit of a containment on.
14:54We've got dog units coming in the area.
14:55I'm struggling with a street name.
14:56Yeah, pass 3-1-3 right then.
14:59Police, dogs, don't show you now.
15:01Get in yourself, get up!
15:02Get up now!
15:03Get up!
15:04Get up!
15:05Get up!
15:06Get up!
15:07Show me your hands!
15:08Show me your hands!
15:09Get on the floor!
15:10Get on the floor!
15:11Get on the floor!
15:12Get on the floor!
15:13Put your hands on top of your head.
15:14Hands on top of your head.
15:15N8, Julian 6-0, 10-12.
15:16One detained and bitten.
15:17We didn't see where the other two went.
15:18N8, Julian 6-0, 10-12.
15:19They were under arrest and suspiciously have failed to stop and dangerous driving.
15:21You don't have to say anything in the middle of your defence.
15:22You'd make sure we request and see anybody who is in court.
15:24And if you do once they be having evidence.
15:25The walk in the mirror is a bit of a bit of an evidence.
15:27Right?
15:28So make sure you've been fighting for your hands.
15:29You can't go anywhere.
15:30Get up here, get up here.
15:31Okay, yeah.
15:32So make sure to put your hands on top of your head on top of your head.
15:34Okay?
15:35Show me your hands!
15:36Show me your hands!
15:37Get on the floor!
15:38Get on the floor!
15:39Get on the floor!
15:40Put your hands on top of your head!
15:41Put your hands on top of your head!
15:42The suspect claims he's a passenger and not the driver.
15:52That was long.
15:53But we've literally gone through three counties.
15:57In and out of Derbyshire, God knows how many times.
16:00That's two I've lost off-road tonight.
16:04At this point, we don't know why the vehicle's failed to stop.
16:08There's no sign of it being stolen.
16:10There's no ignition damage.
16:12Whether he's drunk, drugged, got something on him he shouldn't have, I don't know.
16:17You know, he's got some questions to answer.
16:23Hiya.
16:27They've certainly got people detained, but we don't know their involvement yet.
16:32Sergeant Adam Shipley arrives to coordinate the search for the driver.
16:36Yeah, he's got blue jeans on and a black puffer coat.
16:40Two more suspects are being questioned.
16:44There's a second male here as well.
16:46Looks like he's got all grey on.
16:48Grey tracksuit.
16:51Grey top with a blue hoodie underneath.
16:52We've got images from our car of the driver and stuff.
16:58Here's two seconds.
17:00Just look at his face.
17:02Look at his hair.
17:05We're all getting back now.
17:06No problem.
17:07I'm not sure about the clothing matches or anything.
17:11Who's it car racing short to?
17:13He's not.
17:14Make sure he's not on the insurance list.
17:15It's stupid.
17:16It's only that busy.
17:17I've got a short guy.
17:18We've got the in-car video.
17:21You know, really clear facial shot of them.
17:24He's got more hair.
17:25Bit of a fade.
17:26And he's got a sweep over.
17:28Yeah.
17:29Which he hasn't.
17:30However, possibly someone in the back.
17:33Yeah.
17:34So I think JT initially gave it a 3-0.
17:36Yeah.
17:37Yeah.
17:37So, yeah.
17:38So, yeah.
17:38So, yeah.
17:38I've got to make sure it's not here.
17:40Yeah.
17:42And a tango share of two.
17:43The people detained, or the person detained on Rose Avenue, has been discounted.
17:50I don't think he's got anything to do with it.
17:52Right.
17:53Basically.
17:54Then we have to start the investigation again, really.
17:56You know, we're not just going to let him forget about it.
17:59Let him walk off into the sunset.
18:01So we have to start doing a bit of proactive work now and locate who they are.
18:11This vehicle now will go up to the compound.
18:13And we'll do a forensic search of it.
18:18Because we've got no positive identification of the driver as of this minute, we need to
18:22do a check, you know, fingerprints, things like that.
18:28Cheers, pal.
18:29Nice one.
18:31This car, the Golf, was registered somebody that lived not too far away from where the car
18:35was abandoned and insured as well to the same.
18:38So one of the logical inquiries is to go around, speak to the owner of it and see what he knows
18:43about it.
18:44And so we've got an idea of what the driver looks like.
18:46And if somebody answers the door and he looks exactly the same as the picture, we know we've
18:51got the right person.
18:52Hiya.
18:55Police, can we pop in and have a word with you, mate?
18:57Not in a minute, I've got my kids, pal.
18:58You just need to find out about your car.
19:00My car?
19:01Yeah.
19:02What do you mean, my car?
19:03Your car, your Golf.
19:04Have you still got it?
19:04Yeah.
19:04Right, yeah.
19:05Where is it?
19:07Should be on my mate's drive.
19:08On your mate's drive?
19:11It's not on your mate's drive, I can assure you that.
19:13Why not?
19:14It's been chased around South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and it's absolutely wrecked.
19:18You can't get it, mate.
19:19No.
19:19That's why we're here, mate.
19:20We're not messing about.
19:22Who's got it tonight?
19:23Has he?
19:24I don't know.
19:25Your car has driven very dangerously tonight.
19:28Is that me?
19:29Is that me?
19:30Well, we don't know that.
19:30We don't know that.
19:32You're putting your legs in my house, you shouldn't have your legs in my house, there's no reason for that.
19:35You're not wanting to talk to us, are you?
19:37I don't want to talk to you, no.
19:38You're the registered keeper of that car, pal.
19:39I don't, all right.
19:40That's it, so you've got a duty of care to tell us under section 172 of the road traffic after who was driving it tonight.
19:44I don't know who's driving it tonight, so I don't know what.
19:46If you fail to tell us, I don't know who's driving it tonight.
19:49Mate, listen, you said it's on your mate's drive, yeah?
19:51I've got dogs in here, I'll say I've got dogs in here.
19:52All right, all right.
19:53For your own safety, I have dogs in here.
19:55Okay.
19:56Is that a threat?
19:56The thing is, if you're not prepared to tell us you're going to get, you're going to get done for all this.
20:08That's my van, dear.
20:09I've got about seven or eight cars in here.
20:11I don't know where it is, so that's your answer.
20:14I don't think we're going to get anywhere here, Dave, are we?
20:16No, you're not.
20:17No, it's all right.
20:20We're not coming back, mate.
20:22We're not coming back.
20:23Oh, my God.
20:26Unbelievable.
20:26Unbelievable, Dave.
20:28He didn't match the description, what he was saying.
20:30He just didn't strike me as being the driver that night.
20:34But he certainly knew who had been the driver, he certainly knew who had got the car, but he wasn't wanting to tell us.
20:39He's been given one under section 172.
20:42Yeah, we still need to put a form through, aren't we?
20:44Put a notice of intended prosecution in.
20:45Send up to him.
20:47Then it's up to him, isn't it?
20:48All right, let's get out of here.
20:49Put up this.
20:50Yeah, we'll do that.
20:53Yeah.
20:54A 172.
20:55Yeah.
20:55Coming up...
20:59He's definitely dangerous.
21:00Worst case scenario is he's not at either address and he's in the wind and we don't find him.
21:07The search for the reckless golf driver continues.
21:11Mail to stop.
21:12And yet another dangerous driver.
21:15We're in the triangle if you lot are listed.
21:17Refusing to stop for officers.
21:21What are you running for?
21:21Vehicle's going to try and go off-road.
21:39It's been four days since officers had a 45-minute pursuit with a Volkswagen Golf.
21:44The vehicle is a total loss, total loss, off-road.
21:53Hey, two up there.
21:59PC Chris Wells-Jackson has been given a lead on where the driver is staying.
22:03So it's half three in the morning, we're just off to do an attempted arrest for a gentleman
22:13that failed to stop a few nights back.
22:16There's quite a few offences to lock this chap up for.
22:19He's gone off-road a few times as well.
22:22Gone through red lights, etc.
22:26So it's definitely a dangerous driving.
22:29Failing stop for police.
22:31He's got no licence, not insured on the vehicle.
22:34Best case scenario is he's at one of the addresses.
22:37He comes quietly, potential prison time.
22:40Worst case scenario is he's not at either address and he's in the wind and we don't find him.
22:48Chris's destination is across the border in Sheffield.
22:51It is very frustrating when people do get away, but luckily we work quite well with the forces
22:58and we share that intelligence, which gives us that advantage that we can get these people caught.
23:21Sorry to bother you.
23:34Is he here?
23:35Yeah.
23:35I've just got a note on that.
23:38Just come in then.
23:39Is he here, Luke?
23:40Yeah.
23:41Whereabouts is he?
23:42He's here, so just keep an eye.
23:47Alex, is that this address?
23:53There he is in.
23:55Are you dressed?
23:55Yeah, I've said anything in my own defence so you don't mention when I question something
23:59with a place of line on my court.
24:01Anything you do say may be given in evidence, okay?
24:04Necessity for your arrest is for a prompt and effective investigation.
24:07Wonderful, ma'am.
24:08Oh, you're shouting at him.
24:10I don't know if he's the one trying to stack the floor, aren't you?
24:12Who do you think you're f***ing to?
24:15And I ask a tango who you're fun on.
24:17Man, where's my jumper?
24:19Just let you know, I've got one adult male in custody.
24:22We're going in the nice, big luxury command vehicle over here.
24:26Left, left, left.
24:26It's satisfying to know that even though you can't always get them on every occasion,
24:31it is just a matter of time.
24:33Jump in the affair.
24:34Eventually, they do get caught.
24:36All right, I'll stick your belt on for you.
24:50Oh, chap.
24:52After a morning in the cells, the suspect golf driver is being dealt with by PC Craig Dawes.
25:00So, on the B6058 Kilomash,
25:04A618 Kilomash.
25:07Kilomash Lane, Woodall Lane.
25:09I had the task of reading the charges out to him,
25:13which involved every single road that he'd pretty much been on for 45 to 50 minutes.
25:18OK, on the issue of bail, but they are going to refuse bail on this occasion.
25:22Obviously, the actions in avoiding police at that time would lead me to believe that if
25:26bailed at this time, you know, a third sentence could see the calls and you may be with flight
25:29on this.
25:30And also, to prevent your driving in the meantime, because I think you're a considerable danger
25:36to other road abusers.
25:38You've not been interviewed because the evidence is overwhelming placing you in the vehicle
25:42for those offences.
25:43OK, that's why you've not been interviewed.
25:45I want to remind you of your answer being in the offence time.
25:47I haven't been interviewed.
25:48You've not been interviewed because the officer who made the charges have reviewed the case.
25:54It's that evidence against you is overwhelming, that you can be placed in the car while those
25:59offences are being committed as the driver.
26:01That's why you've not been interviewed.
26:02OK, due to the quality of the footage we've got, we've managed to get a great facial recognition
26:08of the driver.
26:09So with that, it was deemed that we didn't need to interview him.
26:13And all of a sudden, that cockiness went from him and there's a little bit of panic
26:17on his face.
26:18So that was brilliant.
26:19That was for us.
26:20The driver's being held on remand and may now be facing a custodial sentence.
26:26The next step for him now is straight from police custody straight to court.
26:30And then it's for the court to decide what happens next to him.
26:42Any traffic units monitoring, they've got an assistance shout in Derby City Centre if
26:46anyone can start making the way there.
26:51With the risks of pursuing dangerous drivers under constant scrutiny, teamwork is crucial
26:58for officers like PC Nick Lovett.
27:02We work closely as a team.
27:05There's very, very rare occasions that you would only get one vehicle stopping, stopping
27:09a car of that nature.
27:11If anything should happen, vehicle sighted, we know we can have four, five, up six vehicles
27:18in and around that vehicle very, very quickly to get it stopped safely.
27:23In Derby, Nick's team-mates need urgent back-up.
27:32An AOS Gromio Victor 6 got vehicle failing to stop Derby.
27:36Steven?
27:37I've got a vehicle failing to stop the local units at Derby City Centre.
27:41If you've got any ops mobiles, please can start making their way to the area to flood the
27:44area and find this vehicle.
27:46We've been obliged.
27:46Nick and other units are seven minutes away.
27:49Speed 7-0, DRA medium for overtaking members of the public towards Uncommon traffic.
28:02We're through that, DRA returns to low.
28:06Hey there, Scotty.
28:08We're in the triangle at that 18, failed to stop.
28:11DRA high as we're through the lights and it's a right, right, right.
28:14It's a temporary loss at this time.
28:26There you go.
28:27I don't know which way.
28:32Total loss.
28:34It's a total loss.
28:36Total loss.
28:40DRA high as we can.
28:41Units surround the area.
28:50Yeah, I've got this vehicle.
28:52And find the gulf abandoned.
28:54But with no sign of the driver, Nick leads the search for a suspect.
29:00We're going to go and try and find this individual, get him stopped and get him searched.
29:05I think you'll have gone on this industrial state here.
29:23If I'm honest.
29:26I swear to you.
29:27You there, Scotty?
29:41Hello.
29:43Give us a description of what the bloke's wearing.
29:45What's the feeling?
29:46What's the feeling?
29:47What's the feeling?
29:48I've seen you from the rear of the car, mate.
29:49What's the feeling?
29:50He had, like, a big puffer jacket on.
29:52Definitely with the hood.
29:53And it had some sort of pattern on.
29:55You all right, Cap?
29:56Come here.
29:57You all right?
29:58Yeah, you.
29:59Come here.
30:00Good.
30:01Do you know him?
30:02Yeah.
30:03He's my friend.
30:04I've come to meet him.
30:05What are you running for?
30:06Come to meet him.
30:07As soon as I'm asking, listen.
30:08As soon as I'm asking, we've had a failed stop with a car with somebody where a car's
30:13made off from one of our cops.
30:15Yeah.
30:16Yeah?
30:17You're running in the direction where we believe that the driver will have gone to.
30:21Okay?
30:22You match roughly the description I've been given.
30:25So at this moment in time, I need to detain you to ask you more questions to establish whether
30:29you're involved or not.
30:31So just put your hands out for me.
30:33I don't get that.
30:34Wait.
30:35No, no.
30:36Don't think it.
30:37Don't.
30:38What are you pushing me for?
30:39Hey.
30:40Don't.
30:41I'm not doing anything.
30:42Okay.
30:43All I want to do is I want to make sure that you're not involved.
30:45You are running the direction as I'd expect you to.
30:48So you smoke and you smell of alcohol.
30:51Don't.
30:52Don't.
30:53Don't.
30:54I don't get what's going on.
30:56Why are you not putting me in the car?
30:58I've told you.
30:59I've told you.
31:00I've told you exactly.
31:01Just sit in there.
31:02Sit in there.
31:03Why should I sit in there for?
31:04Because, okay, you don't have to at the moment in time, but, okay, but it will be easier
31:12and you're out of public.
31:14So just sit in there for me.
31:15We always want them to be detained safely and swiftly to allow them no time to be able
31:24to do anything.
31:25You are in exactly the same area as I would expect this person to be.
31:29You are wearing a puffer jacket, which has been described to me.
31:33Okay.
31:34So at this moment in time, I believe you to be involved.
31:37So if you don't, if you don't comply with this, I'll just Nick you and put you in the
31:41car.
31:42At this moment in time, I want cops to come and make sure if you are involved or not.
31:45That's absolutely fine.
31:46Okay.
31:47Nick and the team suspect the man made off to conceal the evidence.
31:51It's because there's something in the vehicle, something on them that they don't want us to find
31:56and they know the outcome and they know the repercussions.
31:59What's his name?
32:00What's your name, mate?
32:02He won't give it.
32:03Yeah.
32:04Okay, mate.
32:05But at this moment in time, what are we on?
32:07Half eight.
32:08You're under arrest.
32:09Counts of suspicion of dangerous driving.
32:11Failing.
32:12You might want to bag him as well.
32:13So you do not have to say anything.
32:14We may harm your defence.
32:15You do not mention when questions to which you later rely on in court.
32:17You do so maybe given the evidence.
32:18The rest is necessary to allow for prompt effective investigation.
32:21There's a...
32:22Mate, there's a phone going nuts in his pocket.
32:24Right, we've got his dad on that.
32:26There you go.
32:27He's come.
32:28He's come running across here.
32:29I've come down here.
32:30He's going more than that.
32:31More.
32:32More.
32:33More.
32:34More.
32:35More.
32:36More.
32:37More.
32:38More.
32:39More.
32:40More.
32:41More.
32:42More.
32:43More.
32:44More.
32:45More.
32:46More.
32:47More.
32:48You're going to step until number three at the point,
32:48we just avoided a drink driving charge.
32:49Come on then, chap!
32:50But still faces questions about other offences.
32:55Take a seat.
32:56Have you got a drivingление?
33:12your driving license you have you're disqualified no got insurance for the car
33:20yeah officers believe the man may be hiding drugs
33:28obviously he's had a couple of minutes where things are probably if i had to guess things
33:33have gone out windows but there's also a chance that because he's stopped to manage to get away
33:37from the car that it could have on him too and that's there we do a strip search for him
33:43that left this car he's got his underwear okay you've been arrested before
33:52as soon as in the side pocket
33:53it's west 11. there's no liking in people being taken in for strip searches and things but
34:20given where we know people will hide drugs will conceal drugs you know that the tactics that we
34:26use are truly needed and truly warranted i suspect you might submit some of that drugs in your
34:33underwear you don't know i'm not going to take the chance of me grabbing it waiting around
34:38no drugs are found but the man may still face driving charges and you can stare all your
34:44like me it doesn't intimidate any of us coming up it's going to probably felt stop craig faces a risky
34:53two-wheel pursuit please get off the bike no do not move and recovers a stolen moped i think you just
34:59brought the bar before its rider makes off
35:17and ask tango two three can you do me a pin seat please near chesterfield pc craig
35:24doors is in an unmarked car following a suspicious motorbike oscar tango two three that should come
35:31back to a moped um it's two up it's got no um l plates on it and it looks like a smallish scooter
35:41and it's not great and the information has just come back that this vehicle is believed to be a stolen
35:48moped in derbyshire we're seeing a huge increase in in mopeds and motorbikes being stolen one because
35:55of the ease of it and two i think because there's so many around you know and then people just going
36:00around looking and just stealing them my concern is he's driving quite erratic it's two up and the
36:07temperatures at the moment are in freezing as soon as you try to stop the bike the chances are he's going
36:11to go and possibly my action could cause him to come off or take extra risk that he wasn't doing
36:16it's very dangerous and it's quite risk risky yep from two three my plan will be at this time the
36:23following two is comes to a stop or i get the opportunity to uh to get out and grab him yes all
36:30received i have authorized preemptive stinger however if this vehicle is to fail stop for officers
36:35be unlikely to be authorized pursuit capability of the bike so yep received thank you at the moment
36:42i've not got any other units around me so it's no use um putting the lights and sirens on because
36:47if it is stolen he's going to fail to stop a pursuit with the bike is probably one of the highest risks
36:52that we face um simply the fact that if they lose control they're coming off and put the extra weight
36:58of a pillion passenger on the likelihood is they're going to hit something or someone looking at it it
37:03doesn't look a 23 plate bike to me it looks quite a an old one or you know it's not been kept in the
37:11best condition i realized he's not you know he's not paying attention to to me at all he was too busy
37:18talking to his passenger if if he's aware of that that bike's stolen then he's not going to want to get
37:23caught on that with the rider distracted craig seizes the chance to prevent a chase
37:34don't move mommy yeah i know she misses get off the bike my first look get the engine off to to stop
37:40him going anywhere no do not move do not make it to run for it yeah yeah yeah will you bring my dad
37:46please me i think you just brought the bike yeah yeah no worries yeah he's surrendering he's not going
37:53to try and ride off because i've still got all of his helmet come taxi to my car and then everything's
37:57slow time now pal can you get good lad i'm happy with his uh with his conduct he was quite compliant
38:07so that was a relief anything you do say maybe give notes do you understand that yeah is it your bike
38:12then i literally just brought it yesterday yesterday so you got no insurance have you got any insurance on it
38:21okay well have you took any insurance out and have you got any um you got a license okay
38:32right so basically there's information that that bike's stolen okay
38:36that bike's stolen hence why you've been grabbed like that all right
38:42you need to be having a chat with him don't you
38:47you don't think you're a bit dodgy on a 23 plate when it's smashed to bits like that
38:51to be fair i did but you know when he was telling me that all logbook were coming through
38:55and all this and that telling me he's bought off facebook and his mate's going to post the logbook
39:00i don't believe he's the one that's stolen it he's seen an opportunity to buy a cheap bike
39:04and and taking it how do you mate all right all right all right no problem do you know what's
39:11what's happened no no phone call from his girl okay basically um i followed this bike from tip shelf
39:18riding absolutely atrocious with his missus on them icy cold lanes run it through let's come back as a
39:24stolen vehicle dad turns up and at first i think he's going to be anti-police he's been caning it 60
39:30miles an hour at some point and he's wobbling all over it it's minus two degrees he's actually
39:35very very supportive in in what we do and the action we've taken positive is he's coming home
39:41with you we're not scratching on him that's the main thing isn't it yeah it could have been a lot
39:45different thank you i respect all right no problem and cheers for you being spot on as well
39:48like i said it's been bang on so give two minutes and we'll take cuffs off him and get his details
39:54report him nice one pal thank you all right cheers not a problem thank you cheers thank you very
39:59he just says when you finish with him pass him on to me and i'll sort it so it was quite quite nice
40:05that his dad had that attitude let's take these off now these don't need to be on do they listen mate
40:09i'm not going there mate your dad's here he knows the score so what have you learned from today not to
40:18buy bikes off and also not to drive like that and also don't drive a bike because you haven't got a
40:24license you've got no insurance you've got no help plates on and you're driving like you pull me up in
40:28like a couple weeks time i will otherwise right but just remember mate you were lucky them roads down
40:33there were atrocious and where you were going and losing i thought we're in trouble here all right
40:38take it easy every year officers across britain carry out over eight million high-speed response
40:50calls including pursuing vehicles that fail to stop
41:01most important job of the day a pursuit for us as traffic officers is probably one of the toughest
41:07incidents we deal with been another eventful one um just another typical day on the roads of
41:13derbyshire a daily occurrence for myself is to avoid pursuits no officer wants to get involved
41:18in a pursuit because of the the dangers so i'll do everything i can to bring something to a
41:23conclusion to get that vehicle stopped safely with no injuries to the occupants of the vehicle or
41:28the public you're continually forming a plan to try and do that that's my end of being on the road today
41:37so it's carry a certain level of risk that risk is highly dependent on what the the fleeing driver
41:48is prepared to do and the risks that that driver is prepared to take we're always assessing and we're
41:53always managing that risk derbyshire have specialist officers that can pursue vehicles can bring pursuits to
42:02a tactical resolution through either vehicle taxes or stingers to be able to bring these these um
42:09suits to a to a stop as quickly but as safely as possible unfortunately we do have to engage in a
42:15pursuit because it's deterrent for others the noise you at the lengths that people go to to try and get
42:20away from us you know going up the wrong side of roads going on pavements it is frightening you know
42:26these are innocent members of the public that's out there and don't deserve to be involved in anything
42:31that's going off like that in this episode got at least two miles in the vehicle the reckless golf
42:41driver involved in a 45 minute pursuit straight over on red was remanded to prison by the courts the
42:48following day charged with dangerous driving failing to stop for police no insurance and no license
42:55at court he received a 12-month prison sentence and was disqualified from driving for 30 months
43:02show me your hands show me your hands get on the floor get on the floor
43:06the passenger bitten by a police dog received medical attention and was released without charge
43:13what do you mean something about your car
43:15yeah it's been chased around south yorkshire nottinghamshire and derbyshire and it's absolutely wrecked the
43:19vehicles registered owner was served with a notice of intended prosecution for failing to provide
43:24details of the driver if prosecuted he could receive a fine of up to a thousand pounds the driver who
43:32wouldn't answer any of the road crime team's questions has been summoned to court for dangerous
43:36driving failing to stop for police and no insurance get off the bike no do not move no action was
43:44taken against the young rider for any theft offenses i think you just bought the bar yeah yeah no worries
43:50but he was prosecuted for no license and no insurance and received a 140 pound fine and six
43:56points on his license what have you learned from today not to buy bikes off and also not to drive
44:04and a oscar evict to do vehicle now failing to stop failing to stop and inquiries are ongoing in
44:10relation to the identity of the driver who failed to stop for nick and went off road near the south
44:16yorkshire border it's total off
