00:15Speed is 4-0. The vehicle's all over the road.
00:19Driving head-on.
00:20He's up the kerb.
00:21Into danger.
00:22Just have a warning, Marcus. Have firearms.
00:25Vehicle's stolen.
00:26Get out of the car!
00:28Wow, good.
00:29Designed to look like a mobile phone.
00:31Don't pull away, fella.
00:33With rising crime rates.
00:36Officers are under pressure.
00:38Stop! Get out of here!
00:40You're doing it!
00:41Come out here now!
00:42You're under arrest.
00:45Please!
00:46With lives on the line.
00:47We're going to need at least three or four ambulances.
00:51Is it fuel?
00:52Right, move away from this car now!
00:54The stakes are high.
00:56It isn't looking good at the minute.
00:57For the traffic cops.
00:59You've blown 128.
01:0011 minutes past two in the afternoon.
01:02You're under arrest.
01:03I'm speaking of theft of motor vehicles.
01:05Kenny, do not run.
01:07Smack the officer!
01:09A major promise!
01:10Alright.
01:15Coming up.
01:16Oi!
01:17We're not having you spitting!
01:19Come on, Hans!
01:19Stop spitting!
01:20Drunk.
01:21This person driving along with no lights on.
01:23Hands out the window.
01:25Dangerous.
01:25All over!
01:27And disorderly.
01:28Get out the car now!
01:30Officers tackle drivers under the influence.
01:33It didn't have to be like that, did it?
01:37And out of control.
01:39Pass me!
01:40I'll slap you out with the car!
01:41No, you won't slap me as long!
01:43I'm going to find out how you can use arm and where you live.
01:46Don't make threats!
01:47Do you have any units that can start making their way to the town centre?
02:03Do you have any units that can start making their way, please?
02:05I've had a report of a car versus a motorbike.
02:07I believe we do have one casualty.
02:08Suspect vehicles left seen.
02:11Vehicle details at this time are unknown.
02:12If we've got any units that can start travelling.
02:15Yeah, two, four.
02:17Traffic cop Rich Morris is responding to a crash involving a suspected drink driver.
02:23It's just been sighted by a member of the public.
02:26It's crashed into him and it's run a red line.
02:32Why is it hurting?
02:34Elbow on my wrist.
02:35Elbow on your wrist, okay.
02:36In Derby city centre, local officers find the biker involved in the crash.
02:42Did you see what happened?
02:43So I'm stopping and I could see in my mirror, I saw like he was not going to stop.
02:48Because he hit me in the back and it like wobbled me and I just kind of just like veered to the side.
02:52Right.
02:53And I just couldn't keep the balance on it.
02:54Okay.
02:55The rider alleges a black Peugeot drove into the back of his motorbike whilst he was stopped at a red light.
03:02I take pictures as well.
03:04He is too much drinking.
03:06Yeah.
03:06This car, I take pictures but he's safe.
03:09The witness's photo of the car gives police a number plate.
03:13He was really drunk, wasn't he?
03:15Did you speak to him?
03:15Yeah.
03:16Yeah.
03:17As soon as I rang the police, he backed off and got in his car.
03:19He's not stopping, he hogging.
03:21Any decent person would stop and be helping at the scene of a collision.
03:26And if somebody's just driving off, then why are they trying to hide?
03:30One of us could give you a lift to hospital.
03:32That would be amazing.
03:32Do you want to come and get him a collie's car then?
03:34They'll take you to hospital.
03:35Yeah.
03:41Do you want a hand?
03:41Do you want to walk?
03:42Just give a little bit of a hand, please.
03:45With the biker on his way to get medical care.
03:49Rich and other units begin a search for the black Peugeot.
03:54A car in the wrong hands is a dangerous weapon.
03:57This guy's a potential drink driver.
03:59He's left the scene of a collision.
04:01What I don't want is him being involved in any more incidents.
04:05I mean, it's possibly going back to the home address.
04:09Yeah, 2-4.
04:10The Peugeot has hit police cameras close to its registered address.
04:14Is he going to go home?
04:16Probably.
04:17Whether he's actually got there.
04:23Any tango on zero?
04:25Dad?
04:27It's back at the hay chain.
04:30Yeah, it's parked up unattended.
04:32Other officers arrive for backup.
04:41That's the vehicle there.
04:42As a police officer, we never give good news out.
04:45You know, we're not telling anybody they won the lottery.
04:47And that in itself can send people up like a bottle of pot.
04:50But then you add alcohol into that factor as well.
04:52And they do become a nuisance, become aggressive and unpredictable.
04:56What are you doing there for?
04:58Stand by.
05:00There's about half a dozen houses in.
05:08Just rang the doorbell now.
05:09OK.
05:10The woman says the car's her partner's and that he's inside the address.
05:26Right, where is he? Has he said anything about being involved in an accident?
05:33Just to clarify, how long has he been in? Has he had anything to drink since he's come
05:37out? No alcohol. Is there any alcohol in the address? No empty bottles.
05:47As more officers arrive, the woman says there is no alcohol in the house.
05:52Hello, it's the police. Rich finds a man is asleep in bed.
05:57OK, your car's suspected of being involved in an accident tonight. OK, what's going on?
06:07He's been involved in a collision with this motorbike. He's stated, oh, I've had a drink
06:11since I've come home. If you've had alcohol in this house, where's the alcohol? Where is
06:17it? Where's the empty bottle? It's in the bin. What bin? OK, at the moment, you're under arrest,
06:23on suspicion of drink driving, OK? So I can breathalise you and establish if you are over
06:29the limit, OK? Get up. I'm not bothered breathalising him. I can smell intoxicants, his eyes are glazed,
06:36so I want to just get him to custody as soon as possible. Come on, you're a mess. Get up.
06:41You should be driving while you're drunk, should you? I have handcuffed him for my safety. I'm trying
06:46to get him out of bed. Come on. Let's go, fella. Come on. Get up! Get up! Get up! Get up! Get up now!
06:55Last chance to get up before I drag you out of that bed. Get up! Drag me out. What's wrong with you?
07:01You're not listening to me? No, but I'm listening to you. Thank you. Get up then.
07:06He's not complying with what I'm asking, so I'm a bit more forceful. Tell him I want him
07:11to get out of bed, and that's when things change.
07:15Shut up. Don't tell me to tell you. Shut up. Good going.
07:18Well, why don't you shout? Don't tell me to shout. Chill out. Don't you shout out.
07:22Calm down, pal. Calm down. That's not normal average. Calm down. Don't tell me to shout.
07:26Calm down. Shut up. Calm down. Calm down. You shout. Calm down. You shout.
07:31Calm down. Calm down. Don't tell me to shout. Hello. You f***ed up. You.
07:36He just escalates then. Very unpredictable. Oh, no. Oh, no. We're not going to hold down.
07:42Oi. We're not having you spitting. It's dirty. Stop spitting.
07:49We're not having anybody spitting at us. It's disgusting. That's an assault. We're not allowing that to happen.
07:55We will use pre-emptive force. Come walk with me. Be nice, man. Come on.
08:04Don't abuse me, yeah? You two. Stand up.
08:07If I'm on one zero, smell has become increasingly violent.
08:11Yeah, it's good. Yeah, it's good. Yeah, it's good. Yeah, it's good.
08:14Don't abuse me, man. Don't abuse me.
08:19While officers take the suspect to custody, Rich looks for evidence.
08:25He's taken a proper dislike to me at this point, so I thought, you know what, I'll stay back.
08:30I'll search the bin and see if there are any alcohol containers in there.
08:34Yeah, there's no empty alcohol containers.
08:43I've looked through the bins and there's absolutely nothing.
08:46Right, this is the subject vehicle.
08:49Rich turns his attention to the suspect's car.
08:53You can see, I don't know how he's managed to get home, to be honest.
08:56It clearly, is it a curb there?
08:58You can see that, which is there. It's tinted the rim.
09:01That has now caused a puncture on this.
09:03He's also, he's got scuffs on here as a result of the collision with the motorbike.
09:08We can take paint samples from that.
09:15Inside the car, Rich finds more evidence.
09:18There is some empty vodka bottles.
09:23It's just a bit of a mess, isn't it?
09:26There comes a time where you've got to take responsibility for your actions.
09:29He's chose to go out and get drunk in his car tonight.
09:31We haven't made him do that, but he's angry with me.
09:34He should be angry with himself, really, not with me.
09:37Coming up...
09:38Oh, slap me, I wouldn't stop.
09:39No, you won't slap me at all.
09:41In custody, some shocking threats.
09:44I'm going to find out who you are and where you live, OK?
09:50My vehicle failing stopped.
09:52And the cops spot a car...
09:53No lights on, runs out the window.
09:56...putting lives at risk.
09:58Pull over, that way.
10:00She's got the message.
10:07Why is it hurting?
10:08Elbow on my wrist.
10:09Elbow on your wrist.
10:10Did you see what happened?
10:11He's too much drinking.
10:12In the city centre, a suspected hit-and-run crash has left a motorbike rider needing hospital treatment.
10:28Let's give a little bit of a hand up, please.
10:32Traffic cop Rich Morris and other officers have tracked down a drunk man, believed to be the driver, at a nearby address.
10:39Oi!
10:40We're not having you spitting, yeah?
10:42It's dirty!
10:43Stop spitting!
10:44If they don't come one zero, the smell has become increasingly violent.
10:49Leave me alone!
10:50Leave me alone!
10:51I'll go with him!
10:52With assaults on emergency workers on the rise, three quarters of the UK's police officers have been hurt while dealing with people under the influence.
11:01Don't fall on me!
11:11Whoa!
11:12Not steady on her feet.
11:13I'll give you a hand.
11:14How about that?
11:15All right.
11:16Let's go straight ahead.
11:17All right.
11:18Yes, mate.
11:19You got it?
11:20At police custody, Rich books the man in before breathalising him.
11:24Sarge, how are you?
11:26Good, thank you.
11:27I'm living the dream.
11:28So, since the arrest are, there's information that this chap here was driving around earlier in his vehicle, potentially drunk.
11:35He's been involved in a road traffic collision in Derby, where it's collided with a motorbike, carried on driving, where he's then run a red traffic light, nearly caused another accident.
11:46So, we then attended the home address, where the vehicle's parked outside, and we've woke him up, where he's then said he's had a drink, so he's been arrested.
11:57Let me finish.
11:58Let me finish.
11:59When he's been arrested for being, let me finish.
12:01When he's been arrested for being on through a drink.
12:04It's rude to interrupt.
12:05Yeah, but rude, aren't you?
12:06Shhh.
12:07Yeah, but don't shush me.
12:08Well, it's rude to interrupt.
12:09No.
12:10You took me to shower when you arrested me.
12:12Yes, I did.
12:13I want to, I want to counteract that, yeah?
12:16This isn't the time for it.
12:17Well, there's got to be some time for it.
12:20Dealing with drunks, or people that have had alcohol, you can see it escalating.
12:26You look at the body language, you look at the gesture, and you just know what's coming next.
12:31You know, lads, don't tell me shush, and don't tell me shush.
12:38Why do you tell me shush?
12:40Answer it.
12:41Go on.
12:42Three, one.
12:43What's it?
12:45Get back over there.
12:46Don't pick me.
12:47Don't push me.
12:48elect the speed.
12:49All my cuff.
12:50All my cuff.
12:51No!
12:52All my cuff, bro.
12:54How could I affect him?
12:56If he's not capable of handling even I'm inpeople, how is he without anyuffs?
12:57Necessive for the arrest is for the prompt and effective investigation offence
13:01to put him on the intoxilizer machine to establish whether the level of alcohol in his breath
13:09is above the prescribed limit.
13:11Custody officers have come out and they kind of surrounded him a bit because he's become unpredictable again and potentially violent
13:18But you mate, you're not worthy of dealing in public. I'll tell you that now. Yeah, look at me in my eyes
13:25You're not worthy of it
13:27I'll slap you out of wits
13:29I'll slap you out of wits
13:31No you won't slap me, I'll slap you out
13:33Who the f*** are you telling me shut up
13:36I'm going to find out who you are and where you live
13:41Don't make threats, the cops are going behind you
13:43That's alright
13:44No problem
13:45No, put my locker
13:47It's alright, you can just talk to yourself
13:49He's just like this at me all the time and
13:52Tell him to go away
13:54Tell him to go away
13:56Bro, tell him to go away
13:59Tell that mate to go away
14:01Tell that guy to go away
14:03He needs to go
14:04Yeah, just because you wear a police uniform
14:07Does that really mean you're subjected to that?
14:09I don't think so
14:10I'm brand British, yeah?
14:11British
14:12You understand me?
14:13You understand?
14:14I'm British
14:15Don't
14:16Don't
14:17No, I will do what I want
14:18Get your f*** hands up me
14:19I'm British
14:20Stop being a pig
14:21No
14:22Stop being a pig
14:23No
14:24Stop being a pig
14:25Stop being a pig
14:26Stop being a pig
14:27Stop being a pig
14:28Stop being a pig
14:29Stop being a pig
14:30Stop being a pig
14:31Stop being a pig
14:32Stop tensing up
14:33Stop tensing up
14:34Stop tensing up
14:35Why?
14:36Relax yourself
14:37I'll relax myself when you relax yourself
14:39Still got the handcuffs on
14:40But even in handcuffs
14:41Somebody can be
14:42Unpredictable and violent
14:44And he was
14:45Do you agree to provide two specimens of pressure analysis?
14:48No I don't
14:49No I don't
14:50I warn you again
14:51That for you to provide
14:52I'll warn you as well
14:53Let me finish
14:54Let me finish
14:56I warn you again that for you to provide either of these specimens will render you liable to prosecution
15:03Do you now agree to provide two specimens of pressure analysis?
15:05I'm not providing any specimens
15:07Are there any medical or other reasons why you cannot or should not provide two specimens of breath?
15:14Do you know that?
15:15No
15:16No
15:17I'm not a doctor
15:18Unless you've got a nurse or anyone who can provide that information and let me know
15:25But I can't say that in the sun or is that too hard to grasp?
15:32Stay on camera
15:33That's it
15:34Fail to provide his absolute opportunity
15:36Don't smile
15:37Don't smile
15:38Don't smile at me
15:39Let's go this way
15:40Because you know you never know
15:43We're not going to be able to help you
15:45You never know
15:46Come on this way
15:47Yeah you'll be
15:48You'll be
15:49You know what you love
15:54We can't force somebody to give us a breath sample
15:57We can request it
15:58We can't force it
15:59He's going to need an interview because he's not being seen driving
16:08But he ain't going to be fit till morning anyway is he?
16:11And I'm certainly not interviewing him anyway
16:16It's a straight up offence centre failing to provide a sample of breath
16:19Somebody can pick them up in the morning, interview him
16:22And they've got enough evidence and information there to look at charging him
16:26With leaving the scene of an accident and failure to provide a sample of breath
16:31Hello
16:32Where was you while I was getting abused?
16:33Behind you
16:34Oh was you?
16:35Yeah
16:36When I first started this job, the abuse that you sometimes get
16:38It was difficult to handle
16:40When you put the uniform on, people expect you to be Superman or whatever
16:43So, but we're not
16:45We're just normal people at the end of the day
16:47However, it does bounce off you a bit more
16:49You probably, you probably don't know that
16:54Please can somebody let me out
16:55Thank you
16:57Thank you
16:58And I from saying oh two four

17:36and it's up to traffic cops like matt cork to catch them before they become another statistic i can only
17:43hazard a guess that the reason that people drink drive is they genuinely believe that they're never
17:48going to get caught why should they sort out taxis sort out alternative travel plans to somebody
17:54thinking well you know i've had two pints and i think i'll be all right the hard and fast rule is

24:10maybe a job
24:12you know the joys of drink driving
24:17the minimum punishment for a first time drink driving offence
24:20is a 12 month ban
24:22and a fine of up to 5,000 pounds
24:28some drivers face six months in prison
24:31and all will have a criminal record
24:35dealing with the amount of drink drives that we do
24:37the way that people behave
24:39every now and again
24:40you'll get somebody who still
24:41doesn't think they've done anything wrong

25:10I've no doubt
25:12that if it's quiet enough
25:13and they're not run off their feet

26:06keep going
26:07keep going
26:08keep going
26:09stop
26:10lovely
26:11that young lass has found herself on the wrong side of it tonight
26:14by a bit of a silly irresponsible decision
26:17she'll be well aware of the effects of alcohol
26:19and I dare say as thought
26:21I'll risk it
26:22the limits will affect you differently depending on what you've had to drink
26:26what you've had to eat that day
26:28generally how you're feeling yourself
26:30what you have provided is 67 and 68
26:34so you're way over the legal limit okay
26:37based on that you'll need to be with us about 4 hours
26:41before you can go
26:43so it's just coming up for midnight
26:45so it'll be about 4am
26:47before we can release you
26:50to ensure drink drivers don't get behind the wheel again while under the influence
26:55police kick them in custody
26:57until their alcohol levels are back within normal range
27:02she's now going to be looking at ultimately a driving disqualification
27:05which will have a real impact on the start of her life
27:08and potentially her career options going forward
27:1167 and 68
27:14in order
27:15yeah in order
27:18as much as she's classed as an adult
27:20she's 18
27:21she's found herself in a position where she wants a mum
27:23almost a bit of a deer in the headlights
27:26the driving disqualification
27:27they're getting arrested
27:28they end up in a prison cell overnight
27:30probably isn't going to compare to the disappointment
27:32that the parents are going to show
27:34when they realise that their 18 year old's been arrested for drink driving
27:39in the UK
27:45most serious collisions involving drink drivers happen at night
27:50for the police it's vital to get those under the influence off the road
27:54Oh
27:550
28:01go ahead
28:03go ahead
28:04taking an area search
28:05attending the Langley Mill area
28:0724, thank you
28:10we're in a residential area
28:12it's a very busy Saturday night
28:15pc chris wells jackson is on the lookout
28:16for drink drivers
28:17for drink drivers.
28:21Cool.
28:23A car with a faulty headlight grabs his attention.
28:32Sometimes you just get a feeling if you're behind a particular vehicle
28:36and you look at the driver and their demeanor goes to show
28:39that they probably shouldn't be driving.
28:41They get quite nervous.
28:42They're doing things that a normal person wouldn't necessarily do.
28:48An ACF4 code 2, please.
28:54Yeah, I've got a detail.
28:57It's an Audi.
29:00Audi A3S5 in black.
29:02For insurance, no port, top of the flag.
29:05Received, I've got it stopped.
29:11Do you want to come and join me?
29:12Yeah, mate, I know where you are.
29:14Unsure of how the driver might react,
29:16Chris radios PC Andy Swift nearby.
29:20I'd want to join him until we know it's all right.
29:23Hello.
29:25I've only stopped you because your lights are out on your back
29:27and you've got a light out on the front.
29:30Yeah, no problem.
29:31Have you had anything to drink tonight?
29:32I have, yeah.
29:33I've had about four cans of Stella's.
29:36Have you?
29:36Yeah.
29:37Just stop smoking that for me then because you're going to have to be breathalyzed, aren't you?
29:39Yeah, yeah, yeah.
29:40Just chuck that on your passenger seat for me.
29:42The ethanol in some vapes can affect the accuracy of a breathalyzer test.
29:47When did you have your last drink?
29:50About ten minutes ago.
29:51I'm not going to arrest you yet because I need to breathalyze you and see if you're over there.
29:54However, I'm going to detain you because I believe that you may be unfit to drive through what you've told me.
29:58Yeah, yeah, yeah.
29:59Are you well known to us?
30:01A little bit.
30:02A little bit.
30:03Is this your vehicle then?
30:04No, it's my cousin's.
30:05This is your cousin's.
30:06Does he know you've taken it?
30:07No.
30:08No?
30:08So you've talked to it as well then?
30:10Yeah, yeah.
30:11My colleague's going to come join me in a minute.
30:13I'll get him to bring a breathalyzer over and we'll go from there.
30:15All right.
30:16Just keep that down because I need to breathalyze you.
30:18Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
30:19But that interferes with it, doesn't it?
30:21I don't know, does it?
30:22Come on, I'm playing ball with you.
30:24For somebody that's intoxicated, they can become very unpredictable.
30:27Where all they're thinking about is themselves and how they're going to get themselves sorted,
30:31then can become very difficult and dangerous for us.
30:34My colleague's here now.
30:35Because you've told me that you've had four stellas, I'm going to require you to provide
30:40me a sample of breathalyzer analysis, okay?
30:41Are you happy to provide me a sample of breathalyzer analysis?
30:43Wonderful.
30:44So you had your last can of stellar about 10 minutes ago, you think?
30:47Well, we'll wait another five, six minutes then before we do this.
30:50Five, six minutes?
30:51Because I have to wait 20 minutes.
30:53No, because that interferes with this, doesn't it?
30:55So it's on the roof of the car here.
30:57The driver still won't give up his vape, so the cops may not get an accurate alcohol reading
31:03from him.
31:04Get out of the car now.
31:08Do you want gassing?
31:08Get out of the car now!
31:13It didn't have to be like that, did it?
31:17Just gassing.
31:17Just gassing.
31:18What do you guess me?
31:19Right, right, give me your arm then now.
31:21Give me your arm now.
31:22You were being compliant, now you're playing up.
31:28Right.
31:29Are we sorted?
31:30Are you going to behave yourself?
31:32Do you want to sit on your arse or do you want to stay on your front?
31:34Because you're in a puddle at the moment.
31:38If you want to be silly, this is what happens, isn't it?
31:39Alright?
31:40I was being right with you up until then.
31:42And all that over of eight.
31:44Put him against his warts.
31:45Sit up.
31:46Put him back against the warts.
31:47Sit up.
31:49Yeah.
31:49There was no need for it, was there?
31:52Forget about it.
31:52And how are you tango share for?
31:56Go ahead.
31:57Loosen them.
31:58I'll get two fingers there.
32:00Go on.
32:00Two fingers there.
32:01This lad's been a little bit silly and we've had to drag him out of his car and take him to the floor.
32:05Would you just ask Amber Valley if they've got a van spare?
32:08Because he may cause us some issues shortly.
32:10And he's a bit wet because he's been in a puddle.
32:12Yes, yes.
32:13Believe they're aware.
32:14He's compliant at the minute but we've obviously had a few little issues with him.
32:18Bloody fuck.
32:19Drink driving's a very selfish act.
32:21But unfortunately a lot of people decide now that they think they can get away with it.
32:25And they are making that decision knowingly.
32:27And it's putting everybody else at risk.
32:29It's frustrating for us because we know that we've got to put ourselves at risk sometimes to make sure we take those people off the road.
32:36And that could be putting ourselves at risk.
32:38Actually getting hold of that person, getting them out of the vehicle.
32:40It's a dangerous game that we play sometimes.
32:43But we still have to do our job.
32:46Right, so because you've been driving a motor vehicle and you've told me that you've had a drink so therefore I've had a suspicion.
32:52I've already given you the requirement which you've said you're going to provide.
32:55So if you can, Kurt and I start to see your lips around the tube.
32:58Low till 3 to stop.
33:02Stop, thank you.
33:0778.
33:07I think that's more than 4.
33:08So that's double and a little bit more.
33:11Okay.
33:12He's blown 78 at 3 minutes past 1.
33:16So he's under arrest for that.
33:18And he's also said that he's swapped the vehicle from his cousin so he's under arrest for that as well.
33:23As well as being more than double the alcohol limit and admitting to taking the car without consent, the man doesn't have a current driver's license and he's not insured to drive this car.
33:35A few empty cans in the car which I'm assuming he's drank whilst he's been in it because he said he's been living in it for the last few days so.
33:42And very accurate to what he said, it's 4 cans of Stella and his vape.
33:50More officers arrive to help.
33:52He was calm to start off with and then for some bizarre reason, just because he couldn't have hold of his vape because I needed to do the breath test with him, he kicked off.
34:02So of course we ended up dragging him out of the car which we didn't want to do.
34:06And then we've had a bit of a roll around with him but he's just a bit unpredictable and went up and down.
34:10So we'll get him off in the back of the van and then we'll get his car seized.
34:14Coming up.
34:30Caught at more than twice the limit.
34:32Just stand up here, stop being silly.
34:35This driver's intent on causing trouble.
34:38Just stand here, no, don't walk off.
34:41Listen, you can't just walk off, you've got to listen to what I'm saying.
34:44Hello.
35:01You alright?
35:02In East Derbyshire, PC Chris Wells Jackson pulled over a driver who needed breathalysing.
35:08Have you had anything to drink tonight?
35:10I have, yeah.
35:11I've had about 4 cans of Stella's.
35:13But really wanted to vape.
35:16Get out the car now!
35:20It didn't have to be like that, did it?
35:24What is that?
35:25You didn't do this one.
35:27You didn't do this one.
35:28You didn't do this one.
35:30You didn't do this one.
35:31You didn't do this one.
35:32You didn't do this one.
35:34Once we get in there they'll be coming off as long as you comply.
35:52Stop banging your head!
35:54We'll sort it when we get inside.
35:58It's too tight, look.
36:00From what I've been told, they've been sorted.
36:02You put two fingers in that mouth.
36:06Go on.
36:08That's two fingers.
36:10Never.
36:12100%, that is two fingers.
36:14But I can get two fingers in it, and I've hardly got the thinnest fingers in my own.
36:16I've got a bit of weak about me, so...
36:18Well, so have I.
36:20I've got chunky fingers, and I can get them in.
36:28Stop banging your head.
36:36Pack in!
36:38Oh, don't get them pushin'.
36:40Pack in, then!
36:42What are you trying to achieve, exactly?
36:46What are you trying to achieve?
36:48The right hand cuff loosens to the same as my left one.
36:52But while ever you're banging your head, and showing some sort of aggression, we're not going to loosen your cuffs, are we?
36:58You're banging your head against the cage.
37:00It's not exactly normal, is it?
37:02Are we going to be good?
37:04Are we going to be good?
37:06Good lad, come on.
37:08I've been waiting up for you, and I will be all the way through.
37:12Careful.
37:14Up to that door.
37:16To charge his suspect with drink driving, Chris needs to test him on the evidential machine, while his alcohol levels are still high.
37:26If we get them off, we're going to behave.
37:28Yeah.
37:29Have I not co-operated?
37:30We thought what?
37:32Have I not co-operated?
37:33Mostly.
37:34We just had a bit of a disagreement at the roadside, didn't we?
37:36The devices that we use at the roadside are a rough indicator of the amount of alcohol that's in your system.
37:41And the machine now and in custody is a much more accurate and evidential machine.
37:45There's always that question of, are they going to be under when we get to the custody suite?
37:49Because every moment, you're dropping that alcohol out of your system.
37:53I've witnessed driving on the road.
37:55He got a couple of lights out of the vehicle, so I've stopped it.
37:57He's admitted to have been drinking four cans of Stella prior to driving.
38:02And also that he'd swapped the vehicle from his cousin.
38:06So we've got to make those enquiries.
38:07However, at the moment, he's been arrested.
38:09What we're going to do, we're going to do an evidential breath test.
38:11Then you're going to get better down a bit.
38:12Can you get some clothes?
38:13Yeah, they'll sort you out, yeah.
38:14We'll get you some dry ones.
38:16Yeah.
38:17Okay, so I require you to provide me two specimens of breath for analysis by means of an approved device.
38:22Yeah, no problem.
38:23I've got to do this first, and then I'll sort you the dry clothes.
38:26Listen, listen.
38:27I'm not going to do nothing in the...
38:29Well, if that's a failure to provide, then that's a failure to provide.
38:32I'm not doing it.
38:34Just stand up here.
38:35Stop being silly.
38:36You need to go and answer these questions.
38:38Untense your arm and come and stand at the desk.
38:41Just answer the questions, and then we can get on with it, and I can get you some dry clothes, can't I?
38:46There's always something in the back of your mind when you're in that scenario, and your experience tells you that you need to be on edge constantly because you never know who you're dealing with.
38:55Are you going to come and do the breath test now?
38:57Just stand here.
38:58No.
38:59Don't walk off.
39:00Listen.
39:01You can't just walk off.
39:02You've got to listen to what I'm saying.
39:03Keep my head in.
39:04Listen.
39:05Right.
39:06If you're going to carry on, you're going to get stripped in yourself.
39:08All right.
39:09No, stop.
39:10Stop.
39:11Stop tensing up.
39:12You are tensing up.
39:13You're tensing up now.
39:14Are you going to go and do the breath test?
39:15Yes.
39:16Right.
39:17Jesus.
39:18Remaining professional, remaining calm, and making sure that you deal with people in the
39:24right manner is absolutely imperative to make sure that we get everything right.
39:29Have a seat.
39:30Just take a couple of deep breaths.
39:31Watch your light, and then we'll be all right.
39:33When I tell you to do so, relax, take a deep breath, place the mouthpiece in your mouth,
39:39and make a good seal around it with your lips.
39:41Then blow steadily and evenly until I tell you to stop.
39:44Once this is done, it'll take about five minutes.
39:46I'll get you your dry clothes.
39:47We'll get you some snout.
39:48We'll get you a drink.
39:49Then you can get your head down for a bit.
39:52Deep breath.
39:53And go.
39:54Keep going.
39:55Keep going.
39:56Keep going.
39:57Keep going.
39:58Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going.
40:01Mediculate the night.
40:02It's 69 or 70.
40:03They're your results.
40:04Okay, so that's twice the limit.
40:06A good few hours, with your head down.
40:09You'll be interviewed in the morning about the twat, and then you're going to be charged
40:12with the drunk driving element.
40:13Would you like me to get you some dry clothes?
40:15Yeah.
40:16I will do that.
40:17This chap's been very up and down.
40:18He's continued to be quite difficult in custody, but eventually he's been happy to provide
40:23two samples of breath in the evidential machine.
40:26machine and he's blown a lower evidential reading of 69 which is twice the legal limit so he'll have
40:32to be interviewed in the morning about the TWAC element if we can actually establish that's
40:35happened I don't doubt that he's been living in that car for the last couple of days drinking
40:39and I'm sure he's probably been driving around absolutely hammered as he was tonight we'll see
40:44what we get in the morning but realistically he's getting charged he's going to get disqualified so
40:48it's a good result
40:56after four hours in a cell Matt Cork's 18 year old drink driver is sober enough to be charged
41:08you don't have to say anything but it may harm your defense if you don't mention now something
41:12which you're late to a line in court anything you do say may be given in evidence okay
