00:01Pope Leo XIV on Sunday renewed his appeal for a ceasefire in Sudan and the opening of humanitarian corridors.
00:10The United Nations has accused fighters from the paramilitary rapid support forces,
00:14which captured the city of Al-Fashur recently, of killing non-Arab civilians and sexual assaults.
00:20It's with great sorrow that I follow the tragic news coming from Sudan,
00:31particularly from the city of Al-Fashur in the tormented northern Darfur region.
00:36Indiscriminate violence against women and children,
00:39attacks on defenseless civilians and serious obstacles to humanitarian action
00:45are causing unacceptable suffering to a population already exhausted by long months of conflict.
00:57The pontiff called on the international community to act with determination and generosity
01:03to offer assistance and support to relief efforts in Sudan.
01:08Let us also pray for Tanzania, where, after the recent political elections,
01:18clashes have broken out with numerous victims.
01:21I invite everyone to avoid all forms of violence and to follow the path of dialogue.
01:30The Tanzanian opposition claims that hundreds of people were killed this week during election protests
01:35by demonstrators angry at the exclusion of the president's two main challenges.
