00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:03Today, it's all about the Special Edition of the 2025 Mitsubishi Lancer GSR.
00:10This special model brings a breath of fresh air to the midsize pickup segment
00:14and tries to compete with established competitors with a well-thought-out overall package.
00:20The new Lancer GSR Special Edition is based on the already well-known top version of the series
00:25and has been given a more refined look in this version.
00:30Particularly noticeable is that the previously used high-gloss black accents
00:34have now been replaced by painted body elements.
00:38The radiator grille is in a striking graphite gray.
00:43Also noticeable is the absence of the typical fender flares,
00:46which have been replaced by a sleeker look.
00:49Instead of the previously installed mudguard, a completely black sports bar is now used.
00:54The rear bumper and the 18-inch alloy wheels retain their elegant black look,
01:01which creates a harmonious overall impression.
01:06Plastic running boards and taillights, some of which are equipped with LED technology,
01:10complete the exterior appearance.
01:12Even though the design continues to be polarizing,
01:16the current model is significantly more modern and attractive than its predecessor.
01:21The front end in particular is strongly reminiscent of the BMW X7.
01:26An impression that is hard to shake off.
01:29Surprisingly, this look suits the Triton much better than many SUVs,
01:33as it lends the vehicle a powerful presence.
01:35The interior has also undergone some changes.
01:41The design is based on the Mitsubishi SUV model Outlander,
01:45which is reflected in a contemporary and inviting cabin design.
01:50Soft materials on the dashboard and door panels noticeably enhance the interior.
01:56The special edition GSR also adds sporty accents.
02:01Black leather seats with striking orange contrast stitching,
02:04which also extends across the dashboard,
02:07as well as a black headliner,
02:08create a unique ambience.
02:12When it comes to controls,
02:14Mitsubishi deliberately relies on classic rotary controls and buttons,
02:17especially for the climate control,
02:19to ensure intuitive use.
02:22This means that the Triton is clearly aimed at a target group
02:25that values everyday practicality
02:27and does not rely on excessive touchscreen operation.
02:31Nevertheless,
02:32modern technology is also on board.
02:34A 9-inch infotainment screen forms the centerpiece of the multimedia system.
02:40It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
02:43and generally responds quickly,
02:45but can occasionally seem a bit sluggish.
02:49There is also a small digital screen
02:51between the classic round instruments for driving-related information.
02:56Simple, functional and clear.
02:58A six-speaker audio system with digital radio provides sound,
03:04while the front seats are heated and equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control.
03:08Although they lack sufficient thigh support,
03:13the Triton otherwise leaves little to be desired in terms of features.
03:19A 12-volt power outlet,
03:21USB-A and USB-C ports,
03:23and a wireless charging surface are also on board,
03:26as are deep cup holders in the center console,
03:28generous door pockets,
03:29and fold-out cup holders under the side air vents.
03:34Additional storage spaces can be found in the center armrest,
03:37a split glove compartment,
03:39and a glasses compartment in the headliner.
03:41The rear seat offers sufficient head and legroom.
03:45However,
03:46the seating position is quite steep,
03:48which limits comfort on longer journeys.
03:50A major disadvantage is that the rear seats can be folded up completely
03:55if additional loading space is required in the interior.
03:59The backrests only fold forward and at an impractical angle.
04:05Roof air vents ensure a pleasant climate in the rear,
04:08and the Isofix mounts on the outer seats make it easy to fit child seats.
04:14In the loading area behind the cabin,
04:16the Triton JSR remains true to its design.
04:18The loading area measures around 1.6 meters in length and 1.50 meters in width.
04:26A plastic bed liner protects the floor.
04:28However,
04:29there is no damping mechanism for the tailgate.
04:31It simply falls down.
04:34A cover for the loading area is also not included.
04:37The maximum payload is over 1 ton.
04:39The towing capacity is an impressive 3.5 tons.
04:43Both values with which the Triton can prove itself in tough everyday use.
04:47The special edition presents itself comprehensively in terms of safety equipment.
04:53Emergency brake assist,
04:55blind spot monitoring,
04:56lane departure warning,
04:57adaptive cruise control,
04:59a 360 degrees camera,
05:01front and rear parking sensors,
05:02rear cross traffic alert,
05:04and an automatic emergency braking function when reversing are all standard.
05:07Only the driver monitoring system is a negative feature,
05:12as it constantly emits acoustic warning signals despite attentive driving.
05:17This is a point that Mitsubishi says it wants to fix with a software update.
05:23Under the hood is a 2.4 liter turbodiesel engine with twin turbo charging,
05:28which delivers around 150 kilowatts and 470 newm of torque.
05:33This corresponds to around 204 horsepower.
05:37In combination with a 6-speed automatic transmission,
05:40the drive ensures harmonious gear changes,
05:42even if the engine seems a little reserved compared to the competition.
05:45However,
05:47the Super Select 2 all-wheel drive system from Mitsubishi is outstanding.
05:52It allows permanent all-wheel drive and thus offers added safety and driving stability on a wide variety of surfaces.
05:58With the 2H, 4H and 4L driving modes as well as a rear differential lock,
06:05the Triton is ideally equipped for off-road driving.
06:10A ground clearance of 0.23 meters,
06:13an approach angle of 30 degrees and a rear ramp angle of 22.8 degrees
06:17underline the off-road credentials of this pickup.
06:21The chassis tuning is significantly improved in the city,
06:24and the steering behavior is more precise than in older models.
06:28However,
06:30the soft suspension can be a disadvantage on uneven terrain,
06:33as it causes unstable handling.
06:36However,
06:37this behavior improves noticeably with a little weight in the loading area.
06:42Consumption in everyday use is around 8L of diesel per 100 kilometers.
06:47A decent figure for this vehicle class,
06:49as long as no heavy trailers are towed.
06:52The start-stop system is less impressive.
06:56When approaching a traffic light,
06:57the engine switches off abruptly and restarts just as abruptly,
07:00which somewhat reduces driving comfort.
07:05The Special Edition is priced at around âŹ53,000,
07:08which puts the Triton in close proximity to higher-priced competitors
07:11such as the Ford Ranger Wildtrak or Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain.
07:19Nevertheless,
07:20it remains a solid and mature alternative,
07:22especially compared to Chinese competitors,
07:24even if its price is gradually dwindling.
