00:00Welcome to the new video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog, which focuses on a pioneering major project of the BMW Group in Lower Bavaria.
00:09The new plant for high-performance batteries in Robachstrasse.
00:13Construction of a state-of-the-art assembly plant is progressing here at a remarkable pace and with a clear commitment to Germany as a business location.
00:22In future, it will play a central role in supplying German vehicle plants with innovative 6th generation high-performance batteries.
00:30Just around a year after construction began in April 2024, the first production facilities are already moving into the largely completed new building.
00:42With this, the BMW Group is not only impressively demonstrating its efficiency in project management, but also underscoring its strategy of consistently relying on German and, in particular, Bavarian partners.
00:53All construction companies involved in the plant are from Germany, two-thirds of them from Bavaria.
01:01BMW is also relying on local strength when it comes to plant manufacturers.
01:06Over three-quarters of these companies come from Germany, and one-third even from within a radius of 100 kilometers around the new plant.
01:12This targeted promotion of regional expertise demonstrates how modern industrial projects can be firmly rooted in the region, not only technologically but also economically.
01:23During a visit to the site together with Ilka Horstmeyer, member of the Board of Management for Human Resources and Real Estate, and Dr. Milan Nedelkovic, member of the Board of Management for Production, Marcus Soder, was impressed by the progress.
01:40Soder emphasized that Bavaria is a car country and that the gigafactory for high-tech batteries in Rolbach-Straschkirchen sends a clear signal for the future of electromobility.
01:48High-tech is being combined with regional identity here in the middle of a rural area, a model that combines economic strength and technological innovation.
02:02The statement that if BMW is doing well, Bavaria is doing well sums up the strategic importance of this project for the state.
02:11Nedelkove also emphasized that numerous innovations are being bundled in the new BMW class,
02:16for which the high-performance batteries will be produced here in the future.
02:22The new plant is not only an investment in the production technology of the future,
02:26but also a conscious commitment to Germany as a high-tech nation.
02:31At the same time, the close integration of research, business and politics here is a prime example of successful industrial policy.
02:40After all, the rapid progress made at Bavarian speed would hardly have been possible without such cooperation.
02:46Horst Mier also emphasized the social component of the project.
02:52A total of around 1,600 jobs will be created at the new location,
02:56many of whom will be recruited from the existing workforce through internal application and selection procedures.
03:01The focus is particularly on employees with experience in battery production,
03:07for example from the nearby Competence Center for E-Mobility in Dinggolfing, which is around 40 kilometers away.
03:15However, employees from other production areas are also showing great interest in the new location.
03:20The personnel strategy is supplemented by targeted further training measures and qualification programs.
03:29The second year of training for 50 young people in Dinggolfing and Regensburg will begin in September 2025,
03:36who will later continue their professional careers in Rabach-Straw-Skirchen.
03:39Another indicator of the project's local roots is the construction planning itself.
03:48The first of a total of 1,066 supports in the central production building was already in place at the end of June 2024.
03:56Just one year later, construction has progressed to the point where installation of the complex production systems is now underway.
04:02The first batteries for testing purposes are to be manufactured this year.
04:10Regular production is scheduled to start at the end of 2026.
04:14The plant will become a flagship project for the automotive industry in Germany due to its strategic importance,
04:20modern technology and close cooperation with regional partners.
04:27Rural areas benefit enormously from this development, not only through high-quality jobs,
04:31but also through economic stimulus in a radius far beyond the Bergstor.
04:38With the plant in Obachstrasen, the BMW Group is demonstrating that technological future,
04:44regional added value and social responsibility can go hand-in-hand.
04:50A visit to the information container on-site, which will be open on June 28 between 3 and 5 p.m.,
04:56offers interested parties and exciting insight into this major industrial project.
