00:00GOP Senator torches Dems over shutdown, real-life pain for American families.
00:0613 was not a lucky number for members of Congress,
00:08who voted down a resolution to end the government shutdown for the 13th time.
00:13Senate Majority Leader John Thune hammered that point
00:16and railed against Democrats for voting against the measure,
00:19especially funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
00:23Let me just point out, if I might, that we are 29 days into a Democrat shutdown, Thune started.
00:30And the senator from New Mexico, Ben Ray Lujan, is absolutely right.
00:34SNAP recipients shouldn't go without food.
00:37People should be getting paid in this country.
00:39And we've tried to do that 13 times.
00:42You voted no 13 times.
00:44He spoke of the consequences looming for Americans.
00:47This isn't a political game.
00:49These are real people's lives that we're talking about.
00:52And you all just figured out, 29 days in, that, oh, there might be some consequences?
00:58Thune continued.
01:00But at some point, the government runs out of money.
01:03Thune accused Democrats of intentionally prolonging the government shutdown,
01:06while Republicans pushed to end it.
01:09He noted Republicans voted 13 times to fund SNAP and WIC, but Democrats blocked it,
01:15instead planning a bill to fund food stamps during what he called their shutdown.
01:19Thune labeled the move a cynical attempt to give Democrats political cover
01:24and extend the shutdown for another month or longer.
01:28The Democrat leader said that President Trump could end this with a stroke of his pen.
01:32We pass that bill.
01:33With a stroke of his pen, he'll sign it into law, and the government opens up.
01:37Thune continued.
01:38And SNAP beneficiaries, SNAP recipients, get food assistance.
01:44TSA workers get paid.
01:46Troops get paid.
01:48These people here get paid who are working without pay.
01:51You want to extend that and keep that going?
01:53Give me a break.
01:5429 days into the Schumer shutdown, Democrats are realizing there may be some consequences to their shutdown.
02:01Republicans have tried to open the government 13 times.
